Even at low level as long as you know how to manage over power there should be no reason you use flash. At low levels, being your tank, you can mark targets for lower dungeons to ensure party knows were to focus, makes rotating combos a lot easier also than DPS going to different targets and making you over work.

Why would you spam Over power? unless your using blood bath and about to be ko'd? Unless your way under gear i guess.

you could also do Defiance, infuriate, unchained, berserk, bloodbath, tomahawk, heavy swing, skull sunder, butchers lock. to pull as well or start with storms eye.

Because I have DPS who can AE effectively, and I want them to be able to AE to their heart's content and not draw aggro away from me? Speed runs with big pulls? All I need to do in those cases is make sure I keep all the enmity on me, while my DPS wreck face with impunity. For a WAR, that is Overpower, Flash, and if available, Steel Cyclone/Decimate. I need enmity on every mob every time I press a button. That lets DPS do their thing and gives the healer exactly one person to worry about healing.

That's why you would spam Overpower. As far as your listed combo goes...lol. That's one way to do things I guess. :O

Let's be real for a second here, the only thing that really teaches you anything is Hall of the Novice and that came out way late in the game's life. Outside of that Hall, the game doesn't tell you to Shield Lob + 2-3 Flash every pull, nor does it tell you that you're gonna be playing with players who are level synced down and are far stronger than you will be and will be able to hold more aggro than you even when you do your enmity combo because you aren't synced down like they are.

Also, do we really need to make fun of novice players? Sounds childish.

Over power may have it's many uses as a start but to spam it constantly can sometimes be a WAR downfall if not properly geared or handle rotations properly. If you go that route I would recommend practicing and time it with blood bath as a combo. As a WAR is rare I lose enmity just use it as an overall with blood bath, unless you have those crazy suicidal blm's ...they are nice to keep you on your toes at times :P Also you can carry some Max potions being they are cheap you can use one while pulling and get a boost to enmity at start. Being they are pretty cheap they help as a quick starter. I play war for fun just because its a bit more challenging but over all for long / big pulls I would stick more with DRK. Extremely rare I lose enmity and can sprint and use abyssila drain, by the time I stop pulling I have my TP back :P

I'm referring to specifically the way you're suppose to tank in an actual dungeon with other players. Yes, you can learn what a move does, but just because you know Flash gives you enmity, it doesn't mean you know how much you'll be gaining, or if you need to spam it or not. There can even be the mindset that "all I'm doing is using Flash and not doing damage, that can't be right...".

Let's say a new player enters a dungeon and everyone is synced down and not giving a rats patooty if the Tank can keep enmity, going full DPS zerg and focusing down separate enemies instead of one, and so the Tank gets confused and feeling pressured cause they are trying hard and testing things in real time with other players and nothing works.

They won't even have enough time to adequately think about more optimal ways due to the constant pressure and their gear being far lower than a level synced player. They also won't have time to build enmity because they'll lack provoke starting out and DPS or the Healer will be pulling mobs sometimes before they can get the first lick in which is terrible as a learning experience for a new player.

For the third time in this thread, I will say that Overpower/Flash spam IS SITUATIONAL. Sometimes, I get the synched down DPS that can AE like maniacs, so my job shifts to AE enmity instead of following "The Perfect Rotation As Specified By Forum Elitists"©. This topic was about using Flash and generating AE enmity, and the claim got made WAR shouldn't ever use Flash, which some situations would say is nonsense. Take the pacification after Berserk. Sometimes, you may have more than one mob left when pacification hits, and oh hey, Flash is still available since it does no DPS. And oh btw, in hectic add situations, Flash doesn't need to be targeted as it is PBAE, which makes it very useful for grabbing AE snap enmity in a hurry. Etc etc.

Honestly, I think you're expecting too little of new players. Aggro bars tell you how much enmity you're gaining (relative and rough, but it's there; a crystal ball gives exact numbers). Tanking in this game (most things in this game honestly) is not hard to figure out being thrown into the deep end, all it takes is some reasoning capability and reading comprehension.

Their right it is funny seeing new tanks, to each their own. You don't need a training dummy for tanking...you need live experience.

For a new player to grasp tanking it comes from how much that person is dedicated on being X role as a tank I made it my mission to make sure I was doing the right rotation, knew how to hold threat, knew how to position because there is a delay in this game which throws newbies off. Once you start from there you can build your tank and look at your abilities as you level and test them out, do your homework if you're passionate about tanking then learn it up spam dungeons until you learn that's what I had to do.

and I know i'm not everybody but when I see a tank struggling I tell the DPS to back off or when i'm DPS I give them tips to improve doesn't work all the time since people either respond or don't. I even coached a Drk this week in a 24 man because he had Piety all in his gear and said it helps his mana gains but what he didn't realize is his threat was crap, his dps was crap, and the mana he had didn't even matter in the end. I told him the rotations, what to meld since Piety increases your mana pool but the values of Siphon and CnS as well as Dark Price are not based off %, he thanked me and said sorry that he thought this was the right way, crap happens you do what you will with it.

Even in max level content we still have people who struggle even in 250+ gear to me it's a role that you only get so much out of it as much as you put in, you learn, you adapt, you take criticism in an MMO, doesn't mean that people should point fingers at you but you have to respect others as well.
