I dunno... As far as SCH are concerned... Heel, sustain then place her where she isn't cleaved, as that's the only way she would take any damage... Unless Shiva EX.
But yeah, I am not inclined to reactively heal any DPS that take damage if they aren't in any real risk during DPS crunch phases. It is costly to spam Succor on its own or with emergency tactics other wise, it use an aetherflow stack for indomitablilty, when whispering wind is quite potent. I will usually use indomitablilty though if aetherflow is near the end of its cool down. In healing intensive fights, we must make sure we aren't over healing just because DPS took some where around a 1k raid wide hit.

I'm sorry but no, it is not the healers responsibility to heal pets. It's a nice gesture at best but SCH/SMN have Sustain for that very reason. MCH, not sure but they can summon turrets with no penalty what so ever.
As for SCH specifically, it is nice that aoe heals work on their own pets, and eos gains benefit from whispering dawn but it is foolish to prioritize them for single target healing. -
