Having a cash shop of this extent in a sub game is actively damaging the game. Folk who don't get that are just defending their own right to get taken advantage of by a corporation. And then they're strangely proud of that? SE will never get more than the base sub price from me, and even that is constantly in danger of going away. There are businesses with more respect from me and that deserve my money far more.
Just my 2 cents.
I don't think it's fair to say SE is "taking advantage of people".
You have no way of knowing how many more people would buy if the price was even $1.00 cheaper. Only SE would know definitively and they probably did their calculations based on historical sales, etc. to help determine at what price would both help them return a profit and cover all production costs.
At the end of the day, they are optional and if your value and the actual price dont' align, then don't buy. But to say SE is cheating people is a bit over the top.
BnS is free-to-play.
The fact of the matter is that the prices are absurd for what you get in FFXIV. Pretty much every other AAA MMO offers better cash shop deals - either through cheaper prices, being account-wide, the ability to earn cash shop currency from playing the game, or a combination of all three.
They're not even using f2p prices, because many f2p games have better deals than what we get here.
I would prefer a system like WildStar's Omnibits, which leaves us to spend our Gil on actual in-game things. Omnibits are a currency you earn whenever you do things that would grant XP (works at level cap, as well).
Every time SE invests development money into creating assets that they put on the cash shop instead of into the game that you're already paying for, they're ripping us off of something we've already given them money for. So each time SE puts out an ad for "new optional items" to me it's the same as them saying to me "Here's something you've paid for but we're going to hold it hostage until you pay even more. Because we care about your money more than your enjoyment of our service." Which, of course they value our money; they're a company making a profit off of us. That's why it's important for us to start threads like this and tell them when they've crossed lines. Which they have.
Hi. Did you intend for this to make a point or did you just want to guess about how many f2p games I've played? It'd be more fun if you placed a bet before guessing.
You are responding to a sentence that was a response to a statement that said f2p games all had cheaper outfits. They don't. I can't believe people are still tilting at this windmill. 90ish percent of the crap on the store is from seasonal and regional events. Ama_Hamada is the only one arguing about things that are obviously messed up. Paying for inventory space is a crime, they need to fix the storage system. My only concern with buying stuff from the store is that alot of it is not account wide. Other than that buy it or don't. You still won't have any place to store it. :P
How many times does it have to be repeated to get through the cement block you call your skull: The cash shop stuff is completely seperate from the game. Your 15 a month does -not- go towards cash shop items, they are self-funded. If the cash shop disappeared tomorrow morning you still would not see those items in game.
When you say "having a cash shop of this extent damages the game", do you mean how:
-The game devs have fashioned parts of the game where one way or another, you will need to get your hands on cash shop items to successfully proceed?
-Not having these items put you at a deliberate disadvantage against other players?
-Being excluded from certain group content because your gear isn't up to standard because you did not partake of cash shop items? Which, in returns creates an actual divide between regular cs users and non-cs users?
-Game devs go actively out of their way to remove any form of acquiring in-game gold farming methods just to make sure no one can buy CS items from other players?
-Game devs making your QoL essential features out of your reach unless you dip your hand in CS?
SE has made its greed move, like any owner of a cash shop. The only difference is you can still go on about your business in the game without behind hindered by it.
