Sure, great. Drop surnames.
Make it where I can name my character whatever I want without it going "lol there can only be ONE of this name in the entire world pick another one" forcing you to add stupid looking stuff like "XxX---insert name here---XxX" when you do.
Wait, you can't do that? Then keep surnames.

Love to know scholars!
Yeah, poor arguments and trolling aside, don't remove the surnames feature, that's just.. dumb, really.
Do you have any idea how rare it is to find a game that doesn't have the stupid, arbitrary limit of one use per name? To this day, I've found three. Phantasy Star Online, Phantasy Star Universe, and Final Fantasy XIV; and the first two achieved it by using a system of numeric character ID's that'd make very little sense here, not to mention would be very difficult to implement and make user friendly given the differing game formats. Besides, I like the forename, surname, format.
Even setting aside the fact that the level of coding needed to remove surnames would be huge to the point of not being worth it - just think how many game systems have to call on our character name, it's a lot more than just name display and chat - the idea is still stupid. It's stupid even setting aside my first argument; how do you handle changing it to a one-name-per-player system? Tell huge numbers of players 'Sorry, you've gotta put up with being Forra#12 for the rest of your time here, or delete the character you worked so hard on, then remake and spend hours trawling for a name that isn't already in use'?
Nah, not forgot - didn't know >.>
Still, horrible graphics aside (as in, not low graphics weight, just stylistically.. ick x.x at least to my mind. I mean really, sprites and environment at two different camera angles?) Ultima Online was something unbelievably special. It's a shame what it did can't really be done by a modern game, not without using an older, more dynamically modifiable graphics format would doom it on the wider customer base front.
You're not wrong though i'd argue the fact they restricted themsleves to those basical graphical elements allows what UO was was... ewww such terrible english. Basically the fact is isometric and didnt need everything rendered 3d let us have boats, houses, you name it(Im talking about whipping out a throne at e brit bank). It was a goood game game but just like wow, not for everyone =).
Wow is a very good game, only a retard would say otherwise, ffxi was legit in its own right, i'd argue how good it was outside of FF fans because to be frank I didn't find it enjoyable(and yes I've played many mmorpg).
I think what we're talking about is surnames and how games have worked quite well with ppl hvaing multile of the same name..
I still ask for those who hate surnames how Isuqdiq is better than Isuq Diq
???
Oh, no, as I said - ' It's a shame what it did can't really be done by a modern game, not without using an older, more dynamically modifiable graphics format' - IE: Isometrics.
I have nothing against Ultima's choice of graphics format I just.. don't get why the backgrounds had to be shown at an angle about 15 degrees off vertical, and the characters at about 30 degrees off vertical. I know a lot of people were fine with that but.. made my head hurt x.x Just like how WoW's choice of graphics, while not in any way bad, still make me feel ill for some reason >.>
