No sh!t. (To put it bluntly), if you read my post and understood it you'd know that was what I was trying to get at too lol.

A quick edit: That being said the ----- word we use has to encompass the more than the bond between partners in love, but also other kinds of pacts if they were to implement that such as the pact between best friends etc.

@Shougun- Mate is tricky! haha, back in my home country, the slang term 'mate' also meant friend lol

I think it would be better to create a word that involves two people together for the sake of love. Otherwise indirectly the word is encouraging a better defined separation.

@Nix: Yeah a British and Australian friend where using it at me. But as a general American to American word I dont think its commonly used as friend, at least from my experience.

Haha yeah, it's very localized! I used to live in the Midlands (right smack dab in the middle of England) and it was used there, and as far as Manchester/Birmingham but when I moved down south for studies in Exeter it wasn't so prevalent there. I haven't encountered it at all in the states yet D:

I know 4 languages and this is a tall order, how would one define feelings between 2 people which has not yet been given a meaning... I Slavic nothing exists to define feeling one man (or woman) has towards another, when there is NO bond of blood between the. Some one that can dissect languages would need to try there hand at this.

(Definitely a tall order :P - being accepted by law would help though)

Thing is, muggle is a word derived from the meaning of a different word... so while it adds variation meaning does not change. Dirty blood, mixed blood, is something used as an insult from the middle ages, do new word, old meaning... The "-----" that is needed can not be linked to another meaning, or it will be for nothing.

why is this foreplay being added to my video games!?!?!?! lol, but seriously they don't need this in game, just a waist of resources. the same sex stuff is questionable and important but first fight it in the real world b4 you try to fight some game company that isn't even mained in your country. the states don't even all have same sex yet. but again, this stuff don't' belong in mmo's in my opinion.

Its already in game [2.0] - so too late on that.

And an MMO is (or should be) more then just an endless long grind - its also about community.

One of the most popular suggestions in here is to make the system more modular to allow for SSM or just a brotherhood/sisterhood bond.

The difference happening by player choice.

The "twelve" is a real-world religion? Sorry but that is like saying the Jedi and the Sith are real world...

Real-world religion implies that our characters are christian, buddhist, muslim etc etc, which is false.

I can accept your view on it, but marriage is going to be ingame regardless, this has been confirmed.

We were asked for our point of view on things, so here's the thread D:

It goes beyond the topic of SSM to the point where even hetero couples that play characters with the same gender based on aesthetic choice would be locked out of this too, which is kinda crappy.

Now the topic isn't so much as 'does marriage belong in a video game' but 'how can we incorporate this partnership so to speak so that no one is excluded'.

In 1/2 the world a hint of a person even being LBGT is enough for them to be just short of executed. But that's not the point my friend people here need something to talk about and i guess this is sort of an outlet for them to do so. It's this or grass i suppose. Am still sitting on "we don't need this" it pointless. But you know when one doesnt take a side it easier to see the big picture.

Quite the opposite my fried, no hatred intended. Indifference yes but no hatred... You'll need to be more specific as no hatred was intended and after rereading my posts i can't see what you see. If you referring to the quoted post. That is how the majority of the world looks on this not my view. Personally i don't care, my plan is get married, have kids, and when they grow up what they choose is there concern.

I'm guessing your main language isn't english? Some things can get lost in translation and it's easy to take certain things out of context, it happens lol

I think dismissing the discussion with "It's either this or the grass" certainly didn't help though :p

No one here is arguing whether or not we need marriage in-game though. They're adding it, it's decided. This thread is solely about the restriction, that's it. If you'd like to discuss whether or not marriage should even be in-game, please start a thread pertaining specifically to that.

At any rate,there are religions present in Eorzea but nothing we've seen suggests they are for or against same sex marriage. At the very least, it's not a lore issue lol.

Sorry I have been doing some research in to possible word alternatives. What about referring to it as a "coupling"? You can still say that you and someone else are "a couple" or "coupled".

Some alternatives I found:

1. Handfast (already presented, I still like this)
2. conjoining
3. yoking
4. cherishment
5. bi-honoration
6. continuum
7. locked or love-locked
8. well-keeping
9. (this and below you could add the word heart or love to the front) braced
10. joined
11. bound
12. fastened

Just throwing out ideas.

Bi-honoration sounds cool, your partner in crime could be deemed your 'honored' one. Bound is another term I like, same with handfasting!

I was thinking to myself while I was on my walk 'What about Fated?' Not sure how it'd be used.. maybe as in 'your fated partner'

The one I also thought of was from the Gorons in Ocarina of time lol 'Sworn', this could work if you swear an oath of allegiance, so you could become Sworn Brothers, Sisters or Partners depending on what your oath meant to that particular two-some.

Is it just me or can you almost read that as meaning something..? lol

I like the idea of a name like "Lifebond", sort of the twelve recognizing the bond that's shared between two people, and it can mean anything from marriage to a bond between really close friends.

As the article says though it could be good for Japanese LG community for SE at the very start of the system to allow SSHF (same sex hand fasting) and not even make a distinction.

Since what we have now is SE going "we have straight marriages, what do you think about SSM?".

Video games do effect society - not saying FFXIV ARR having SSHF will be a dramatic effect but you have to start the ball somewhere.

In the end it doesn't really matter to me what they call it. From a gameplay standpoint it would be pretty much the same thing, it just allows them to avoid messy PR issues if they really feel they must.
