When my spouse and I decided to go big in housing by transferring to Dynamis when it opened (giving away a medium FC we had on Faerie to a friend when we did so) everything we did in the game became focused on that goal.

We spent uncounted hours making the literally hundreds of millions of gil we thought we'd need. We spent even more hours leveling alts so we could form the FCs we'd need and place multiple bids on our target properties. We researched the names of the new world, and determined -- based on the lore associated with those names -- that Maduin and Marilith would probably offer the best opportunities. And then we transferred, and continued grinding gil and alts until the first auction.

End result, prime large sites on Maduin and Marilith. Later, we picked up adjacent smalls. Even later, we established FCs on Hali and picked up houses for them. Eventually we picked up some personal smalls, since they were there and we had gil leftover. Even later we abandoned half our personal houses because they were too much hassle for the incremental benefit.

All of this took work and a willingness to do what needed to be done.
We earned our houses.
So we have little to no sympathy for the people who think they are entitled to one.

The fact that you gave people a whole year to get the houses they wanted before buying up more for yourself is very kind. It makes the people complaining about the "unfairness" look like clowns lol. Those houses would take up server space whether you bought them or not and the only difference is that you are funding further development of the game by paying 9 subscriptions to own the houses you own.

I don't know if they have the self awareness to stop being mad at the results of their own choices. Can't wait to see more tear-stained screenshots of housing empires on dead worlds and read the complaints about "greed" and "loopholes" from complainers who have no characters on those worlds.

There's still quite a few smalls that no one wants on even populated servers in the FC ward, really want them to allow privates to buy those. There's like 4 in my ward alone, and my server is "congested".

I had 2 open houses in my ward in Excalibur, For about two months only one person bid n never claimed. Eventually, 2 players did come along and buy the plots. However they remain undecorated unused and just sit there.

The housing shortage on the forum isn't reflective of that in-game. Supply isn't meeting demand but players are also Choosing to be picky And rather have nothing and complain about it then getting anything and upgrading it later.

There’s another of my dream plot up this round, so I’ll put in a bid whenever I get on tonight… at this point, I just expect to lose. lol thankfully I have my second favorite plot, so that takes some of the sting out of the continual losses!

Is the plot a specific location you've been trying to get? Enter immediately since you're going to regardless. The higher the entry count is, the more likely it is to deter competition that isn't as picky.

Are you trying just to get a house, any house? Wait until the last time you will log in before the entry period ends so you can find the plot that has the least number of entries and improve your chances.

If the competition is low, like on an empty server or a fresh ward release: bid early to discourage other's bidding on the same plot as you. If there are 7 people bidding on 5 plots, you want to make your bid #1. Then there is at least a chance that the last 2 players place their bids somewhere else. Whereas if you wait to be the last, then you guarantee that someone else has already bid on the same plot as you.

If the competition is high and you want to maximize your odds: bid late to make sure you can tell which plot will end up with the least bids.

If you are going for one exact highly desirable plot regardless of other people's bidding behavior, bid whenever. You want a large and there is only one large available this round? Nothing you do will make a difference because all the other people going after a large don't have alternatives either.

So yeah.

It was 13 when i started to bid this time. and it was the only Medium avalible so. I expect feirce competition sadly.

I do think the game could benefit a lot from Updating the housing system.

So apparently people have found signs in the benchmark that we will actually be getting the previously planned 4 more servers for Dynamis and a whole new data center with 8 servers for EU. Not sure about when though.

That's a lot of mansions and mediums for people who want them. If anyone is willing to move servers for it, I'd suggest prepping now. Farm gil, make sure to meet the requirements and level all the characters you plan to bid with. Transfers will be free moving from a non-new server to a new server.

hm weird. I mean if it's for EU, that also means NA aswell. :shrug: who knows

After I posted that previously, some people grabbed the smalls lol. At least it seems like all but 2 are decorated and I see the neighbors a lot.

That sounds pretty suspicious. The benchmark is a stripped down app with very limited features. It shouldn't have any world server data attached to it. Even saved appearances from the main game are being retrieved from a file saved on the local client and not the game servers.

It's not like it's new information that those worlds were coming. We've known about them going back to 2021. YoshiP had already said they were going to hold off on the remaining planned new servers until an increase in player population made them necessary. That made Dawntrail launch a very likely time for them to do it.

The question becomes how many players are going to be willing to transfer at an expansion launch (and potentially be unable to play with their friends if data center travel is suspended due to congestion) just to get a house when they already have the opportunity to do it when content releases were lighter and so a transfer would be less disruptive.

We're at the point that it would take a lot more than a decent chance at a house and 10 Golden Chocobo Feathers to get people to move. Transferring players aren't going to care about Road to 90 because they're going to be focused on leveling and gearing jobs that were already at 90. It's a nice perk later on in the expansion for those who want to start leveling more jobs but not worth it if you're just going to get 10 somewhat faster levels for Viper and Pictomancer.

There is a reddit thread about the new server names and some other yet-to-be-announced things they pulled out of the benchmark. I don't have the technical knowledge to disprove or confirm any of it but it will be interesting to see if it ends up being accurate.

It's a very small number I'm sure. Doing it on launch is not a big difference in my opinion, because regardless of when they transfer, that will be their home server in future times of congestion as well especially if they manage to get a house they want to keep. This is mainly an option for people who are prepared to play on a quiet server and are aware of the benefits and drawbacks it causes. Many people don't have friends in-game to play with, for example. If any such players decide to take the leap to a new home, not only do they benefit themselves but also the players on overcrowded servers benefit from having slightly less competition and congestion.

That said, I don't believe DC travel will be suspended because it's a separate process from logins and people will probably not be constantly changing data centers for max level activities like hunts and PF parties when everyone is still doing MSQ and leveling new jobs. But we'll see!

Agreed. It will depend on how many players try to use data center travel to avoid log in congestion for their specific home world. If I remember correctly, we didn't have access to the world visit option through the character selection screen at the start of Endwalker so this is unknown territory with respect to an expansion launch.

That seems very suspect. As Jojoya mentioned the benchmark doesn't really interact with the servers so I couldn't see a good reason they would even put server info anywhere in the code of it. Also adding a DC to EU seems excessive given the amount of EU servers that are ghost towns (I play over there sometimes). If anything I would imagine NA getting another DC (maybe) but even thats a stretch as I imagine SE is waiting to see how many Xbox players we get here.

HOWEVER

Your second part is very sage advice as Cross-region travel becomes a thing - you can have WHATEVER house you want if you start leveling a character on Oceania....there are entire empty wards open for bidding in every district there.

Speaking as someone with game development experience, its not that uncommon. Trying to strip down an entire game into a single functional snippet can be a mammoth of a task since an absolutely ludicrous amount of systems/things in the stripped down app might be needing the full code systems they're referencing in order to properly function. For example, in the benchmark they'd need basically all the skill data in its entirely in order to properly render real-time skills being used in the benchmark, hence why its also been datamined.

It's the same reason why game demos these days are often ridiculously huge in size despite being a small section of the game, or back in ye olde days, would often just be the full game but with some arbitrary code inserted to force cut-off the player. It's easier to just leave way more information in your demo/benchmark/etc slice than is necessary since trying to meticulously bugfix/figure what the heck you need to include and can exclude in the demo/benchmark isn't worth the dev time in most cases. But this is also a double-edged sword since it makes the app more vulnerable to datamining.

Even beyond that, it's how people knew Cross-Region DC was coming almost a year in advance. Despite the fact the base clients had zero interaction with the system due to it not being implemented, Square did implement the special <tag> for it. Even if the benchmark doesn't interact with the servers in any way, if their latest build they were working on had already implemented the updated list of servers that would be coming, it'd be super easy to find it in the hexcode text dump.

Either way, from what I've read on the "mines" on reddit, it's *extremely* obvious to me they basically just ripped the latest build of their DT testing server at the time they created the benchmark and shimmied whatever was easiest to do off the data volume to reduce its size that wouldn't break things in order to ship it out the door. Hence why there's such very big stuff in the benchmark.

Oh it's totally way too many servers for EU. Every server has hundreds of houses right now, the newest ones more than a thousand. Although Limsa seems overcrowded at times I think it has to do with the fact I'm on Light DC where everyone travels to now. We don't need a single new EU server in my opinion. However, if they implement it for launch I'll happily use the travel feature to take advantage of a congestion-free dead DC. There are only a handful of trials and dungeons in the MSQ that require a group and those can be done with trusts now.

The one thing to remember is that not every player is interested in housing. The worlds aren't being added to give us more houses. They're being added to be manage log in wait times at expansion launch.

If congestion ends up bad, they likely will add the new worlds and hope players take advantage of them.

Please... PLEASE SE, can we get the option to upgrade small houses to Medium then to large? Or instanced? This lottery is so whack it's not even funny.... it's just bad. PLAIN BAD.

Definitely. Dynamis houses are slowly disappearing now that Xbox players are no longer limited to the free trial and they're able to keep gil. We still can't purchase in wards 25-30, though. Once those open, I imagine the larges and mediums will go fast but the smalls will take a little while to fill up. Still no one who is considering moving to Dynamis is gaining anything by waiting.

If you truly want a house, better to get a small now. If you're after a medium or large, you'll at least have less competition on Halicarnassus, Maduin and Marilith than you will on any of the other NA worlds once the last 6 wards are opened.

They did mention setting up another DC for us in EU not long after EW launched.

However, I question the need for it anymore. The new servers we got being fairly dead in the water from my experience.

During EW launch we had a pandemic and wow migration, of course SE sits on the numbers but from a player pov, it doesn’t seem necessary at this point.

I also doubt the launch going to be as chaotic as EW was due to changes to login servers, adding more hardware and move to the cloud. Plus, a summer release vs a winter one probably will have less stress on the servers due to holidays and warm weather etc.

And that's why the never opened the new EU data center they prepared for. At this point, it's not needed.

If DT launch ends up as congested as EW, despite the changes to the login servers and hardware updates, they may decide the new data center is needed. Any new world starts off dead. It takes a few years before they start feeling alive. Spriggan and Twintania were dead until the main WoW exodus began despite having been added 2 years earlier.

As for the cloud, they've never announced their conclusions that arrived at following the test. As smooth as things may have seemed to us players who participated once the first day congestion problems went away, I'm certain they were looking at far more than that. We don't know that they're going to start moving servers to the cloud or utilizing it in any way until they announce something.

Currently, if a house is abandoned during a lottery cycle, you can't bid on it. I was helping my friend scout for small houses the other day and there were several houses that said "unavailable for purchase"

It is curious that they’re not doing the same for NA though. They must consider Dynamis to still be too empty, even to open up the locked wards. Although I don’t remember… did EU get a new DC when NA got Dynamis? Or was it postponed and Shadow is the first? I remember them saying they were going to add 2 DCs to each at one point.

Oh I see… there was something about making every DC have 8 worlds so they would all be even I think. So Dynamis was planned to have 8 total worlds and we have half of that right now. I couldn’t remember how it was supposed to go lol
