Not by much, the difference between just repeating eye-eye instead of eye-bb is 20 potency. The problem is if the MT is either a PLD or DRK they'll need to swap from their dps combos (which don't have any enmity multipliers except for a small one on Savage Blade for pld) to their enmity combo regularly to keep the lead and for both of them the loss is much greater than what a WAR gains from eye-bb. PLD lose a lot of potency switching RA to RoH, the direct potency loss on DRK is small but more importantly they lose the MP they would've gotten from Syphon Strike if they have to use their enmity combo instead of DPS combo.

Though all of this is assuming the person tanking is actually trying to maximize their DPS instead of just spamming their enmity combo over and over.

If you're MT your default stance should be tank stance, if you're OT your default stance should be DPS. If you're MT and I can rip aggro off you when I'm OT and in DPS stance then you need to turn on tank stance or stop being MT, just like if any other DPS threatens to take your aggro. Your job is to hold hate, use your tools to do so. Whats best for your party is for the MT to hold hate so the DPS and OT tank don't have to hold back just so you can turn off tank stance. Also, War's highest DPS chain is Butchers block alternated with Storm's Eye for the debuff, so no we won't stop using it.

Everytime a War uses Butcher's block, he gains 20 potency over Storm's Eye.
In return, due to Butcher's Block hate modifier, every Butcher's block Combo an OT WAR uses, forces the PLD/DRK MT to use their hate combo instead in order to keep being ahead in aggro.
A DRK using PowerSlash over Delirium/DA+Souleater loses 70 potency including the Manaloss, a PLD using Rage of Halone over Royal Authority loses 90 potency.

So what is more important? A WAR gaining meager 20 potency by using Block and making the DRK/PLD lose 70/90 potency? Simple math says no.
And that is why the party gains more raidwide dps by having the WAR resort to Eye>Eye or Eye>Path spam when he's close to grabbing aggo. Anything else like the post above me is just selfish WARs speaking for themselves and only thinking of their own DPS.
DPS and aggro is a partywide responsibility, you play as a party and work out together what comes out as mathematically the best.

Had a party last night leveling my BRD in Gubal library. Our tank was an alright PLD, but the WHM and the NIN were just atrocious. Both kept standing in all the AoEs they could find (I had to constantly cleanse heavy off the healer during the first boss just so she could survive disclosure), and went randomly AFK at times, even midfight! Worse still, they were together so I couldn't kick them.

I flat out told them at the end that I hope I never get stuck with them again.

This is why I almost never give advice anymore. Either hostility or I get ignored. At this point, I'd rather see what's the best for the group and queue up. Try to do my best to make the run go as smooth as possible, trying to compensate their slackness or ignorance about their class. I know it might sound cocky, but we're all tired of farming the same thing over and over, we however still need these rewards. Some optimization here and there won't hurt. Make a run a bit less painless and a bit quicker, if possible.

So I might have crossed the line and I went straight to the Twilight Zone. I was on SCH and my GF was on SMN, we decided to do level 60 roulette and we got Gubal HM. We got paired up with a WAR and a melee DPS. The run went amazingly smooth, zero mistakes, things were melting. When we got to the Behemot book after the huge full after Living Flame, my protect was still at 22min left. The final boss died a second after he imp'd us. We had to split our commendations, because they did amazing. They did the same thing for us. <3 I wish I could meet them again in the future.

I know the BLMs Fire IVs are bumping up to a good 15-16K range on some Boss Mob battles. I notice it right away. The problem is, I know some people take this for granted, and forget to Com the Bard in the end. I at least try to.

Never thought I'd see the day I'd be posting here, I generally keep myself under the radar, make sure heals are on point and pitch in a decent amount of DPS.

So I queue for expert, get a pleasant enough party. The tank's pulling at a pace that is appropriate for our DPS. I'm managing good damage whilst keeping everyone topped with tight Eos management, I'm pitching in personal HPS as well where needed (aka the stretch to the first boss). No one went low, mobs died. Another day, another smooth Expert I thought.

Then we get to the Griffin. It started out pretty much in line with how the rest of the dungeon had been, mechanics weren't done perfectly but the boss was dieing. Then came Blade of the Griffin.... I baned my dots over from the boss, the bard also appeared to be on it as well. And then it explodes, the first time I've ever seen that mechanic failed. Both DPS get one shot by 26.6k hits, I barely survive with sub 1k hp along with the tank. Np I think, SC/Raise the monk, top us a bit and then raise the bard. Unfortunately restraining collar got me before my raise finished casting and it promptly wasn't killed in time. NP! I give a light hearted 'Oopsy =s' in /p and start running back. Then it decides to 'escalate' from there. The MNK decided to start taking offence with my DPS claiming that I wasn't healing (Ironically he had almost as much healing on him as the tank on boss #2 due to him ignoring the dynamic sensor mechanic and me adlo/lustrating him to ensure he didn't die to the AOE right after it, and for double irony points, it could be argued that if I DPSed more, that sword wouldn't have exploded!). Npnp, I point out that we failed to kill the sword which got them one shot and left it at that.

We had a second attempt, this time the sword was killed a bit quicker (by the bard mainly), but again, we got to restraining collar. It wasn't killed in time again (This time the bard and PLD got it close, the monk put 1 or two GCDs into it), the rest is best explained by the chat log screenshot I guess.

In honesty it wouldn't have really bothered me, it was a shame the run was abandoned as we easily could have killed it, as I stated in /say after, kill sword > kill collar = jobs done. We were never in any danger of dieing through a lack of healing and the party wide DPS was perfectly enough. But then the monk just had to start sending me /tells calling me a noob after the instance. V classy, and thus here I am, for the naysayers and curious, the full log of the run is uploaded and easily found with a search. I'm quietly confident that I ran that dungeon flawlessly and I can't think of anything short of spreading an adlo *after* the blade aoe that could have made it go any smoother (which would have still likely seen me dieing to the first collar anyway). It's a shame they logged when they did though, I really was interested in hearing their view on things.

Here's hoping they see this and then the log tbh, hopefully they will learn to cool their jets off a little and try to work out what actually went wrong before going off on someone seemingly at random.

IDK. Sometimes I can bard my ass off, and get no comms, while other times I'm tired and just go through the motions - not bad, but not optimal - and get 2 or 3. It's a strange beast.

I really hope you reported that monk to a GM. Sending you uninvited tells outside of the instance is definitely harassment. Especially since it wasn't even your fault that the instance was abandoned, or the mechanic failed. I don't understand these people that are so against healer DPS. What are we supposed to do then? Stand there picking our noses while we wait for someone to take damage? Sorry, no.

To those who answered my questions about WARs and Butcher's Block, much appreciated. I will practice rotating Eye > Path or Eye > Eye if I ever come to the point where I'm close to ripping aggro from an MT. My WAR may be 60, but I haven't played it all that much, so I have plenty to learn when it comes to it. :3

I did however ask an officer in his FC to pass him on a link to the log and the suggestion that he does his homework before he gives people stick. Otherwise yeah, he's either going to fall out with an FC healer or hassle someone who won't hold back on reporting him.

It's a shame as the BRD was even playing foes for me despite no proper caster, was a nice run otherwise <3

If there's so little incoming damage that both tanks are in dps stance and the WAR generates more enmity, wouldn't it make more sense for the WAR to be MT? Why limit what either tank can do?

Because pld and drk do more dmg as mt as opposed to ot. They have skills that proc off of blocks and parry which amounts to extra damage that cannot be triggered if they are OT

My story is a PotD story. Been a while since I've been in PotD, since I got so burnt out on it back when floors 51-200 were first released, but I've been running it again with my friends to level up my last few jobs, or just to have some fun. However, last two days were the first time in a while I've ventured in solo.

Now, I'm all for doing what the majority wants. Majority want to speed run? Okay, that's fine. Majority want to explore? No problem. I'm down with that, too. I'll basically do whatever the majority decides they want to do, and have no complaints over it because I honestly don't care either way. I had a group this evening that was the latter while running through on my DRG (I'm awful at it, but trying to at least level it to 60 before Stormblood; maybe if I get brave enough, I'll venture into dungeons, but for now, PotD only XD). The other two still had regular padjali weapons, and were exploring all of the rooms. I'm totally fine with that; it doesn't bother me at all. But, of course, there has to be one other person (with max aetherpool) making a big deal about others wanting to explore, and look for silver chests.

Majority want to explore? Deal with it. I don't care if you hover around by the portal while everyone else explores. You can do that; just stop complaining in chat about it, please. Same if majority want to speed run. Don't just make a big deal about it when people that don't have max aetherpool want to look for chests, or if the hoard is on the current floor and someone would like to find it. Just grinds my gears a little bit. If you really just want to speed run for exp, you can always jump in with a premade. I know the opposite holds true as well, but when 3/4 people want to explore and look for upgrades, just let them do that. If you don't want to, then you're free to leave, and rejoin in 30 minutes hoping for a group that shares your speed run mentality.

This wasn't even on floors 1-10 or 51-60, but on some of the middle floors (31-40). Let people that want upgrades get them; they can't progress in a matched party otherwise (actually ran into a player who said they'd been stuck on floors 31-40 last night as well, because people made such a big deal about them looking for silver chests that they hadn't been able to get decent enough upgrades to progress). Just...ugh. It really irritated me. :/


I did forget to add how a friend and I did Floors 1-30 tonight before he had to log off (he has to adult tomorrow morning at his job), and it seemed like I was triggering every single landmine and alluring trap on each floor. Every time he'd be like "Goddammit, Hyomin, I swear if you trigger another trap ONE MORE TIME!!!" And I would just respond with "I CAN'T HELP IT. MY CHARACTER IS LIKE A BEACON FOR THESE THINGS." That and "So, I should activate Blood for Blood each time I run into an Alluring Trap, right? ;D" since he was on his AST. XD

There should be an achievement for triggering every trap on a PotD run. XD Title of "Trap Magnet." Because that would be my character. Landmine, Toad (ugh, every time), Alluring, Pacification/Silence, she triggers them all. lol We ended up having a SMN for all three sets of floors (they're on our server), and they were probably like "I don't know what is wrong with these two people, but I'm going to stay FAR AWAY from them." XD

... don't give advice when you clearly don't know how to OT. Warrior alternates Butcher's Block every third combo because it's a raid DPS loss to force either of the other tanks to use their enmity combo just to offset your aggro climb. Insisting they stay in tank stance throughout is just plain silly. If I'm on Dark Knight and pull, I do one Power Slash combo and drop Grit-- two if I have a geared Black Mage/Monk. If you pull hate off me as a Warrior because you're BB spamming, congratulations, you're now the main tank. Don't like it? Don't be a selfish Warrior.

Leveling Roulette as DRK drops me into Titan normal. Cool, a nice quick one. I noticed we had a sprout MNK and WHM, and a bonus. The other DPS was a MCH. Okay, so I paused before pulling.

"Do I need to explain anything?" I wrote clearly in party chat.

"not for me" the MCH replied.

From the sprouts?

...

Nothing, of course. Zip, zilch, nada. Not a single peep of response. They could've taken 5 seconds, at the very most, to type "yes" or "no" in response to my offer of explaining the mechanics. I would've even accepted an emote of nodding or shaking their heads.

So, fine. Fine. I pulled. And naturally, the WHM died to the first Landslide that targeted them. We wiped, reset. I pulled again, the WHM repeated their mistake, we wiped again. Still not a single word from either of the sprouts. The MCH offers basic instructions like "Cancel your spell and get out of Landslide".

Third try. WHM survived Landslide, died to Geocrush, wipe us again. Finally, they write a single word: "why". Through an immense exertion of willpower, I managed to refrain from screaming. We cleared it on the 4th try.

TL;DR: Wiped 4 times on a simple trial because newbies couldn't be bothered to respond to an offer of mechanics explanations and advice.

No. Wiped 4 times because that WHM was a moron. You don't have to study rocket science to figure out Titan's landslide, especially not if you have already been hit by it.

I remember a similar group at Ifrit, I popped in there going... Ifrit? Really?

I was BLM at time, and had Physick from my Arcanist, the WHM died 3 times in a row, on the third time I just took over healing and left him there. going.... dude if you can't get this right, and you're a critical job like that, I'll just do it myself.

So the 3 of us cleared it without problems.

Had a Copperbell HM with the worst SCH ever played.

Myself on PLD, wife on MNK, random BRD and SCH. SCH summons Selene, and then does nothing but cast Physick. Literally nothing else. Things are dying really fast anyway, so I try to grin and bear it for a bit.

Then we get to the second boss. They turn on Cleric Stance!...and continue spamming Physick. The fairy is 8 miles away, so I'm constantly at no health. DPS handles the bombs no problem. The BRD is trying very hard to help the SCH out, Auto translating Cleric Stance and other spells. No dice.

After the fight, someone isn't rolling on loot. I assumed it was the Bard. I said "Roll so I can kick the SCH". The BRD said "They are stuck in Cleric's, but at least they're DPS'ing, right?" I reply "No, they're actually not."

Loot roll finishes, we kick them. BRD comes back in on AST, finish no problem.

Also ran Amdapor Keep this weekend, had to kick someone. Random BLM's "rotation" is the following:

Fire 3, Flare, Transpose, Blizzard 3 > Repeat

Single targets and AoE both. I called him out after the first boss. He said he was doing that "for fun" and told us to chill. ...No. Kicked him, replacement topped the charts, and cleared NP.

Bad tanks and healers can hold a group hostage, because they are hard to replace. DPS? You can be replaced faster than it takes to /sit.

I remember mentioning this before, but Leveling Roulette dropped me into Qarn normal, as a WAR, where I encountered a SCH who had Cleric Stance on and did nothing but spam Physick. When questioned, they stated that they had all their stat points allocated to INT for SMN, and genuinely believed that as SCH, Physick would heal more under CStance.

I pointed out that CStance reduces healing by 25% (can't recall the exact skill description right now). Apparently, they did not know this, nor did they ever bother to test out how much Physick heals with or without CStance. The test heals I asked them to perform took all of 10 seconds at the most.

At the end of the dungeon, I took a look at their search info. They had WHM at 60, and yet had no clue how a level 4 skill worked.

To this day, this encounter still has the power to make me stare into the distance and question humanity.

It's especially sad considering they could just hop in Titan with a friend and duo for ponies faster than waiting for WT parties to fill.

wanted to farm some lore and queued up for gubal hard.
I usually go as a healer(whm) because I hate lazy no-dps healers and I really do good dmg as a whm.
I saw right from the start how both dps hardly contributed anything dps-wise.
I was doing BY FAR FAR FAAAAAAAAAAAR the most dps there. Heck,even the tank who was a returner, did better.

So I waited until after the first boss. Asked the dps to put more effort since stuff is dying so slowly and overall dps is really poor.
Their comeback at me? Epic. "Poor healing". Um? No one died or even was close to while I still contributed the most, dps-wise.

Their gear? One was around 240 (SMN), other one was 260+ (NIN).
The 2 dps seemed to be a couple, ya know, having those super cute "<insert character name>, my love <333333" messages in their search comment (baaaaaaaaaaaaaarf!)

They then kindly told me theyre not "in the mood" to "put up with" my "sh*t". So I stopped dpsing halfway through the next pack and stuff died extremely, EXTREMELY slowly.
Health bars of mobs almost wouldnt move. I pointed out how extremely slow its going as I watched them kill stuff.

I put my faith into the tank having common sense and initiated a vote kick.....yes, I believed the tank would agree its best to replace them after letting him see how slow things went.
Well, too bad. It got rejected. He also shouldve seen it coming that obviously,after a failed attempt of kicking out one of the 2 lovebirds will result in me being kicked
since the votekick will go through with just 1 person agreeing with it. Well, if youd rather get rid of a dpsing healer than 2 lazy slobs...be my guest.
Also: No,the tank was NOT with those 2 dps ppl.

Sooo what happened next,you ask? I got kicked. Yeah, I know. Real shocker :D

Do I care about the kick? Nah, I'll gladly take a penalty-free kick over carrying those slobs.
But I'm amazed at how many people will just go with ANYTHING rather than kicking...and thats something I will never understand.

I went to a dummy afterwards and and did a 1-2-3 combo as a NIN for a while,and I did significantly more dps already. And I even forgot to put on my poison for that LOL.
Heck, I went as far as only spamming ONE BUTTON (Spinning Edge) (with poison this time) and still did more than this guy did.
I also never play NIN. Im far from good.

Now, if anyone has any objections and wants to justify this as a "playstyle"...please kindly let me know.
I really do wonder why youd even bother playing a game if pushing more than 1 button is already too much to ask from you.
It's not really fun. And having 20+ skills and only using 1 and ignoring the rest cannot be blamed on the game "not teaching enough".

It's laziness,nothing else.

Some people just have a thing about it. I don't understand it, but I can verify that it's a thing.

I ran into a level 60 DRK who didn't use Darkside at all. He was decked out in scripture gear and had the ilvl 260 anima (With parry rating added to it for...some reason), so he likely had been playing the class for a while.

As someone who regularly uses the class for tanking and tries to go Grit-less as often as possible to maximize DPS, I really felt like saying something, but ultimately didn't, which I mildly regret.

I have this problem as well. I go into content with the mindset of doing my best to make the best experience for the group (generally meaning the fastest, smoothest, most by-the-book run). So I have a difficult time kicking somebody from 4-player content. I know I've made that person's experience worse and that I'll be making the other people wait for a rep to continue (or worse, have everyone abandon the run and waste their time). But, frankly, I think as a whole we need to start kicking more people for the greater good. The game is throwing a lot of players into content they're completely unprepared for and we can't fix that part but continuing to coddle them and carry them only exacerbates the problem.

What's up with bossy beavers in dead content?

I did a few "legacy/obsolete" instances recently for nostalgia - namely Garuda EX and lab/st/wod - and in each was at least one person who spent more time explaining mechanics and ordering people around than healing (yes they were all healers). I don't know who they thought they were helping.

To the AST who thought the raid of all 60s - all who had clearly done lab many times - needed your constant all-caps orders and explanations, please be quiet.

I did a few "legacy/obsolete" instances recently for nostalgia - namely Garuda EX and lab/st/wod - and in each was at least one person who spent more time explaining mechanics and ordering people around than healing (yes they were all healers). I don't know who they thought they were helping.

That's the kind of mentality i just can't stand.
As a mentor it's just horrible when people don't wanna communicate, listen or try to understand things.

I'm sorry you misunderstood. A raid of 60s without a "new player bonus" alert at the beginning means nobody needs your all-caps orders.

I've only vote kicked one person to date, and it was a rude healer who decided he wanted to full clear the Stone Vigil without telling the tank, and thus started pulling enemies from side rooms while the former was busy following the usual path.

When we inevitably wiped, he had the nerve to blame the tank for it, then started threatening to report them for "harassment" when they tried to explain proper etiquette to them in a perfectly civil manner.

Don't be so sure about that. Yeah, they had all done it at least once before - but for some it might have months since the first and only time they did that instance.
If nothing else reading this thread should prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that some people won't know what to do even if they have done the content before.

Too much explanation is often better than too little.

My bad.

But as someone said, if you're experienced wipes, i don't see anything wrong in giving advices. Moreover about the synch ARR primals, people have been farming them unsynch since years.

All caps isn't probably the best way to put it across, but yeah I'm a healer and in legacy trials I've often got plenty of time between dots where making some (More polite I'll add!) calls can be more beneficial to the group than just spamming Malefic, my Ramuh story mode roulette yesterday was a prime example of this.

Yeah that attack hits hard even as a tank. As shown here, it hits pretty hard with no cooldowns. A healer in the Reddit Discord said "it only hits for 20k" as a response to me saying it hits pretty hard with no cds. Like yeah, if you don't count Shield Oath/Grit/Inner Beast as a cooldown sure it's only 20k.

I needed to finish the Heavensward Post Dragonsong storyline to be ready for Stormblood so this meant that i was "Forced" to tank a few story-related dungeons.
As i did not do PVE content for many months now, i was a bit rusty and worried but i needed to get it done, so i queued up.

The first three dungeons were quite fun and i had no issues whatsoever tanking and keeping aggro and players were overall okay with my performance.
However, the final story dungeon ¿Baelsar´s wall? was a completely different story.

My iLVL barely reached the minimum (225?) to enter the dungeon but everyone else was ilv260/280 geared, including one very dps obsessed Monk.
Between the fact that i am not the greatest tank and the fact everyone else was way better geared than me, i was having trouble keeping aggro on myself in some instances.

Everyone else but the Monk told me not to worry and simply accepted to slow down a bit the pace so that it would be manageable for me, as they understood it was not easy for me given the circumstances.
However, the Monk kept huffing and puffing and just going all out on every pull and every boss before i could even build some aggro, stealing them for himself over and over again, cue a lot of insults going my way.

Furthermore, the Healer complained to the Monk about the fact that he was not dodging any of the monsters attacks to which the Monk answered that he was trying to maximize his dps and that when he did guild runs, he did not need to dodge or worry about aggro.

I asked him to please just slow down a bit for the sake of letting me build some aggro but he refused outright and insulted me for the rest of the dungeon, and complained that the others would not kick me.
Finally, on the last boss, as soon as i pulled him he jumped forward and unleashed hell which promptly caused the boss to target him, and then cast the beam attack which caused him to die.

He refused res and said he would not res ´til they got another tank.
We still managed to kill the boss without him.

Now, it is not that i cannot see his points and that i should have tanked better or gear up a bit before joining, and i understand that when you are burnt from doing the same dungeon that gives you no upgrades whatsoever, it may be a bit frustrating to get stuck with a slow/new tank that will not pull half a dungeon and survive to live the tale.

But his attitude and his obsession with being top dps did nothing to help the situation and just made for a very frustrating run for everyone.

But hey, at least i made friends with the healer.
