That particular discrepancy is easily explained by the fact that the amount of effort required to fill out an entire survey and the amount of effort required to click a check box on a poll are completely different (hence, also, the large discrepancy in overall number of responses). In that case we can simply defer to the simpler poll as a more accurate representation of the player base. The more detailed poll still gives us a very interesting picture of how the player base is responding to the expansion, however, particularly in terms of what they liked and what they didn't like.

The fact that MCH is at the very bottom of every single poll certainly says something. BRD being so close to the bottom every time instead of at the very top like they used to be also says something. Whether or not you take these polls as 100% fact, they still serve as very useful barometers of where the player base stands.

Mind you, when I say it is "indisputable" that there is a problem, I mean it. You can quibble over the accuracy of these polls all you want to. The fact remains that the difference between before Heavensward and after Heavensward is HUGE regardless of what sources you use.

I also have to mention that I never claimed 100% accuracy, just very close to it, which is what the whole point of probability and sample size confidence levels are for. A very high confidence level is still enough to render dispute largely pointless. You're not going to be able to take a survey with a sample so biased that it turns the results around. That's just not going to happen.

Simply nerfing a class because its too mobile is just bad game design. Talk about taking the easy way out....

It still proves nothing. Let alone WM is the reason there are less players playing bard. Many people picked up the new classes or chnaged to better meet their statics needs. Idk how you think the polls prove anything it is like saying the les pirates there are the more gobal warming.

I started playing like bard when HW was released, during Early Access. BRD was my first lvl 60, I have played every content like BRD, then I took the MCH to 60 too, and I clear all the current content like MCH, and finally I took NIN to 60, and I clear the content like NIN again and I have to say "Ninja is really really funny, If you are not enjoying current state of BRD or MCH, for real, I must say to You, test other Jobs, .

Ninja is amazing...I dont understand why SE can design funny jobs like Ninjas and at the same time destroy a funny gameplay job like old BRD was...no sense for my...

My static counts with me like BRD or MCH, but I'm not gonna play like BRD or MCH if TP or MP regen is not needed...why? easy, I like NIN much more than current state of BRD or MCH, If some encounter really need MP or TP regen, fine, I'm gonna be forced to play BRD or MCH (By myself ofc), I'm not gonna enjoy this encounters at all, but I'm gonna do the best for the group.

Most people here don't just have one class. I've played Nin to 50. I don't like it. WHM to 50. Don't like it. I picked archer for a reason, made my peace with people only seeing us as a tp/mp battery once I hit bard, and now I don't like this entirely different play style. Many many people who dislike these changes have already played the other classes, and yet chose to main bard. So this point is moot and it would be nice if people would stop telling us to simply switch classes. I have two jobs to 50 and one to 58. I don't like the others, and some career bards feel the same.

Career Bard here as well...just love the job, always will. I am torn on this to no end. I loved the old Bard better, but I am becoming use to the new play style. I have got my rotation down now and am doing good dps, just will always miss the old day...awwwwwwww.
But yeah...play all jobs and have all to 50 and working now on getting all to 60...like all the jobs and find them all good in their own way and just makes you better at the game knowing how to play all the jobs. I wish people would stop telling Bards how to feel as well...but oh well, let them chime in, it's all good. Maybe we will get some better stuff in 4.0 in a few years...here's to hoping.

I dislike playing my Bard now. I got mine to 60 and have around 4-5 items left to upgrade with the centrino seals when I went Awww f***k this shit. So I have a Dragoon to lev.49 right now but I am not really enjoying it.

I want my f**king Bard back. It is currently broken. I hate this stand and shoot business.

I'm not saying "If you are not enjoying current state of BRD or MCH, You should stop to cry and shut up !! " no no no...people can say anything, I was pointing my current experience here.

It isn't that I'm unhappy with how they changed brd. Honestly I never saw much reason to move all that much unless it was necessary, thus the turret stance isn't that much different than how I used to play. Honestly, only time I find it a hindrance is when I do need to move or when it comes to easily weaving off gcd skills. As I've said many times already, I simply wish being in WM had something to make up for the loss of AA such as a generic potency upgrade to DoT damage. I'm still annoyed with the potency nerf to Sidewinder also, but the overall loss of autoattacks that isn't really compensated for makes the WM buff seem less than it is over all.

Yes it is a damage increase, any brd worth their salt can see that regardless of if there are Auto attacks or not, or even if it hinders mobility just because of how they changed brd as a whole. Even with the det change to auto attacks, the new barrage in WM isn't as strong as the old barrage without Det change to auto attacks.

On top of this, without Auto attack and the 30% buff affecting DoTs they don't even compensate for damage without WM up and AAs; still come up roughly 150~200 dmg per activation less which is an obvious oversight of damage not scaling proportionately between the stances. This could be corrected by giving even a 10~15 potency upgrade on DoTs when in WM stance that is also affected by the 30% buff still.

4. Mobility was clearly the class design that SE was going after, Bards were required to dodge aoe's just like everyone else, albeit they could keep up time on the boss while doing it. AA's will not be missed if you strafe move.
There is nothing wrong with this design choice at all, this made Bards a prime candidate for handling a multitude of mechanics, take a look at T7 savage.

5. I am glad that it only took you two weeks to master the class, I don't understand what relevance this has towards the subject at hand, because as far as I am concerned no class in this game is difficult to play, its understanding how a class plays out within the context of a certain encounter the poses any form of a difficulty.

Nope it takes a Bard main to realize how terrible this design change is, every point you made previously just misses the mark.

To wrap this up a simple solution to the current bard problem is to increase weapon damage by 1 across the board.
Make WM a 120S cooldown that negates the 15% dps loss from songs for 15s.
Make WP a 120S group aoe buff (with the same range as songs)

True. What if they changed it to allow party members to move while casting. This would give the dps boost they want while keeping us support. Casters would love us during heavy mechanic situations. Instead of us doing more damage, our party is doing it for us via blm/smn not having to interrupt for dodges. Make it drain MP, not usable with other songs. Would make more sense with the name.

Supports do less damage than pure DPS jobs, then If You know that your team does not need support, you are doing less DPS and not supporting...then I think is better play like a pure DPS job instead a support. It's a good logic I think...if You want the best for your group...

Now the WM problems might be addressed, they did say they were looking into it.

Also, no good static groups say that they "carry" their bard. All of the people in that group know that the brd does what they can dps/tp/mp battery that allows the others to do their job a little easier and the fight go smoother.

I'm top DPS like BRD/MCH in DF too...but with my static, my mates are good players, I mean, at the same skill lvl, BRD and MCH do less damage, if You are top DPS with your static, I'm sorry, but your mates are not doing the best with their jobs.

Every player with BRD or MCH like main job does not need to have a second job if He does not want it, but If You wanna be useful during every encounter, It's a good idea have other Jobs and help as mach as possible to your team.

For instance, during A3, my static does not need support, then I play like NIN, and when I'm gonna use Trick Attack, I used to notice that to my mates for max damage output, It's just an idea. Like BRD or MCH I used to do less damage than NIN, like 10-15% and Trick Attack used to be a bit better than Foe or Hypercharge...this means more damage from my part and more damage to my party. Boss is killed quickily and token farm turn a bit smooth just changing my job :).

there are parses of a bard in Alexander 1 doing 1230 dps in a 2 min 40 fight. Up to 2 min 20 there is still only one boss so its mostly single target dps

BRD and MCH are not bad DPS, They are doing just a bit less damage than other pure DPS jobs at the same skill level, like 10-15% less, during 2.x You can do the same DPS than other pure DPS job if a lot of movement was needed, but right now, You are casting too, then during high movement situations, You lose DPS too.

I always felt like BRD did less damage because of mobility and uptime, not because of the support songs - which have a built in nerf that I don't agree with, but that's a whole other can of worms. Point being, gaining mobility and losing a small amount of DPS always felt fair to me before.

Now they want us to gain DPS but be locked in place as a trade off. Again, sounds fair enough. Except we're still not pulling the numbers of, say, an equally geared/skilled BLM. And if these forums are to be believed, that shoudl never be the case because BRD can turn off WM and become mobile again. So apparently even the option of mobility means we should still be weaker? It's a poorly thought out mess as it stands.

That said, I'm at least glad they buffed WM so I don't feel like I'm dragging my team down by playing my favorite job.

They didn't break brd. They just stopped it being for lazy people. Bard in 2.xx was honestly the most boring class i ever played. I almost fell asleep in raids.

I can at least understand this mentality. Bard's GCD abilities are very simple, but really they were not that big a part of the play of the class. The problem is they are a fair bit of the damage. This means it's really easy to get 80% and think that's all there is to it. It's that last 20% that most of the play, complexity, and fun come from. Bard only had 4 GCD skills that were actually used on single targets. We kept up our crit buff, kept up our dots, and then went on to our filler. The GCD is very boring when you're not responding instantly to the proc on our crit buff. This is the spot where it got fun and threw a wrench in everything. Now, unless we're reapplying dots, we're deciding in the last third of the CD on whether to do our filler or to respond to the proc. This is what made the GCD skills fun and complex. We never knew what we were going to do until the very last moment.

The other 2/3 of the time we were in the oGCD. This was the biggest part of the play. This was where our minds spent most of our time. The problem here, again, was the reward for optimal play was very minor compared to just rolling one's hand over the keyboard.

This ultimately is the problem with WM. It greatly simplifies the GCD by reducing the number of skills used (our dots are applied as one under WM) and removing the ability to respond instantly to the proc (the only complex bit of our GCD). It then adds a 1.5 sec cast time, effectively doubling our focus on this now simpler than ever aspect of our class. Our oGCD is halved, minimizing the previous focus of the class. WM then adds another oGCD that's casted and on a 15 sec CD to a glass that's already overflowing, creating a very awkward feel.

I don't agree with SE, because when TP or MP regen isn't needed and I'm playing like BRD or MCH I feel really frustrated checking my parser, It's just like:

I don't get this.
With wanderer's minuet on, it plays like a slower paced bard that you don't have to worry about facing bosses to get auto attacks, and requires slower reaction time than non minuet bard

I'm going to withhold my own opinion on this one, but I can actually understand their thoughts on this. You have a sense of security, you know that if there's something coming up, you can turn it off, do slightly less damage, but at least you can get out safely.
Having the option of mobility is similar to having the option of singing MP/TP. As party member, if you have a Bard in your team, you feel safer because you know if you fuck up somehow, you still got the Bard. This directly affects how well you play (may vary in endgame statics, which is not the majority of though.). Point is, you play better because you have a Bard in your party, even if he doesn't do anything.

In my case, I love how MCH works, for real, but every time that I check the parser and I see that I'm doing the worst DPS of my party, doing a really good rotation, using every CD rightly, I'm not bringing TP/MP regen and I can't help with hard movement mechanics because I have to cast shit currently...I get frustrated and depressed...then I take NIN, I don't do a perfect rotation yet, however I can be Top/Second DPS and bring support to my party with Trick Attack every minute...

i feel the same way, in 2.0 i was able to be middle of the pack in some encounters , i did low dmg but caster were forced to move and melees to disconect while i was able to keep dpsing....so in some bosses i was 2nd or 3rd , while providing foe , and mp/tp regen when needed .

fast forward 3.0 , im not able to feel like im contributing when healers dont need mp , melees dont need tp , and foe is casted because im brd and always start the pull with foe (1 mage or 1 healer does some dps) , after that meh....i feel like im slowing down my party with my poor dps , and sometimes think , if i was another dps... this party would have been way better....but my FC wants me to play BRD (is the job i enjoy(ed)?)....i like to play archers and feel usefull so brd is good , but when your support isnt need and your dps is low , u dont feel usefull and more like a burden

Absolutely hate it, if I wanted to play BLM I would have just played the real thing. Even if you enjoy this new minuet garbage, BRD is still lower dps than MCH right now and needs help badly both in number adjustment and quality of life fixes. I understand the people who complain about the clunkiness, but adding less opportunity to double weave ogcds adds a little more to the job. You have to know when it's actually an increase to push back your casts in favor of double weaving, and in a situation of single-weaving gcds you have to know what's tip-top priority over just hitting whatever's not on cooldown, which was the case with BRD before everywhere besides holding BFB to line up with barrage.
You can't hit procs anymore on reaction but the loss from missing a proc for a GCD, was minor AND very unlikely to begin with because you need 2 SS procs in a row (effectively 2% chance of this happening) for it to be a loss at all.
