Hello Everyone,
In the past, in another thread Yoshida producer has commented the following.
Quote:
Quote from YoshiP – Feb 2, 2011
Everyone, thank you for reporting the problems with the MAP; just like everyone else, I also agree the MAP is has a lot of problems (Feels the map is matter of crisis.) This will be a huge amount of work to be put into, but we are taking steps forward to planning a redesign.
But as we pointed out before, to fix this from the root it will require us a lot of time.
For that reason, we are looking into fixing the current map’s collision (getting stuck on bumps, and small steps) as we go. For fixing the root problem we are looking into this as a long-term plan.
This is a answer to the fundamental design for the throughout plan; within this plan we have plans to redesigning within single areas
(Sorry for making the prior text long)
With this we have brought the shared thoughts you had to Yoshida producer today.
Firstly for overall direction of plans, we are still planning intensive renovation work is being made.
Also, regarding the main thread’s main topic “All level monsters being in single areas”
Just like reviews from previous, we feel the need to redesign but now feel much more is needed. For the changes we are aiming to have “a specific theme for each area”
But just like previously commented the workload for this is enormous and even to give out information for specifics will take considerable time, we hope you can understand this. As we see new things we will report it clearly to all.
I think they already done something about it in these 4 months and it seems they are just inside the problem (redesigning) right now. We have only to wait little longer.
I can see them getting the other regions released first before tackling the existing ones. They are mostly ready anyway, and as such don't need as much work put into them. We are getting the beastmen stronghold regions in 1.19. After that comes Ishgard and probably Dravania. Perhaps after that the redesign will be complete. As long as we have something new to look forward to as far as areas go, it should be fine.
This wasn't just a "we're looking into it".
"redesigning within single areas"
~and~
“a specific theme for each area”
I think it can be inferred that mob species/level will correlate with the new maps. This is exactly what we are asking for.
EDIT:
I just want to ask people to really think before they start complaining about wanting more information on this. Honestly what more can we ask of them at this point of the re-development of the game? (a dev post in this thread would be nice, but it will say the same thing)
Areas are intended like part North, South, East and West of every region i presume. In that case, would be awesome :)
Well let's just hope that what they mean bythat they mean each sub-zone of the zone and not just each big zone.Quote:
"For the changes we are aiming to have “a specific theme for each area”

I guess true but at same time what does SE have in mind for redesigning within single areas, specific theme for each area? If they just release without getting players input... I'm afraid it's going to be FFXIV Alpha/Beta all over again (we're still in beta right?) I want to know how much does SE understand players inputs. Just show us a sketch or their version of map ideas they have in mind just like others made maps on this thread. I'd rather see it than just hear from them... done enough of that in FFXI and get disappointed.
I sure hope their single-area means sub-zone as well
Meh... what the hell I already waited this long, only can hope for better since I really want to keep continuing to play this game just like I did XI for 6-7 years... maybe 8... i forget already lol. Sorry for me bit**ing... I have small gaming company friends who LOVES to talk about their ideas + old friends who inspired me to wanting to become a game programmer since I was 8 so for me I wanted game devs to be more... I just have too much expectation from them I guess... sorry.
We are aiming to have “a specific theme for each area”
I likes this.
Shall we do another 100 posts on speculation to what this means? That'll get us to 1000, which means we shall deserve a beer and a smoke whislt feeling rather smug with ourselves.
I think people misunderstood when SE told maps are being re-done.
Some of the collisions were tweaked that's it. Unless SE VERY CLEARLY states that some change is coming then it's not and it's not in development either.
If a small battle tweak like AA has been advertised since I dunno half a year ago(?) then you honestly think they'd hold a carrot like that out of public knowledge? I don't think so.
Also given the pace at which these small tweaks have been worked on I don't think it's realistic to expect anything else than a few huts here and there in the landscapes.
Personally I feel very discouraged to continue playing a game that's built around such a bland core as the landscapes are because it would mean I'd have to look at the same hills for years to come.
Right now I feel like the words overhaul and re-build were just empty hyperbole because there is NOTHING in the list of upcoming features that would qualify the use of those words in the context of XIV.
If they told us specifics, how do you expect them to let us get our hopes up and go wild imagining the possibilities only to be crushed by the weight of our own expectations? COME ON, PEOPLE! THINK!
The JPN rep just quoted what Yoshida posted back in March - that same post that a lot of us referred to in this thread, where Yoshi talked about planning to redesign the "MAP".
As I had guessed, it's basically a confirmation of that plan, with the emphasis that it's gonna take a long time so please be patient. I mean, other than the general plan, there really isn't that much else concrete to share at this moment in time besides what had already been said before. There are, however, a couple clarifications in today's CR that should be satisfying to most of you:
"(YoshiP's March post) was an answer regarding fundamental changes and fixes to the MAP, and please also consider each area's level design as included in that statement."
"We're planning to give each area its own theme.
The post concludes with a reaffirmation that like what YoshiP posted in March, it's gonna take a long time. If anything new happens, we'll tell you.
They said they're working on it. The collision detection was just something that was possibly to achieve in the short term. The long-term goals involve more substantial changes. That was what YoshiP's post (and today's JPN post) was talking about.
They can't tell us specifics because there are no specifics yet. Just general plans and overall goals. They never said as much, but I assume that with everyone working on battle reform and new content, there isn't a lot of time to devote to map redesign and testing at the moment, but they WILL do something about it. It's just a matter of time.
Give 'em a break, the JPN post was written at 9AM PST. The NA reps were just getting into work.
You're more than welcome to your opinion on the matter but I don't think it's just "collision detection". The words re-build, drastic, radical and re-design does not tell me that all they're thinking about is minor "tweaks". It tells me they are going to be working long and hard on completely remaking a lot of the copypasta.
To even further that:
tells me that they have a solid plan to redo the world.Quote:
"We're planning to give each area its own theme."
The list of upcoming features spans roughly up until August/September. That's all. Just because there is nothing of this current "world redesign" means absolutely nothing. They're probably gonna start implementing it after summer is over up until PS3 launch. This would make the most sense.
Change is coming. People in this thread should be happier as opposed to more discouraged. Even if it was a vague answer to what our almost 100 pages is asking, it's something. There is surely more information to come.
Hi All,
First, Reinheart, "Thank You!" for the translation of the JP Community Rep reply from Yoshida-san! Very cool. :)
Secondly, while it's frustrating that we got nothing yet, there are some positive notes in here (and to the naysayers who think we're getting nothing, I think it's clearly stated here that Square acknowledges the very core problem we're complaining about, *and* they are in the midst of changing it).

If they are planning a major redesign, that's an enormous amount of work. 3 months isn't going to be enough time at all. Just some of the particulars they'd have to deal with include:
* Overall Eorzea Continent Changes. Where does Ul'dah, Limsa and Gridania lay now?
* Starter Areas: From the City outwards, what are the new starter areas and how does that change.
* Connecting Starter Areas to Next Rank Up Areas. What are the themes and layouts for those?
* From Next Rank Up to the Mid Level Areas.
* Mid Level to 40's.
* How does all this tie into Mor Dhona and Coerthas? (And eventually Ishgard?)
* How do we possibly salvage and re-use some of the existing textures and areas that are distinct? Like Nanawa Mines, Cassiopeia Hollow, Tam Tara Deepcroft?
* The above is just planning and layout.
* Then have the Concept Artists come up with the "specific theme" for each area that they mention in the JP post. That needs to be vetted and checked to see if it is distinct and standout with the Art Director and Creative Team.
* Then have the Artists start generating initial Designs, Textures, Geometry, Lighting.
* Then Designers go through and test this all out, making sure the new areas are distinct and work for the needs they're going for.
* Then going through 2nd Pass for Art, Design, etc.
* Optimizing, QA, Bug Fixes.
* Somewhere in there the Design / Combat Team need to readjust Old Monster Placement and possibly add New Monsters. Where will all the Rank 20 Undead go? What about Aldgoats? etc.
I'm not defending SE, but there really is a massive amount of work to go into a major restructuring of your entire game world, if that's what they're doing.
And from the JP Rep's newest post (last night) speaking with Yoshida-san, it sounds like our voices HAVE been heard and they are working on it.
This is great news. :)
Would we like to have it "NOW!!!" and play around in it? Sure.
But if they need time, they need time and the above example is something that can't be done in just 2 or 3 months, if they're also working on 2 new Raid Dungeons, 3 Frontier Quest Hubs, Grand Companies, and other changes coming down the pipeline.
Hopefully today's "The Last Word" (on Lodestone) with the coming 7th Umbral Age *is* a start of some restructuring (I can't wait)! :)
So let's stay positive! (^_~)
I hope so lol, hope they don't have god mode on where click map -> summon character with super gear, and testing in triple speed mode (good for developing/testing) but forgetting that's actually 3x and not regular speed lolol
Anyways I don't think it wouldn't hurt to keep posting ideas on here if the devs surely are looking at it, and using good ideas from different players + their own ideas to remake FFXIV the way we all want it.
Would be surprising if SE adds one small change in 1.18 just adding something to already existing map that adds uniqueness to a sub-area that we talk about and say boom! see it's possible; and we're actually working on it so please wait. Kind of like showing your dog a dog treat and saying sit!... sure I'll sit lol hopefully not for 1 extra year though... dunno how much time SE got.
I expect them, if they do anything, they will vary the geometry of areas that are identical and add more landmarks. People who think they're going to change the continent or think we're getting new zones are completely out of their mind.
Yup keeping the discussion up is a good thing, and I think the sketched/pics and stuff people came up with that were added on the OP could actually help the designer/concept artists to come up with something good faster.
Not really out of our mind if you take that they will give each area it's own theme as was mentionned in the rep's reply which was what Yoshi said in march. So, that would imply a major change in the environment of each area, not only just different ground layout and a landmark here and there.
some well placed changes, landmarks or even colour changes might do the trick together with mob placments imo.
roaming animal herds in uldah gathering at some kind of pond/oasis etc. etc.
if they get rid of the copy pasted stuff and replace or sometimes just rotate things that would even help. or decrease/increase/recolour textures... i also don't think they will completely redo the areas.
On the other hand ... these zones are pretty big and a lot of love and engine optimisation is needed to get a turnaround here. So who knows :D i just hope for the best but expect nothing.
Siobu - just a suggestion but for the threads in other language boards that has been responded could you add a link to the translated (or original post fro mod) into the OP? might be easier for some people just starting to read going through 91 pages lol.

This game is going to undergo a dramatic overhaul. The constant negativity is really getting on my nerves now, as well as the seeming lack of understanding that things are going to...you know...change. Not just small changes, but large scale changes. The combat system is currently getting overhauled (And easy as it is to think that that is 'nothing' it is a pretty large scale undertaking, to say the least) and that is but the beginning of everything.
As I've said many times before, they really should have shut down the servers for the year or more it is probably going to take them to do this correctly, as at the moment it is like popping in on an artist who has thrown his latest crumpled effort in the bin, unfurled it and told him it is crap, even as he begins working on another piece. Honestly, I am still in 'pre-launch' hype for this game (particularly after hearing the different music used in the Auto-Attack video...documented, no - but seems that will be one of the changes we may see)
I'm glad to see the update from the Japanese forum, though I remembered the quote from back then, saying that I didn't expect them to redo all the zones with themes to them, which is a pleasant surprise. Anyway, until this game is properly ready I have plenty of other stuff to do minus depress myself on these forums, so thank you all for your time and see you in a few months.
*haunts the Lodestone main page*
Well said, I too think they should have closed the servers and do the changes, while keeping a beta server test of course for player feedback. All it did right now with allowing everyone to play for free is yes more feedback but also a lot of boredom and quiting since there is nothing to do right now. Also once all the content is added, everyone and their mom will have multiple classes/jobs at max level and people already have way too many gils, the economy and fun are greatly hurt because of that.
now if they could just tell us in this monstrous thread what the deal is, so we all understand it, without need to deal with translation issues (they can sometimes be hard to understand, even the official English statements) I think people would calm down more on this specific issue....yet we still have NO RESPONSE AT ALL.
As for them shutting the servers down, im in 100% agreement, leaving them all one not only costs them more money, but gets all the people on the fence, playing it more then they should, then getting tired of waiting for stuff and bail completely.
Greetings everyone,
I apologize for the delay in getting a comment to you all about this. We are aware it is a hot topic in the forum, but it’s one that is difficult to provide a satisfactory comment on. Firstly, I want to bring attention to the following comment was posted by Yoshida on the Japanese forum back in March:
We brought up the concerns being presented by the community, as well as the comment made above, to Yoshida again today.
In regards to the overall direction, he said that nothing has changed and he is still dedicated and moving forward with the edit work.
Next, in regards to the main focus of this thread, that the game is just a single area filled with monsters of different levels; the necessity to revamp this has not changed and we feel stronger than ever that along with the edits, each area should have its own specific theme.
However, as stated by Yoshida in the comment before, please understand that there is a large amount of work to be done and it will take some time before we can even share the information with you. Once the new designs start to take shape, we will make it our top priority to share them with you.
Finally !!!
Thanks Bayohne!
We knew this was not an easy thread to reply to and we were ready to wait as long as needed to get an answer. Your answer sums it up and is in line with what we learned from the JP forums. If I may ask for just one specific thing, when you say area will have their own theme do you/Yoshi' mean "area" is like Thanalan - Noscea - Black Shroud or that each sub-area within the thanalan (for exemple) region should each have their own theme?
I think just by answering this you will settle the matter discussed here greatly.
Edit: And also, I think everyone is willing to be patient if it means the world will be rebuilt drastically so no worries about it being a long-term project, we just want some hope to save Eorzea from blandness.
woooooooooooooooootttt
Everyone's invited! http://seahorror.com/happyparade.jpg
Thank you, Bayohne!
And thank you to EVERYONE who has been supporting this thread for the last 10 days. This thread gives me hope, a unifying voice of the worldwide player base... I hope everyone here can take something from this.
Just a short response for now, as I must quickly make some adjustments to the first post. :)
the very hight best ever reply form Bayohne since the begining of the game !
Way to go siobu, well deserved thread recognition.
