The PARTY dictates the pace in FFXIV. The dungeons are also designed to be done as collect two packs, dispatch, repeat, boss. How anyone is "pulling" when everyone should be "there" just boggles my mind. Sprint is a level 1 ability lmao.

The tank's job isn't to baby sit. The DPS will be fine, as long as the tank isn't brain dead.

A self admitted YPYT in the wild is crazy. SE only defines the tank's role as the shield of the group. They gave you ONE BUTTON to take all the aggro. Turning off stance to throw a hissy fit in a group game is insane.

In FFXIV, everyone is a DPS. You get additional duties are part of your role but above all else everyone has self mitigation, a way to heal, and DPS skills. They can take care of themselves while the tank collects the emnity.

Y'all really need to use trusts if your ego is so big that you get upset and throw a tantrum if a DPS happens to get ahead of you for a whole second.

And we are still circling this topic as if the answer wasnt staring us in the face.

I know forums are more complicated chat exercises than the majority of you want to engage in with other players, but in the game? We aren't moving past this.

If im being expected to adhere to my traditional role, ie pull the aggro off you, then im going to expect you to adhere to your role too.

Ie, you heal, you don't dps.
Ie you let me pull so the aggro was on me from the get-go.

Or how about you just align and adjust to the party? Haven't though of that? Also instead of discussing, could just go on and finish the dungeon to not waste your time you know.

I mean it's not my fault as a tank if the DPS unceremoniously reaches 0 HP before I could have noticed them. Perform unwise actions, receive unfavorable consequences. Simple fact of life.

Sure — but that “simple fact of life” cuts both ways. If you’re the tank and a DPS dies before you “could have noticed,” it’s not exactly a glowing example of group awareness either.

Sometimes people make an unwise pull. Sometimes the tank doesn’t catch it in time. That’s the nature of DF — imperfect people doing imperfect runs.

Treating every unexpected death like it’s some Darwin Award entry just makes you look more interested in assigning blame than finishing the dungeon.

I don't have to tell them anything and still think it. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. Pull mobs ahead of me, don't surprisedpikachu.jpeg you died before I took the aggro. If you are willing to spank it then you are willing to tank it.

came back to this thread after a week. still a skill issue btw. my final two cents tho:

the tank's job is to tank and dps. the healer's job is to heal and dps. the dps' job is to dps and use their defensive/heal cooldowns to support the party where necessary.

and it's everyone's job to finish the dungeon quickly and efficiently to the beat of their ability. slow pulling wastes resources. the dps and healer are an extension of the tank's health bar, a shield if you will. if nobody dies, you stand to gain a lot. YPYT is a reportable offense for a reason. I'd rather have a competent DRG with Blood Weapon and Arm's Length prepull and apply the slow + bide some time than have a tank who's being a wuss about pulling more than one pack. dungeons can be done with 2 dps and either one heal or tank. if the healer is fine with it, good. they don't need you and they can and will report + kick you for griefing.

/e: Also, we don't need third party tools to see you suck when you're dead last in enmity as a Viper or Black Mage. We also don't need third party tools to see people dropping dot uptime, not pressing major party buffs etc. And if I see someone just stand, not casting, for example a healer, then I will gladly call that out, too. Politely at first, but they should know they should be pulling their weight eventually.
