Tank DCed at the start of the instance and we 3-man'd it with a topaz carbuncle. We did 90% of the dungeon before a tank finally joined for the last fight.

Doesn't have to work that way. Doesn't even need to have 1 person marked at all. There can just be a huge general warning like the boss glowing or something, for people to stack, maybe in a certain spot. So the people who stack are fine, and the idiot who runs off just dies. If someone chooses to run off and die, that's their problem, everyone else can still stack together and live.
The way stacking mechanics work right now, I don't even want to stack properly because if there aren't enough people stacking with me, I'll die anyway, for doing the mechanic right.
Back on topic, a few weeks ago, Leveling roulette dropped me as BLM, into Cutter's Cry. The tank was a lvl 39 PLD, the healer was an unsynced AST, and a lvl 38 DRG.
Now, at lvl 39, this PLD didn't have Shield Oath, so that was understandable. Less understandable was their complete refusal to use Flash, which resulted in the DRG and me doing their job for them. Note that this DRG was also relatively underequipped, wearing a mix of 30-35 gear, IIRC. Meanwhile, I was synced to 40 and limited only by the ilvl sync as well. But whatever this DRG was doing, they were really good and ended up ripping aggro of the first boss off the PLD before I could. I wanted to tell them to use Elusive Jump, but... the DRG was not the problem here. Especially considering the PLD never once used Rage of Halone. Not that I realised this at the time.
On the way to the second boss, the PLD started complaining that keeping aggro off a BLM is impossible. So I guess I and every other tank who has ever successfully managed to keep aggro from a BLM in their party, should be celebrating that we've achieved the impossible.
Seriously, if you refuse to use Flash or RoH, I'm fairly certain that the jobs are not the problem here. I tried explaining this to the PLD, but of course they would have none of this. During the second boss (which is really hellish when your healer doesn't know what their cleanse spell is or when to use it), I watched the boss's debuffs and never once saw the RoH debuff. Once again, the DRG stepped up to the plate and tanked the hell out of it.
On the way to the third boss, I started questioning why this PLD was doing things the way they did. In response, they blew up at me, claiming that "your problem is you suck at BLM" and that "you obviously main tank, well I main DPS". Which was adorable. What does it say about you if you can't keep aggro off someone who supposedly sucks at DPS?
Ultimately, it was just a horrible run where nobody learnt anything important, so a prime example of why a lot of people just never bother anymore.
I decide to lvl my drg in a DF dungeon. Worst mistake ever.
In the first party I had an AST who refused to play cards because "I play how I want" and "they aren't needed". I will not even get more into details here as it was simply too ridiculous. I got kicked after a while when I said that I would play "my way" too then (which was auto-atk only and no more evading AoEs xD)
Second party had an AST complaining about low dps(yeah other dps was doing a lot less than me). But didn't touch cleric stance at all to do any dps. When i said that he could also help dpsing I got a "lal if I wanted to dps, I'd play a mnk"
Idk man. ASTs are starting to terrify me.
All ASTs I meet are special little snowflakes -_-
Random person: "Samurai will ***** so bad in Stormblood"
Me: "Why?"
Random Person: "Because they are not Tank Jobs. The Weebs ruined the Samurai! We could of had them in actual Samurai Armor and more historically accurate."
Me: "You do know this is a fantasy game right? Also this version of the Samurai is one version used in Japanese Fantasy games. Besides we get Auron Armor set for Samurai and he was the Samurai of FFX"
Random person: "F*** fantasy and F**** Auron. He was a just a emo guy that weebs thought was cool. Real Samurai fight their enemies head on. Not stab them in the back like a coward."
Me:" Your vision of samurai is the Romanticised version. It was common for people to romanticise the samurai just like Knights when it came to their way of life. In reality during war the Samurai were more about killing their enemies over one on one duels for honor in the middle of a battlefield. So Samurai stabbing their enemies in the back in a battlefield during war did happen."
Other Person: " Can we talk about something else because I don't think you are going anywhere with this guy."
Me: "Ok. Did you know historically real Ninjas actually used Cats to tell the time of day by looking into the Cat's eye."
Random Person: "You're **** with me right?"
Me: " This is real. It is called Cat's eye Sundial. The fully round eye means twilight during daybreak and sunset, near-oval shape at 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM, more near-oval at 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM, and needle like at 12:00 noon."
Other Person: "I looked it up and holy **** it is historical fact about real ninjas."
Random Person: "We learn something new everyday"
AFK person: "Hey I'm back. Sorry about that so what I miss?"
Me: "Here something else historical about real Ninjas. Female Ninjas, Kunoichi, chose to hide in plain sight and one of their commonly used disguise was a prostitute."
AFK person: "uhh what did I just walked into?"
Me: "Oh you're back."
Decided to do my Crystal Tower runs for the week.
In Syrcus Tower, we had one or two DPS who were constantly complaining that our overall DPS was too low. It was clear that we had quite a few people who had never done it before. I think there was one person who was trying to constructively give advice for the fights, but it was drowned out by the complainers. A lot of the group wasn't following mechanics. We didn't wipe, but it was aggravating.
The complainers eventually simmered down towards the end of the raid and we cleared.
Then I did World of Darkness. I don't know what it is about this place, but it always seems to bring out the worst in people.
We had 3-4 people in one alliance that decided to act like jerks the entire run. Constantly yelling at everyone else because of any mistake we made. They started saying things like "Look at all these adds. It's obvious a bunch of people are being carried".
"Look at how long it took for the flying mango to die". "Flying mango is the worst boss because no one does mechanics correctly." Saying how Cerberus will be fun because no one will follow mechanics.
Then the last boss. This is where it got really bad. The raid failed at a few mechanics and we ended up wiping once because of it. Queue an expletive filled rant about how we can't follow mechanics. We tried again. We were still failing at mechanics, and it was a close call, but we pulled through on the second try with most of the raid dead.
One of these guys made an expletive filled comment about bad players making this raid awful before leaving.
I was about ready to give up for the night after that, but I decided to do Labyrinth. I had over an hour wait in queue so I hoped it would be a good group.
I zoned in and chat was filled with everyone saying hello and exchanging pleasant comments. Finally, a group of nice people!
Cleared Labyrinth with no problems. Everyone followed mechanics. People were giving constructive advice. It was a great run :)
I feel so bad for all these new players who had to put up with the toxic people in the first two runs. It was awful.
I always end up tanking SOMETHING in Dun Scaith, as a BLM. Always, no exception, and annoyingly enough it's always after I pop something (be it Ley Lines or Enochian), and then have to stay in ARR rotation after rez, as if my DPS wasn't low enough because of weakness...
I need quelling on a shorter cooldown, please devs Q_Q
It's all rather annoying because I honestly do like DS, it's a nice place. Just, OTs, please, can you go ahead and tank things?...
Did the Vault this past weekend on DRK. It was relatively uneventful although the SMN did die at the second boss due to getting knocked around by mechanics; healer raised them, everything was fine.
When we got to the last boss, the SMN, who was right at level for the Vault, 57 and modestly geared, died again right before the adds phase.
Instead of raising them the healer went dps mode for the adds. Then still didn't raise. For the rest of the fight, the SMN was lying there dead.
We cleared without wiping and I asked the healer why they never raised the SMN. The response was "it's too hard on my mp and I have difficulty managing my mp in this fight as it is."
I just commed the poor SMN and left instead of arguing about it. I've had to raise dps for that fight and I've never had mp issues. They were a level 60 healer, so not exactly new.
to be honest, i've stopped stacking altogether during diabolos hollow. literally every time i've stacked for either the normal one or the hysteria one, i've died due to people not stacking with us. yeah i know it's my party/alliance that's being bad, but it's just made me ignore the stack marker unless i'm the one with it. other than diabolos hollow though, i haven'tmuch issue with the mechanic as a whole.
Not an mp issue, but it is very annoying to pre-cast an aoe heal to land as altar pyre hits, only to have one dps sitting at the edge, out of aoe heal range. There is no need to be that far away, being closer makes chain-breaking easier as well. I'll always put up my ast bubble just as the last add is dying for people to pick up the buff for the altar pyre that follows right after, but you still get people that refuse to go inside it.
Both pet peeves of mine. Is annoying to have to go out of my way to heal up people that make no effort to help themselves
Bis Ex 'farm party' - 6/8 new and undergeared when asking for il250+ (that 6/8 were nowhere close)
Another Bis Ex farm party. DRK didn't know what tank swapping was and didn't had provoke. Half the raid swore up and down and sideways it's my fault for trying to take the blue add with a green debuff.
An FC mate asked for help to get the Ishgard barding. I asked all my shells and contacts and they told me if we could get the 3 fates down to trigger the darkscale encounter sure, we did so and our group went from 2 to 17. That FC member was and new player, they were so happy. It was their goal to get it. That was and fun experience
I don't quite know if we count POTD among DF stories but Heck it, I'm telling it anyways.
So I was running POTD with a group, we were on floors 61-70. We had the Pom of Fortune active so monsters drop chests more. We walked into a room and sprung a luring trap, killed everything in the room! Two gold chests dropped (Yay! \o/), open one, got a pom of intuition and the other was a mimic! :D So we beat the tar out of the mimic and oh boy oh boy he dropped a silver chest, we were all still hurtin' from the luring trap and mimic wombo combo....silver chest was a bomb. o3o We wiped, the salt flowed for the remainder of the night.
Lol I always laugh when i see two people run for the same chest and blow up. I learned early on to keep a safe distance
With all the complaints about people not knowing how to play their job, it makes me wonder if we'll see something more added to the game as far as teaching and tutorial go. Had a Singularity Reactor run where 2 of the DPS were only using roughly half of their abilities. I may agree with raising the skill floor some, but raising the skill floor by itself won't be enough if players don't use the tools at their disposal.
Agreed, as it stands if I see a chest I run away from it when near others.
So just had a Baelsar's Wall where I finally ran into someone who just upright refused to do anything. DRK, NIN, BLM, and AST(me). Buff up and the DRK runs up to the arch in the wall and stops, just stops and starts spinning while raising his hands up (praise the sun?) and just keeps spinning. After a moment of doing nothing the NIN runs up and aggros, being 1 NIN vs that cluster I had to let him die. The tank then snaps "(Nin) you wanna let me tank!?" To which we all basically said you arn't doing anything. He then runs to us and does the same thing. So we sit down and basically said fine, we wait 5 mins and kick him. DRK then proceeds to laugh at us and aggros the mobs, dies, then complains we did nothing to help. We inform him we are busy filling out reports. He then aggros the dog and brings it over to us, we simply stand up and walk away.
Once he finally dies, we kick and we get a fellow raid member of mine to tank the rest with no issue. Was gonna be an FC member but game decided to kick both of them into fresh ones. However I just find it funny that tanks want to act like we need to bow down to them, they are easily replaced by anyone who has decent FC or friend on.
Sephirot ex clear party few months ago.
Healer1 : healer/tank - right, dps - left.Earthshakers too
Dps1 : wait you mean his left when he face to us or turn his back on us ?
Tank1 : ...
Me : don't think,just left ...
And when the fight start,y'all can guess which side the dps1 stacks with.
RIGHT !!!
We were new to Brayflox as WHM/WAR, and were undergeared. A level synced BLM complained that we sucked because the WAR died - proceeded to say how good he was, point out that we should kill ourselves, or at the very least.. quit the game. Then he left.
Needless to say, we had another DPS join and the remainder of the dungeon was a breeze. No wipes, no deaths, no complaints.
Queue into Levelling Roulette as a SCH.
Get into Toto-Rak. Cast protect, summon fairy, pop cleric.
Tank seems a bit new-ish at tanking, as I pull hate on a couple of mobs during the run, but not a big deal.
SMN seems to know what they are doing. Rogue is unsynced.
Get to the first blue device thingy (that pops the 1st raffalsea mini boss).
Rogue runs off down the other corridor about to pull some mobs.. Ends up turning around and joining us, didn't think anything of it.
Few mins later, we are a bit further in.. I thnk to myself "hmm where is that Rogue? they keep disappearing".. Next thing I know they are half way back toward the start of the dungeon dying to a bunch of mobs.. You know how the path "splits" and there are two routes? well we took the lower route, then for some reason the Rogue doubles back along the other route after we clear the Chigoes...
Anyway I heal the Rogue up, not a big deal, only 2-3 extra mobs and the group that the Tank, myself and the other DPS were killing were nearly dead anyway..
Couple of mins later I look around... "Where did that rogue go again?" I think to myself..
Sure enough I see their HP dropping in the party list.. Here they come screaming back with a good 6 or so more mobs, while the Tank and SMN are killing the 3 mobs that we originally pulled.
I send my pet away so Eos doesn't heal the Rogue which would put me on the hate list for this army of mobs that the Rogue randomly decided to run off and pull, let the Rogue just die, the mobs leash and I raise the Rogue.
What I expected to hear from them if they said anything was "Sorry about that, didn't mean to pull this army of mobs."
Instead....
First thing that they say - "Turn off cleric!"
I mean.... I have managed to do the entire dungeon with cleric on, while fairy healing on Obey and DPSing full time. Why would I toggle it off to heal them, when they ran off to pull a bunch of random - unecessary mobs from some random corridor that we weren't going to go down - which would only cause me to get hate on those mobs, and potentially die myself or end up tanking 6 mobs by spam healing myself since the Tank seemed new-ish...
Ok so I respond with something like "Nah, don't pull random mobs from god knows where. You're not a tank."
Anyway.. Get to the final boss, tank pulls - what does the Rogue do?
Of course they decide to run around the outside and run into all the poison sap thingies that blow up and poison you. (Keep in mind I am on SCH so I don't have any form of Esuna at this level).
The tank then seems to want to follow their lead and goes off to kill the poison egg thingies..
Meanwhile I am sitting there face tanking the boss, completely dumbfounded by what was going on... No one died because I mean.. Eos..
All I said was "Yeah, no. Don't do that". (Was trying to keep everyone alive so couldn't elaborate).
Rogue said "Let the DPS focus on eggs" - "Tank do your job"..
I mean.. Do people not realise that you literally don't have to touch those eggs on the outside of the arena at all?
None of these people had sprouts so they had obviously done the dungeon during the story at some point.
I figured I would finally stop being lazy and gear up my ninja, since I still have a lot of leveling gear on (including a lv50 helmet because I got no upgrades whatsoever getting it to 60). My drg/mnk also have no accessories. Queue up for creator 10 and 12 as AST for light.
Boy. The last time I did normal mode creator was over a month ago, but people are still bad at this game. I've been out-dpsing at least one actual dps every single run. It's depressing. More annoyingly in 20 runs collectively, I've only obtained 2 pedals, because even when I get 85+ rolls, I still get beat.
I just finished a run of a12 where we had four DRGs. Four. I joked that they would all die at the beginning of the run. Well....
Dragoon #1 died once, to a Might (to be fair one of the tanks wasn't doing their job).
Dragoon #2 died three times, once pre-ultimate.
Dragoon #3 died twice, once pre-ultimate.
Dragoon #4 did not die before the ultimate. Made up for that fact by dying 4 times in the second half of the fight.
I rolled a 97 on a crank at the end of that run. Got outrolled by a 99.
I think I need a drink.
I think I'm officially traumatised by Midas. I've had lots and lots of groups in the past wiping simply because they failed to follow mechanics.
Yesterday was the last straw though. Got a8, nbd because a8 is pretty easy. All the group is mostly new people. Still nbd. Hopefully they watched a guide or someone here can explain mechanics for them? I wasn't up to it since I'm bad at explaining things and needed to get a feel for the fight again. No one explains anything. They go in. Tanks suck. A healer dies. A DRG dies and starts getting angry at the healers, who in turn get angry at the tanks.
First round. We wipe on Onslaught. No one gets out the way of the Mega Beam. Adds spawn. Only me and another DRG take them. You'd think people would know already that when adds are up they should get killed? Nope. Adds blow up. Orb phase happens. It sort of goes well. Then the adds spawn again~ and they blow up, wiping us all.
But they're new and no one bothered to explain anything to them (although they could easily have watched a 5min video...), so I try not to be too annoyed. I type in chat. "Please kill adds."
Next round. It's still bad but the adds go down. Someone doesn't eat my orb so I have to take it to the face and die~ yay for teamwork! Onslaught goes down and we get to the robot phase. Tanks keep the adds close together and it's very messy and we wipe. Someone in the chat was repeatedly telling them to separate the mobs and they happily ignored it.
Another go, then! At this point one of the DRGs starts acting like a brat and refuses to help, saying "no one knows what they're doing" and starts attacking me for being a bad DRG. I know I'm no expert at this job, plus I was still relearning it as I haven't touched DRG in awhile. I think I was doing a good job though. Said DRG didn't even bother telling me what I was doing wrong nor offered any advice.
DRG then says "kick me", I just reply "nah keep him here" because I'm spiteful. This time, we fortunately make it to Brute Justice, but from there on it's all down hill. No one stacks. Everyone's happily eating beams and AOEs. I die because no one stacked on me (I happily ran to them, btw. They all ran away from me). DRG continues whining. The group is nearly dead, but Brute Justice is actually low on health and we're near healer LB3. Perhaps an error on my part, but I thought if the healer used LB3, we could actually do it. So I call to them to use it.
Healer LB3 used.
Then we all die again (I accept this is my fault though. I genuinely thought we could make it). DRG continues whining. Someone calls him out and after a failed vote abandon, the DRG has an attitude change and starts actually explaining mechanics. I mean, he saw at the start these people were new so why didn't he bother back then? Good lord.
This time, we actually succeed. I have no idea why the DRG couldn't explain at the start or why these people couldn't look up a quick video guide before jumping in. But hey I guess that makes me an elitist for thinking people should look up guides before going into content.
I (WHM) was with a pub team at the area before the first boss in "The Sunken Temple of Qarn" (roulette). At this point my team became annoyed I was not DPSing (when they were constantly standing in AOEs). During the boss fight this worsened when they couldn't kill adds quickly and became more annoyed at me. Which is of course is my fault when DPS-ing is my main duty as a healer (I will say there may have had a point if they would have gotten out of any AOE they were in, instead of just standing there taking damage). At this point two party members died because they would not move from the AOEs. I revived them (swift cast+raise then raise) then one of them (a ninja that I just revived) died in an AOE again. I will admit fault that I cast a level one limit break (I forgot it did not raise like the level three), to which they complained. I revived the guy again, we beat the boss (on the first go mind you) and then they kicked me.
So I've been leveling an alt recently. Decided to start running PotD to level up Archer and THM to be skill ready and able to change to SMN once I hit 30 on Arcanist. Floors 1-40 go with no issues, 31-40 we had a few deaths but nothing major. 41-50 though is where issues crop up.
Everything seemed fine. Everyone was doing well, if someone died it was because they did a dumb thing. And then suddenly, our Arcanist starts afking nearly every floor, starting around 43 or so. Around 46 or so, they afked during battle. Then they'd afk in the port while the rest of us were fighting and dying.
I usually don't leave duties, but by floor 48, I was just done with the run. I usually give people the benefit that something popped up while they were in the middle of things as I've been in that position. But if you need to afk so much, don't run stuff. Or at least be courteous to say you need to afk.
Not really a DF story, but... I just got kicked from a Nidhogg farm party because I used my anti-berserk pacification macro on the warrior (who literally spammed the chat with his own berserk macro...) and he apparently got offended. He called me a "KANT" then kicked me. The paladin who defended me left the party or was kicked too, I don't really know, but the guy who kicked me has spent the last 30 or so minutes trying to find replacements in PF. Karma's a bitch. :D
Seeing a guy in palace of the dead run over 2 landmines in a row and killed 3 of us.
Got A12N yesterday morning for Tails and we had a couple of Paladins who seemed unsure of themselves. I examined them and one was in a mix of 230-260 with some green pieces.
The other was in full Garo gear.
The Garo guy pulls and gets one shotted to Punishing Heat. The other PLD picks Alex up. We make it to adds phase and one of the dps goes down hard because adds weren't picked up. We struggle through past the phase change and it's one death after another; tanks, healers, dps, not even healer LB3 can let us muddle through.
As we wipe, the Garo guy is complaining about bads and ranting about the party so I say "you don't get to call the party bad; you're wearing pvp gear." One of the other players says "he's wearing pvp gear?" Healer said "yup."
I've never seen a vote dismiss go through so fast.
We got a fully geared tank in progress, he took MT, and we cleared just fine.
I was just running expert queue as WHM, and landed good ol' baelsar's wall. Everything was going about as well as you could expect, even down to the dps always failing extreme caution when also targeted by the aoe.
However, when we got to the griffen, I got targeted by the fetters mechanic while the boss was at 21%. The ninja decided that this was the time to finish developing LB2 then LB2 the boss. Boss survives at 5%, I die, we wipe.
This is the conversation that follows.
http://i.imgur.com/JQ60Oct.png
... at that point all I could do was laugh.
I feel your pain on this, I was trying to help my friend's Tank through this dungeon earlier today (given I'm not the greatest WHM on the planet) and both dps were constantly failing the extreme caution and we wiped on this fight twice - even with a thorough explanation.....I'm glad I'm not the only one.
I think that some dps panic when the AOE is on them and they don't realise if they wait for the timer to run out they still have time to run and avoid the AOE.
Sometimes you just get unlucky with who you get in the party.
There's a good chance it was me. I've been playing THM in 24-man raids since 2.1, and we're in the same data center (I've never seen another THM).
It's fun to join 24-man on a class and (try to) get top DPS! Back in 2.x I'd go with a group of people on classes and we'd all go crazy. It's a shock to see CNJ outdamaging most of the DPS in the raid, and GLA finishing #1 overall.
I was leveling my SMN in The Aery earlier
a Tank with Mentor sign quit as soon as he see someone with bonus
we wait for about 5min and another tank join
everything go smoothly until first boss, the other DPS with a re-join icon, die a few time to "Prey"
but we manage to DPS the boss down
2nd boss is easier
the nightmare begin at Nidhogg
by the time we finish, Nidhogg wipe us 5 times
1st wipe, the other DPS is at the edge of map, healer couldnt heal her, with 1 DPS down, we couldnt kill all adds in time to get the barrier up
2nd wipe, we get all adds and barrier is up, but tank and that DPS forget to get inside barrier
3rd wipe, I got Sable Price and only Healer try to free me, of cause I die, with res we enter the adds phase while I have zero MP, we couldnt kill all adds
4th wipe, this time Healer got Sable Price, I have to spam whatever I have to free her, still we manage, and we even get through barrier phase, but then i got Sable Price again, and when healer try to res me, other DPS fail to dodge AOE and die, then Nidhogg just burn down Tank and healer
5th wipe, this time we told the other DPS what to do when Sable Price is casted, yet healer is still the only one try to free me from Sable Price, and luckily we burn Nidhogg HP down, the other DPS can lb Nidhogg and end my suffering
Correct me if I'm wrong, please.
I did expert roulette today and got Baelsar's Wall, with mnk and blm as dps. The tank pulled from the start to the first wall, which I normally heal without any problems. However the dps was so bad the tank and I ran out of cool downs and I couldn't pump out heals fast enough. Turned out the monk refused to use aoe because "monk aoe drains tp really badly."
That's basically unacceptable, right? I watched his tp and it never dipped below 80% on trash. What was he saving it for?
Ah, good ole duty finder. Where all DPS are dead before the first Gugnirs come down.
I applaud you, but there is a flip side to this, I got into wall on expert ended up with a war, ast, lancer, and myself on nin. I look at his gear and he has just enough crafted gear to make i lvl and a joke of a wpn.
Tank says whatever and we start. Pulls the 1st pack which goes down a little slow but whatever. Pulls the rest and this time it takes forever. Healer is busy keeping tank up and the lancer that stood in everything, just me on aoe. No heavy thrust/doom spike just 123. then he proceeds to cast protect on everyone v.v
We ask him to use ht and do his rotations properly and he starts cussing at us for almost dying. we get to the 1st boss and the tank walks to me and gives me a thumbs up emote, I cheer him on and he drops stance and facepulls. Lancer goes in and i hit him with shadewalker, smokescreen on the healer, and go straight into my opener. He gets owned and we go on without him. Did it again at the next boss before he quit and we finished just fine
