I'm sorry but you do realize that this game is almost a month old.. Where as WoW is almost 9 years old.. It's IMPOSSIBLE to launch a game with comparable end-game content.

I've subbed for 6 month, but I think SE are in for a rude awakening when 50% of the player base drop when subs start for new players.

They definitely need to sort out their invisible cooldown nonsense and their server latency/position polling.

I don't see this game being much more successful than 1.0 in 3-4 months times.

So much this. If I remember correctly vanilla wow had even less endgame content than this.

And really we COULD have had more if not for SE's insistance on keeping the size of the game (gigabytes wise) to a minimum for the PSN.

Bought the game a week ago, and ill sub probably forever as ill play this on my ps4 and PC until Archeage or some other intriguing MMO i want to get involved in comes out.

I will say I didn't really follow this game at all, but im enjoying it. Just a lot of Qq on the forums.

People really need to get over it and stop blaming the console market, really..really get over it already. SE wanted to reprovision the game into what pretty much every other MMO is atm on the market - They had 1.0 to work with and had the ability to expand the end-game from there - However, they needed to create a quest based progression which is where most of the development obviously went to (the instancing, quests and FATEs), otherwise notice how some of the lower end dungeons are just old areas turned into an instance? The format on the PS3 is different than that of the PC, so the size would have been appropriate for it regardless because they can handle that client differently.

Did you know? Tera was over 20gb and had almost no content?

I just hope all these players who say they are going to quit actually do quit, I am so tired of reading these "I quit because game lacks X and doesn't have Y" posts, get out and let me stay and watch the game develop.

Not to defend the lack of endgame content, but people trying to say that crafted gear is NOT better than endgame dungeon loot needs to get their facts straight.

Endgame crafted gear, quad/penta melded beats Darklight by a fair margin. And they're on the AH for high price, Hippogryph HQ goes for 300k a piece, and Darksteel for a comparible fraction. The only loot in Final Fantasy 14 that beats crafted gear is Allagan and AF+1, both requiring insane dedication to get.

oh please forgive us humble console players and our limited resource (both finanical and processing power) oh exalted pc player...

Seems like most of the content is hosted server side so if we wanna argue the PS3s HDD and its storage is to blame = fail
I mean MGS4 takes 10GB to install, Sleeping Dogs and its DLC almost 10GB as well, FFXIV 7.5GBish, SE could funnel another 15/20GB down the line to our HDDs and we PS3 players can take it - i speak of anyone above the 60GB model, I have 320GB.

It seems FFXIV is an attempt to shake up a stagnated console market and breath some life into it for this Generation (PS3) and show whats capable of been done on the next (PS4, Xboxone), as I understand theres not many console MMOs yet alone cross platform ones so I'm willing to forgive its tempory short comings - saying that im lv23 so I havent got to "end-game" yet and wont comment on that.

On topic:
I'll be subbing until Feb' at least and then take a break for a month or so to play Lighting Returns and the FFX HD Remaster if its out in UK by then, long term I suspect I'll keep playing the game as I trust it will get better.

That's why your'e neither a business analyst, nor a game dev ¡, nor anyone with any level of reliable qualifications to make this type of assessment.

If SE produce half the endgame that FFXI had (minus the stupid HNM camping nonsense) we will be fine, and you know the story based stuff is going to beat most of whats available today.

For those of us who are DPS, do you think it's too much to hope that queue times will decrease considerably?

Only if they give more incentive for players to play tanks and then healers. They can't force people to play a class they don't like.

At TGS Yoshi-P was quoted that they are going to add into the duty finder increased exp/gil rewards or something similar to classes that are in high demand but low population.

Sounds like you miss it, so why not take your fishing rod with you and go back? If you actually expect a new MMO to come out with immediately comparable contents to the industry leader that has received almost a decade's worth of development, updates, and expansions, you're gonna be waiting a while.

Personally, I'm super excited to see what happens when subs kick in. Can't wait to get rid of all the unattached, unconvinced, and unhappy souls from this game.

Unless SE can convince people to be Tanks I don't think they can reduce the queue time. Though maybe they can do a dungeon where a standard party is not required.

thats... stupid..
they already have the insane advantage of getting a dungeon ready as they click duty finder, plus tanks and healers are the ones that do the most rage quits... cause they know they can find another dungeon whenever they want.

As for the OP subject:
i got a feeling the EU servers will lose a lot of people when the subs kick in.

I just have to constantly add every person I see in the shout channel or any direct tell I get, though I agree it's cumbersome to add them to the blacklist and report these people. A right click option is sorely needed.

I find that odd, first time I've seen that type of programming with a dungeon finder tool, hopefully they'll fix this, as a lot of players who are suffering that issue see this a SE's way of artificially slowing down player progression, can't say I blame them for feeling that way.

The targeting in this game is odd, clicking on a moving target is such a pain in the rear, I hope they fix that.

The game certainly has issues, we are in the first month of release for 2.0, hopefully they have a huge team coding back there to address them. I believe these next 2 months are going to be pivotal for FFXIV, players are going to see just how long it's going to take for them to resolve some of the games major issues.

About the level distribution, what you fail to realize is that everyone and their mother is at lvl 15, its one of the prime requisites for your JOB thats what the number shows, so no the majority of the community is not at 15 or below, everyone HAS several lvl 15 or below classes.

PvP will be not good in this game, you don`t need to be excited.

The playerbase will drop by 200% and the old 1.0 fanboys and some new ones that have nothing else to do but waiting desperately for new content that will come in 2 months will stay.

You don`t need to compare WOW Vanilla endgame with FFXIV, this was 6/7 years ago? If you develop a MMO nowadays, there need to be endgame content at release that keep players addicted for weeks or months, not only one damn 8 man raid (with a pathetic 1 week lock) and 1 level 50 dungeon. What about repeatable dungeons in heroic mode? Variety, you know what VARIETY is, SE?

SE can`t expect everyone to be casual who needs 5 weeks to 50 and another 10 weeks to see endgame content. There are always people that are rushing and seeking variety in endgame, variety which does not exist here currently.

They should feel sorry for all the current-endgame-players which have nothing to do because SE failed.

I'd like to see more content for pure crafters.

I dunno...I'd start with the fact that you get the most tomestones for doing an 8 man that isnt even the last dungeon int he story (not to mention the most boring) Tying endgame progression in to fresh 50 story content is just retarded and is what helped facilitate the friction between people watching cut scenes and people trying to speed run. You literally run boring dungeon over and over for endgame tomes...does that not bother you at all? but that being said it's still two entirely different games. I am not concerned in the slightest, especially since I've played games before that DID shut down relatively closely after their release and neither TOR nor ARR are even remotely comparable playerwise (the games in question would be Hellgate:London and The Chronicles of Spellborn, by the way. both games I loved. both great games. both failed miserably even though even after release they were called 'very promissing')

It depends on the console crowd/ps4 and the Japanese when ever the game will be successful or not.
By the time the PS4 will come out I think ARR will be a lot better than it is now , especially for the console market.

I don't think ARR will be all that interesting for the PC crowd for the time being.
It's a very generic MMO with little content and horrible server lag.

Unless you're a fan or this is your first MMO chances are that you've played mmo's that where better designed than this, all that makes this game some what special is the IP.


I suspect that the majority of players will be either fans or console players and they will keep this game going for a while.

WoW (Yes, I know I'm kind of asking for trolls by bringing this up) did something similar to this back in Cata. Queue times for dps were 40-60m or more so Blizz added a feature where you would get a bag of random stuff, from flasks and gems to rare mounts, if you queued up as a tank/healer during times when they were in demand (indicated on the group finder).

A lot of people complained about this when they first announced it for the same reason you are. However, it worked. Dps queue times dropped by half or more, depending.

So, I feel like a few extra gil/exp for the in-demand roles are worth getting into a dungeon far more quickly, no?

You certainly make a lot of bad assumptions.

Closer to reality, anyone with half a brain in the MMO industry is well aware of the population drop after the free month. As such, the "extreme measures" were almost certainly temporary knowing full well that people will be leaving. And server transfers are coming.

I decided to sub for the first month, but I'm pretty bored with the game already. Every day it's just spamming CM and whatever over and over again for a gear grind.

Dont expect PvP content anytime soon nor something deeply thought. It most likely be something random to kick other people behind, just like Brenner or the fight between nations in Final Fantasy XI. Square specialize in deep story PvE content not on PvP.

Wait, what? If you haven't beaten Titan by the time subs come, you won't resub? Where's the logic in that? Though I have to say, we're better off without anyone that whines to make the game easier, so good riddance I suppose.

I already put down for three months, so I might as well keep going.

But this game really does have some major issues that could very well be the beginning of the end. Don't get me wrong: the story and world are fantastic, and the emphasis on plot is a huge plus.

Unfortunately, that's also a major issue: there's is a linear plot and a final boss. Dragon Quest X hemorrhages subscribers every day because of this, and people just clear the game and say "welp, I'm done". And like Dragon Quest X, FFXIV has very little in the ways of endgame right now with very little on the horizon that we know of. Sure, we'll get Crystal Tower and one or two new primal fights, but that's all we're going to be grinding until the next expansion... a year from now.

The endgame issues all could have been avoided, and there's one big example I can think of. All of those outdoor Level 45+ beastmen fortresses could've been amazing outdoor endgame content. They could have required groups and had great loot and items to find. Instead, they're just vapid husks that you waltz your way through once to attune yourself for a Hardmode primal or snipe something for your hunting log. Imagine what kinds of organization we could've had to tackle them. Instead, you just storm through them because nothing will aggro or even give you the time of day. They got these places right in 1.0. Now they're just a joke...

FFXIV is a game that works on drawing people in, but does nothing to retain them.

Like the majority of other big mmo's that have come out the past few years I think the numbers will drop drastically once everybody has gone through their 30-37 days (or whatever it ended up being). There will be population issues on a large number of servers and some zones will seem deserted for a time. All people have to do is look at something like swtor that had huge sales at launch and good numbers, but after the first few months it was bleeding a lot of players as well. Hopefully with FFXIV they've budgeted well enough that the game can still receive enough updates even with a smaller player base.

Personally I'm not resubbing after my initial time is up but I will come back at some point. The game is a lot of fun but can also be disappointing because there is a ton of potential here to make it the best mmo around.

No dev team is going to be able to have on release months worth of endgame content it simply isnt possible and no game has managed it so far, your dreaming to even expect it. Theres also two lvl50 dungeons and raid locking is pretty standard with games that take an instanced raiding approach.

Theres also two new dungeons, hard mode dungeon, moogle king fight, extreme primal fights and crystal tower coming in 2.1

End game is not the be all and end all. Although I will agree for me personally its a large deciding factor.

The casuals you are referring to make up the VAST majority of the playerbase, its this way in every game.

Chances are half of the servers will become ghost towns. By the way se is ripping us off. (300cap a week just so we subscribe longer for af2 gear) pretty obvious it is a cheap trick to suck our money. If they want our money they should atleast provide us with a decent service not some obvious cheap trick.

The character creations on other servers is still close and the instance have very long queue times even with party. These 2 things is a big no for a pay 2 play game. When people are playing the game you should never restrict them for something they want to do in game.

Sadly, se doesnt listen to their customer and keeps on ignoring these facts.

noticed how everyone complaining is lvl 50? wonder why this is the case ;)

I just am having a hard time with people criticizing me for stuff. Tonight i did Hard mode ifrit. I was told to only stun eruption and thats it. So i do just that but once or twice i get resisted and they go crazy on me! I cannot control if i get resisted or not. I mean do these people just love to insult you or is it just the way the community on this game really is? Im almost to a point where its not even fun to play anymore because of that. :(
