Since we all know people will never need to run this for the story mode every again....right?
Honestly people, the dungeon is piss-easy. No need to gearcheck, now skill on the other hand is a different story, but still.

No, we cant. And the min/max'ers will continue to make sure that we don't enjoy things and be dead serious that we run Castrum in 24 minutes instead of 27 minutes.
Also skippable mobs/content NEEDS to be removed, because people will continue to bicker and complain with eachother when someone accidentally aggros some mobs that could have been avoided, making the dungeon last 45 seconds longer because they have to actually fight something.
This community is Toxic. Can't wait for world transfers so I can get off Excalibur and play with friends in Hyperion. The only enjoyable way to play this game is with your friends. There are far more crappy people on here, forum/in-game than good people. Sad really.
My people just got their relics last night and a speed run with relics is worlds above a speed run with other gear. You're complaining about people trying to form their own group, which is what all the whiners wanted in the first place... There is no end in sight.
no problem at all about people who make their own party's or any requirements they have for those parties. its the people who use DF and skip out when someone is actually game intended geared for that dungeon but not toting all legendary that are the problem.
if you want to be anal about gear have at it among you're own group don't go screwing the DF pt's by skipping out because you want only legendary equipped groups.
Why do developers even design examination options anymore? If you want to know what someone possesses, then simply ask them. Just like real life, they'll either tell you or they won't. It's called social interaction ...I thought MMORPGs were supposed to be all about it....
This subject also touches on another transcending issue, which is the duty finder. Let's face it, half of these problems we hear about daily would not exist if the duty finder did not exist. It certainly has it's cons and at this point it seems like there's more cons than pros.
How about developers not make a game where it's all casual until the end and BAM complete night and day change where you have to have minimum stats and gear value requirements in order to survive?
It doesn't reward or promote skill, it just causes people to suffer through failure (whether it's you failing or other's failing you), until they get a piece and then another and another etc., It's a horrible manifestation of an archaic carrot and stick attitude which only frustrates and clearly points out the lack of creativity and content density of the designers.
At least if they want to put some type of gear restriction in place, don't do it on such strict numbers rather do it on gear type. A simple system would be :
Special dungeon requires you to own six pieces of equipment with a medallion attached. This equipment has statistics similar in nature and quantity/value to the everyday gear you use. It's obtained by completing lesser dungeons in normal gear. Once you have acquired the total amount of pieces necessary, you can enter the special dungeon. The normal dungeons will not be particularly difficult - or outside the scope of dungeons as they are now allowing the acquisition of the six pieces to be done, fairly successfully and frequently. However the final dungeon, will be difficult - not because of statistical requirements but rather technical difficulty - as it should be.
What I've described is more or less gated content - but achievable gated content. The way things are now are not officially gated content, but it's still 'gated' by the barriers of needing a certain statistical value on your equipment. I do not feel this is any different, and as a system is worse than normal gated content.
I don't believe in player made gear checks but I do believe in developer created ones so I don't have to step into AK or other lvl 50 content with players who think they will get a free ride in their sub lvl 40 gear. CM/WP does not count since they are easy.
I went through effort to run lower instances and or buy some market place items to be prepared then why can't others? This is not WoW where others can carry you, you have to pull your own weight sometimes; encounters like demon wall is a perfect example. Wiping on that 10x in a row with 2x DPS using lvl 39 weapons the other night until tank bailed was not what I call 'fun'. This happens often to me in the DF. :(
Please have some consideration for others imo.
Now normal story mode content and such, then gear checking for those is stupid which I agree.
i feel like this keeps getting ignored.
it's not like randoms are queueing up in DF, joining the dungeon, inspecting people and leaving
they're forming a premade to their own standards - isn't this what people keep saying? make your own group with people of a similar mindset?
yep, i gear check when putting together speed run groups.
want to know why? because you cant call it a speed run if it isn't fast. it won't be fast if people are wearing trash gear. pretty simple right?
get better gear if you want to speed run, instead of coming to the forums to complain. i'm not going to carry you, sorry.
except people are doing exactly that entering DF runs doing a quick gear check and leaving the instances. yes some times its warranted with some players seriously under-equipped but that's only the minority of the time and a far too used excuse to justify it when its not the case.
Their group, their rules. They want to be fast and they and they want people with the best gears, nothing wrong with that. Nothing holds you back from doing a run with normal, average-tier gears.
If they organise it, fair enough. IF they speed run in DF and expect everyone to abide by their rules, then not fair enough.
And everybody already had DL and stuff when they started to speedrun. Right. Also, there're people who ARE playing the dungeon for the first time. It seems that here the term "hardcore" stands for "elitists douchebags" who "doesn't want to help others". I met a lot of people left behind by selfish FC or player groups, and I help them to raid because they lack gear. To those "hardcore-rushy" people, I suggest them to play LoL/DotA or some singleplayer games. Seriously, I'm starting to hate this community...
Yeaaahhh... but DF doesn't cherry pick if you want a group of non-speed runners, versus speed runners. Even then, if people want to speed run content... isn't it -more- efficient to actually form that speed run group locally, saying it's a speed run group, so as to attract other geared up players looking for fast runs? Rather than end up getting in parties of DF'd, random, players of who-knows what skill level and gearset, and then either forcing them to drop, or dropping yourself (and then waiting out the 15 minute timer, and then a whole new queue...)
Of course, with how the thread is presented, I'm under the presumption this was a DF'd up group and not a locally formed group where the players had intent to speedrun and advertised as such.
Devs posted up in this forum that they plan to address the ability to skip mobs in dungeons as it was not intended to function that way. I need to find the link to the post.
Edit: Found it and posted it as a new post in this thread. Link to my post:

I am fed up with this aswell. I have decided on a new policy for dealing with elitists in which you are welcome to share. If they call you on gear stop, go silent and laugh. After this you are welcome to boycott the match and sit there. They then have 2 choices do it without you or gtfo and suffer a penalty. Yes it is a controversial plan i am sure the elitists will scream holy blue murder but they brought it on themselves for being selfish @$$####$. : D
nope, but a lot of people do now, and those are the people i will be bringing on my runs. sorry if that makes you feel excluded but that's not really my problem. put the time in to get better gear if you want to speed run but aren't getting any invites.
and why does this even matter to you, when the speed runs are filled in town by willing participants? nobody in their right mind will join a DF run and expect it to go fast.
You mean aside from the understandable concern that such an idiotic mentality would catch on, not unlike the people who convinced themselves dragoons were gimps in FFXI simply because they were not getting full TP returns on pentathrust?
People are gear-checking a story mode dungeon because it happens to reward allaghan tomestones. The devs expected people to be reasonable and unfortunately we've been found wanting. It's like the people that leave AK runs if you have a DPS or healer that's never done it before.
People are gearchecking because they are building a group to run that story mode dungeon as fast as they can. Its their private group.
Last I checked, you still had duty finder available, thus effecting you in no way whatsoever. Did you cry when someone wouldn't let you join their private club growing up as well?
And dragoons were shit in ffxi for the longest time. 2 hour cooldown on summon wyrm and shit tp gain vs a sam? Nice try trying to use that though.
Heh if you wanna talk design, DRG's problem was that wyverns could be one-shot by getting sneezed on by mobs and while palty, it was damage that went to the DRG's overall DPS (not mentioning Call Wyvern was their 2-hour ability...). The main catalyst of the "DRG is gimp" thing was the pentathrust nerf.
Doesn't make it any less ludicrous. You're starting to get people creeping on to level cap and they're going to want to do CM so they can continue with the main storyline, and other players on their servers (also, don't think the issues are server-exclusive; dury finder is also seeing drama over it) who should at least show some patience aren't helping them. The whole thing defeats the purpose of the "community" we're supposed to be building if we can't even work with the up and coming players to get them through the main story.Quote:
People are gearchecking because they are building a group to run that story mode dungeon as fast as they can.
The funny part is that putting allaghan tomes in CM was most likely a way to get players who are gearing up for CoB/CT to join groups that may have people who are still working their way towards the end of the main story..
This nonsense makes me sorely tempted to move to the Japanese servers.
I promise you, that 90% of the time your party isn't "speed running" because someone is afk or not paying attention. Not because someone has a gearscore of 60 instead of 70.
You could practically run Castrum naked, damn dungeon is easy as all hell.. It's so easy it's mind-numbing, in fact. Nothing in it has particularly high defense, and the beefiest trash is all fodder to the damned cannons anyway.. Honestly if people are going to gearcheck me in Castrum, I'll gladly leave.. I don't want to play with anyone THAT uptight anyway.. There are places where it makes sense to gear check, this is not one of them.

Also, as you're basically lying, anyone that has ever frequented here will tell you of the horror stories of the japanese players that sparked a number of entertaining threads.

I can tell you that I've been kicked from xp groups, and threatened with reports a number of times by Japanese players simply for beating them to NM's and such.
Oh look, heres an example. Only took 2 minutes

Dunno why you are stuck on this. It happened, yeah, but there were also lots of cases where it didn't happen. I had plenty of great JP parties in XI, and then I had a ton of times where they slammed a door in my face when all I needed was a little help with something. People are different, some of them are jerks, go figure?
I'm just quoting this as it illustrates the mentality of some people. This is a game, not a job. As such, we're here to have fun, not to make money (or obtain gear). Gear is a mean to an end, not the end itself. We get better gear while we have fun beating some content so that we can run (often artificially) "harder" content to have, again, fun beating it. Of course, getting some new shinnies can be exciting (just for the visual part of it, as stats are something artificial, specially here with level sync), but it's just a minor part.
Back to the main topic, I'm always amazed by the logic of some of these gearcheck people, even if they're free to do whatever they want, of course. Really, when someone starts asking that the minimum gear requirement is the same gear that you would get after running/farming said dungeon or even superior, ask yourselves this: why would a good player with said gear run a dungeon that will give him nothing of value instead of, I don't know, try Coil? And no, gear for other classes doesn't count, as he would be able to get it from Coil, anyway, while doing something that requires more skill than just being a mindless zombie.
For me the fun is completing the dungeon completely, the gear and extra are a bonus, once completed i move on, i do not care about efficiency or speed, i do not like repetition, i'll do a dungeon 5 times then i'm done finished no more, to rinse and repeat stuff as some challenge blah blah is frustrating and tedious to me.
Not everyone cares about how great they are or how good they can strive to be, for me its just enjoy the sights and move on.
Unbelievable. I hope these types leave.
If people are forming a premade for speedruns and only want to invite the best geared people to ensure the fastest runs, I don't see any problem. Don't like it? Don't join.
Yesterday, I mentioned the devs post on this subject and finally found it in Lodestone Update notes, re: it was not intended for ppl to skip mobs in dungeons. Here is a snippet of it and the link to the page:

The following adjustments and countermeasures have been implemented:
-Changes have been made to the behavior and mechanics of the enemies found within the “The Wanderer’s Palace” and “Amdapor Keep” dungeons to counteract instances of players running through the dungeon without engaging enemies on the way to bosses. As advancing through dungeons without defeating enemies is not an intended strategy, we plan to continue making further changes in the future to discourage this type of behavior.
