Good 60 - 80% of those jerks will dissapear in about 2 - 3 weeks time - both due to unwilling to sub for the game as well as they've burned out through the content too fast and will simply get bored. Some will return in 3 months once the 2.1 will be released for another month and then dissapear again and so on ... This "PC only" / "Geared up & Experienced only" kind of snobism is the worst possible atitude in the game really ...

People acting like that is the main reason I quit WoW. If it happens here as well then I'll do the same thing, level to the end game and enjoy as much of the plot and story as I can and then quit. I hate gear score systems, the addition of the GS addon was the single worst thing to happen to World of Warcraft in the entire history of the game.

No one is good at tanking. It's just a mass of players who can't hold aggro, or don't even try. Don't lose hope though, you're probably much better than most, and a willingness to learn is key.

I'm confused by everyone saying they ask if there are first-timers. The game pops up saying you're getting the first-timer bonus, isn't that a dead giveaway? I've never had an instance where it wasn't someone's first time through and we never had to ask...

personally i think a party wiping is a part of learning, bein new to a dungeon is a chance to see how the boss mechanics work/ get used to the fights.. myself ive died a few times on some bosses.. espiecally the meanie demon door boss in keep but after a few attempts u know the patterns of the boss attacks and its quite easy after that ;/ just leavin after 1 death is just >_< but i agree there should b bigger punishments for deserters to encourage ppl to stick to the dungeon teams cause the debuff isnt much atm and ppl dont mind waitin 5mins or somethin to use DF again... hopefully they implement somethin in future patches to stop this happening ;/

I don't get why people says that since the cutscenes are a part of the instance and not the quest so you actually can't watch them at the inn

The only time I've ever abandoned a dungeon is when a SMN deliberately ignored the marks and dotted all the mobs after I had slept them and then proceeded to kill any mob other than "1". My boyfriend (my pocket tank) pointed it out, and the guy kept doing it. After twice more, we just left. Pretty sure the guy was just doing to to be an asshat.

yup i personally dont mind waitin for ppl to watch the cutscenes cause i enjoyed the whole story up to the current end game found it really enjoyable n some of the charcters r sooo cute :P n besides just cause some1 has seen it doesnt mean some1 else has to skip it due to somebodies impatience ;/

sometimes i might actually hit wrong target due to targettin on ps3 is pretty >_< so i generally wait 10 secs n scroll targets to make sure im hittin right 1 xD

I don't really believe this. If it is true then it's just a small percentage probably less than 5% of players in DF. I am playing a tank. I'm level 42 currently. I will be running stone Vigil when I get home from work. I run each dungeon at least 3 times until i crest over into the next dungeon. I have yet to see anyone get upset at all over new players. I do however see new players in something crazy like 90% of my runs. I can see where a fresh 50 might go through a period where is he the little dog. Honestly tho, who cares if some jackass makes a snide comment. F em.

Some people just wanna watch Eorzea burn! All these people with this sh1t attitude will be out of the game soon and it will be left to the people that just want to enjoy it and have fun! Stick in there OP!

lmao when u get to the point where ppl expect 20-30min dungeon runs ofc if theres a first timer its gonna b slower so these ppl just ditch the parties n find a new 1 = =

@ anarkh i just feel sory for the first timers in a dungeon considering most use df n generally have a reasonable longish wait its not fair on them is all when some1 just ditches them cause its thier first time 90% of the community r really nice, helpful n friendly ppl ;/ but its becoming more common atleast in my experince :P

I've had it worse. Tanks have afk'd my last 7 dungeons, which three of those times were my first time. Tank kiting actually worked >.>

I'm yet to meet these people , but first timer or not, I'll help everyone as much as I can! Unless they're a rude ass ;) I'll be honest, I'm kind of dreading getting to 50 and doing these end game dungeon 'speed runs' I've read about, being the tank, I'm probably gonna piss alotta people off!

I ask the same question, that way I know if I need to explain boss mechanics or not.
Leaving because you get first timers is just silly.

As to the OP: I ask this question all the time, but it's not to quit if people say they are new. This information is necessary for most dungeons, because based on the answer I know whether or not I will have to explain every boss encounter to the party I am in. If everyone says they have done the dungeon before, that's awesome, but if not...well time to get typing and to explain the bosses.

i just hope at some point theres a harsher penalty for those "deserters" but when u think about it the system would most likely think that ppl who dc r deserting dungeon parties soooooo its not fair on ppl just disconnecting tho ;/

Probably they won't, elitists like this aren't 'F2Pers', there have been this sort of jerk since MMOs came into being, there are many playing FFXI and have been for nigh on 10 years.

The 'speedrun' syndrome is indeed a good part of it as far as I can see, SE need to do something to kill that concept.

I had one party member who won the roll on the pink weapon he needed and after he got it, he left the dungeon. And we were only at the 2nd boss.

and how many don't even bother saying Hi or even a single word for the whole dunjeon ? maybe the same ppl...

yeah mayb bring in a system that encourages helping the lower leveled ppl /1st timers since the system already says when 1 party member is a 1st timer perhaps somethin similar to master/apprentice system? dunno how could work tho...

@ dharma thats just .... they could atleast show common courtesy to the party n atleast finish it ;/

Part of the trouble with tanking in this game is that you outlevel those early instances so fast you only really get one run through them anyway.

I always ask if its anybody's first time, but only so I know if I have to explain the fights beforehand.

Seriously, the thing I'm most worried about in a pug are the terrible players. My last one I had a Black Mage who did nothing except cast Ruin (seriously, Ruin? Not even Arcanists want to use Ruin!), then fire and blizzard once now and again for the buffs (don't know why he was using the astral fire buff if he is only using ruin). This was when he cast anything at all - had him selected for a good 3 minutes, and he would take 30s breaks to do nothing in between Ruin casts. Also had a Dragoon in that party who refused to move for ANY AoE, except the boss. I don't understand how they could be this bad, yet follow the mechanics, and the BLM was right on sleeping marked targets, he just didn't do any damage ever.

This is only one out of many experiences with the Duty Finder. Its a good thing I was the healer, and my friend was the tank or else we would have been screwed. I actually had to help DPS as the healer, and so did he as a Paladin.

I'm getting frustrated with too many people not knowing their jobs, and not moving out of AoEs, not even trying. Its one thing if they DO try and are just a bit new, but to be talking to us in the chat, yet when we ask him to avoid the AoE he goes silent and continues to stand in them..

That's one of the reasons why I resort to maintaining a friends list of good groups that I've PUG'ed with and seeing if they can help me finish my dungeon runs. I personally still consider myself a new tank, so I really don't want to have the "GO GO GO GO HURRY" experience. I need to LEARN to play tank, and I feel that I can't do that if I'm being rushed. I always ask for feedback and work to improve, so there's that.

When running low level (sub-30) content you can usually tell someone is going to be unbearably bad if they're on a job. Scholars are maybe a 50/50, as they legitimately gain something for going with their job even at level 15, but everyone else is guaranteed to have no idea what they're doing with having their job equipped for no benefit being a dead giveaway. Just a bit ago I was in Halatali with a bard who was making things hell for everyone by seemingly intentionally competing against the tank for hate and then kiting so nobody could hit anything - I ended up just leaving after a few pulls, taking the 15 minute cooldown after a 45 minute queue rather than deal with playing tag.

Bad archers are basically the only reason I ever ditch a party...

See, I might not talk all that much and I might have my WAR crystal on, but I don't mind having to 'splain things to others, or have things 'splained to me.

I'm one of the oddballs in mmo's who is just as shy here as they are irl, but you know what, if someone asks about something and I know the answer? I'll tell them, it just might take me a minute or 3 to make words. Last few runs I've had on a diffrent character, one dungeon I had someone telling me what all was up, our tank dropped, and we all chatted a little and then tried to win anyway. Super close, but no dice. The one before that, it was me and the tank left, just before maininance on the JP servers. We were gonna try to get as far as we could, but as soon as I hit the Make Bomb Happen switch we got kicked. I find this stuff fun, and while I'm worried about who I'll meet when I get to end-game, I'm here for fun. And when the run ain't fun, I'm done, but it doesn't matter if you are new or not to me! Just don't be a ass! We'll get on fine. :)

It's nothing PERSONAL, it's just that if I have to physically chase every single mob trying to hit it, that's not fun - I'd rather go back to crafting and wait for a different party. If I'm melee nowadays, that means I'm DPS and they'll replace me within seconds; I gave up tanking because I don't enjoy playing paladin anymore.

I ran Stone Vigil last night with an amazing group of guys who had not done the dungeon before. I explained everything I knew and we did ok wiped a few times but only on the blizzard things. when we got to the last boss we had exactly 8 minutes left to kill it and we did it! They were so happy!!! We all tried to add one another to friend lists but couldn't because we were all from different servers. That was probably the best run I have ever done.

The chat tells you if it is someone's first time, so it is odd that people ask. If I see that it is someone's first time, I offer boss strats.

When you leave a dungeon before anyone starts fighting, there is no 15 minute wait by the way. :\

I always ask if there is a 1st timer when I queue for a dng I already know, because I explain the things while we playing so we don't fail so much.
And when is my 1st time, I ask for advice on bosses so I don't fail so much.

I ask for first timers when I see in my chat window that we have new people in a dungeon. I ask so I can help them along the way so they can pass that knowledge on. I also ask for advice if I'm first since I always play a dungeon once as my tank and then go through as my healer. I do leave though if the group is a complete fail, and by complete fail i mean if the healer doesn't heal, or think they are a tank/dps only and only healing themselves, if the DPS thinks they are a tank and tries to pull everything on them then runs around and get's themselves killed, only to have the mobs scatter and kill everyone (had that happen on my healer). Having the tank just not use tank skills, so everyone dies (especially me as healer). But I usually don't leave if there is a minor problem or if it's something I can control if it looks like chaos will ensue.

Thanks for all the useful help. In my first dungeon as a Tank due to a strange bug all of my skills disappered from my skill bars . All of them poof. SE says they are looking into it. So i had to ask my team for a minute to adjust and then told them it was my first time but i would do my best for them. I died three times but they waited and were nice and we had a nice run and everyone got nice gear drops. I enjoyed it and felt encouraged but have waited to level up and get good gear before doing it again and will study the dungeons on line to get the info but I do plan to be honest and let anyone know I am learning and will welcome help, just please keep the Healer Alive and let me do my job and I will do whatever i can for the group.

My biggest mistake in hindsight was not dealing with enough of the secondary enemies, i focused on the Bosses and I think i let the team work too much on the others..but i tried to keep an eye on things and always tried to get the boss focus always on me..and I think the others were experineced and also very nice.

I haven't seen anyone bail because of first timers, I have however had the urge to leave because of bad first timers. I don't mind that they die a few times, it's expected, they're learning the dungeon, but to die repeatedly yo the same thing that you know will happen, and was explained to you several times, is ridiculous. The only times I have ever abandoned, were because one person left, and then the rest of the team just decided to quit, leaving me alone, or because It's a primal fight has gone on for 80 minutes, with no one in my party pulling their heads out of the rears and realize what it is they're doing wrong(Had a team recently that had to die about 7 times, before they realized how to live through Garuda's lb, and even after that, they couldn't get her under 1/16 of her health before the whole party gets wiped leaving only me alive).
