The only pattern I see here is constant ignorance and entitlement.

As far as I'm concerned this maintenance was sorely needed.
I was able to log on this morning which was amazing, considering usually I couldn't log in till after 10pm EST. Granted, I've yet to see how it fares during peak hours for my region but the fact that I can actually log in and play during non-peak hours is progress.
Yes, there are measures that are being taken to control the influx of people but those measures are temporary.
And yes, some people are experiencing problems but that is to be expected.
However, people need to man up to the fact that things are getting better and they are getting better in a timely fashion.
Moreover, yes, we all paid for the game but they haven't started charging people the monthly service fee- even the people from 1.0 like myself. All of the new players still have their free month.
Bottom line, the game works but the servers are still a little unstable. Be patient and it will clear up in due time.
Its not the issue they are complaining about, its the content of the complaint. Also, people are complaining like its a personal affront or like SE just doesn't care. Neither is the case. SE wants you to all log in and many more and are working to make that happen. I'm sure they are just as upset about these errors as you are. I find people attitudes about the issues to be more irritating than the issue itself. especially thepart.Quote:
we paid for a service we're not getting
You still have your "free days/month", as long as you haven't paid a monthly sub and or lost anytime. Then all I see at this point is point whining over not playing. SE didn't steal anything as of yet ( until they charge you a sub) and things are still this way then all of this bickering would be justified.
I know everyone wants to play, but SE is trying hard to fix these issues so everyone can play.
Got in first try, and a friend was able to create a new char on my server first try. First impressions of the maintenance was a success for me. I realize we may be the exception (1%-ers if you will), but it makes me hopeful since I had previously been a part of the 'hours w/o logging In' crowd.
What entitlement I was stating some facts about business in general. I am being patient and have not done any name calling only stated some things that are self evident. Please do not personally attack a general statement about monetary gains and losses, I have a guild with over 30 people and half already stated they are done, that's 15 subs less a month already and that's just my guild due to these issues, want the game to succeed? Bet you its not putting limitations on EVERYTHING including forum post counts. I am more than willing to discuss stuff, but lets leave the blatant name calling or accusations out of it okay?
My comment really wasn't 100% directed at you. But making assumptions based off what your guild mates say really doesn't equate to trends for the entire population. With my FC/LS, while there has been some discontent over the server issues, no one has really threatened to quit over it. I think a lot of people need to take a step back and look at the situation more objectively and without blind rage like so many people here. If you are being patient, I certainly applaud you for doing so, more people around here could learn from that.
Well I thought it was from the general context my apologies to you as well, and yes im being patient for what its worth which is sad for me since I did get a whole week off from college this week and was super excited, its more like a 75% excitement atm tho...my super concern is just trying to get all my friends (guild) onto one server and atm its not looking super promising, I did see on the mog station that transfers where coming soon but not sure how it will be done yet. Anyroad,
time for tea.
So basically SE is screwing players over still. 1017 for ever. They need to hold 15k each not half that
Clueless just about sums your post up.
They've added 3 new servers FOR THE MOMENT. I certainly read between the lines to see that they have more to add if they need to. Server merges are bad news generally in MMO terms as people start to think the game is dying and jump ship sooner.
They haven't vastly underestimated their sales this time - they have hard numbers to inform their decisions. They couldn't do the upgrades or add capacity until now because new servers take at least 2 weeks to arrive from being ordered. These were ordered as soon as they realised their error during beta 4
Actually that is their goal, but they need to limit concurrent logins and gradually raise the limit to ensure stability.
Exactly this, how soon people forget what happened to TOR. I'd rather deal with these types of issues now, than have extremely low populations later because everyone is too spread out.
Lol. I find this extremely amusing. What kind of info are people supposed to be looking up exactly? "We are aware of an issue that is keeping you from playing the game that we released a week ago and recently performed a 10 hour maintenance on, keep checking back for updates". This info is fucking useless, do you want to know how I know? Because I would be doing the same thing whether i read that or not.
I can't justify paying for something I'm not able to access. If they offered a refund I just might take it. Either way, I'm not paying for a subscription until these issues are completely fixed. My free time is at a premium these days and I don't want to waste it mashing the 0 key.
Guys its okay once enough people leave due to the multiple issues the problem will solve itself. Then all we have to do is wait for FFXIV: SE files for bankruptcy. Anyways I'm logged in atm just wanted to make a little joke about all this bs.
I fear I will have to echo the sentiments of disappointment at this latest development. 10 hours of downtime and a lot of claims made. End result, one new server and character creation was open for about an hour. Many communities still have large numbers of friends and family that have been unable to play together or in many cases even buy the game or make a character. I realize this was unexpected but Square Enix is a multi-million dollar company that should have had the reserve required, if not simply the experience and professionalism to deal with this in a much timelier fashion than they have. I like many, adore the franchise, but I will be honest, my faith in them as a company is very low.
Yup failed at launch... just like WOW, just like Rift, just like Anarchy Online, just like [place just about any MMO name here].
It blows me away how short the memory of MMO players is. Having a game stable in the first week, regardless of betas, is akin to hitting a bulls-eye blindfolded. Is it possible, sure, is it likely, no. Every MMO I've played, going very far back, has had stability problems early on. SE will do what every other MMO producer who has had these issues has done. They will fix their problems, they will give you free play time to make up for the period you couldn't play. Those who like the game will play; those who don't will move on. In the end it won't matter what you did and didn't do on week one, two, three ect. All that will matter is that the game is fun and you can enjoy yourself.
Well my experience thus far was logged in right away after maintenance, played 2 hours logged out. Logged in again in prime time like 1 hour ago without any problems. So even tho some people are still experiencing problems the fact is significant progress has been made and i can only assume any additional hiccups will be resolved the following days.
Exactly this. I think a lot of maturity issues also stems from f2p players that MMO hop. Too many people also forget what ends up happening to MMOs that expand with too many new servers at launch. They become ghost towns and usually result in mergers that also result in bad PR. Its a self deprecating cycle and luckily I think SE knows this.
It was 5000, now 7500, thats a big increase so...
So I take it some worlds are still hitting the login cap?
I logged in about 7 hours ago (about as off-peak hours as possible) on a relatively high population NA server. Got a queue of length 6 at the time and went right in. At work, so not sure if still logged in or not. Not really expecting that to be normal, but it happened this morning.
For background, this server has been 1017 (World is full) non-stop since the weekend basically. Back during early access when servers were getting emergency maintenance every day I was able to log in during the early morning, but 1017 all afternoon/evening. On Tuesday 7AM to 8:30 Eastern US time I spammed login for 2 solid half hour increments - got nothing but 1017 and once a queue length 172 that eventually turned to error 1017. On Sat/Sun, I logged in (eventually) during morning, but crashed a bit after 2PM both days. Spam login for 5-30 mins at a stretch, take a break, then spam login again. Saturday I never got back in, even after 8 hours of that. Sunday I did make it back in after about 4 hours.
Hoping this maintenance helps, but not confident.
Other servers with less population wouldn't have this kind of trouble. But even if there was character transfer option, I'm not inclined to take it.
The kicking AFKs idea seems like it might help, but I'm not entirely certain. If having a toon standing somewhere AFK is just a small drain on server resources, then it could be they have already adjusted the login cap up and are running at technical capacity without counting AFKs. However, it's also possible that there's a large untapped server capacity being hogged by AFKs -- seriously, as long as login caps are being hit, not many people are going to log out on purpose. You see them standing all over the sanctuaries. And I'll be one of the AFKs until login actually starts working reliably.
If that is the case, I do feel bad for you. I don't think anyone is saying there are no issues. I have a LS mate that was 3102'd this morning, but he was able to get back in after 45 minutes. Also SE has official acknowledged there is another issue causing that error. Hopefully you'll be able to start enjoying the game again shortly.
I'll echo what a few other people here have written..
The new simultaneous user max is over 400,000 with room to go up from there.
That's right around the Guild Wars 2 all time record, which is also a FREE TO PLAY game.
If ARR is ramming up against this new number, then things are really really good for the game.
Also, SE did something tremendously smart by increasing server capacity before adding a ton of new worlds.
Completely agreed, and as the cap increases per world things will be better off. I'm not one to arm-chair sysadmin like others here...but with large scale systems like this, you really want to test how your software/hardware responds under certain load conditions. SE is wise to gradually raise the player cap per world to ensure stability.
Funny thing is with all you complainers saying " square ruined another FF game, Im quitting etc etc" if this was truely a issue in your eyes and you hated square so much you wouldn't be on the forum complaining nor would you be trying to spam logins. So admittedly you are all dedicated to square and love them to death your just trying to be like the "cool" kids and say the game sucks, you hate square. Because thats the "cool" thing to do
The haters never really actually mean what they say. Once they can play, they'll "forget" they ever said such nasty things on here :P
Out of curiosity, does anyone know how many servers GW2 has? I'm just wondering what the rough max number of concurrently logged in players is on their servers (or any semi successful mmo for that matter) to compare to this new upgrade of ~7500-7800 concurrent players in XIV.
And how many servers did they have?
Not even sure if they tried to fix any the existing issues. More likely than not they only had the maintenance to add new worlds. The purpose of new worlds to help with login issues?? No I don't think so at all, the only thing new worlds is so that they can sell more copies/digital downloads again. A scramble to make more money before the free trial is over and they end up 20k subscribers again.
