AOE issues preventing me from beating titan.

I've actually had this problem too, i play on Excalibur which is a NA server but not that it matters since EU servers are at the same place, i'm from the UK have 60MB connection, an have had this problem a lot, mainly when i use the DF. when i'm actually on my server there isn't much of a problem. it all happens when i'm using DF which are the instance servers. It really does make a lot of content very difficult to do, an its not like this problem is new its been around since 1.0, so I'm just not sure why they haven't acknowledged that there's still a problem with this.

If you're playing on a wireless network, try switching to a wired. It won't solve this completely (since most of it is on SE's end), but it'll help.

there really isn't anything you can do about this except learn to predict the fight (Titan has a very predictable order of moves he uses) because you're simply too far from the servers

Same issue here, located in Australia. I did the Ifrit fight for the first time today as Arcanist, whenever I saw an aoe indicator drop I would move well out of its zone and still be hit a second or so later.

I went back in as Archer and didn't stop running the entire fight and sure enough I wasn't hit by any aoe whatsoever.

So basically to avoid aoe you need to be moving before they even start casting..

(Also never had this issue with any other MMORPGS, coming from someone who does WoW raid content and knows how to move from bad stuff on the floor.) :\

I'm from the UK and get this problem. Even on mobs outside of duties I will get hit even though I moved out of the way of the red cone/circle/rectangle etc.
Took me a few attempts on the final WAR quest.
I've had major issues with Titan (still not beat him) to the point I got abusive messages from the pickup party. Wish I recorded it so I could show them I was moving in time and then post it to their faces....with hot glue....and feathers.

Since the update I cant even play the game. I login fine but then lag hits me and 90k closes the game.

Sad truth of it is there is probably very little SE can do. Its not like they're going to be opening a new UK Aus based data center/servers any time soon. It might be latency from your ISP to the servers.

I have the same issue, lv47 tank, and it would be crucial to avoid AoE attacks, which i do, as soon as i see the red mark i move way out of there, often i go completely behind them, and i still get hit. I failed many attempts because of this lag, and it is quite frustrating. Currently i am at the final boss in Aurum Vale,and i always get hit by bad breath. This needs to be fixed. Fix this AoE latency!!!

Believe me it doesn't help to be close of the data center although it probably can't hurt. I live as close as it gets from it and still experience terrible latency when it comes to evading aoe.

Lol this is entirely a problem with the game. It doesn't happen in other games.

same here. healer. so luckily i can stay away most of the time but some fights (titan) are a major pain.
this made me think that playing a melee dps or tank is completely out of the question for me since as dps you are always in a boss's face and have to dodge aoe all the time.

as others said. unless we are geting true eu servers i wont be subscribing either.

i dont understand the director at all. most of the godamn content is based on running out of cones and dodging. how can one drop the ball so hard...?

This problem have been around since 1.0. Remember those Ifrit fights and death by invisible plumes. Dont think there is anything SE can do about it. Unless they increase the time for ppl to escape those AOE abilites.

Aussies are experiencing this very same issue, not sure what to do at end game tbh...

I don't believe its latency for one second. Being a programmer myself it hard to explain that everything else is realtime but AOE still hits you when you think you are moving. Explain why AOE is the only thing that is affected. Ive seen lag and latency and it doesn't pick one thing to slow down. There is obviously some engine issue with AOE/movement that is system wide, not just related to Duty Finder/Raids

I have these same issues and they are making it impossible to keep playing, especially if raiding and pvp are in the future.

Can any one explain me why this issue is non existent in about every MMO/FPS/MOBA/RTS/Beat them up yet in this game it feels like I'm using a dial up modem?

Everything else is definitely not real time. It's really easy to notice when casting spells because the casting bar is highly unreliable because of latency. Often you get interrupted for no reason because the server thinks you stopped moving after you started casting, the bar shows the wrong spell being cast or just completely miscalculates the length of the cast. It's pretty horrible.

This is all due to the same problems with how the data is being handled and not adjusting for the delay or improving how to translate the data into a workable result. This problem is an umbrella over the game that will destroy endgame before it starts and kill an otherwise fun game. People need to stop saying it is lag, handling data 3 times a second is far too slow and compiling that with any other form of latency makes for an unplayable game. Even solid connections to local servers are affected by this and it is cross-linked in other ways to server loads and duty finder loads but could be adjusted for and simply is not.

Here we go again.

In most cases it isn't your ISP.
You can check it by tracing 184.107.107.176 or check recourse monitor and your latency.

Here is why you lag,the server checks every 0.3 second where you are so basically you got standard 300ms.
Now since you are from Europe you get another 100 to 200 ms on top of it.
You're basically playing with about 450 ms.

Next to that the data centre is over loaded, you had your error 1017 and the duty finder servers are capped as well.
Which means that you can encounter lag spikes because of the server.

The reason you don't have the issue in other games out side of Europe is because they check your position differently.
Which means you don't play with an extra 300 ms.

Now a side not every game has latency, it is normal.
Take WOW me and my gf have 18 ms but still when I jump she sees it a second later on her screen.
The difference is that it's masked in such a way that we all experience it as instant, it's just coded in that way.

Same happens to me and im on ps3. I see the aoe and run so dang far away out of the aoe and still get hit. I have screenshots of being behind the boss and the front cone aoe still hits me. I have no lag ever and im on Cactuar server in the US.

i think this is a bug that just needs to be fixed.

I don't want to cycle through all pages of the post, but the solution to this is to learn the encounter and premove. Titan is a scripted fight, and always has the same pattern. You just need to learn the pattern, see where your group members are, and visualize a safe spot, and move there when Weight is about to happen.

I have the same issue, really really bad, but I've learned to navigate through it. Think of it like Dragon Ball Z training, in the gravity room. Once the issues are fixed, you're going to be a god at getting out of stuff.

This is the broken = hard mode argument, and while I have raided broken things before with much success, it is not a legitimate way to increase an encounters difficulty; This reminds me of being a very young programmer and trying to use the computer's latency by adding more lines of junk code to stall time, this seems just as lazy to me when it is a problem that can be fixed to the satisfaction of most everyone and has been fixed on other games.

I have to agree, with my free month ending soon - I am not sure if I will bother to sub up. This game could have been so much more but instead just fails at the basics of all mmo's. Even if Titan is scripted, running before he casts landslide/plumes still does not work at times. I have watched a friend play with the same issues and dies on every attempt. I can safely tell you he ran way before the cast, the plume landed a yalm or two behind him - he keeps running and it hits him and kills it.

The silence of any and all bug fixes / balancing (*cough WAR cough*) just makes me sad. If they plan on doing that in patch 2.1, its a little too late for me personally. Waiting for 2 months for the game to somewhat get better is just a no go for me.

The only way i found to combat this is learn the boss mechanic to the point you can predict the aoe. In ifrit hard mode, AK you can learn which ability it will use next and react accordingly.
Also if you have instant ability or are DD you can keep strafing which seems to greatly improve your chance to evade the attack in time. I had to use this strategy for Dzeamal boss

Titan's AOE's Spawn randomly, ifrit's spawn in a set pattern, hence why I'm getting screwed over by titan, not ifrit.

Also I'm a healer, I have to stand still and heal.

No, sorry I don't buy it anymore, I quit, I'm done, I'll go back to WoW, maybe check out Wildstar but your sorry excuse for a company will not see a god-damn penny of subscription money from me, and I will urge others to avoid this game at every opportunity.

I'm always floored when someone is censored for speaking their mind and saying something negative about a product. Granted, Square does own these forums and they have the ultimate say on what stays and goes, but deleting posts because it's negative is inexcusable.

Moderators; You should be ashamed of yourselves. Everything this user stated is accurate and well within their rights. Perhaps if you stopped posting about new content and addressed the GLARING latency issue, you wouldn't have customers so upset. I bet even going so far as saying there is a problem or even that you are looking into the problem (it's called VALIDATION) would go a long way. Perhaps you need community moderators? This is the opposite of a good PR move. At this point, you have essentially backed your IT department into a corner and now they have to address the latency issues publicly to save any kind of face.

You may want to forward complaints to your Sr Systems Admin at this point or even provide contact information to your NA/EU data center's IT department. It's becoming apparent that the communities pleas are falling on your deaf ears, so who does one contact to get an answer and/or something done?

If need be, I can provide all necessary information needed to show a consistent issues with the nodes and fiber of the companies your rent from. Do I need to log a trouble ticket on Square's behalf? The contact information for your rack and fiber provider are easy to find. Do I need to pull yet more data to show the issue is not client side but server side? I'm all for a solution, but we may be talking to the wrong people.

Hiding behind ToS to justify the removal of a post that shows Square in a negative light. Clever work around, but that's just CS lingo for "we don't like what's being said and we're going to remove it".

I'd like a direct response from a Moderator stating that they have forwarded a support ticket about the latency issues to their Engineering Department for review or provide the open trouble ticket numbers that are currently logged with the rack and node providers so users can follow up on the status.

I doubt that my request will be directly replied to and information provided. Either the Moderators are overtaxed (all the copy/paste posts about upcoming additions that will be plagued with yet more bugs must be overwhelming), they don't have the expertise or are in the loop to answer, or simply haven't been given the green light to answer.

I have this issue as well. I'm from Australia, I play on both the NA and JP servers and get the issue on both, so don't tell me it's my ISP or latency :) I have plenty of end-game experience in other games, most of which I played on a US server with latency of 300-400ms. Never been struck by an AoE that I was miles out of in my other games!
This completely rules out hard mode content for me, meaning at this point I will not be subscribing. This issue combined with the continued 90k has done the dash for me.

Shame, it was an enjoyable game. Unfortunately Square Enix really needs to learn a thing or two about customer support- I've had better support from a telco company and that is just sad. I was really hoping for more from a company I have worshipped for years :(

the same thing was happening to me, and its not just titan, and enemy that targets me with an area attack, ill always get hit regardless how much i run, it wasnt so much a problem until square thought insta-kills in an mmo would be fun

Just to confirm, the above poster is correct, I was banned for losing my temper and using "offensive language". I was given no warning, no chance to edit my post, and no link to the rules they referenced to ban me (which I still can't find).

I know I said the previous post would be my last on the subject, but since then I've been given a work around, in a latency fix originally designed for WoW, and I felt I should share it with everyone. It edits the TCPAckFrequency setting in your registry, increasing the number of TCP acknowledgements sent to the server, which in turn reduces your latency in some situations.

I just want to stress though, this won't work for everyone and this issue is NOT fixed by any means, all this will do is alleviate the problem for some players who are playing with significant extra latency caused by poor connections usually due to distance from the server. It won't do anything to cut down on the 300ms SE's terrible coding has arbitrarily added to the game, and some AoE attacks still remain undodgable, for example the Magitek Cannon attack used by Magitek Reavers in CM. However for me this has made titan doable, and I now have my shiny relic staff.

Here is some tricks that will help you beat the character sync issues.
Basically in essence the server isn't re-registering your position when you get out of the circle it still reads your character inside it.

Predict the plumes- Memorize his attack pattern. After landslide your brain should automatically be screaming PLUME in your head. Don't cast between the two unless its needed.
Re-sync your position- Ok, after you are out of the plume cast ANY skill with a casting bar. It DOES not have to go through. It will basically re-sync your position.
Use LEGACY character settings- I literally just taught my coil group about this. Ok normally when you click s you walk slowly backwards and use your mouse and shiet to move. Legacy settings allow you to run backwards, side to side, up efficiently.

I don't have any trouble dodging titan after practicing these few things. It's annoying, but basically I don't expect SE fixing the issue really anytime soon. Turn down your graphics etc to minimize lag if needed.
