Good effort BG.
We've been doing him for a couple of days now.
I've watched your vids BG and theres one thing i dun understand...
Is there something you do to stop him from porting all the time in Phase 1?
Cause in the vid he barely ever ports...
When we do him he literally (no joke) ports around 15+ times!
He ports then right after he is done with his beam he ports again midways while running back to the tank.
We can't DPS him down fast enough cause he is never there to get the damage.
Can't DPS something that don't exist...
^ Ya What he said >.<
There's no real secret to what we're doing. We're just DPSing him as hard as we can. Sometimes he ports a lot; sometimes he doesn't. Sometimes he spams Plasma Acoustics; sometimes he doesn't. If your DPS are pushing as much as possible, it shouldn't matter how often he's porting if you're going for your first kill. What's more significant in terms of getting the win is to maintain focus so that the DRGs never lose Power Surge and no one dies. On top of that, every single Lunar Dynamo that lands can add 15-30 seconds to the fight, and each Plasma Acoustics can add 10 seconds up to a full minute or more, depending on fast your WHM(s)/MNK(s) are at ripping the defense-up buff.
Just for frame of reference, our DRGs are peaking somewhere around 90-100 DPS at the end of phase 1 (before he goes up for his second Megaflare). Our group for this is pretty well-geared, but even just a consistent 50-60 DPS on each DRG should net you the kill. Make sure everyone has enough accuracy (~450 for physical, ~515+ for magical).
Well our DRGs aren't dying during first phase.. they go all out and they're good ones too.
I (tank) usually avoid the beam after porting and let him run back to the spot i tank him (back against the wall behind where he stands when we pop in) but he just screws us up by porting non stop in phase one.
3 ports back to back is a long time for me (tank) to not pop any abillities or weapon skills thus loosing precious hate to the vicious Dragoons
...
He "seems" to port a lot more that 70-60% phase right before he first calls down meteors. High dps does seem to hold him still at times, but then you get the random port spam no matter what you do.
BG is doing some crazy dps so they kinda blow through that port phase..
No one focus's on DPS quite like BG that I can attest to 1st hand. Listen to the video's and hear the number keys getting hammered away shaving thousands of a second on cooldowns. When the whole party has this mentality it all adds up quickly, what BG gives up in survivability on many different encounters they make up for in pure DPS overpowering many situations. This strategy was used for Garuda skipping to clones for the world first kill and again here in P2 skipping the entire Golom phase by going from P2-100% to below 60% before his first port. There is simply no down time ever.
Run a parser its very hard to tell if someone is good or not till you see #'sQuote:
they go all out and they're good ones too.
Like Meat said, it feels like he teleports alot more in that first 40ish percent of his hp. If you are timing out though it shouldn't be because of this. You SHOULD only be losing 2-3 seconds of damage per person for every teleport he does if that. If you are having trouble getting him down past this phase quickly then that means you aren't getting into position fast enough to continue damage after he teleports. If you are quick you can get full combos off. You should basically be shooting at already being behind him and 1-2 weaponskills into a combo before he uses whatever ability he teleported away to use.
Don't forget that for the mele once he ports right behind him is the safe spot, so you can be dps'ing pretty fast right after he ports. (Most of us just assume everyone knows this from the easy mode)
As a mage I will run behind him as well if he is port spamming and pop 2nd wind and can usually get off a thunder -> thundara before he ports again. If he stays I can queue up a thundaga and "most of the time" 2nd wind will eat the chariot.
Inspired from the "Vanity Slot" thread, and a couple other posters in this one, try to complete the fight in full Santa/Reindeer gear. No time limit of course. :P
Can you have sarasta post his blm set please. I would really appreciate it.
I currently sit around 406 int and 495(i don't remember exact value) magic attack potency without calculating the spinel choker +1 and lightning brand, and 470 macc with button and no minuet. So I'm assuming I should push for 515 magic acc without minuet because it looked like he didn't have it the majority of the fight. So I'm thinking of dropping my spinel choker for a mage's choker. And then maybe toss in a magic acc ring which should push me closer to 515. But I lose 18 int and 35 attack magic potency to lightning, is that loss going to be a hindrance to one shotting the meteor with thundaga and freeze to a lesser extent.
Thank you very much for your time.
Oh and Sarasta..../kneel @ you with respect, watching how you executed your role as blm in that fight was inspiring and very informative.
I can tell you from seeing him in game his blm set is 2nd to none:
he has (somewhat guessing from memory):
+63INT on the hat (which already has 5MAP?) Quad meld
+140 crit on his ringband of storm
+55? INT on his lightning brand
+20INT on his legs
+44lightning MAP on his shoes
avg player can't solo those meteor spots that he does, this opens a job formation that 99.9% of players can simply not touch.
He eats button mushroom +1, and I think he kept his accuracy at 500 after food.
Even when we use two THMs for additional coverage, I don't think I've ever cast Freeze. Thundaga on the slow, high-HP meteors spawned while Nael charges his 2nd megaflare can help, but one-shotting them isn't a concern with what we consider the safe strat: two THMs and a BRD covering those particular meteors.
My THM set isn't anywhere close to Sarasta's, but I can still hold my own as the 2nd THM. For our speedkill, we're using him to one-shot meteors with Thunder under mega-potion of intelligence, but for a general strat, that's nowhere near necessary.
Off the top of my head, I believe I use:
Garuda's Van
Electrum Monocle with x3 INT (+11, +12, +16)
Militia Robe
Mage's Rope Belt
Mage's Halfgloves
Woolen Tights with x2 INT/PIE (+5, +7)
Mahogany Pattens with x3 m.atk (+8, +9, +11)
White Ravens
Spinel Choker +1
Zircon Bracelets +1
Coral Ring +1
Coral Ring +1
And NQ buttons on top of that, which puts me at around 515. If you belong to the Immortal Flames, the Ul'dahn Officer's Overcoat with Sanction is amazing, as long as you keep a Sanction scroll on you in case of mid-fight death.
I use the same set Carraway uses pretty much and get by with 500 acc.
2 blm are all you should ever need to drop the high hp meteors during his mega flare. As long as the dps is good enough up top and you can skip the fast meteors (which is after 7 i think) 2 blm can alternate easily enough to handle this phase.
The use of the mega int to one shot using a thunder is nice for 10 meteors :)
I would normally do blizzard -> thunder 1st then thundara 2nd, but if i could one shot them with thunder would make it a lot more efficient.
There are a lot of different setup and positions you can use for 10 meteors so as long as you can get to them reliably experiment and see what works best for your group.
Out of curiosity, I noticed that Darnus doesn't do the 2x Iron Curtain to Lunar Dyanamo (preceded by "Ahhhh..", "Yeeess..." or "Just so....") like he did in Rivenroad (Normal). Was that pattern removed, or changed up?
Won't this fight be in after the save point on Nov. 1st? Might see if my linkshell wants to give this a shot after that, not until then though too busy helping other members get relics, white ravens, darklight :P. Maybe some other challenges will come out too :P since there wont be anything else to do.
Thank you your quick responses guys. I'm sorry it took me so long to respond, was out all day. Looking at your set caraway, it seems I'm basically good to go, just got to grab some +1 coral rings instead of zircon, and i use flame body and hat with sanction instead. Sweet, I'm a little more confident now haha. But Daaaaammmmmmmmmmmnnnnnnnnnn 63 int hat 0.0, 55 int lightning brand... /drool.
Well i was DRG last night and i hit 72ish and the other DRG hit like 82ish from what they said 90ish is
what they hit so i'd say we weren't all that bad.
(I hope to hit bigger numbers today cause that dps was me at like 04:00 am last night)...
We doing better each day though. i'm expecting a win later today!
YARRR!!
Grats on the win last night yuri, figure I post to help and encourage ppl who might not have started doing this fight. By taking full advantage of the strats already posted by BG and watching the 10 meteor parts of the detailed video's linked @ around 9min. in each you could probably take a group through and win in 2-3nights work.
Some tips I gathered from doing Darnus way to much:
phase 1:
-he ports like a mofo from 75-60% just deal with it and push through
-60-35% 2thm+brd same north stair platform just to be safe
-20% 2thm+brd same north stair platform just to be safe
-As soon as he's below 20% DRG run up top, don't wait for port
-when he ports up top pld/whm kite golems and leash near top > rebuff everyone
phase 2:
-hold at 80% for port up top
-When he ports: Stay together below for aoe SS + sangine(when screen flashes), full buff, drg get full TP on golom
-burn 80-59% to avoid goloms
-40% 10 meteor: watch video's at 9min. for thm+brd (south stairs) / thm+whm (north stairs)
-40% 10 meteor: the main whm on the PLD can keep macro on Holy and kill a meteor if 1 slips by, PLD save hallowed ground if this happens so WHM can get MP back up.
-after fast 10 meteor nothing special here, don't go up top for ports just do the golom TP + buff as usual.
-20% 2 thm is enough on north stairs mid platform for alternating frags till win.
10 meteor South Stairs (brd + thm):
-#2 is fast and low => thundara
-#3 is low also => brd combo
10 meteor North Stairs (thm + whm):
-#4 is fast and low (when facing stairs its down to the right) => thundara
for the north stairs a single THM should be sufficient. I have average THM gear and can kill all 5.
1)Blizzard>Thunder
2)Thundara
3)Blizzard>Thunder
Run down the stairs a bit
4)Thundara on low meteor
5)Blizzard>thunder
As long as you dont have resists, its pretty easy to execute.
Question for WHM at the start of the 2nd Mega-flare when the Golums pop:
So far, I've been waiting for tank to grab them all and leash them (as I was told to do by my group)...should I Instead be running them to the top or at least kiting them on the bottom floor if they aggro me? We are doing a solo WHM setup and if I die in that phase due to my cures getting cancelled by heals, the party typically makes it through the 2nd Mega-flare but then dies due to no whm...
Setup: PLD:WHM:BRD: DRGx2:MNK:THM:BLM
^
you can stay down and wait for him to get back down, but it's probably better to follow him up a couple steps behind so he gets initial aggro on the ones on the stairs and platform, and so the golems that pop on the bottom level don't aggro you first. keep regen on yourself and the tank, pop featherfoot if you get aggro, etc. this is also usually a good time to pop shroud if you have it up and you get aggro on any of them. tank has cover as well.
also, if somehow you start taking a lot of damage and tank can't get them back, don't be afraid to pop sentinel. better to survive the golems and heal yourself up before megaflare than to try saving it for megaflare and end up dying anyway.
TY for the responses, I think mostly it was just an "OMG now what the heck do we all do" moment for us all there, but yeah, I'll follow tank a bit more and focus on surviving in the moment than waiting for Megaflare. Thanks again
by following this idea:
Was able to do 3 runs and get past all of phase 1, and into phase 2 before a few positional issues hit the group. This fight is really easy > watch the videos, read the strategy, find a group who can do a few nights of runs, Get your white raven.Quote:

edit: or u can pay 49M for it on durandal http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...fore-1.0-Ends? which really is not a bad price considering the time crunch.
Just clocked a kill in under 10 minutes from entry (about 9:07 I think), 8:48 of actual fight time.

Well grats on your 10 minute run, I s'pose.
well, for one- based on context clues alone i would expect the words "open challenge" to have something to do with... a challenge... open to certain/all people. or something. righ? righ.
and completely aside from that- we've posted public guides. we've answered questions. we've given advice. we've linked videos. how about you? but somehow our efforts still aren't enough... :(
anyway, the challenge still stands and we love to see whatever progress everyone is making. so keep fighting the good fight, friends :)
p.s. my DRG perspective video is also up ;D

But did you get a swift kill Lodestone achievement!?
