Goldeneye is also not what I would call multiplayer. IE. needs internet connection and the person
your playing is not in the same room as you.
While I would say Golden eye was the best FPS if it's time on the N64, It's is still the same
game format of Wolfenstine. Wolfenstine came out in 1992 on MS-DOS. You can keep going
back and find FPS like games, However It I'll points back to id Software as the true inventors
of the modern FPS format.

The PS3 UI doesn't really matter to me. But really any UI doesn't bother me. I don't play
Games hoping they are like other games. I play games by the rules set in that game. I really
doesn't matter to me what other games do. any way you look at in you have to learn the
lay-out, rules, and limitations of any game if you want to be good at it.
With UIs, things physically on the screen rarely correlate directly to the memory footprint of the interface as a whole. For instance, search algorithms used to sort gear, handle quest logs, etc, will take up significantly more memory than surface elements [O(logn) in most cases]. More to the point, it sounds like the Controller UI displays many fewer quests at any given time. That could just be from screen space considerations, but it also cuts down on that widgets memory footprint. I'm sure there are more examples, but it's not as cut and dry as "there are more things on the screen so it takes more memory".
I wont play it on PS3 so i don't give a damn if OP won't either then this thread is pointless
@OP:
You probably feel that way because the UI looks really similar to FF13, namely the font, and that was in a futuristic setting. At least when I first saw the PS3 UI it screamed FF13 to me.

Are there any other peculiar UI for the PS3?
M: Regarding the cross hotbar for the PS3 this can be displayed on the PC when selecting the gamepad control mode. The main part that is different is the part which displays the inventory. The white box with number shows number of items inside the 4 bags.
Y: Looking at this SS it shows first bag with 10 items, bag 2 with 5 items, bag 3 with 0 items, and bag 4 with 22 items.
M: On the PC versions we display this with dots.
Y: On the PC versions we have it color displayed to show the item, gear, materials but for the PS3 versions it can’t handle that much memory so for the PS3 version it will display the number of items with number display.

By saying PS3’s UI does it look different from the Windows version UI that was shown this time?
Y: Yes, In PS3 you can’t choose mouse+keyboard mode so the memory distribution is completely different.
I see, so the one we’re seeing now is Mouse+Keyboard UI?
Y: Yes, there is also something called gamepad mode and PS3 will be for that. For PC you can also choose the gamepad mode.
I'm sure you can still use a keyboard for the chat.
He said they wanted to make the gamepad control scheme as good as possible so that people don't end up avoiding PS3/gamepad users because they're handicapped, so the same should hold for the communication...
I am not knowledgeable enough to judge whether the keyboard+mouse UI is really that much memory heavy and why, so I'll just have to believe it. I still think it's kinda lame though...
Something like this would be neat if they had in the config options. along with maybe of handful of fonts to choose from. Time will tell though. I know i prefer not to use user generated addons as they can get pretty iffy.
I'm sure you can communicate with the PS3 visual keyboard or with a usb (or bluetooth) keyboard.
The handicapp he mean was more about the speed to klick a skill. Instead of moving a cursor to left or right to choose the skill the gamepad players can now choose a skill like the keyboard players direct with pressing a button.
Just to confirm - PS3 users can of course use a USB keyboard for communication and there will also be an on-screen keyboard as well.
They're not going to give you an option to use different job icons... but somebody will most certainly make a UI mod for that. Don't forget the moddable UI people :)
Frankly I don't really care about them and I don't know why anyone would complain about the icons. But take solace knowing that little things like these can easily be modded.
the icons are not the same color, take a closer look- the bard icon is yellow and the dragoon is ... burgandy.Quote:
(every icon the same color).
I'd like to say for the record that I think the currently-In-Dev UI looks like a massive improvement over the current UI, and I like the feel of it. It looks like it is clear and will be able to convey information to the player in an organised fashion (and customization is always a bonus).
How about for PC players who use the gamepad UI? Will the mouse be disabled and serve no function while FFXIV is in full screen or will you be able to click on things with it?
I know I much like having access to the mouse in the current game for menus even though I play with a controller.
Actually, go back to Wolfenstein and Doom for PC fps interface. Quake really nailed it. Not much has changed since the good old days.
Like.. PC users can still use gamepad UI and mouse/kb to select stuff right? ..Right guys?
Does it fit? Don't really care too much on that, but first and foremost it needs to be FAST. I saw on the demo videos that he had to drag and drop items, that is NOT fast. I really hope there is a right click to instant-move items from one menu to another. Another important thing is when items fall into your loot list, there should be a take-all option.
