I must have NPC'd 1000's of walnut masks at 1200 gil each when leveling CRP a few weeks ago. I'm sure that type of NPCing happens on a much larger scale than the few players spending all day numbingly buying dawn drops >.>

Well.. we really dont know how many people do that Stuff. I didnt care so far about it, since i make my Gil with other ways. If the case is, that many people do that, we will have an inflation. Inflations are natural and we had that kind allready with burning leves, no?

Yes, inflation is natural because of quests, normal NPC'ing etc. That said I've made 21M off dawn drops since I last slept (about to go to bed now). There are 37 people inside maelstrom who are standing, staring at the npc since I arrived 25 minutes ago so I assume most if not all are doing the same thing. You figure maelstrom is the least popular GC. We have hundreds of people doing this resulting in literally billions of extra gil being brought in daily.

Prices on Balmung have almost doubled to tripled (varies depending on what you're checking, someone shouting as I type this selling double melded Alkalurops for 25m, they were 8.7m last week) on high end equipment, medium stuff (materia/mats) have increased by 33% so far. Atomos has already ensured we're going to have a massively inflated economy until Nov 1st, the questions now are:

1) What will happen come 2.0 launch?
2) How inflated is this going to get? It's only gaining momentum, by this time next week we could easily be adding one hundred million gil to high end item prices.

Edit: Pre-Atomos there was a massive slowdown on Balmung, with people hoarding gil and prices slowly dropping because it was the closest thing to a sure thing for 2.0 (since we have no idea how materia, militia gear etc will compare to new gear). Atomos single handedly changed this and made the wards the most active I've ever seen (played since May 2012 only) because now the opposite is true, and items are your safest bet to have your money invested in.

There already been a massive inflation on our server masamune since this atomos crap, all double meld relic weapons have doubled, the materia for the relics has gone crazy, mag attk for example from 230k~ to around 700k~, and the mats to make of these weapons has also at least doubled, gold nuggets from 150k to around 350k. It may settle down abit once everyone stops farming this and goes back to making money other ways but if this atomos crap carries on the economy will just be ruined lol

Then we can do nothing but waiting it out and see if ARR change things, since i doubt SE would do something before ARR anyways. Large-Scale Events having an entry-fee, would be a first Step to create a new Gil-Sink.

There are other ways to make over 10mil besides Atomos. The OP is over exaggerating and blowing this whole thing out of proportion with a weak argument.

What you say makes no sense.

You have to sell the crystals to a player. So that 10 million gil is coming from another player. It already exists. Inflation occurs when players bring large sums of money into the economy, not when they move pre-existing currency around.

If people were npcing these (only 500 gil per), then we'd have a problem.

lol u obviously dont understand what people are doing :/ most people at the moment are farming stacks of crystals and then handing them in for 1k seals each 4 crystals or something, then every 15k seals they buy 100 stacks of dawn drops from gc counter and npc them so they are making millions from npc at a really quick rate 10m per day "Inflation occurs when players bring large sums of money into the economy", most are also using bots to do this as the buying of dawn drops takes forever, so the bot presses enter > left > enter repeat.

there are alot of easier way to make money, but all this money is not coming from other players but from the game so everyone is getting alot richer quicker and everybody on the server can achieve this even a level 1 DoH, hence the massive inflation.

I just hope SE realise how bad this is and stop the crystals from being handed in for GC seals or something before it gets even worse.

The only way i could think of right now, would be ending the "foundation day", or whatever it is what let those npc's appear where you trade the crystals in.

Look, Azu, I would love to be doing something besides making gil.... but there's nothing else for me to do.

I've done everything but beat Van Darnus hard... and I just don't have anything else to do but flood the economy with cheap coin.

People NPC stuff all the time! What is the difference between me farming walnut logs, making masks and NPCing them and farming crystals, buying dawn drops and NPCing them???

Where do you think all the gil came from originally? When the game started there was no gil. It all had to be introduced into the economy via NPCing/leves/quests, etc. And it is STILL being introduced and always will be. Hence gil sinks and blowing up materia melds.

This is actually true. Get your botanist to 50 and go mine up half a stack of resin +1s (its not that hard to do), buy some leather and sinew +1 for about 50k total and sit down and belt out militia longboots +1. Put them up on the AH for 110k and you make a good 2.5 mil profit.

These are class exclusive weapons, but not relicts. It is only 1 step in the quest you can buy with this way (and the beastmen coins, if someone sell them).

This is not FFXI.

IMO, this by definition is an exploit. The economist of Guild Wars 2 recently addressed these type of exploits and why they are harmful for the overall game (google state of economy GW2). Essentially, this is not an intended way of making gil (sort of like drug dealing) and therefore is harmful to the overall economy because it just causes inflation. Everyone taking advantage of this knows its not right. I refuse to participate in this and I hope you guys don't either. It has a negative impact on the game overall, so please stop.

I keep hearing about this Dawn Drops gil-making method, but don't understand it. Is there an item you can buy from your GC by this name, and then NPC? If so, what Rank is it from your GC seals NPC?

Said who? I just saw the talking about the max amount you can hold. I never saw anything which said "we will divide everyones gil by 10".

Here's what SE should do to not see this problem in ARR:

- Make "New Player Servers" and ONLY Newly created characters can go in these servers (No transfers on those servers for at least 1 year)

- Make Servers for the Existing ( For the people that will have all these insane amounts of gil and can charge and arm and a leg for stuff).

It won't fix the economy for the existing, but it will definitely will a fresh start for new players on those new servers.

( I myself would be going to a New Players server if they go this route). My Main character will just float there waiting to be put on a server till they allow transfers to those servers.

Translation: Take your gil divide it by 10 and thats how much gil you need to spend to not "lose any" and halt all gil making progress to avoid confusion :P ( that is of course that is there true intention :P)

It's a redenomination. Technically no one will really lose anything in terms of value, but deep down we'll all feel effected because we'll see high numbers go to much lower ones.

Please keep in mind that NPC prices are also reduced.

I doubt it'll work like that. in some areas sure. but i'd be fairly certain that you'd never see shards being sold for 10 gil. or some double melded relic weapons go for just 1 million. repairs may drop to 50 gil not 500g but i really don't see it going at all that well.

i'm not rich but lets say i have 30 million today. with that 30 million i could buy an a sarnga / mailbreaker double melded.
if in 2.0 they cut my money by 90% so i have 3 million do you really think i'll go to the ah /merchantile house and buy one of those sarngas / mailbreakers for 3 million.

i have my doubts. and i think that's partly why people are apparantly investing in gear/materia so much i get the feeling it's a case of my 100k will only be 10k in 2.0 but my 100k materia will still be 100k...... or at least thats the belief

If they use separate economic policies for new servers compared to old it will be fine
but they dont have an economist

At first people will try to sell for close to what they were listing before. So that relic double meld will still probably be listed in the 20 mil range. 1 or 2 may sell, but overall, prices will slowly drop and rebalance.

Good things to invest your money in now would be any mats that are always in high demand, materia and decent double melds. You could probably sell them for higher then their 1/10th conversion at the start. Think about all hq mats... Not everyone is going to know where to mine/gather/fish/killxmob right of the start, so all those hq mats will be in biggest demand at the start if there are any new recipes.

The difference is that an individual cannot generate ten million gil in sixteen hours NPCing masks or crystals. Not even close. Not remotely close. This is an aberration and a very serious one.

Also, I ask in earnest; what gil sinks actually exist in XIV? NPC Repairs, which virtually no one uses, aside from being in desperate need if you're wiping continually at Garuda, and Dragonhead's NPC repair price is not a deterrent to your immediate desire for convenience. What else deletes gil in XIV's current structure? I can think of nothing.

Additionally, the destruction of equipment and materia takes said equipment and materia out of the economy, but does nothing to remove the gil. The gil has merely traded hands - it is neither created, nor destroyed, merely transferred from one individual to another.

While this may be true, it is unrelated to the problem of the creation of vast quantities of new currency in a very short period of time. This would be what is known as hyperinflation. o.O

Who the hell actually has time and patience to turn in 10mil worth of crystals a DAY!??? I bought about 10 mil worth (for about 10 mil; 'cause I'm after the achievement), and I've been spending ALL my game time buying and selling dawn drops, and I've been at it for like 3 days straight now, and I'm only up to 6mil again. This is HARDLY anything to worry about.

Not to mention that in 2.0 they'll be reducing all our gil by 90%. So your 10mil will only be 1mil come ARR.

I concede this point, with the caveat that it will occur after the decimation of the current Gil. The damage will already have been wrought upon current player reserves and the colossal oversight of Atomos Free Gil Giveaway Extravaganza will already have wreaked havoc upon the economy. *~*

Considering this Atomos thing will probably end in November, along with the world, all it's doing is giving current players yet more of an economic head start. Not only that, it's letting us finish off whatever Grand Company desires we might have. There will surely be plenty of gil sink in 2.0 to take the money back out of the economy. I'm looking forward to buying luxury land.
