When you're bored waiting for LS members to log on there is plenty of other content you can do your self that is actually productive, like crafting for example.

Or I can do what I usually do when waiting to do content, I can craft/gather/duo/trio some stuff with friends that doesn't include PvP.
It's not a hard concept to grasp that some people just plain don't care for PvP, but since you say those people are lying, I guess me choosing to walk to the store rather than taking my car would just be lying, right? I mean, we're not creatures of free choice or anything.
PvP is the strongest motivation for me to get good gears so i can beat scrubs. Scrubs, everywhere with full AF.
I bet you're Suki Manara. You seem like the stalker type with that Jbiebs pic.
Who are you to decide what's "productive?"
For one, there's almost certainly going to be some kind of reward for participation. for two, if they're having fun, what the hell else matters?
You're absolutely right, which is why those Some People can choose not to play PvP, and the other Some People can choose to play it.Quote:

Never played much of FFXI pvp,
I might dabble in this a bit if it's fun though. Party-based PVP could be interesting.
Never cared for PvP it's always unfair and always effects PvE in a bad way.
PvP= the man/woman with the biggest Macro Keyboard wins.
This is totally false. FFXI had PvP. It doesn't affect PvE at all, one iota, one micron. PvP and PvE are isolated systems and you don't have to participate in PvP if you don't want to and PvE does not change.
Also a load of crap.Quote:

Ballista failed on FFXI simply because the mindset of the JP and EN players were different. The JP's objective was to work together to win, and the EN players just wanted to plow through people solo and kill. Hopefully XIV comes out with multiple gametypes so people can play what they want to play.
When enough melees cry about how fast they get comboed to death by a black mage. They'll ask for a nerf to Thundara combo and they'll do it if enough people complain, and then black mage would be shit in PvE cause they got gimped.
It's happened in alot more MMOs than FFXI.
I didn't decide it was false, it's a fact that it's false. FFXI's PvP was a totally isolated system that had 100% zero impact on PvE functionality. All balance accommodations for PvP only applied while you were in PvP.Quote:

Step 1) sleep BLMQuote:

step 2) wail on him with WS combo
...
Step 3) profit!
Also, the battle system is changing a lot when 2.0 releases. You don't know that BLM isn't going to be affected by that at all.
That's a pretty definitive statement in regards to PvP. Both GW1 and Dragon Nest (to give an example) are games that separate how they balance PvP and PvE. We really don't have much insight on how Yoshi-P is planning on adding PvP to FFXIV aside from a few concept pieces in the pdf with regards to a Coliseum and some GC frontlines situation.
[update]: Also this.

If they keep doing major changes like that for PvP, you'll pretty much have no choice but to partake into PvP as PvE will slowly become a shell of itself after awhile, as we see happen in pretty much all MMOs with a good PvP system that also has PvE content. So the reason using XI as an example won't work is because they didn't make any generalize changes to the core game like they are with XIV. Other MMOs make a lot of balance changes purely because of PvP which usually has an adverse effect on PvE and it becomes Balance TugOWar for quite awhile until the devs says "Fuck it, we'll get rid of x so we don't need to keep balancing both systems."
This is why PvP tends to pull ahead of PvE in terms of balance.
So yes people will choose to do PvP if they want to or not, but will the developers continue to make sacrifices in the name of PvP balance?
you don't know what your on about. nobody manually enter's skills when you can sting Multiple skills together and activate them quicker. its a very serious issue in many PvP MMO's and leads to an unfair advantage those that dont setup macro's will loose a good percentage of the time.
Any change to the battle system that affects all content will have content balanced with those changes in mind.Quote:

There's a lot more to PvP than pressing your keys faster than the other person.Quote:

Yoshi-P is trying to create content for all crowd types to enjoy. Who is any one group to decide that their content of choice is "better" and must be prioritized over the others?
I don't know why pvp people have to be hated by everyone else when this isn't going to be an open world, PK type of system.
Will I bother to do PVP? Not in the usual sense, no. I have no desire to participate in combat PVP in a MMORPG and just hope they don't mess up PVE too much trying to accommodate it. One of the reasons I purchased this game was because of a lack of focus on this type of PVP.
Now PVP that includes some classic FF card games, some Gold Saucer type activities such as Chocobo racing, or something truly unique, then I will certainly be willing to give it a try. With this style of PVP, I am very interested in seeing what the dev team can come up with.
OPTIONAL CONTENT!! IT WON'T MESS WITH PVE! ISN'T THAT GREAT!?
Why not? PvP also add new spices into the game, especially on PvE-focused MMOs. But still, they should make the Colosseum later to be Room-based, just like in Dragon Nest, and not an instanced area where you cage every player in a deathmatch.
And yes, we can agree that open PK suck balls. End of story.
You people are assuming the PvP in FFXIV will work like any other game you have played. From the concepts we were shown it appeared to be a large scale battle type situation. I'm sure they'll have duels, but those are for kids who need to validate themselves. I'm hoping for more of a cooperative larger scale PvP with goals, such as protecting fellow NPC's from danger. Perhaps like hamlet have DoH/DoL jobs running around fortifying defense and debuffing enemies. That's the kind of PvP that would be appropriate for this playerbase in general, not e-peen contests.
As for balancing they can always change how certain spells/skills affect PC players. In Ballista for example you had extended melee range that outside of that event you did not. Spell/WS dmg vs. players could be scaled to a reasonable amount to correlate with the much lower HP we have than most mobs/NM's. These are not hard concepts, devs that could not figure this out in other games failed to plan accordingly and the game as a whole suffered for it.
PvP... depending what the rewards, etc are. Really there's only 1 person on my server I wanna PvP, lol...
I hate PvP in MMOs. Tbh, the only MMO that I liked PvP in was PWI. With that said, I won't be PvPing.
i´ll kill em all, wont be my focus but ill be happy taking down ppls :D
If it is like a game in large scale then yes (read: like FFXI's versions). If it is a dual system then no.
if pvp is anything like it was in DAoC and as fun as it was then sure but otherwise i dunno.
also i dunno how fun it will be as much as DAoC was, cuz in that game when ppl used rogue and walked up behind you while stealthed it was pretty awesome and funny XD.
It's not going to be dueling. it's going to be more like battlegrounds in WoW- special areas where pvp combat takes place. duels are lame, and while I can understand some people wanting them, if it was the only thing that was offered it wouldn't be worth adding. There would be no depth to it. I don't want just a deathmatch, either. It needs to be objective based to be really fun and have any sort of strategy involved.
Too add what Alhanelem about pvp. They will be having PvP only skills so it will have no effect on PvE.

Two PvP venues, Coliseum and Frontlines, to be released after version 2.0. Unique zones to be created so as not to affect non-participating players. Release of PvP-specific abilities, gear, and ranking.
Support for multi-party alliances for large-scale content to be released together with the above.
I haven't heard anything about new skills, but the fact does remain that these systems are going to be mostly isolated from eachother (I've heard things like the grand company leading in a PvP area will unlock things for people in that grand company (but everybody gets this whether they played in PvP or not- I like this idea, but with the way things are right now, odds are the immortal flames would always have it... Reminds me of Lastok on most servers in FFXI...)
I will most likely do as I did in FFXI, and PvP socially. Rankings and such mean little to me, so I'll do it for the fun of it.
Also, where was it stated that the TP change from 3000 to 1000 was a change for PvP?
