Hot takes, eh?
I don't mind botters grinding the most mind-numbingly boring things out there and sell them for cheap on the marketboard so I can focus on the fun parts of crafting instead of gathering clusters/crystals/shards.

Unsure if this is still a hot-take with the overbearing opinions on Dawntrail --- but I liked Stormblood. I really enjoyed the more-so down to earth, political repercussions of the Garlean Empire and their influence on normal people. It gave the Garlean Empire a bit more of a foreboding might.
The story is meh/ok-ish at best, nothing special, and the presentation and storytelling are absolutely awful and mind-numbing.
WOL is a boring, unidimensional character with hardly any real growth.
If everyone else in the fight is dead, any tanks trying to solo should die if they go 30 seconds without raising or finishing the fight.
There should be no 'oh just lemme finish this boss for the next 10 minutes while everyone else sits patiently on the floor' Your ability to survive that long should either be nerfed or the game should recognize when most players in the fight haven't been doing anything for minutes on end / have all been dead on the floor, and kill the tank.
No more carrying. IDC if it takes longer. Make wiping suck less if that's an issue.
ARR MSQ is better than DT. Sokens best tracks by quantity are all pre ShB. 95% of RPR weapons are gaudy. All ultimate weapons are ugly.
In the past, i wouldve claimed that ARR/HW jobs are better designed than jobs released from SB onwards.
Hah...
The dress andwaist longhair I'm definitely not wearing and that you can't even see does not affect you in the slightest, and you need to get over it.

I'll have to think of more stuff later.
1. Side content should be designed more aiming for different niches of players so there is something for every kind of player not literally that every side content should be for everyone.
2. Based on watching first-time players reaction to the monetarists' storyline towards the end of ARR players who are incapable of understanding the bare basics of how politics work, who mistake 'bad writing' for 'i don't know the first thing about international relations or games of power', are to blame for how Disney-fied the writing gets after Heavensward.
3. Relics in their "current" latest step should match the highest item level while taking significantly longer than reaching that weapon item level through savage raiding. That way relics become the BiS weapon for players who *don't want to* or *can't* raid but enjoy the time committed grind that relic quests should be about.
What? Aren't you people always shouting how "prestige doesn't matter" in XIV, so who cares if savage isn't the only source of the top item level weapons?
And if that's not enough I have a hotter take:
4. With the existence of Duty Support and Trusts ensuring players never get stuck in long queues to progress, leveling dungeons as the main source of leveling exp shouldn't be a thing anymore. There should be more incentive to level in the field zones joining players in parties, and quests therefore should be giving 3x the amount of experience points they currently provide in Heavensward areas onwards.
My hot take is that the 2 minute meta is completely fine. For the 2 min haters, you really think the gameplay will magically improve when you press your burst every 90s instead? You're still pressing things on cooldown!
The MSQ still has a load of chaff that can be pruned to make getting through it more streamlined. In every expansion there's ample amounts of time wasting that can be cut down on and the fact that large swathes have neither voice acting or gameplay mean new players just zone out by the time things start up again.
Female Viera got the short end of the stick, because their hairstyles are too 'nice' looking, rather than feral or long, like Fran's. Even the shorter ones, the xiv team had references from xii-like Mjrn's hair or Jote's and the concept art of Viera, but didn't use them. The xiv team didn't even bother to give viera the ears from xii-and should've, to save time into making the race look better than they currently do.
Gonna go one step further. Male Viera also got the short end of the stick. Instead of feral lone guardians they look like they are about to pass out from not eating anything with substance and just don't fit the vibe they are supposed to at all. Every time SE has tried to give us 'feral' they've fallen so far from the mark. *looks at Au Ra concept art* ah... what could have been...
The high point of this game was Endwalker 6.0. It's all downhill from here unless Yoshi-P gets the Tanaka treatment. When Tanaka got pulled from FFXI, it brought some fresh life back to that game. XIV needs a new perspective because it has stagnated horribly.
I thought of another one:
Hardcore raiders truly don't realize how good they have it compared to everyone else.
Mine
1: some side story characters should play a role in msq either at the time of expac or in future. Its not SE's problem you don't do side content.
2: lock roulettes like how expert works, didnt do any ally raid since CT? Fine no roulette for you.
3: fuck off with copy paste gear with recolours and in some cases undyable sets. Nothing else makes me dryer than the sahara desert than that.
4: uncapped the gil trading, if i wanna send 20 mil to my sugar baby, let me do it.
5: make the MB like an auction system, removes under cutting problem. I believe something similar to how WOW does it.
6: gearing only matters to world first, therefore remove gearing weekly after its cleared.
I have more but thats my top 6
I was going to do another hot take post about 2 min meta being a mistake but someone else beat me to it... then I saw someone saying that 2 minute meta is fine... and that is indeed the hottest garbage take I have seen and there's not a whole lot of other hot takes that could top that... but then again I also feel like that particular "hot take" was actually bait...
So instead, here's another hot take, removing evasion and parry counter tanking from Dark Knight was a mistake and evasion and parry counter tanking made Dark Knight so much more unique than what we have right now, and what we have right now should just been simple additions to the job...
More or less this. The main adjustment I'd make as a regen healer main is a request for more healing rather than mitting/shielding. The only fun in this game for a healer is when a normal duty is going completely sideways or an extreme with minor mistakes, if everyone is doing mechs properly then no fun for you and in savage if someone dies at the wrong time that's a wipe and no fun for you. So I guess hot take for the thread is "healers should have fun".
I feel this thread has derailed. It's supposed to be Hot Takes, not Problems everyone knows exist and agree need to be addressed.
You seem to be proof that it's a hot take.
The idea of the post is to post things that you wouldn't post elsewhere due to the backlash you'd get. Your most selfish thoughts that only consider you and what you want.
I probably wouldn't say this in other posts, because normally I consider others. But OP wanted hot takes. I don't think we're meant to actually debate them here; that would need a dedicated thread.
In any case, there isn't much else for me to say: I can do any high-end stuff, but I only need up to Extreme to satisfy me, so I don't see the point in the higher difficulties being made needlessly more annoying to form parties due to being endlessly less puggable by the average playerbase. It stems from the fact I have no DNA for being competitive so the only thing I get out of higher difficulties is the social aspects - social participation, hanging out, completionism. I also don't have all these conditions that make people want things to be faster like I think ADHD seems to. And the social aspect is better if more people can participate as opposed to the participation getting increasingly thin as they make it more difficult to commit to.
Yeah, I guess I was just expecting something different from the thread.
This is a hot take. A large portion of the player would disagree, and you could have a debate about it.
This is just a statement of fact that I don't think a single FFXIV player would disagree with, and it's not a hot take:
If it's just another "List your Issues with XIV" thread, then it's just not as interesting imho.
Oh here's another one I forgot.
5. With a handful of exceptions, non-race-specific hairstyles look like atrocious wigs in any Hrothgar. The race would be more aesthetically cohesive if they kept adding unique hairstyles instead of just giving them styles that look stupid in beastly heads.
Alright, hot takes?
- I like the frantic pace of Occult Crescent, a lot, if I need downtime, I can make downtime, by exerting my free will and electing to not go to any given FATE or CE, or even several in a row if I need to, the pace alone makes it the best Field Operation for me.
- This one is very broad, but, MMO players in general focus too much on the benefit of playing a game instead of playing the game because the game is fun, a lot of really fun content "dies"(that is, becomes niche for dedicated communities) because of this obsession with getting "value" out of your time, when that should be at best a secondary concern.
- Limited Jobs are great and the only problem with them is how limited they are, they should keep up with the normal level cap, and be allowed in all content except random matchmaking, PvP, and everything that is at present in the High-End tab.
- Viper is the best addition to the game job-wise.
After you are done with all the savage fights by X.4, you get one more fight that tops all the others in form of an Ultimate by the end of the Expansion.
There should only be one ultimate per expansion and it should always be in the X.5 patch.
Is that hot take enough?
Oh yeah, some people would lose their minds if they didn't get their 2 Ultimates.
Yeeessss, now we're getting spicy

-I think Endwalker has one of the worst stories of the game. :X
-I really like the music in Tuliyollal.
-All skills should be available to you when you sync to lower levels.
-Current content should not be locked behind the full MSQ. Make jumping off points for each expansion, toss in some quests that will directly unlock specific raids/trials/etc, and call it a day. It's getting more egregious with every expansion and I imagine a lot of people struggle to get friends into the game/keep them playing due to the MSQ alone.
Here's a bunch of mine:
- The overworld zones are too small, by a factor of at least three in terms of distances between points of interest.
- Flying should have severe downsides, making it the best movement type only about half of the time.
- Many instanced areas with low utilisation - Frontlines, Chocobo Racing - should happen in the overworld, in sight of other players who are in the zone.
- You should be able to queue into Frontlines as a Free Company, with optional mercenaries (players of NPCs), for FC fame and rewards if you win.
- Balance can go die in a fire if it gets in the way of fun, player-driven shenanigans.
Basically everything people complain about in Dawntrail was present in Endwalker or sooner.
Oh oh, I have another one.
- It's good that NPC cosplays, of any kind, go to the cash shop, they do not belong in the game world, even less so than the futuristic neon outfits that people love to bitch about so much, and it makes it marginally less likely someone will be wearing them, NPC cosplays that are available through gameplay means are a gargantuan blemish.
- The above is only the next best alternative, the ideal scenario would be for those NPC cosplays to not exist at all.
- Hrothgar and Viera was a waste of resources and effort that should went into expanding and adding to character creation options.
- The Trust system was a mistake and has greatly dumb down dungeon difficulty and creativity so Official XIV-Bot's can do it.
- Limited Job's are a waste of potential and resources.
- Ultimate are a waste of time and resources.
- Summoner has been gutted and stripped to a brain dead state, and should of stayed a pet class.
- Yoshi.P should, in fact, step down.
- ARR and HW had the best Relic Quests.
- Housing is an absolute failure of a system and feature.
They should remove submarines from fc housing. It just destroys the housing market n ppl who actually want houses cant really get it. Also remove the amount of bids per fc member.. just make an fc =1 bid no matter the size of the fc.
Oh I have another one. Class design always sucked because they were trying to copy WoW too hard and left no room for actual innovation and design.
- They should just drop all pretenses of a MMO and a RPG and turn this game into an Action Boss Raid Simulator since it seems to be the only quality content left they're able/willing to do.
- All old systems are left to rot because it's better to have something shinier to dazzle the players than actually fixing and adding on to match current content. Next expac all 7.0-.5 systems will be thrown in the dumpster with the rest.
- They overly rely on other FF franchises to put into their MSQ cuz it hasn't been able to stand on its own for a while.
- The 292 incident still haunts both the devs and community to this day.
- The job system and current role trinity are at odds with eachother and they need to revisit the way they handle roles.
Ok this is gonna make carighan mad but I think the trinity system should just die. Im tired of being told healers should heal. Everyone saying that, in my opinion is a dastard who is responsible for healers being changed from awesome green dps who heal really good when needed to this brainless slop of glare dia spam. You guys got scholar completely gutted going into 5.0. I won't forgive you.
If the game isn't gonna teach players how to play their job then healing requirements going up in casual content is gonna make dungeoning miserable because there are tooo many healers confidently incorrect on how they are playing their job while using cure 1 and physick at level 100 content.
Just make the game like bozja let anyone fill the healer tank or dps role regardless of job. Restrictive design is shit. Healers do heal in ex+ content. You just wanna be heal bots who ego trip over controlling others lives and fun. Eat this chad clemency chud
Green icon, robe wearing piece of garbage.
