I never play FF XI, but I heard it is like this right? can you elaborate what the possibilities in ARR with this kind of battle system(comparing to the current one)?

wait,it is more similar to Stamina bar system? lol

:'D I R A HAPPEH ELEZEN.
I suppose a Dragoon could still pop a Doomspike right off the bat, then an Invigorate to regen TP over the course of the battle(s) *shrug*
All joking aside, with a few small differences, TP == Stamina. It always has. There are only two differences, TP started from the bottom, Stamina started from the top; and certain abilities increased TP faster than normal (which could easily be replicated with stamina), while Stamina in it's original form was pretty much static.
Yeah.. All this talk about combat system overhauls has me worried again.. Everything was looking up and they drop this bomb.. The current combo system is perfect, it needs to be expanded, but functionally its prefect. Combat is a little slow for some people, but it is more tactical than any other game.
This article has me worried that this game is going to become a WoW style, click as many skills with your mouse as fast as possible kind of game. The worst kind of game...
I think they will balance it out, if I recall, one full tp bar will execute 5 WS, and it seems tp not regenerated in battle (CMIIW). So you must plan your battle(s) to get efficiency.
I honestly don't see what's wrong with executing moves faster, People wanted Animation locked removed, from what I know, the only way you can do that is if the actions were to be spammed. Also, you don't "Have" to spam them you can choose to hit the action wait for the whole thing to go off and do another.
This is the thing -- You don't have to spam it but given the ability to, people will just like people spam combos even if it's dangerous to setup, for example DRG it's pretty dangerous to combo with on some enemies if you don't know the timing ignoring animation locks.
There's nothing wrong with faster execution, however we have to see what the rest of the battle system is like to see just how much they went from current > new.
I really don't see why anyone is making any kind of a big deal about this. Nothing has been said in that article to suggest TP gain is any different than it was before, aside from starting with a full bar. All it says is TP fills as you fight, kind of exactly how it is right now. As you fight you get TP to execute moves. The ONLY difference I'm seeing here is that you start with a full bar and that's really not a big deal at all.
I dont care about the TP thing, I think the Stamina System was good. The problem was peoples ability to Click every single skill as fast as possible.
Animation lock is not your ability to Use one skill right after another, animation lock is your inability to move out of the way while in the middle of a Skill.
If you can click five skills in a row and immediately use all five skills, there will be no tactical combat, it will just be spam. Combos will be useless and god knows PvP will be unplayable.
I think this will go a long way to address the biggest problem I have with the current battle system where it's mostly just melee sitting around while BLMs nuke the hell out of everything because they don't have to build up their primary damage resource.
This would be yet another example of "Just because you can doesn't mean you should". Sure you might be able to spam skills without a tactical thought but it's probably not a good idea. Until we get a gameplay video showing a player fighting tough enemies being rewarded by just spamming skills with no thought, your fears are unfounded.
I'm not saying it can't work. I'm just saying, I get worried when people try to fix things that are not broken.
That combat looked incredibly fluid, much like what this game should have been like at launch. So long as they keep the combo system working as it already does, I have almost nothing to complain about in terms of combat for this game.
You know SE is going to do the battle system right...they have in all the FF's (yea even 1.0)...they aren't stupid an it won't be a spam fest with no strategy. No need for panic... The game is in good hands now.
And if people are smart they won't unload all their TP at the start or else your tank will /murder you and you will be shunned as a noob :p
Don't worry peeps... It'll be just fine.
yeah they did combat right in 1.0... yet they have re-done it 3 times already, and one more is coming.
Yup sounds legit.
Tho! The combat looks way better in that video that currently, they are making progress in the right way.
3x? I only remember 1 major overhaul by switching the broken regiments to combo system...(not talkin about mp refresh) I honestly think the combo system was awesome. Starting with Full TP in 2.0 is gonna be amazing and def add a new twist on how to approach a mob and deal with it without being a moron and Zerging it and making hate bounce and then complain why you wiped ;)
As far as mages being in same level with DD well I don't think that will be even remotely close...they still are magrs and stl have a role....even starting at Full MP doesn't change a thing...it's all gonna come down to hate management and you are still gonna have to know how to play your role.
I'm assuming TP an MP generation will remain the same as they are now (unless I missed them stating otherwise, if that's the case then my bad...too much info ATM :p)
I like the idea of starting a fight with the TP bar full. It removes the one thing I hate about playing a melee class: waiting for the TP bar to fill before I can do a single thing. When I do have a lot of TP in a melee class, I enjoy it. But the current system makes me stay away from them for the most part. (I do have a 17/18 Gladiator, though.)
Played since beta...I know you had regiments...then nothing and having to touch an Aetheryte to regain stuff to mana refresh then combo system...I'm not attacking anyone I'm saying they know what they are doing...they F'd up with regiments and gave us combo system. They, at this point, know what to implement and what not to...
hey hey...remember that bar called "Stamina" ?
The current stuff they showed for 2.0 look very good indeed, but you can't say battle has been fine since 1.0 since it was terrible. And you're only talking about regiments and combos which is small stuff. Did you forget that at first we had:
- 3 little stamina bars that filled with time
- then 1 huge stamina bar
- no auto-attack
- almost completely different abilities/spell sets
And that's only the stuff from the top of my head. The battle in 1.0 was changed many times before they got to a decent thing we have now.
Ohhhhhh snap, I DID forget about that one ;)
Meh, either way, I'm just saying at this point with all the good changes and things we've seen I have a lot of faith in 2.0. I truly believe they will do it justice^^
I wonder how the battle system will compare to GW2 (not that I played that though, it just many people anticipated for GW2)
It does not compare..... as far as from what it is shown in the video... nope, the only thing is that FFVII ripoff limitbreak thingy, wish again, unless seen in a proper fight, who knows how good or broken it will be
sweeeet more animation lag
I think being able to use weapon-skills right away is fine. I mean you could do it in other FF games that had skill-based attacks. Only they would cost MP as there was no TP.
