Can Morbols jump?
Actually I know about this quite well because I got knocked out of BoE and into a hole in the world before while fighting regular enemies like Hippogryphs and the Buffalo mobs -- It's the first thing I noticed compared to being knock backed in FFXI. When they said glitchy they were referring to the animation itself which at the time, it likely was returning a glitchy animation.
This was his words, not mine -- Obviously they got around it but the reason that it wasn't confirmed at first was because of the engine they personally used with FFXIV -- Just look at FFXIII and XIII-2, the jumping with chocobos was very off at times to the point you wonder wtf is going on.Quote:
Q: Can chocobo jump as well?
A:Yoshida: For that my comment will be different (laugh) When chocobo is landing it requires lots of animation so when you jump with it, it’s going to look funny so I’m saying I don’t want it but for those playing foreign MMO they are saying they want to fly while riding chocobo! even if it has cartoon taste and deformed characters but with XIV’s realistic graphics it might not be right. Of course it’s possible to make it fly technically.
So yes, MMO A and B does it but that doesn't mean XIV was able to do it and Yoshida explained why it wasn't possible. however they got around it and if you look at the demonstration you can tell they still have some tweaking to do with it.
I support invisible walls on high cliffs, and this is why:

I concur. It's always great to make super high jumps once in a while.
And, as I said previously in another thread, high cliff could be used in battle to knock monsters down to their death ...or the players. Too bad we'll have invisible walls. :S
I suspect these damned invisible walls are also going to hinder exploration somehow...
But! We got jumping!! I'm so happy about it! Maybe the invisible walls will gradually disappear too someday (3.0)?
Well, since we are super adventurers and all, I can see how we would be able to fall safely from a high cliff. However, much higher cliffs would bring our doom, making exploration and combat much more strategic than simply standing anywhere and mashing actions.
Being able to be knocked off a ledge would make an interesting battle mechanic.
Turned out it was possible though... what's your point exactly?
FFXIV has jump, FFXIV has animations. So it stands to reason it was never impossible to have jumping animations. Don't blame me because you believe everything Yoshi tells you.
Um no.
This thread has gotten...strange. Btw I find it ridiculous to compare WoW to Final Fantasy. The two are entirely different, from graphics to overall presentation. WoW's lets you jump off super high cliffs because its a cartoon. FFXIV is not a cartoon, but leans more towards realism. As a result, allowing you to jump off a high cliff would be highly immersion breaking, since it would not make any damn sense in that world. It's like Yoshi said, it would kill you.
since were "jumping" topics here.. WHA????
battle mechanics and crafting..... how do those 2 have any relevance in his opinion on playing? if anything, you should refer to his join date, not his "crafting" job thats going to affect his battle. lol
im just stumped
but as to the jumping off a cliff, hey, it will relieve my stress from the terrible grass, right :p
Actually it's an MMO, but ok. I guess graphics are the leading thing that determines if something is realistic or not eh? Fight dragons? Realistic. Cast magic? Realistic. Get hurt when you fall? WTF that's not realistic AT ALL! I prefer to be able to fall from as high as I damn well please without taking any damage, because I prefer my games realistic.
Isnt having jump added enough for you jump lovers, you want ffxwow, go fcking back to wow cliffs and jump of them, or dual ffxiv and wow, that way you can jump of cliffs and die.
I personally think they dont want to allow our characters to die, as it is we get knocked out but never die. Maybe that is where the idea of realism comes into play.
They always were immersion breaking and they still will be in ARR.
While I really want to be able to move freely I also understand Yoshida's thoughts and why we won't get jumps from high places.
But I wished we at least wouldn't have invisible walls but something like what chocobos do at the town entrance - they "see" where you are going, remember they are not allowed in town so the stop and walk a few steps backwards.
Very intelligent birdies :o
I wished my character was this intelligent in front of a 80 Yalm cliff as well instead of running against an invisible wall for minutes or hours. That would at least be a way more beautiful way to implement the "you are not allowed to die here".
What are you talking about? Its not just graphics, but overall presentation. WoW is a cartoony universe. What about that is so hard to understand? Just look at the bloody surroundings, how things are modeled, the animation, the textures. All of that screams cartoony.
And really you are acting like a buffoon. Realism does not imply everything has to be true to life. On the contrary, you can have a universe that is entirely different than our own, but still be realistic from our point of view. For instance I can have a world where Dinosaurs are roaming around, dragons fly through the air, and particles of magic exist, but gravity still applies..just like our world. Everything superhuman would require an explanation, like a spell to increase speed or a potion that gives humans the ability to fly. There are varying degrees of realism in every facet of fantasy so please don't make such inane arguments.
I would prefer more freedom even dying from a cliff than having invisble walls... ;)
you forgot to say "Shove your loved one off a cliff for being mean to you in a dungeon run"
I think the realism Yoshi is talking about is the graphical realism. Judging by the way our character's move and live, Eorzea's gravity seems to be pretty much the same as the real worlds.
Therefore a character would die if he jumped down a high cliff, but with the graphical level FFXIV is at, a bloody mess would have to be at the bottom of that cliff.
And I doubt SE wants to lose the rating for 12 year olds and get a mature rating instead..^^°
So it's easier to just not allow us to jump down.
So many people who want to comit suicide ingame "i want to jump off a cliff" tztz* where did our society went
:D
I'm sure there's only one race of Chocobo, I don't see why they have to be scaled to fit the size of every character. Shouldn't they all be the same size?? You think that's very realistic? To see a Lalafel on a normal sized chocobo wouldn't break any hearts, only have me cry of laughter, lol! Or a Rogue with his/her own chocobo carrage! Super funny!
I wouldn't say "fear', I'd use more the term "respect" and "be aware" of your surroundings.
Seeing how accessible the world has gotten since BETA release, I'd say there's NOTHING to fear (or respect) from the world of Eorzea! The use of jump can have so many uses and functions, I just think the creativity in the DEV or good leadership of the producer isn't there. Give us the option to jump off cliffs or into deep waters! If we're not careful or suicidal, so what, there's no exp panalty and no one cares about the FFxiv environment. The worse thing that would happen is, our gear would suffer 50~100% dmg.
Consider you have all your classes to 50 and it would be hard enough for you to death-warp from a mob to your HP because you don't have/ or want to use anima. It's your choice to "jump off a cliff/ drown yourself" man! "death warp"!
Hell no! No jump piles or moss around me! No thanks!
It makes sense for Chocobo's to jump (and I like that!) with their wings flaping and trying to fly,lol but I see no sense for Gobbues to do anything.... (maybe attack and frail their arms at aggressive mobs, though they don't do that either) Gobbues GTFO!
That would be so rediculous, so I hope not. I'm also fed-up for their lack of usefulness.
Here's also a good idea: Fish food! LOL!
SE could also combine /sit + /fish (you only have a standing animation when you catch something)
See, nothing should be imposible! Take away the invisible walls and "glass-ceilings" (see what I did there)
