FFXI is still active, both on private servers and retail. The market for a game in that fashion isn't going to do gangbusters, but it would certainly be a cult hit.

And when they finally did release "Classic," it wasn't their 1.0, but the end-patch version, and didn't those servers then start re-progressing through the different expansions? There also wasn't such a core design shift in WoW that would compare to 1.0 vs. 2.0 in FFXIV.
As someone who actually played from 1.0's launch to now... no it is not. I get it. DT at launch has been mid, but it's not the worst thing written in history. Stop exaggerating to order to continue to feed into the hatred. Dawntrail's story felt like it was written by inexperienced people. It feels as superficial and repetitive as ARR did. That's my opinion on it.
There's plenty to salvage from it. They can actually put stuff in the zones, the MSQ doesn't have to keep the 5 level restrictions anymore and can be condensed so that they aren't filler so long as the story still connects and makes sense, and some of these zones are currently blocked off in the game. Working on them for the living memory means we could regain access to them in the main world where they could actually develop them and make use of them.
Limsa is a prime example, develop some of those areas into a Separate Pirate city, one not under the control of the Admiral, but instead a Lawless location. Same with Gridania make it like a gathering place for Poachers and Bandits.
With this idea we wouldn't even have to isolate ourselves to those areas either, we could travel to Ishgard or Garlemald and see the areas before all the snow and ice. Before the destruction.

Did you know Y'shtola used to be Neo from The Matrix?

Sorry I didn't see your message. x.x
I actually don't remember what the final 1.x patch was. I thought we were just generally referring to the whole thing as 1.0. As for the Classic situation, they started releasing Servers for their pervious expansion, however they actually did keep the classic servers around last I checked. I'm at work so I can't confirm that, but I recall they were still up. They also went and released the Hardcore Classic servers which are an Ironman version of Classic, and Season of Discovery Servers which are Classic+ Servers where they added in some more experimental stuff to Classic.
Naw that's not her being Neo, that's just Physics. Everyone knows bullets can't touch Waifu material instead they bend around the Waifu as to not harm her, it's science and stuff.
1.0 felt like FFXI, except broken.
I hope everyone making those doomer posts realize this is how ridiculous they look lol
I can't. Nothing of note was mentioned since the release. x.05 (raid) patch is currently out. Nothing new was mentioned besides pve class updates like viper. I'm still waiting on the x.1 (pvp) patch. I'm not sure if we're getting only class updates or if pvp is going through yet another calamity. But yeah, no new ideas.
Regardless, there are possibly a few improvements here and there depending on how you view the changes. Story felt unbearable to go through imo. Trials are extremely fun. Don't exactly see the reason why the expansion should be rated the lowest, especially if they're already talking about 8.0. Give them a chance. Most of us knew they were tripling down before DT came out. God knows how much needs to be polish right now.
Still, 1.0 does pique my curiosity. I've never knew that Aurum Vale was originally an 8-player dungeon. In fact, that's the first time I've heard of an 8-player dungeon existing outside the 2 dungeons at the end of ARR that got adjusted last expansion.
If you do that there is nothing left from 1.0, and we call it "2.0".
FFXI is not FFXIV 1.0.
FFXI is an old school mmorpg, FFXIV 1.0 was a game without rhyme or reason.
If you want to try something that bad, Steam is plenty of scam mmorpg: Pick one, enjoy the download and then spam insults and complain in its forum.
Kinda this.
Like, back in the day I loved me some Megaman/castlevania 2D. I played every NES release. I’d still be buying new megaman/castlevania games if they kept them going more regularly, but they don’t. I’m fine with similar games like Ori or Hollowknight. Even Cuphead. But ultimately, if I pick up a megaman game, I’m not expecting it to be, say, Bayonetta.
Same deal here. It’s supposed to be basically the same thing because that’s what we want. You can tweak and add some new bits and bobs, but if you suddenly made this a completely different game, you might lose people (See FF11 25 years ago vs. now).
So, if I wanna play some other game, I’ll play that game. If I wanna play a pretty chill theme-park of a game with friends, this is where I’ll be.
This is something I wish they would consider bringing back as a “do with friends, not available in the Duty Finder” kinda thing.
The problem is the old school dungeons were much more open-mapped, which meant a bit of a s##tshow with new players. Imagine trying to jump into one of the Faux Hollows without ever ever doing actual EX or Savage before where people expect you to know what to do/where to go.
Good idea, big sprawling dungeons…but hard to execute with random pugs. Wish they would take a page from
FF11’s dungeons.
What many people fail to understand that DT is the basis of 10 years of future updates with wuk lamat as the main character... If this is the change with innovation proclaimed by Yoship, it means SE has completely lost the will to create new content. The 1.0 was you can say what you want,it was broken not functional,ok that's true, but it had content. With DT it feels like playing a loading simulator because of how many times the game loads during even a short dialogue. is this the evolution after 13 years of development?
The dialogues are poorly written, worse than my grammar.
Unfortunately, some people on the forum focus more on my grammatical error than on disproving me by getting me a list of new things brought with the release of DT that were not already seen in the previous 3 dlcs.
Bait used to be believable.
What can I say, play it or don’t play it. I’m not gonna tell you what to do with your free time.
It’s not like you owe SE some weird loyalty if you don’t like the direction the game is moving. I’m kinda on the fence myself in that I might time out my sub until just before the next expac because I genuinely just haven’t been playing this as much as I used to and real world economy sucks.
Not the fault of the game, just it’s been 10 years and I’ve basically done everything there is that I wanna do.
So at the end of the day you do you.
I played 1.0, it was way worse than dawntrail.
Worse than ARR id say.
Hyperbole isn't going to help anyone's argument. 1.0 was actually unplayable at launch, not "Unplayable to me because I don't like the story".
is DT worse than 1.0... I don't think you can compare an unfinished game and an expansion. on the other hand, both have turned out to be disasters.
from 1.0 to the end, i remember:
- dungeons where you could wipe
- challenges where you could wipe
- a scenario, with charismatic characters,
- overall, better graphics.
DT was supposed to sell dreams, graphic improvements, a new arc....
in the end, redundancy in structure, a levelling down, etc... an extension of crass indigence.
And yet I love this game, but I'm sad and bitter to see it go under.
FFXIV has been on a downward spiral since stormblood... DT will be the coup de grace. The beast is dying.
You probably don't want to hear this, but maybe this game is pandering to other player's needs other than your own. I mean, after all true endgame is glamour. All you can do is push for certain changes that you want and hope that the crowd is big enough to where SE delivers. I mean, that seems to be the meta: complain until you get the changes that you want, no matter how long it takes.
Yes, our attention was stolen (lol). Wuk Lamat became the main character instead of us. Also, a new arc was started. I'm not expecting for the story to be S+ tier right now. However, I think I might know what the devs are planning in 8.0 and beyond based on this expansion's main scenario...although I think they're making a huge gamble testing everyone's patience with what was offered now.
Probably should have kept things simple. Just don't become another Emet.
Tell me you never played 1.0 without telling me you never played 1.0 - The post.
1.0 had no real story, sound track was okay, the jobs sucked hard, combat took the worst things from FFXI and WoW, travel was terrible, end game did not exist, good luck buying anything in the player NPC retainer market, hell good luck using the atrocious UI, and that's if you could get the game running well / stable.
That's just some of the issues with 1.0. Not even remotely close to all of them. It was arguably a worse release than Cyberpunk's original release.
Also, to the guy who said "better graphics", sure at the cost of the game running at all in a stable way. That was 1.0's worst aspect. Go back and watch any old review. The barrels had more to them than the player models did. It was a mess.
No one will take you seriously with feedback like this. It is exaggerated in the worst way possible, offers nothing productive to work off of in order to discern what you actually are upset with, and the things you're saying are "worse than 1.0" such as raids did not exist at all in 1.0. The first dungeon did not even exist at all until 1.18, about 11 months after release.
bait used to be believable
With 1.0 it was essentially ff11 version 2.0 but instead of taking the best aspects of ff11 and improving on them they took the worst aspects of 11 and somehow made the worst aspects even worse. I do wish I could have tried 1.0 at release but at the same time seeing how incomplete and empty it looked and having no content at launch at the same time I'm glad I didn't play it back then.
the quality of texture rendering was much better in version 1.0. it wasn't the graphics that made FFXIV 1.0 unstable, but rather the calamitous coding, scripting overloads and poor asset optimization that overloaded servers and processors, causing high latency and slowing down in-game actions.
even with the DT upgrade, the textures are still disgusting, especially in cut scenes.
Indeed, it wasn't until 1.19 that we had anything substantial to say about the game: dungeons, bosses and quests.
dungeons, boss in 1.0 offered a challenge, for example, a bad pull could lead to catastrophe.
the level of difficulty was comparable to today's extremes.
with each successive extension, it's been simplification upon simplification, impoverished storytelling, etc....
I still say that DT is going to be the gravedigger of FFXIV, the coup de grace.
