Wouldn't even need to adapt it for all the races. They could just ignore Horthgar and Viera like they do with everything else from the neck up.

I've avoided 99% of all FFXVI related content. I don't think it's really feasible to entirely avoid spoilers during a cross over event like this if you want there to be some interesting narrative cohesion for the people taking part in said cross over.
That being said, if you're like me and enjoy jumping into a story entirely blind, skip most of the dialogue for this cross over. I'm sure people will say 'but uh it's not really a spoiluh because it's just one small thing' but those people can eat a used sock. Spoilers are spoilers are spoilers.
The event awards are pretty slick, though I somehow can't imagine Clive's outfit fitting a lot of our character models particularly well.
i was incredibly displeased by the fact that i was unable to do the instance on blue mage. one of my most fond memories of starting way back when in mid-late stormblood was doing the XV instance versus garuda while on blue mage. worse yet when i went in on reaper i was synced down to 50. otherwise it was a pleasant little questline, it felt kinda funny just running around with the minstrel (not in a bad way).
Torgal as a mount feels wrong. It's Clive's pet, not a mount. Ambrosia should be the mount and there should be 2 Torgal minions, cub and adult.
The Torgal we meet isn't actually Torgal if you read the quest. Torgal is actually in his own world. If it feels so wrong then just don't use it.
Anyway loved the event. May even play 16 again but probably will still wait on the last DLC. Nice selection of rewards and I enjoyed the story. Fight was fun and kept me on my toes enough as DNC where I had to do mechanics.
I really liked the event and I REALLY hope solo instances in DT are as cool as this one. Only real complaint is that my hair massively clips through the chestpiece, which isn't anything new nor unexpected but I am disappointed that us longhairchads are once again seething and shorthaircels stay winning.
Some of the quest was drawn out a little long, but the instance was really fun. As someone who played 16, it felt intuitive, and gave me the real feeling of playing both games at the same time.
The rewards are really good. The outfit looks really good on male viera. The mount is very detailed. I think a lot of this event was put together with the graphics update in mind? Its not complete obviously, but it was like... a sneak peek.
My only complaint is the 20 seconds of "Sixteen bells" being cut from the "To Sail Forbidden Seas" orchestrion roll which kind of doesn't transition well without it.
(Am referring to the timestamp 2:16 - 2:36, if you have heard it before on YouTube)
I really enjoyed the boss battle, kinda disappointed they didn't do more with the overall event though. The XV event felt a lot more satisfying. We did a Fate, we searched for some stray enemies, which turned out to be a Daemon, we got a nice bonding moment with Noctis and then we had the finale with Garuda.
With Clive we just move from quest to quest, with barely any cutscenes, would have loved to see Clive's reaction to bording an Airship, and then we fight Ifrit and the Event is basically over.
A lot of people seemed to like it, but I actually found it disappointing. The 15 event gave us more quest, a FATE, a mini boss battle, and then the big boss battle; this gave us the weird minstrel, a bit of talking, and then a boss battle. Even the rewards were skewed more in favor of 15 with the hair.
I mean, I get the intention behind not wanting to spoil things, but if you're going to do a crossover event, you need to *do it* - if spoiling is a concern, then SE honestly should just have not done the event yet.
I'm poor and behind on a lot of the games (haven't even played 13, not to mention 15 or 16), but I have to accept that after a certain amount of time, "spoiling" isn't a thing anymore. If I haven't played it, but decide to do the event anyway, that's on me. It's how I walked into the 15 event, and how I walked into this one.
I'd have much preferred the event to have happened much later and actually have substance with it, then getting it as soon as possible but gutted.
I agree with that. They should have waited at least the PC release for that or leave the event permanently until some time after the PC release. Especially since FFXIV is mostly played on PC outside Japan, a spoil from a game I chose to not do is not a problem. A spoil from a game that I want to do and is still, to this day, not available to me is something different. (I could talk all day about how the PC release policy of SE is not to the benefits of their games, since they release them when only die hard fans still care. How many people were hyped by XVI and don't care anymore because of the mixed reviews. At least it's from a team that is used to produce pc games, there is hope that it won't be a Nier Automata/FFVII Remake/most of SE pc port case. But that's not the point here)
I haven't played FFXVI but I feel like the spoilers were unnecessarily specific. He could have just gone on about vengeance for something non-specific and then got back his memories and said he doesn't need to burden us with the details. Then he goes back to his world and the minstrel can give his "maybe you can learn the full story someday" speech.
For what we saw, it threw spoilers without the emotional weight to back them up, when they probably hit harder in their proper context.
Glamour-wise, the outfit is alright but fits rather oddly and really needs that second dye slot.
While the armour being attached to the pants is interesting, it would have been nice to also get an additional gear piece of the same gear design configured as long armoured boots.
Also, given that the game runs on the same engine as FFXIV, it seems like it should be quite straightforward to port over all of the character outfits. I don't know the game enough to give names, but I saw pictures of the characters and there are a few things there that I would like to get. Maybe it will pop up as gear in Dawntrail.
After doing a playthrough again I’ve kinda realised the actual content of the event was pretty bad outside the solo duty (which I am honestly shocked they managed to make feel so similar to 16’s fluid combat given 14’s engine) even if the rewards are fantastic
The WOL functionally did nothing and Clive had no real agency it was all basically the wandering minstrel magically figuring everything out for us
I get this was to avoid Clive lore dumping on us about valaesthia (like if Clive had his memories when we did the conversation about the aetheryte I probably would have gotten a whole 10 minute speech about bearers, the mothercrystals and the crystal accord) and that if someone didn’t figure it out it’s not like Clive ever would given how different valaesthia is but I at least wish the events played out a little more organically than what basically amounted to the minstrel doing everything for us (for example the events of the 15 collab felt like they played out organically and were on point with noctis, of course noctis hadn’t lost his memories but still)
Now I will say that Clive appearing on etheryis during the trip to the depths of pheonix gate (which is where Clive comes to the same realisation he does in the collab in actual 16) is actually fantastic because it functionally means the collab doesn’t remotely mess up 16’s lore because during the vision Clive could have travelled to etheryis. That is something I really appreciate I just kinda wish on my next playthrough of 16 when I get to that point I’m actually interested in remembering what happened in the collab which circling back to the original point beside the solo duty I’m kinda not
I doubt they will ever expand the collab even though 16 is CBU3’s own game but I would love when the PC port is released and the collab returns if they do more with it, imagine if you get caught up in Clive returning and get sent to an instance of valaesthia and you help the hideaway complete some taste before helping Clive fight a dominant to a standstill before being pulled back to etheryis. That would really get people talking. Right now the collab I don’t feel like really ropes you into 16 (besides Clive being hot AF but we all knew that already)
Ohno wait are the boots not like thigh high sabatons then? How do they work if the armours on the pants? Are they like office-shoe shaped but armoured? I've been too out of the loop playing Dragon's Dogma but this has kinda dropped my motivation to hop on and do the event sooner rather than later -_-
I've never looked into XVI at all, but I really enjoyed the event. It's pretty short, and most of it is just running (or being ported) around, but the fight was fun (went as DNC). And the mount is adorable. I also really enjoyed the music. I know FF titles are generally praised for their soundtracks, but XIV's music doesn't really do much for me, with some exceptions.
I'm actually semi-tempted to check it out when it comes to PC. :X Success!
As for Clive, he's looking all purdy with his visual upgrades and what not, HOWEVER, in several scenes the lower half of his face was looking kinda funky. I was having a hard time placing what it reminded me of, and then it dawned on me...
The hair/eyes are so detailed, and then the mouth and scruff look like someone got carried away with a blur tool. Thankfully this was only in certain lighting. And obviously it's nowhere near that bad, by a long shot, but it kept making me giggle once it was in my head.
The event was extremely meh.
My eyes glazed over and my brain instantly checked out due to the amnesia plot device.
The fight was terribly mediocre. First go was on my tank character and the duty actions didn't feel like anything special. After using the dodge for the dozenth time, I was already over the fight and wanted it to end. Second go was with my healer character, shouldn't need to explain how I felt that time... *cough*healer combat is trash*cough*. Maybe if I had a dps player's mindset where using a form of mitigation for the first time in their ffxiv career could be considered exciting and new, I guess.
FFXV's Garuda fight a lot more fun. Warping around the arena and syncing warp-strike was far more engaging.
Well for me personally it was only partly good. Didnt wanna pay to much attention to it since MOST OF THE PLAYERS DIDNT EVEN HAVE A CHANCE TO PLAY FFXVI because its not out on PC.
Knew there'd be spoilers, but I think the Joshua one is bigger than the Ifrit one. The latter was basically spelled out in the trailers.
The fight was fun but the story was absolutely nonsense. I'm sure it makes sense in context, but 90% of XIV's playerbase literally can't play the game so it's just weird. Dog mount is really cute as a lalafell. Roegadyn should be carrying the dog lmao
Yes, they're like the Viera starter gear – which is something I hope will combine well with them, but haven't had a chance to try out. Though until we get our second dye slot, it will be dependant on how well the metals match because neither one is dyeable.
I'm seeing people post some other neat combinations that merge well into the leg armour.
"Armoured office shoes" is a rather apt summary of the sollerets as a stand-alone piece, though.
I assume they do it when the particular shape of the armour doesn't comply well with any of the standard "break points" for foot gear to be applied over the legwear model.
Having only played the demo of XVI, the events was.....okay. It's following some dude around while he has angsts his way through some flashbacks and then beating up Beefy Ifrit. I don't particularly care about Clive; he's a pretty generic-looking MC, and his face looks really odd from some angles, like it's set a bit off on his head.
I like the minion, and the outfit's not bad. I'm sure I'll use the top, at least. The mount's scaling issues make him look weird for my main, although my min-height Au Ra fits a bit better.
I was kind of bummed about the unskippable cutscene spoiler. I was skipping all of the other scenes to avoid any information and I got it anyways lol. I know people say 'it was obvious' but apparently not obvious enough. I personally haven't seen the original trailer since 2022 so naturally I wouldn't have known or remembered.
disappointed that they ignored adding in a jill inspired outfit/hairstyle entirely.
This event felt kind of mediocre compared to the XV one honestly.
Run around being Clive's chaperone for a while, relive the "big reveal" from XVI via an extremely spongy solo duty that takes forever even when abusing the duty actions, then he just goes home with little fanfare.
Getting to actually have some meaningful interactions with Noctis made things more interesting and his send-off felt more satisfying since he actually felt like a friend by that point.
This was pretty much my exact same reaction and experience. Even as a mostly dps player, the action was too easy to utilize and did too much damage. The counter-attack damage did more than 3 GCDs worth of damage and there was nearly constantly an outing attack I could dodge. There was maybe only a single attack it didn’t work on? Or maybe my timing was off. In the fight it didn’t fell like I was killing Ifrit via my character/job I chose, but by spamming the dodge + counter attack.
The fun part of ffxiv fight design is looking at the arena, evaluating AoEs and finding the safe spot. Whether that’s moving AoEs or order of operations. The dodge mechanic (while excellent in a variety of genres) fell flat and ruined the combat. “Am I already standing in orange? Good, I don’t have to move, adjust or even look around at anything.”
Dodges work well in games when there’s some form of restriction. Either you can’t dodge like half the attacks and it’s up to the player to pay attention to tells, or you need a stamina bar or something to restrict excessive movement. The CD on the dodge was too short and it worked for too many attacks.
Unlikely they would have, considering they never put in one of Lunafreya's outfits
I am starting to notice, and this is true with the XVI glamour, that a lot of cloth tops for men have a lot of cleaveage showing. They are clearly designed to lace or button all the way up but they are left undone to show a lot of chest.
I loved it and wished it was longer. I also wish we could have gotten Tsukl Wo Miteita as a song in game but I understand the orchestrion licensing woes.
I would have loved Jill's costume too!

I don't love the entitlement of players who think that their personal finances should matter to the entire FF14 community and dev team.
Your inability to own/afford a PS5 and play a game that is almost a year old is not a reason for SE to hold back.
But even so, having played 16, it's clear to see they really held back a lot of amazing things they could have done with this crossover in consideration of keeping it prologue and this collab is lacking for it.
It feels too short and stunted given how dynamic the plot of 16 really is overall.
If you care about spoilers THAT much, to the point where you didn't even watch trailers or the media tour, you should not have even touched the collab.
Personal accountability matters.
Sure, most people could probably fit a PS5 into their yearly budget, and now they're actually being sold unlike early on in it's life... But why would most people want a PS5, there's barely anything to play there. I wouldn't buy a PS5 for just one or two games...
I do want to experience the story of 16 myself, by playing through the game. But I don't want what would essentially afterwards be a 500-600 € paperweight.
Assuming you're looking to start a new conversation: I'm just going to address your question since you took one line of my post out of context and didn't address the overall point made.
Personally, what you find valuable is 100% subjective and valid. You not wanting a "paperweight" for yourself is fine.

From a different perspective, I'm a long-term hardcore Final Fantasy fan, there is no way I'm NOT owning a PlayStation.
Final Fantasy are PlayStation games first and foremost.
If you've been around, you'll remember their attempts to release 13 and 15 at launch with Xbox and all the issues they had with both launches on Xbox alone.
For FF7 rebirth, there is an interview where the devs say how nice it is to only have to develop on the PS5 because they felt they could really focus on the experience and not worry about trying to make it work on all systems.
I own a PC, Xbox and a PS5, so I'm not even a console war junkie with a preference. I just know Playstation is the console with all my favorite JRPGs and personally that is incredibly important to me so I wouldn't be caught dead without one for a new Final Fantasy release. Same with Persona, that game is always coming to a playstation first.
If that's not the same view for you because most of the games you love are elsewhere, 100% valid and agreed. Nothing wrong with not spending the money if the value isn't there for you.

Linking back my original point:
So if you've made that decision for whatever reason, it still is insane for me to see people complaining about spoilers like the dev team has done something wrong.
We're not even going to talk about the fact the collab is so freaking mid because of all the considering they did put in to avoid spoilers. It's basically a marketing advertisement collab to get ready for the PC release rather than a good and true collab story. It doesn't even touch .5% of what FF16 is.
You may have not seen it but some people are even like "how dare you have an exclusivity deal with the company that has been a good partner to you for the last 25+ years, how dare you be a business first and want to sell consoles too".
The entitlement was what I was speaking to. People need to be accountable for the personal choices they are CHOOSING to make regardless of the valid reason for their personal circumstances.
If you are so spoiler sensitive, do not touch this collab until you can play the game. It will come back.
It's too short. Before you know it It's over. And since there's nothing repeatable to do, especially if you have the MGP It's a log in, then do the event, then log out and then unsubscribe affair.
