Let me start by saying agreed. There is so much fun that can be had with Blue outside of Carnivale. No reason not to focus on that.

As a separate from the above thing. I think there are a couple of things going on here.

Many people have the attitude that absolutely everything must be completable by every player. This is patently impossible. Each player's ability and interest is far to varied for any game to achieve that goal.

I also think there is a misunderstanding of Blue. So many people tout Blue as being the completely solo content. That draws in players who might not have the skills to do harder group content. In reality there are many skills in blue you cannot really get without assistance from other players. I know, I am a solo player and am missing most of those skills because I have no group of people to help me get them. The other solo related misconceptions is that because it is solo oriented it must be easy. Some of the Carnivale fights are not easy. They take time, they take patience and they take learning from mistakes. Not all players are willing to do this.

Finally some people just have a strongly completionist nature and it grates on them to an insane level when there is something they cannot complete. Hence we hear the calls for things must be changed to fit ME.

So although I disagree with the OP. I in some way understand where they are coming from. My attitude is either adapt and learn to do it or as you said enjoy the parts you can do with Blue.

It definitely seems more difficult at first than it really is. I've always been an idiot at understanding mechanics by myself. I waited a day or so for the first videos to hit youtube, then I was like oh duh I didn't know ultravibration worked here.

It would be easier to understand if it set your hotbar to the buttons you need for each duty automatically, like when you roleplay as alphinaud and it changes your bar to his stuff. I do also sympathize with people who can't clear and have their story progress blocked.

Oh woe is me, how dare I think "with" and "within" is the exact same thing. Aye you got me, maybe my understanding between these two words made me think they are the same thing. This has nothing to do with running to SE's defence for criticism, as there are countless threads and topics about what is wrong of the game which span tens or hundreds of pages, where they get rightfully bashed. Someone else complaining about having issues to clear content based on their skill and performance rather than disabilities and similar (colour blindness, epilepsy, etc.) and claiming the game is wrong for various things ranging from being hyperbolically overblown (frequency of oneshots, bad telegraphing, etc.) to "this is to be expected" (no checkpoints between Acts) is generally to be expected to be met with disagreement and occ. followed by what options they have and even offering advice.

1.) I can't look up what illegal plugin I am supposed to have a basic internet search for if I don't know what the plugin is about or even get a hint of the plugin's name to see the supposed download statistic.
2.) Correlation is not causation. A similarity in clear numbers compared to download numbers does not differentiate between "downloaded and cleared WITH IT", "downloaded but cleared WITHOUT USING IT", "downloaded and DIDN'T CLEAR" and "cleared and DIDN'T DOWNLOAD". Unless that plugin has a built-in backdoor keeping track of their users and fill out a 3rd party statistic about clear rates using it, which would be a completely different can of worms as that would be basically containing code equal of spyware and be met with a lot MORE criticism than just "it is cheating" because at that point it is a security issue.

The whole point of BLU is being non-standard on all levels, this includes the difficulty scaling. It is side content decoupled from the standard PVE experience with its' own difficulty scaling, particularly in the Masked Carnival. I'd argue it has a better difficulty grading than the standard PVE experience, which is a flat plateau with dungeons, an occasional bump with certain trials, a slight incline with Alliance and Normal raids on patch day, a steeper one for EX and a vertical spike for Savage+.

Also, "Congratulations on grasping [...]" - that's condescending mate.

Yeah, as others have said, the whole Caravale thing is a series of mini puzzles, either figuring out the best spells for 'solving' the puzzles, or just brute forcing your way through it, ah la 'Final Sting' combo.

Some are harder than others and the whole thing is rather uneven in difficulty. Luckily there are a lot of various guides to help if you need it.

Still, even WITH the quides, it is hard, with much trial and error as you learn the proper mechanics, just like with any hard content in FF14, you are going to mess up a lot until you get used to it.

This frustrates casual players who may not partake in EX's and raids, so it comes as a shock to them having to do this 'fail time and time again' until you learn it.

Should they be 'dumbed down'? Maybe as much as EX's and other hard stuff should be ' dumbed down'.

Like it of not, the Caravale is the solo version of hard stuff, just like the Criterion dungeons are the 4 man version of hard stuff.

One thing that does suck about the Carnavale though it you have to get through it to finish all the Blue quests. Also, the Raise is tied to completing the first 30 fights, and that spell is quite important in any hard content.

Im sorry but if its taking you 100 attempts to do a single trial, then this is an obvious skill issue.

I dislike Carnivale too, I have to admit. Especially anytime it requires Loom because that's just an awful spell to use. Ground target spells are far too finicky to use when playing with a controller. When you need to use Loom, there's never time for that kind of nonsense. That's not even taking into consideration the actual spell casting time. I would much prefer if that was just a basic dash forward.

I eventually beat them all and it's definitely a big relief when I finally manage them.. but there is zero chance I will ever go back and repeat them. Never.

All that said, my only real issue with Carnivale is that Angel Whisper is locked behind it, which is just bad. It's too important and it hurts everyone. Other than that, it's really just glamour weapons and that's a thing I expect there to be a certain amount of flex on. The Blue Mage story is terrible, just like the Hildibrand crap. Couldn't give half an F about it either way. The prospect of being locked out of it at some point in the future is of no concern to me.

That one that is called "Dirty Rotten (whatever his name is)" that took me at LEAST 100 tries probably more like 150. the first 50 were skill. The rest were getting my internet not to have a lag spike at a bad moment and avoiding just plain bad luck. Unfortunately not everyone is blessed with really smooth internet.

I beat it though and enjoyed the process. As it is solo content I really don't think it matters how long it takes to beat it as long as you don't give up.

Thats a healthy mentality to have. It took me quite some tries with Gogo personally but it's mostly because of my own mistakes rather than the trial itself.

Here is my thought. For people who seem to have no problem wasting their time trying to coordinate a full 8-man group to do savage suddenly trying to coordinate yourself with a piece solo content is deemed "bad"? It's people like this that I'm afraid is half of what caused some of the game's direction to shift this way. There is such a thing as bad feedback imo.

People's priorities are just whack sometimes.

100% disagree. Masked Carnivale is some of the best stuff gameplay wise this game has. Rarely do we have to plan ahead for a battle and actually pay attention to what's going on. Yes, it's rather hard, but it's optional.

Most of your complaints seem to be about having trouble learning the fights, which are usually a combination of the following:

- Having the right abilities
- Knowing where to be ahead of time
- Execution

Once you get down the first two, it's just about refining the third one. Most of these fights are gimmick fights, requiring you to have the right type of elemental damage, or unique ability, or using your shields at the right time. It's... really fun. It somewhat reminds me of prepping for Elden Ring fights, and I know that's a weird comparison, but it's still solo challenges where the only one you can blame for messing up is yourself, and I kinda enjoy that. If you're having trouble, there's always Blue Academy, a great YouTube channel with tips for each and every fight.

I really don't know what else to tell you. This is the type of midcore content that the game is lacking in. If I had to compare it to regular content, I'd say Azulmagia is comparable to an Extreme, but I can't think of anything other than him to ever get that hard. If all else fails, get the last act down to 80% and Final Sting their face with Whitle and let me tell you: They WILL die.

I think the only fight I found slightly difficult would be Gogo, I did have some that took a few attempts but that's mainly because I try to figure them out myself. The latest fight took me like 5 attempts and that was mainly to add the spells I was missing. I would however have liked to have the option of doing solo log runs, I can easily solo at least the dungeons. I just find it annoying that I have to find 3 other people to "assist" me with something I can do on my own.

I honestly don't think the Masked Carnivale is all that difficult, if you can somehow make your way to endgame then you can easily clear the Masked Carnivale. You literally just solve mechanics, like all the other fights the game has to offer, it's just one puzzle after another.

Loom targeting is a bit rough but it's not like goldor or gogo can surprise you with their heavy applications. They follow a very strict timeline with almost no variation. If you're struggling at a particular part of the fight just drop your dps uptime, instead focus and prepare for the upcoming aoes.

I really liked the little solo challange. Beat me, but at least, when I see someone with the umbrella I can assume that it's a player who tries to improve to reach goals.

So often people complain about that everything is too easy and that people get not challenged enough to improve their skills. But at the same time, when there is a piece of content that you can't do while half sleeping, people complain, too.

MC is a little challange but if you get into it it's not too hard. You just have to learn the fights and practise a little bit. Some spells are needed often (Aetheric Mimikry, Loom, Exuivation, Pom Cure, Diamondback, 1spell to interrupt casts), the rest is optional.

If people do not want this little challange, then this is not the right content for them. It's the same with ultimate. We are not forced to do this. :3

I'm just quite baffled by the arguments the white knights try to make in this case, labeling it as "skill issue"

So you're trying to tell me that wasting vast amounts of time during a battle where you hit a brick wall due to not having the right spell assigned is a "skill issue".
I would get that if you'd have the right tools and still fail, that might be the skill issue you're talking about but having like "deal physical damage only" checkpoint if you haven't slotted one in advance cause, ye know it's day 1 and you're going in blind, wasting another 15 minutes in the process is just not fun. It's not a challenge whatsoever, it's go progress into a fight just to realize you haven't slotted the right thing, you don't need any skill for that as you couldn't possibly known beforehand what kind of brickwall the game throws at you.

They just clearly don't have any sort of idea how to pace single player games - it showed in FF16s sidestories and it shows here in form of carnivale - they either make things piss easy or jump rope ohko styles - how are players supposed to improve if there's nothing inbetween?

Wipe and slot it in. To be honest, I kept forgetting to slot it in and killed the hardest ones with Flying Sardine and Phantom Flurry, the only physical attacks I had slotted. It took ages. Sounds funny, but it's true! I beat the Masked Carnivale with Flying Sardine spam.

How did I achieve that? By repeating the fight and it becoming muscle memory, to the point I could defeat it with my extremely low DPS.

It's not day 1 though.

It definitely is a skill issue, but you shouldn't ever take that to heart. The point of playing a game like this is to improve your skill to the point where you clear the encounters, and if you were 'good enough' from the outset then it wasn't actually worth doing. If it's a puzzle mechanic and you're doing it blind (which you still can do, if you don't look anything up), then hitting roadblocks and having to rethink your strategy is part of the fun. You'll eventually figure it out if you're determined to win.

I will say that this is the easiest final Carnivale fight that they've ever released. They could have made the challenge achievement have a minimum time requirement, but they went out of their way to make it accessible. I would have preferred it if they had released a few fights rather than just one (given how infrequent BLU releases are), and given the final one a proper optional challenge. It was a little underwhelming in that regard.

I like the Masked Carnivale a lot. It feels a bit like playing older FF games with elements and status ailments mattering. I'm not very good at it and it often takes me a lot of attempts to finish but I enjoy the process.

However, I will say that the difficulty of the blue bosses is out of line with what you usually need to complete story quests in XIV. I would support the addition of easy modes for the stages that are required to advance the Blue Mage job quests as I believe story content should be accessible to everyone.

I absolutely love the Masked Carnivale. It's really BS with the fights sometimes, an absolute BS sandwich, but it feels great for me when I pass them.

I haven't done new BLU yet but I do think there is some merit in the idea that the BLU-quest battles might be able to be a bit more accessible since they are tied to progression. The challenge, just like with anything in XIV, can come from the other optional stages. I think that would be a good balance.

Also, someone mentioned not having a spell they needed to take in. I think the act descriptions could be a little better about preparing for that. I've found myself without something I needed as well. I just wiped and came back with it once I realized what was going on. But if I were thinking of places that could be improved for BLU then the place outside where you can review the weaknesses and such could give a bit more information to help out.

Part of skill is making certain you have the correct tools needed to defeat a challenge. The game has made the opportunity to acquire those skills available. It's on the player to do so.

So take your pick on whether it's a skill issue, an intelligence issue, or a laziness issue.

My approach to game content: if others have done it, then so can I if I want it bad enough. Some things I just don't have enough interest in to make the appropriate effort and that's okay as well. But that's my choice, not a problem with the game.

What problem with pacing with the Masked Carnival? We're free to go out and get the spells we want at any time (as long as our BLU is at least the minimum level for the content needed to learn the spell). No spell is necessary that can't be learned by the time the Carnival stage is unlocked. If you think something can only be done with a higher level spell, then take a closer look at the lower level spells.

If I die, it's only because of me fucking up, and not because one of the other 7 bozos I'm queueing in with. It's supposed to be hard. I want it to stay hard, it's what makes it fun.
In short: Skill issue. Git gud.

Most of the Masked Carnivale is fine.. but some of the stages are just **** ****** .. and they ruin the rest of it..

An alternative to Loom if people have issues with ground targeting should be considered. I can't remember all the fights you need loom, if a dash would work or not.



Raise needs to be reconsidered, full stop. It is unnecessarily hard to get. It has way to long a cooldown. It actively hinders spell learning parties. Yes people should get good and dodge. But damn if I go full Blue in a Shiva party multiple wipes and agony. If I go WHM I can usually help get the spell in two attempts. I did Laser Eyes people getting hit over and over. We had one WHM and one PLD we cleared instantly, and that was with the same people face tanking all the mechanics. All these people too good to take help from regular jobs so they can get blue log checked off. You aren't that good.

If they had split rewards. One where I can try from act 2 for clear and one where you have to clear from start to finish. Some people just want to continue the Blue quest. I feel they tied wrong item to completion and reward compared to difficulty doesn't match up.

Wow...I think some of the responses to the creator of this is downright cruel & insulting. The person is expressing how they feel about the content but to say they are lazy or don't know what they are doing is insulting & not very helpful as a community...just saying.

My biggest complaint with MC & I always felt like this since BLU came out is that MC should have never been tied in with the BLU Mage's storyline. MC is content & is the solo counterpart to the Blu Log which is content for Blu Mage parties. After 29 attempts & finally beat the level 25 act...DIRTY ROTTEN ?? which had to be done to progress through the story. All that did was made me frustrated & basically, stop MC.
MC & the Blu Log are great if you want the challenge to get achievements, rewards, allied seals, mounts, & glowy BLU weapons with higher stats but it should not be tied to the storyline.

SE please ignore this thread. Masked Carnivale is still good. Please dont take away the content or dumb it the heck down just to appease the loud few who have their little gamer frustrations over a couple of trials.

Having more limited Jobs and MC like stuff would be nice.

Additional normal Jobs just force them to homogenize them even further due balancing issues.

However, I will say that the difficulty of the blue bosses is out of line with what you usually need to complete story quests in XIV. I would support the addition of easy modes for the stages that are required to advance the Blue Mage job quests as I believe story content should be accessible to everyone.

I totally agree & posted that in this thread. MC should have never been tied in with the BLU Mage storyline. MC is the solo counterpart to the BLU Log which is for BLU mage parties. Both are content for the Blu Mage & should be separate from the storyline.

In #25, visibility in Act 3 is awful on purpose. The design of the encounter is that you must first figure out how to see where you are and where to go.

I'm not saying change it, because that's the design. I guess overcoming is a valid reason for a reward. But it feels bad to fail it because I can't see what's on my screen.

MC & the Blu Log are great if you want the challenge to get achievements, rewards, allied seals, mounts, & glowy BLU weapons with higher stats but it should not be tied to the storyline.

Sorry, but if the developers don't learn to ignore minority opinions, then they quite frankly don't deserve to continue to operate this game. Then again, that is already the case...
