I'm not deep in yet, damn 50 hour weeks, but I am enjoying XVI immensely as well. It is refreshing to see protagonists that take lumps and don't have all the answers.
I feel though, at least from my perspective, that XVI is taking the route of, "Predictable to the player, but the characters aren't in the know." Which is honestly a great way to tell a story, but it might make some silly billies think the story being told is bad cause there's not gonna be a lot of, "twists" or "subversions of expectation."
