The fact that you can literally just buy the other gender set from a vendor clearly means that they plan on lifting the restriction perhaps most likely in the next sub-patch (hopefully). They probably werent able to rig the outfits on time to fit all genders models since the team runs on a schedule like most other developers (before anyone likes to be smart about modders doing this crap for free first day when they have no job obligations whatsoever, its such a idiotic comparison). It was either that or postpone the Valentione event which they prioritized first.

It's no PR job. It's common sense and pattern recognition. They've been regularly updating these outfits. There's absolutely NOTHING to suggest they won't. As there will never be any kind of thanks or apology when they do, I'm unapologetic in calling you people out for being so whiny, when they've clearly shown there's a plan to address this.

These stupid raunchy jokes are just the tip of the iceberg, you have no idea how much your experience actually gets butchered by some people mainly Koji Fox rewriting the game after their taste for odd dialects and strange words. Which is probably something you can expect from someone who was used to teach english etc. but we are here to enjoy a cohesive story.

I mean i am grateful that Koji Fox exists don't get me wrong, he is same as Yoshi P. one of the reasons why XIV was such a huge success and why SE is even alive right now. But he has way way too much sway over the translation of the game, way way too much.

Looking over the images that been posted around, it seem the outfit works fine on males for Elezen, Au Ra, Midlander, Viera and Miqo, Highlander male has weird fitting issues around the neck, likely because only the (much less bulky) Midlander model is finished, Roeg, Lala and Hroth have weird stretching on the upper arms and shoulders, likely because they have different rigging than the other races

Setting aside the genderlocked items issue for a second. I do believe there is a strong message being sent about self-love and the importance of staying true to oneself.

I suppose it hits me in the right places considering that every time I've been forced to wear a suit, I've absolutely hated it.

Are there prizes from the maze event? I haven't done it yet, but the opposite-gender outfits are straight purchases with gil once you complete the quest, so I assume the maze is purely for fun rather than enforced.

No thanks, I prefer the dress.

It's unfortunate people have to wait to wear the version of the outfit they prefer (especially considering the story of the event this year) but I'd rather have 2 sets to play with in the end than just getting 1.

So many seasonal events are just us running around town convincing npcs to join the seasonal event. It's so tiresome. I like the cosmetic rewards, but calling this thing an event is such a stretch compared to how other mmos handle seasonal events and turn them into ongoing things to incentivize people to actually log in and play together. The developers seem terrified of creating content that people feel... compelled to do? Like, there's this constant sense that the lack of a push to do anything is somehow good. I'll admit that some games treat their players like rats in a maze, and that's just one bad end of the spectrum; but ff14 is on the other side of the spectrum where it doesn't offer enough, especially during the lengthy 4-month downtime periods. An event that you complete in like 15 minutes isn't an event lol. It's a singular quest. Imagine more events along the lines of the moogle tomestone events, only you give way more rewards so people are actually running it for longer than 3 days, and you add some current content into the mix as well so everyone's roulettes aren't just arr/hw for the next month. I could see some people disliking this because they'll feel compelled to participate if they want to get everything. A lot of people hate the feeling of missing out and feeling "forced" to do something. I get that tbh, but I don't think the current setup is good at all because a bunch of people are always quitting for months at a time and it makes the game feel like shit to play.

I am going to assume they ran into some weird fitting issue with the chest piece and left them gender-locked.

imo they ran into fitting issues regardless. I don't have a pic on hand but ask a male au ra to put on the new item. it gives them the curviest waist in the world, even curvier than some females lol
and then on non-lalafell female races, the dress looks... idk, it's hard to describe. on lalafell it looks pretty good, but on "tall" females it looks like it's almost too small? like the actual dress part comes up just a bit too high in a weird way. and when you sit down, it doesn't bend at all; it just flairs open and lets people see right up to your stomach if you wear any other bottoms with it. and the shoulders look strange to me from the back. the hands clip through the dress too, which was a problem with the previous val dress as well. it just felt off; i was excited for it initially, but in the end i didn't assign it to a glam plate because it just looked poorly fitted and low quality in a lot of ways beyond the outer appearance. The actual appearance of the object is great, but running around in it and using it, for me at least, felt pretty bad. loads of other people obviously love it though lol so i'm not like, pretending to represent everyone. just saying that even without the gender neutral element, they clearly weren't able to nail everything. which is a bummer.

I have sometimes speculated about how they automate the fit on most of the races, atleast I assume it is done by letting some tool handle it.
You know the old adage, that everyone except lalafell are just stretched out hyur like if you took a ball of taffy and squishy and pulled on it? That surely holds some water, but clothes and fitting breaks pretty easily if you try to apply the same logic. In any more elaborate outfit their typical scaling stands out even more, because nobody actually would like ... make the shoulders bigger for taller people but that is what Roes get because as a rule, roe gear has wider sleeves. Why? Shrug. Feels like it is still following the same logic of "we need this leather tunic to be bigger" kind of deal.

Lalafell get custom fit tho, and that is why they usually get to look the best.

Usually, yes. And it's really apparent in housing.

Sometimes there's a glitch in the matrix, but usually it's stuff Square didn't really review.

That's the Fat Cat suit, it was weirdly glitched on Lalafells with stuff like that. I posted the link to the thread on it, I promise you it's safe (#InternetPromisesFromARando)

It was glitched out when it was released, I have no idea if it got fixed. The fact that people had to pay real money for it, since it's a Mogstation item only makes it so much worse xD

Genderlocked items despite a push to remove those restrictions, removal of racial features and awkward glitching on paid items. SE's a riot.

As some others have speculated, I have to assume this is a case of the story writers and the glam designers not being on the same page. It's not that clothing items are intentionally "locked," it's that they must be manually adjusted/redesigned for each body type. I guess the people who made the costumes weren't informed of the nature of the quest's themes and thus thought it was "business as usual" and did the traditional thing before being instructed otherwise.

Still, if this was done in error, I feel like they should release some sort of statement along the lines of "Sorry folks, we goofed. Key info wasn't relayed to our design team in time. We will get around to unlocking the outfits when we can, but in the meantime please feel encouraged to buy both sets and store in the armoire for later. Please look forward to it."

Many pieces of equipment are already keyed to work for both genders. Allowing them to be used as such is typically a matter of changing a single value. That said, there are quite a few pieces of gear not already configured for both, and you can get some pretty horrific results by trying to brute force the issue. I do not believe these clothing pieces are set up for that yet. If nothing else, the weight painting probably isn't there.

...Would be awfully fun to read player reactions were the value governing gender-locking to be set to both without the clothes being ready for it, though.

"Curviest waist in the world" is standard for male Au Ra. I've tried it on my alt and it has the same silhouette as the Palaka top and probably all similar fitted shirts. The bottom edge of the shirt looks odd though, and maybe the exact design the top highlights the waist more than other things do.

And yeah, the dress really looks too short. I said earlier that it feels like we all got the Lalafell-proportioned dress – it just looks awkward to me.

You can see that while it isn't exactly the same shape on each race, the relative position of the character's hands to the hem of their skirt makes the dress relatively shorter on the tall races than the Lalafell.

Definitely. It feels so conspicuous that the quest should end with the characters saying how important it is for you to wear what you want, and then the quest complete screen pops up offering you the choice of which outfit you want.

It really would have been helpful for them to be upfront about intending to do it and then running out of time, rather than pretending this is intentional and everything's fine when it's so clearly not.

Eh, Valentine's day is not a major holiday so I can see why they wouldn't put a great deal of effort into it.

You're right. They should've just skipped the backlog of gender locked gear, so folks could get the immediate satisfaction. Lesson learned. :rolleyes:
