Unlikely since there aren't even any male Roes in the ranks for voiced Scions
Oh don't flatter yourself hon. Your skunk wig looks this close to filing a noise complaint. The Scions wouldn't pick you either.
And if this is your only reason to hate... MAN you're petty. It's sad. Thank god you're not involved in making this game if that's your prerrogative.
Why is this thread become a racist drama?
That'd be grand but I'm not holding my breath personally, they seem very keen on only giving attention to the races that share body types (because it means most of the work for gear fitting and animations can carry over). I wouldn't be surprised if when they batch release the graphic update if Roes and Hroths are last to be implemented (assuming they don't just release all the player character stuff all at once, which is something I don't want to assume to get my hopes up).
I'd love to be proven wrong but I'm just managing my expectations (since the gear fitting issue Roes have hasn't been addressed much if at all [they remove galka tails but insist on making the male Roe silhouette have the same "skipped leg day" look when wearing anything remotely heavy armor or robe like. which is why I hope they at least make the Filibuster Heavy leggings have an all jobs variant because it's the only boots that look good with heavy armor and would look nice with robes if only mages could wear it])
Can you blame him when what you're saying is so disingenuous to the point of insulting?
Meanwhile miqo'tes are a dime a dozen and all look the same.
Meanwhile female au ra are a dime a dozen and all look the same.
Meanwhile male au ra range from somewhat decent to uncanny valley akward.
Meanwhile male roes look physically awkward.
Meanwhile elezen have held a monopoly on the Scion membership and all look awkward even when looking good.
Meanwhile male hyur all look the same.
Meanwhile lalafels all look the same.
Oh wait, this is all opinion (other than elezen monopolizing Scion membership) and shouldn't even affect which NPCs we get, which should instead be based on other things, such as "rate of usage".
"I personally hold the opinion that hroths are ugly, therefore I think the race should not receive any story benefits that actually have weight behind them, despite it diversifying the currently stale formula and making hrothgar fans feel like they're getting *something*."
This is basically what the "I don't want a hrothgar MSQ member" arguments in this thread are boiling down to. Cool, thanks for showing we shouldn't bother trying to have discussion with any of you regarding this, especially when you think player limitations really matter when it comes to affecting an NPC's appearance.
On topic, I honestly wouldn't be surprised at all if they give us a femhroth party member in 7.0.
will we get a roegadyn?
You know, it's sad really. We HAD one. The sadly often-forgotten Moenbryda Wilfsunnwyn.
She was unique amongst the Scions if you really think about it - under-represented race, a job/class that no other Scion covered (Marauder) and although she was clearly very well educated she, unlike a certain Miqo'te Waifu, had a personality beside that. And she had good chemistry with Urianger.
So naturally.they killed her off
It boggles my mind that people would actually prefer to have the devs be lazy than have a Hrothgar character made with care.
And here i thought that the devs were the only ones holding back the potential of Hrothgars.
But no, we also have people here that are actively against their proper implementation in the game.
If they don't want to see them at all like shown in this thread, i doubt any improvement to the race would be enough for them to accept one in the main cast.
In most RPG parties there is a fair amount of variety to account for different tastes amongst players. This is not the case in FFXIV, where it is oversaturated with blond/white haired elezen and miqote. There's usually at least one "big guy" for lack of a better phrase whether they be Qunari like Iron Bull in Dragon Age, Barret in FFVII, etc.

What I want to see in such a character is for them to not be designed in a way that purposefully makes them ugly, whether through spite for the race or larger types in general, and for them to bring something compelling to the story. Hopefully it'll be something more impactful than the feelz rollercoaster that a lot of people fell for in Endwalker and have something in the way of strong character development and high personal stakes. Again, see the above character for some pointers when it came to his story arc, his body not looking like it was made out of a marshmallow, and what draws his fans to him.
Someone who we can enjoy watching them overcome adversities, and potentially succeed in accomplishing their goal. Preferably with a conclusion that doesn't involve fakeout deaths. Though I suppose if the main party will be immortal, Roegadyn/Hrothgar enjoyers will be able to benefit of having 10 years worth of the character just like everyone has had to forcefully tolerate 10 years of Y'shtola and the twins.
There has always been some form of variety among NPCs that we encounter in the world. Until Shadowbringers's Trust system, there were no "RPG Parties".
Instead, we got
Female Roegadyn leader of a nation who we interacted with on a regular basis
Female Hyur (well, Padjal) leader of a nation who we interacted with on a regular basis
Male Highlander in charge of an army who we interacted with on a regular basis
Female Lalafell leader of a nation who we interacted with on a regular basis
Male Elezen (eventual) leader of a nation who we interacted with on a regular basis
Male Miqote leader of a functioning city-state who we interacted with on a regular basis
Male Au'ra leader who we managed to tolerate during our regular interactions
Male Hrothgar leader of a forest community who we interacted with on a regular basis
One who had a number of VA scenes
Female Viera leader of a forest community. Everyone in that community was a
female Viera, and a number of them had VA scenes.
One of the above had white hair. One of the above had blond hair.
Yeah, the Scions had a "type". Understandable for the most part, since hair color in Japanese fantasy media (ok ... anime) started out as a means to single out the 'more important' characters in the story.
Exactly this, we don't even have one big guy in the group, the Scions are really too similar to one another.
Even FFXII manage to be more diversed with a cast composed entirely of humans saved for Fran.
I want someone who looks like Auron, or Kimahri from FFX. I want a cast of characters that don't necessarily know each others and have varied goals like the party of FFXII.
And i want visual distinctions between all these characters that instantly makes you realize that they have different origins or cultures from one another.
So no more white haired people or scholars with purple tattoo please.
I'm not opposed to a 'bigger' character joining the scions, I just don't think a Hrothgar is it. Gosetsu would have been a fine addition for example. A race like the Qunari being added would be cool (though closer in design to the Arishok rather than Iron Bull would be my preference), but people are already complaining about the lack of hats as it is. So big horned races are probably a nono.
Funny enough, I'm fairly certain Estinien is supposed to be the "big guy" of the team. He's tall, loves going straight to the point (brute force), and is ...not so bright - even his armor of choice is rather bulky to make him stand out more. Yet, he is still just another white haired Elezen. We might as well ask Fourchenault if he wants to drop the Forum and relive his adventuring days.
Sure hope so! Gangos is the only place for now that has cat men.
Anyway, I'm done entertaining classless catastrophies that are so butthurt that a Hrothgar looked at them funny one day so much they stopped growing empathy or support for them. Feel free to eat the popcorn all you want guys, I'm not gonna participate in this any further.
Back on topic for me.
Hrothgar do need more representation, but overall so do other races as well. And while Square does a somewhat satisfactory job on some, they don't really do it nearly as well in others. Hrothgar aside...
- The two major Xaelas have been flanderized
- The two major Roegadyn are either dead or on self-imposed exile. Or just the mid-patch villain.
- In terms of numbers, the Raen are also rather low. The only major one we know of is Yugiri, Kurenai and Mikoto are only prominent in sidequests. Sure, it makes sense in-lore due to isolationism, but be real, whenever has Square actually followed through with lore isolationism?
Then again, we do have Varshahn... but he's not REALLY a Raen, so does he count?
- And in terms of Duskwights, do we have anyone major like Ysayle was? Mother Miounne barely comes close, she's nowhere near as prominent after a while.
I'm not saying they all need to find representation in the Scions. But it definitely would be nice to have someone with more prominence become a go-to for the player character to hang with and adventure around. Currently our Trust options aren't limited to the Scions, with Varshahn, Lyna and previously Estinien and the Exarch. It'd be nice to have more like that to break the shell. That way every character had a prominent member of their race represented. Otherwise the "protagonist" roster is too skewed. We also don't have a Lalafell Trust yet, for example, but I assume that will change with Krile being a bit more prominent in the future.
Though it does lead me to question whether or not this has to do with a race's popularity within the fanbase. Miqo'te are obvious, it's easy to make them markettable. Especially in Japan. But are the Scions being so skewed toward Wildwood Elezen a product of popularity as well?
I'm trying to remember, do the bangaa have any combat animations whatsoever? Because yeah like I said earlier having Bwagi and Fran as companions would be amazing, and very appropriate if by some miracle we got to deal with more Dalmasca stuff.
The only non-First/Bozja Hroths I can think of are Radovan (GNB trainer), Boric (crafter questline), a Hroth in Garlemald who you talk to once in the MSQ, and an unnamed npc in Sharlayan...4 Hrothgar, that's it...
Note: technically 3 since Radovan doesn't exist until/unless you accept the quest to unlock GNB
The only thing I can remember is Bwagi shooting the figure of Gunnhildr at the end of Castrum Lacus Litore with a gun. Otherwise, I don't think we see him fight anywhere else. He's mostly a cutscene presence either way... But I agree. We have Rostik as well to add to the group should the Bozjan resistance choose to lend a hand.
Oh right, I forgot Jareck and Boric. Boric obviously appears in cutscenes since he's part of a job quest. But I don't remember Jareck being a part of a cutscene? I think we just show up at the Tapper's Den, talk to him and then frolick off back to the sisters.
Which is kind of my point. Even when Hrothgar are used, they're shunted over to the corner. Same as some other races. And there isn't any major Hrothgar than Runar... a whole Shard away. I mean, you have Magnus, but even during the events of Amh Araeng he's just there as a filler NPC. Mother Miounne has about as much plot relevance.
Yeh, Jareck played a very minor role and I think he also offers a sidequest later on, but that's about it. He stood out to me because, well, he's a Hrothgar lol normally I'm the only giant cat man around
This is what I've been saying the whole time. Square only has itself to blame. Hrothgar customization is limited. Hrothgar representation is limited. The Hrothgar experience is a limited version of what we otherwise could have. Dev communication with Hrothgar is limited. And fan support seems rather weak. We do have a few good people who, even if they don't enjoy the race, still support the players who do enjoy it. But the voices aren't that loud. And whenever we bring attention to these issues, people call us whiny. When it's not whiny at all to say the truth: everything about Hrothgar is limited, when there's absolutely no good reason to be so. If saying what's going on right now is whining, then hell, the Scions shouldn't care about the Final Days, stop whining and enjoy the flaming sh*tshow raining from the sky!
At no point did the devs say that they were meant to be limited. Nowhere in the game do you find a justification for it.
Now, we can sit here and muse over whether it's fair to criticise the devs on this, whether we're not thinking of their workflow and decision-making, of their resources and capabilities. We could literally cry a river over whether one singular race would break minimum requirements when the company making these games has made stuff like FF15, 7 Remake, Kingdom Hearts and is on its way to making 16. So the truth is that, for whatever reason, the experience of playing Hrothgar is limited. If other races are already limited on their own, Hrothgar doubles down on it.
But the important takeaway from it all is that for many people, enjoyment of the race is stunted by how limited it is. Which DOES affect our numbers. I'm not expecting a massive surge in Hrothgar players, but I do at least know that we'd have a lot more than what we have had we had any proper attention. WITHOUT the devs making an utter foolish meme out of it.
And that sort of approach to a race that the devs themselves wanted to implement into the game only harms its reception. Not just by fans, but it provides moronic excuses for idiots such as "Oh they look too similar", "They're just a furry race, weeeh", "Hrothgars should just be deleted", so on and so bloody forth.
But hell, if it were a Miqo'te, ooh. Hell no. People would quickly stand and ask Square what the darn hell! If it were Hyurs or Lalafell, people would stand their ground and tell Square to fix it! But Hrothgar? Lmao who cares, amirite? Just say the most insensitive ass thing you could say to those players, completely make them feel EVEN MORE unwelcome than they already feel. Even more unwelcome than they've felt for almost four years now. And Square only has itself to blame for this. For the way their own playerbase behaves among itself. Because had they taken better care of their projects, people wouldn't constantly dump crap on their races. Square is the one who needs to promote their races, not the fanbase. Square is the one who needs to understand that they can't just relegate races to the background and then wonder why the first thing they ever "do" for them is so poorly received.
Now...
Roegadyn have always been in a crappy spot in terms of representation.
Au Ra literally only have a good handful of characters, everything else is in sidequests.
And rarely, if ever, do Duskwights get any attention whatsoever.
And those definitely need some more shine. But Hrothgar need to stop being background characters.
Keep this in mind: You know you f*cked up HARD when three of the new NPCs you added in are a Male Viera (a new race) and two Arkasodara (a beast tribe) are far more popular, liked, positive, well-received and memorable than a Hrothgar has been in years. Runar is the only one that ever comes close. In nearly four years.
And another thing! For as much as this game's community PRIDES itself on the game not being World of Warcraft...
At least that game does one thing right.
It knows how to give representation for its races
And all of them are badasses.
Be better if you're gonna preach that you're better, FF14 community. Hrothgar out!
I hope so. Hrothgar really are overlooked. If they do add one, it'll be interesting to see who they pick. I don't see it being Runar.Quote:
Will there be a new Hrothgar NPC in WoL's new gang?
Overall, I'd like to see all the current main Scions being phased out and replaced with new faces with the exception of Krile and G'raha Tia. I'd like to keep those two is Krile and G'raha as they have a built-in story arc to bring back the Students of Baldesion, which would be a good starting point for the WoL in a post-Endwalker world.
i hope not
they are big ugly and annoying
How can they be "annoying" when they barely have any story relevance/appearance at all? Lol
