Rinscita gear is no longer seen as acceptable in the current level. Because people expect you to have Tomestone gear at the very least. The current market going rate for PF recruitment is at least iLvl 615 for P5S and above. Pentamelding is also prohibitively expensive.

Not really if there is an extreme shortage of Tanks and Healers, then they should get geared fast! Vertical Progression is killing the game and should switch to horizontal! I use to remember when the game had resistances you needed to cap!

It's SE's fault for killing the market for most people! They made crafting brain dead now! I had got my crafters to 50 when you could't macro crafting and actually had to put time in to get it done! Crafting now sucks and only makes you minimal money except during the first few weeks of a patch drop. I can still make up to 2-3 million/day if I really put the effort in, but its time consuming!

That's just not true. They are handed out like candy. SE has added many ways to get materia like adventure in need for leveling roulette, beast tribes, hunts, dungeon mob drops, special dungeons(potd, HoH, crit dungeon, eureka, boz).

This has been an issue since Heavensward. People are making a bigger deal due to the job shortage in PF (Range in Asphodelos; Healers in Abyssos) and because there are nineteen jobs now. In general, people are just fed up of a system which progresses at a glacier's pace and makes the whole alt swapping concept this game loves to advertise less engaging.

With all that said, the OP's idea goes too far in the opposite direction. Essentially removing accessories entirely makes the first fight worthless. There simply wouldn't be enough of a gear spread to cover four fights. Not to mention, this would actually cause a direct nerf to tanks and healers as your Earring example always gives them their "role specific" state: i.e., Tenacity and Piety. Two substats neither role wants. Furthermore, SE is unlikely to make this big of a change to the gearing structure. We have to think smaller scale to get them to even consider a change. A good start is adding gear to Criterion (EX or Savage versions) and unlocking the Savage tier earlier. Getting the tome cap to increase is probably the biggest hurtle.

Even putting aside how all the crafting changes from late Stormblood into Shadowbringers has ruined crafting on the whole. Pentamelding isn't "prohibitively expensive" unless you do almost nothing. This game barfs materia at you left and right. Dedicate some time to hunt trains and you'll cover everything you need for a whole set without spending a cent. If you're still struggling with gil, slap some VII and VIIIs in there. They're usually 500-600 gil a pop. You'll be perfectly fine blowing those up.

Gee, maybe we should actually look at why people don't like playing healer? An idea: Try hitting your 1 Button 14 times every 30s and see how you feel about it. Yoshida says it would be good, but it's understandable why they are averse to changing jobs because you're essentially having to relearn the fight on that job. It's no different when you swap from Tank to DPS to Healer - they're all different roles and take time to learn the fight timings for - however, they time gate Savage and Tomestone gear because guess what? It retains their base in a patch for subscriptions. Gotta pay the bills somehow as a company, and also have a good budget for the next expac. If you could farm out all your gear in a week, Savage Raiders would be gone rather quickly.

The reason why is if we turn the clock back to Stormblood Launch, we have Tanks that were using Strength accessories to keep aggro, because all other accessories in Stormblood were inferior due to not having Strength included on the gear. We don't need this kind of crap again where substats actually matter since Vitality/Job Main Stat are hard locked into gear. Like, imagine a WAR taking Melee Accs into a fight...

Not sure how you increase versatility without investment into a job. You can gear it all you want, but if player skill is the issue(which is a good handful of people in Savage atm) then it means that you need to learn your job more and practice rotations. Learn how to plan out your fight and add muscle memory. In regards to Rinascita Gear, the prices have gone down since Raid Season is pretty much gone due to the fact that we've been at this for a while now. We're going towards the lull in content. Also, 610 is acceptable as long as you know how to do your job and perform well. Gearing only matters when you aren't geared for the fight's iLv req.

Yeah, that precedent is essentially when XIV is gearing up for a new expansion coming out. We aren't gonna hear about it until Fan Fest next year. Also, this 'pressure' you imply here isn't true - there is absolutely no pressure whatsoever. Grind Tomes Weekly, work towards BiS, heck if you know how to craft go ahead and craft your Rinascita for the 610. The reason people decide on i612-i615 is because they have higher expectations and want an easy fight, when in reality you can complete the fight in i610 gear if you do your job well and follow mechanics. That simple.

I'm not walking into a raid 2 months in wearing 610ilv. Could I pull it off? Maybe. But I'm making the raid harder for the group than if I was on my main. I'll do less damage, have less health, if someone forgets mit I'll die and others won't. That's not fun and doesn't feel good. If I want week one challenge I'll make a min ilv group.

Yoshi can say whatever he likes, if it's not fun it's not fun.

Feel like other half of the story is how frustrating it is to play healer in savage, let alone PF. You spend a lot of time perfecting a rythym with your own group and co-heal that lets you actually PLAY your support dps how Yoshi P designed it to be. But that all falls apart the moment you step into PF with terrible attitudes of the eternally blameless players, c-heals who secretly hope you carry the heals and whatever syngery you can honestly even pull out of a group of complete randoms. I'm struggling to believe there's a large group of people who would jump at the chance to go heal PF savage for no reason. Honestly gear gating is only the half of it.

I'm BiS already, I put in the work to gear up and now want to gear up alt jobs. It's been quick to get raid pieces no one wants but everyone needing multiple twines/glazes makes gearing alt jobs extremely tedious.

The one thing I don't understand about this and the rest of the stuff that's been mentioned is the argument here... because there technically is an alternative to getting gear. It's just slow. You get twines and stuff with Sacks of Nuts. All you need to do is either do hunt trains or do daily/weekly hunts. Perhaps even both. The rest is all tomestones. You won't be BiS, but you'll be decently geared to get to savage eventually, which does give you the rest that you need to be BiS.

And idk about you guys º3º but that's not "working for it" for me. Savage would be working for it. Mindlessly killing some critters out in the wild and getting tomestones is just "playing through the game", not really a sign of effort.

The irony with people puffing out their chests and simply telling others to "GIT GUD" and "you don't need BiS!" is said players being told this have taken Yoshida's advice... by playing other games while they wait for BiS. Evidently, the system isn't working since he's had to beg people to play healers. Granted, there's more to the healer shortage than gearing but the devs' stubbornness gear progression is being met with equal stubbornness from the playerbase. At least from those of us who have already cleared.

I, for example, don't need to touch Savage ever again. I enjoy doing so for fun. It isn't fun if I'm playing a gimped job with barely any gear. And don't people around here always insist "if the content isn't fun, you should take a break!"

Yes that is a part of it and really supports why healers do need every little bit of gear they can get. Not saying that you can actually heal through bad playing but every little bit helps. I also think it's better to try to play and learn healer than wait forever in PF for the healer that will never show up. There are many problems yes, I'm just trying to come up with solutions.

This exactly. People need to stop blaming the healers if they themselves are not using mitigation to help. If the party wipes despite said mitigation? It likely IS the healers fault at that point (unless your gear isn't up to par).

I don't really favor more homogenization, if I'm honest. I do believe that the rate of gear acquisition is fine IF you're maining one job. If you want to flex between multiple jobs though, it feels too slow imo, like there's a disincentive to gear up multiple jobs at the same time. I don't think unifying accessories is the way to go. I'd rather they adjust the rate at which we can acquire tomestone gear. You can be gearing up your main job via savage(if you do it) and then spending your tomestones on your alternate job more often since you could afford to. I personally wouldn't care if my alt jobs were bis or not, I'm primarily interested in just making sure they're meeting PF ilvl requirements and aren't gonna be a huge drain on healers because I enter content at the bare minimum ilvl for entry. Because of how gearing currently works, I only play one job. It's all I can be bothered with. I wish I had more avenues of acquiring the 620 gear so I could actually put some effort into other jobs, versus just buying them a crafted set and calling it a day.

At no point have I felt like I couldn't access other content due to restrictions.

If anything it's a boon in disguise because it encourages people to run the slightly older savage content (p1-4S) to gear up which is great for those of us who want them for glams or completion reasons.

P1 thru P4S drops i600 gear. Crafted is i610, PF generally asks for i615.

How is it a "you" problem if we're simply choosing not to engage with something we don't find fun? I'm not upset I can't PF. I simply shrug it off and do something else. Would I like to practice my healers? Yep. I'm not in any immediate rush though. So I'll wait until I have better gear.

It is, however, a developer problem when Yoshida starts begging people to give healers a try. He can counter with whatever statement he fancies. If people aren't doing it, then his counter means nothing. Now you have two disgruntled groups instead of one. And JP has been experiencing the same issue with healer shortages. They were the ones who brought it up in the Q&A to begin with.

While I do not doubt this is a contributing factor. It isn't the only one. People have largely been fed up with the terrible healing design this game has insisted upon since Shadowbringers. Many of the good healers have simply moved on to playing DPS because they actually get to do something besides spam one button endlessly. Which ties back into the healer shortage as now they're only gearing healer as a potential secondary or even tertiary job. Prange is another role usually in short supply. And wouldn't you know, they all were gutted in Shadowbringers to. It's almost like this new direction has been poorly received for years now and they've stubbornly clung to it that now people are simply refusing to play both roles.

Because the collective "you" has a choice to engage or not. The base level of "fun" is highly subjective yes, but the barrier for participation is low.

Time-gating, moreover, has only ever been relevant to one's first/progression job, and only when that gear comes from rewards that are gated by time (weekly currency, weekly lockouts). Everything beyond that isn't time-gated, but merely grind-gated. You are solely asking for multi-jobbing to be as locked behind grinds as possible despite the gear in question, mere accessories, typically sharing the very same appearances that being able to use any accessory on any job would actually allow for greater stat choice and thereby differentiation. It would even increase the value of running such content for single-job-players.

As far as the right side gear goes their is different stats on each group of jewelry that benefits Bards that wouldn't benefit Red Mages and so on, so if they could get the stats organized then I'd be cool with all right side gear being a 1stop shop for all jobs.

Few "solutions" that could be potentially be inspired of since gearing multiple jobs is almost impossible without making an alt :

less books for gear and especially augments (1 month to get +10ilv on a single accessory is ridiculous)
900 tomestone cap (or simply reduce price)
make savage farmable in a way (killing boss gives pages which u can trade for books? idk)

Current gearing system is terrible and needs a big change, it's been bad for so long but more jobs are being released and I doubt anyone wants to stick to 1 job for a whole tier, I personally don't

I don't see an issue with some form of grinding btw, savage is boring once prog is over.
You kill all 4 fights on tuesday then you have nothing to do all week, you can't even help other players without getting the good old 0-1 chests available
If there would be some form of replayability for savage content other than doing l*g runs which is legit crit farming and 3rd party, I would do savage fights everyday and help other players in kill party PFs
(I only play in pf btw, hence the reason I think gearing is lame since I also only have bad rolls)

I feel like the need of creating an alt to play savage is because of the gearing system which doesn't let you gear multiple jobs without being punished for it or the 0-1 chests thing
but I might be wrong and OP might be only talking about alt-friendliness

I haven't seen this lack of healers you speak of, everytime I want to do anything there are no Tanks and I don't want to switch myself because everytime I tank anything high end I get bored af after 5 minutes xD
Maybe thats the bigger issue, some roles are just not very fun to play anymore..
I used to enjoy just subbing as a War or Sum, but I can't play those jobs anymore without me wanting to just pick up fishing in this game..

The mix & match system wouldn't be bad, but if your going for a simple solution that would be a 1stop shop for all jobs that could share the same right side gear then having multiple versions would kind of kill that and it wouldn't be a 1stop shop for all jobs.

Now how u would bind all the gear into a finished product that would benefit all jobs, I don't know, but I would support a 1 stop shop, but then again I like things the way they are now as well, but if it were up to me I'd have everything from your abilities to your traits be able to be picked or mixed among jobs but FFXIV doesn't operate like that.

Each job would still have the degree of choice previously available to ALL jobs after having gotten the accessories for ONE job.

Again, this is only accessories, not all gear.

At present, each job has only one choice of accessory per venue (be that a given Extreme, Savage tier, or Weekly Tomestone tier). They are not designed for the jobs within those gear classes. They're just slapped on at random. Do you think a Paladin wants Crit any more than a Warrior does.

That said, nor does it particularly matter. Beyond shallow SkS/SpS tiers that one can reach off solely materia, Crit is generally king anyways. Trading between DHit, Determination, and Crit around its break-even point (compositionally dependent) all provides far, far less value than crit RNG produces between two identical runs. Outside of avoiding Tenacity, or especially Piety, secondary stat optimization these days is more feel-good than it has significant degree of efficacy.

Allowing from a given venue twice as many accessories as are needed just to fill slots would both ensure that the whole range of glamour options are open to each job and double the chances that a job could get something more appropriately optimized for its job compared to the present system (which far from necessary but may feel good enough nonetheless to add a bit more longevity to Extremes for those using only a single gear class).
