Even if it were, considering inflation is going off the rocker lately and how some countries have been absolute garbage at dealing with it, even people whom cosmetics were marketed for are now unable to afford them.

Came to make a post about this myself today, almost surprised to see a thread already up. In general, I've nothing against the cash shop. I know it lets Yoshi have more control over other aspects and outright pays for parts of the game. I've also bought plenty of items from it myself, in pretty much every category. Now... that said...

The rising increase in costs solely because of non-genderlocked items is absolutely ridiculous. $18 for a glam is already a stupid cost, but now SE just has the absolute audacity to tell us "Hey, now you get some extra pants, so cough up the dough!" even though if the items were genderlocked still, they'd both exist regardless. They're not doing any extra work, yet they're taking on an extra charge for 0 reason. It's absolutely scummy as all heck and completely indefensible. Honestly the Fat Cat outfit went from an insta buy to something I'm not even thinking about. I haven't even bought the streetwear set yet which I'm considerably more interested in.

That's not even talking up the point that of all things that might be egregiously placed on the eshop instead of in-game methods, it's the emote category. So many absolutely basic emotes should be in-game rewards and just aren't, and this is the latest one. So even though I've been wanting this emote like the rest of the community from the minute we saw Pagaga, I won't be picking it up either. SE needs to cut this crap out and stick things back in the game where they belong.

I can't go out to a mid-level restaurant for dinner and a drink and spend less than $18.00, which is $13 for the sub + 5 for a month's portion of an expansion. I get sustenance for half a day and an hour of enjoyment. Put another way, a movie where I am is about $13.00 for an adult ticket, which is a month's sub. Two coffees is $13.00 where I am. If you average a single (1) hour of game time per day you're paying 51 cents per day, or $1.53 for three (3) hours of entertainment. This is more than a meal, movie, or cup of coffee get you for as much, or more, than the total monthly subscription cost of this game. That is an extremely cost-effective form of entertainment and is *very* cheap compared to other hobbies. For someone who averages even two hours per day, MMO gaming is a ridiculously low-cost form of entertainment.

I can understand why some people are upset about that. I gotta say thought I still bought it.

I tend to think that sometimes, we buy take outs for more or less the same price. Sometimes we buy a single t-shirt for that price.

But hey, I bought a silly fat cat pajamas in an online game instead o/

Because it's the truth. Having a meltdown about online store prices is like flipping out on a barista because you couldn't afford a latte.

nothing.. absolutely nothing... in the store is required to play the game. at all.

puts anything on there more in the realm of a luxury item. its like complaining that Aston Martins are too expensive!!!! they are, but you hardly need one to drive.

if its too expensive, save your money, dont buy it. the price of everything is going up.. why would the online store be any different?

The tea emote should have been free as well IMO. We see NPCs do it constantly, and probably our characters did it at least once too.

It's optional and frankly some people just got the money to spend on it. So they have a built in demographic, its quite simply people with extra money burning a hole in their pocket thats who that outfit is for. Same as that wonderful jacket that crafters got from momm...ammeliance. I don't have it because crafting/gathering gives me hives so I am happy that they got that sexy jacket that would be PERFECT for a ton of glams I have, no I'm not salty you are.
Tldr: MOG items are for Mog spenders. It ain't great, it just is.

You people seem to highly misunderstand how much influence must go in by a group or person that nobody at SE flipped the switch yet.
You think that is overpriced? That it's trash quality? Good, be happy about, less people buy it.
You absolutely underestimate how much they could pull with the store from really good dances, actual fancy clothes like nothing that are ingame,
relic like weapons, new animations, loot boxes, gil, or faster flight in the store. SE is not a good company nor are they your friend, okay, they were happy to implement NFT and Crypto in
their games to rip you off. You're a finger snip away that the store becomes an actual problem and not 22 dollar for an outfit.

Extremely unlikely we'd get anything tbh, though technically not impossible. Between my own personal experience working in game development environments and snippets of what Yoshi-P has said about the mogstation team, I have no doubts they have a 'here's the bargain bin of scrapped ideas we won't ever have time for, go nuts' relationship.

Most ideas that get cut in game development don't come back later, they just stay dead. Especially for a development team that has such short development cycles (4 months for the amount of content they make is lightning fast pace, I've worked with companies that could barely get a single level of a game done in that timeframe). I would suspect without the mogstation team salvaging discarded ideas, maybe 1/20th of the stuff currently on the mogstation would exist at all.

Not to mention, every player benefits from the mogstation's existence in one way shape or form - lower sub costs. let's be realistic, with inflation over time and rising dev costs, if it weren't for the Mogstation supplying a huge extra source of income that can cover several month's worth of subs from non-mogstation buyers, the sub cost would have 100% gone up a few $ by now. Which may be fine for some people, but would not for many others. And no, 'it'd be willing to pay more if meant we'd get more stuff in game' wouldn't be a valid response either. It'd be a simple cost of business adjustment, it wouldn't suddenly give the developers more time in their intensely packed dev cycles to actually implement anything.

Hate it all you want, but the mogstation is a necessary evil. Do I personally like it? No. But its the most optimal decision both financially and statistically. People will be blissfully ignorant of the fact the mogstation people are almost assuredly the sole reason they aren't paying several extra $ per month, many scrapped ideas the dev team couldn't do will get to see life instead of being buried forever, and Square makes a lot of extra money. It's a win on all sides from a consumer - business perspective.

Now one could argue the prices of the mogstation are too high for what they offer, but that's a separate discussion, like how $22 for a single character outfit is ludicrous, it should either be closer to $10 or account wide.

I never bought anything on this stuff, it's really only good for bums.

Then it's normal that they raise the prices and disrespect you since you're going to pay no matter how they treat you...

Even if it's only an hour's work, is it really worth that much? I tend to think of it like this, the base game comes with outfits. Many outfits in fact. How much of the original price of the game covered those? If the game sells for $100, let's say 25% went to graphics, 25% went to story, 25% went to marketing, and 25% went to 3D assets (I'm making this up, it's just for example). Outfits and such would fall under assets, so the 100 (?) outfit items that come with the base game would at most amount to $25 in value (25% of 100). If that is the case, how can single outfits sold by themselves cost anywhere near that?

The logic I used to break down the costs above would imply outfits should cost $0.5 ($25 for assets divided by 100 assets = $0.25 per asset and then I multiplied by 2 to be generous) at the absolute most. $20 might not be a lot in the grand scheme of things, but it looks absolutely overpriced when you take a close look. Unfortunately this is how typical game pricing and microtransactions work. They use prices that may not amount to large amounts of money in a single transaction while hoping you don't realize that there is an unbelievably enormous mark up behind the price that adds up very quickly overtime.

TLDR, it's odd when a single asset costs 1/3 to 1/2 the price of a full game, even if that cost is only an hour's wages.

General sales on anything that isn't a story/level skip, fantasia or previous event items only happens once a year during The Rising. Even given that, the discount on their once a year sale is only 33% which leaves things still far too expensive.

Suggesting that people "not buy stuff" is unhelpful at best.

I'm honestly wondering how long until the playerbase will realize that maybe there is something wrong with the shop, in a p2p game.

Or maybe it will never happen and it'll only get worse. Yeah I'm almost sure that's how is gonna go.

Very much agree!

The MMO I played previous to FFXIV was very commited to a loot crate model. It was one (of many) reasons I quit that game. They put everything players really wanted in those damn boxes and you'd hear of players spending literally hundreds (and in some cases thousands) trying to win that grand prize and subsequently expressing buyer's remorse when the boxes dropped a stack of 'junk' they didn't really want or need.
And to make things worse the studio in question flat refused to divulge the odds (and still do), although players opening boxes on the game's test server did work out that the odds of winning the grand prize were something like 0.05%

Anyway, having experienced that sort of sleazy predatory cash-grab mentality I'd say that buying guaranteed items for (what I consider to be) a reasonable price isn't actually so bad!

Took me a while to realise as well if Im being honest.
I played eso before and Id justify the store glams and prices as in ah well its a non sub game, sub games can keep the prices low and you get way more benefits because you pay a sub…..uh……..

Bold of one to assume they'd add them in game for anything else.

All we can do is complain while the ones splurging their money do so. I can imagine something really amazing being introduced soon, but on a hefty $50 tag because a lot of people bought something at $45 previously.
