Don't they do maintenance on different days for different servers? It kind of feels like they hate a good chunk of their NA population. Doing anything between July 1st and 4th for NA servers is kinda of dumb.

I would tend to agree there. My company is also international and those things have to be taken into consideration.
The one thing I can give SE is that they're consistent. They only let their own holidays affect their patch schedule. So it does suck and it does feel a bit like they don't consider all the regions they operate in, but at least everyone else besides the Japanese get to have it suck equally.
This is SE and FFXIV.
This isn't IT and wherever you may work. This is a different company and they operate differently.
Typically they do Patches on a Monday so that Tuesday it will be done along with their weekly reset.
This is how they operated for a Decade, its not 'Taking the Players for Granted' its consistency in how they run the game.
Sorry its happening on an American Holiday, but for real, shouldn't you be out celebrating? FFXIV isn't going anywhere
The real question is what are they even doing that they need to take the servers down for a full 24 hours. Can't think of any other game with downtimes that long...
"In order to accompany the release of Patch 6.18 and the Japanese/European data center expansions, maintenance will take place on all Worlds at the time below, during which FINAL FANTASY XIV will be unavailable."
Data center/server infrastructure stuff tends to take longer than most things to implement for them. I'm guessing it's not as simple as plugging them in and having them work automatically.
Play something else while you wait.
Can get a lot done in V Rising in 24 hours. :D
Ok...so instead of complaining about something outside of our control...what will people be doing with the servers being down?
Right now I've been playing Resident Evil Revelations 2 on Steam and mostly just been playing the raid mode. Might be doing some more of that. If not I'll probably continue watching Smallville since it is on Hulu and I think I only got into 3 seasons...and I'm aware it gets weird...but gonna do it anyway.
I've been exploring in Kena: Bridge of Spirits. Combat's a bit basic, but the world's very pretty and the Rot are adorable.
Please go touch the unsundered grass more, gamers :)

I mean, look at 'em.
Omg I want to hold em and squeeze em and name em George!!!!! Sorry adorable things is like kryptonite to me.
Anyway can I complain then that since I'm an American I shouldn't have to work that day or any holiday even though I work in the medical supply company cause you know Holiday!
most people will be playing Sunbreak and Dnf duel anyway
On behalf of other civil folk living in the US, I apologize for the foolishness displayed here.
If memory serves me, they once planned a a FFXI patch for Memorial Day but ended up moving it after enough people complained.
Alright let's make sure no country celebrates anything anymore.
Edit: I mean no one will have a reason to bash other countries anymore or avoid inevitable U.S. bashing threads (though sometimes it's deserved, like this thread).
In the event of no grass, go touch an animal or insect that could kill you. Will remind you of how dangerous it is for the rest of us to go and "touch grass" as they say.
As for OP and topic, im not even getting the day off work. Aint no holiday to me. So ill spend maint at work and taking nap.
man just go buy a cheap pack of hotdogs and watch your neighbors blow themselves up with bootleg fireworks.
Dear OP:
Do you genuinely not have friends/family that you celebrate the 4th with, or at least other games to play?
If so, you might want to step outside of FFXIV for once and discover a whole new world.
Tbf, many folks are having an awful hard time mustering up the will to "celebrate" this country, especially for its "freedoms," after recent events..
By all means, tho, blowing things up is an appropriate activity.
