So .. mayyybe a /tail option would allow sets that unwantedly cut off tails to show them as well? Sounds plausible.
I don't think gatekeeping smaller fixes under the pretense of "there is a larger core issue" is a good way to get anything done.
Sure I think cutting of the racial features of the races is a bad thing. But ... in this thread.. in this case..
having an option to show or hide tails would be nice and would be adding to our options, not detracting.
As someone who loves options ( the more the better ), I dislike this idea, entirely. It makes little sense to choose a tailed race, knowing they have them, and then not wanting them to. If they go down this road, people will want Au-ra without scales or horns, or tall Lallafel. Some choices during character creation should remain meaningful. For example, when I created my Miqote, I had the choice of two sub-races, each with one defining characteristic; cat eyes or fangs. Now, I'd support the option if it only worked in the Character panel, not in the "real" world, just so people could see the outfit better. That would be fine.
Tails are just part of their anatomy. I don’t like the idea of removing them or even the option as it ruins the fantasy of the race.
You're joking, right? Are you baiting me or are you actually asking me to explain the most basic concept humans have had since time immemorial?
Fine, I'll bite: You see, there's this mystical object created by our bygone ancestors. Whispered and suspicious voices call them "Pants". But wait! It doesn't end there, as amazing as this tale already seems. You see, sometimes people can put things IN these pants, right? And when things are beneath the cloth of these """Pants""", they are invisible to outside viewers, despite still existing in a mind boggling pocket dimension known as "Inside Pants".
My sarcasm aside, you'll notice why stuffing your tail in your pants and descaling someone's face isn't equitable.
What a bizarre answer. Sorry your slippery slope argument did not work as again, those suggestions to change races in fundamental ways already exists in this thread and elsewhere. People can also love options so long as they do not fundamentally change the race. This is a response questioning if that poster really liked options.
As far as large tails being hidden in pants I’d find this bizarre looking and probably very uncomfortable. They’d also likely have to create models for many armors to have room for the tails to even be inside them given how tight many pants and leggings are. And again I think it would just destroy the personality of the race personally.
No need to be so rude and condescending unless you feel a but foolish for your earlier response which I’d understand.
Okay, so you don't know how pants work or think that maybe, at most, knee-length flexible appendages can't go down a pantsleg because of their sheer crater-creating girth. You are effectively beyond help.
I swear, for a community that plays in a fantasy realm, the occasional lack of creative thinking baffles me.
There's something even older and more mystical than "pants", though: bones. Tails have them. They are unlikely to be comfortable in the realm of "Inside Pants".
It's not just a piece of hanging cloth to be stuffed down your pants leg with no effect on either leg mobility or tail pain.
Really? Given the animations of the tails in this game, it sure could have fooled me.
But sure. Let's make this the exception and ignore the fact that these metal contraptions called "helmets" crush thousands of Miqote and Viera ears daily and we don't bat an eye.
This is insipid. I give up.
I mean, I just wanted to counter the argument that putting your tail in your pants was equitable to sawing off AuRa horns, but if you want to move the goalpost to the admitted graphical incompetence of the devs as of late, that's a Pandora's Box.
Like seriously. This all started because people just want to hide their tails. Others say it's akin to descaling an AuRa or stretching a Lala which it is more verifiably not. And now we're focusing on feasibility to counter an option that wouldn't affect you people anyways.
Is it selfishness or righteousness that drives you all? I don't know, but like I said previously, time to resist temptation and leave well enough alone. Not like the dev team actually listens to us anyways given last LL.
I don't know what you're looking at, but Miqo'te tails are in constant motion.
And yes, I do bat an eye when helmets don't account for their ears. The number of badly-fitting headpieces is astounding – even when they exist, ear pockets rarely fit the actual size of ears – and I wish they would review every piece.
Because you can't just put the tail inside the pants. It would look more akin to cutting it off.
I’m only slightly more forgiving with ears because they are a bit flexible but the ear spaces should generally fit.
I know as a human I have worn caps and even soldier helmets that don’t have special spaces for human ears and kind of pushes them against your head, so it’s not 100 percent unrealistic to have some squishing there. I know some people also terrorize their cats with beanie caps that dont have ears cut out and cats can furrow their ears to a large extent. (Viera probably need ample space though if their ears aren’t floppy). I do wish more effort were placed here in general though.
I would prefer that armor and clothing be adjusted to accommodate tails. Just as I am proud of my horns, I am also proud of my tail. To think that people would be fine with bobbing an Au Ra...SHUDDER! Iscah is correct. Tails HAVE BONES. The thought of having to cram my tail inside a pant leg is just, nope, not going there!
A bit of squishing would be fine, yeah.
My real problem (besides close-fitting hats with no accommodation whatsoever) is when they do add "ear socks" to hats but they're like a third of the size of the ears and possibly in the wrong position. It just looks silly, and uncomfortable if they are indeed getting their ears in there.
Am I mad? Am I missing something vital here?
Where in all of this does any of this say you will be forced to eliminate your own tail?
Why is everyone responding like this is some sort of base change to EVERYONES character instead of a request to be able to modify our own?
It ruins the immersion and, in some cases the lore of a race, if you start letting anyone remove what would be considered among members of that race a very important feature. As others have said in this thread, if you don't want a tail then change your race to one of the tailless ones. Please don't start messing with our tailed races!
I'm seeing more people ask for an option. A toggle, if you will. Not sure why people are so up in arms about that. The tail itself isn't the problem. It's the clipping through certain pieces of gear that some have an issue with, myself included. If people really think it's okay for tails to clip as badly as they do, an example being in a screenshot earlier in this thread with that chocobo suit, I don't even know what to say.
So the idea that someone might NOT have a tail as a tailed race breaks all possible immersion and you cannot think of ANY explanation for that in a world that has literal magical prisms causing plate mail to appear as a string bikini?
Or a world where people literally can drink a potion and turn into an entirely different person which ALSO btw causes every NPC you interact with to treat you as if you have ALWAYS been that race/gender?
Seeming like kind of a weak reason to tell people they shouldn't ask for something that in most cases could be explained away with "oh I didn't like how it looks so I am hiding it".
They are ALREADY messing with tailed races with clothes that ignore the fact we have them or that take them away so as not to ruin ONLY SELECT outfits (tell me where that tail goes in the skintight reindeer outfit now?), howabout we put the choice of what looks good on our characters in our hands?
I can imagine, that they have some statistics how many players want to have an option to remove tails. And if there are not so many players, then they will do nothing. :) Or it is not so trivial to have such options because they have to overhaul many other things etc.
Cheers
Tailed races aren't taken into account in development time or design. Clearly. It's the same thing for viera, except on occasion they actually release a tiny hat, and show a viera wearing it. Frankly, I don't care how many players want to remove the tail. It's a wrong opinion. Like I said, SE just needs to acknowledge they have tailed races. It's funny that they added another tailed race with the addition of Au Ra, after not accommodating miqo'te any longer.
Whats wrong with having the option? You obviously don't have to use it. Would seeing another miqote in a cape hiding their tail ruin your immersion? Just look at 5.0...
God knows we cant expect the devs to go through every single piece of old gear to deem what works with tails or not. If anything its like the weapon toggle, people are pulling out fat swords out of thin air yet nobody bats an eye.
Basically some people dont want weapons visible as they can interfere with outfits, why not do the same for tails?
No everyone should have too look at my beautiful tail, All hail my beautiful tail....
On the serious note i would not see the dev team go down that road of sloppiness. Though i love a lot of things in Endwalker the armors stuff is not one of them, I under stand that a lot of works goes into fitting armors to all the races but lets not give them more excuse for sloppy armor design.
while some people want to remove their tail, I just want a fluffy rabbit tail
I don't want them to implement this option and prefer instead they focus on fixing clipping issues or making sure the armors work for all races. Things like Moonward armors removing tails is a mistake that needs to be corrected. That said, if they were to spend time on this, I'd prefer that this was an OPTION from both the character's and the outside viewer's point of view.
That way people who prefer immersion and enjoying the races as they were designed would not have to view a large influx of essentially Hyur with animal ears which for some players would destroy the world-building and lore we have here. People who want to remove tails then can just see their chars as they like.
Again, I make the distinction here between having more character customization choices in general which I will support so long as they don't go so far as to have people make bizarre / outlandish characters like in some games that allow you to have a 1 inch torso and a 10 foot long neck as a human... and also staying true to the basic realities of the races being chosen.
Oh I don't care if they add a toggle. I just thought it was funny to use helmets squishing Viera ears as a comparison when SEs solution to them having those ears is apparently for them to not have helmets at all, and now people are asking for the solution to tail clipping to be... Not having tails at all.
I mean I kinda feel like adding the toggle just throws away whatever miniscule drive SE would have to fix the godawful tail (lack of) support but... I doubt they're gonna fix that anyway so. Eh.
Ok, but FF14 already has a way to hide tails.
While we're at it I would love the ability to toggle off the Elezen ear nubs on helmets.
It looks ridiculous. Every other media that uses Elves has them tuck the ears into the helmet. I hate the little winglets.
I love my tail and I wear clothing that works with it. Part of the fun of fashion is making an outfit work with your character.
For those saying that all they need to do is hide a tail under an outfit is not taking into consideration that tailed races are very dependent on them for their balance and agility.
What a dumb option.
No thanks. Rather they just make things not clip.
