Am more cracking up at the idea that Asmon has to be the one that asks this, and people are losing their minds, but this has been asked during the last couple media tours and is frequently asked at player Q&A’s if not for specifically Mythic+ then for harder 4 man content.

Like this is not something that would be asked of Yoshi-P directly for this first time.

Im pretty sure Mr. Happy has asked a version of this question in every single interview he’s had with Yoshi-P.

They can make dungeons more engaging and involve some fun mechanics, doesn't necessarily translate into difficulty. That's why I personally enjoy alot of the earlier content synced down, for some reason.

As a 16 year WoW veteran, I assure you, the WoW that Yohshi P had his developers play when designing ARR is a WoW that no longer exists and hasnt in quite some time. It was Cataclysm and Mists of Pandaria. Totally different era.

I don’t like asmongold personally but I follow his initial reactions as a Wow refugee with odd interest, the only FFtuber I enjoy is Zepla as she’s the only one that isn’t full of themselves as all YouTubers seem to suffer from. Oh and the chick who does the raid guide bless her heart

While still being able to never the leave the house and get his bills paid by playing video games. He doesn't deserve more/less empathy just because people put him on a pedestal. Other people have problems of the same magnitude. That's life.

My Problem with this isn't about harder content.
My Issue is the idea of making FFXIV into WoW.

Yes create some more challenging content including more creative and challenging dungeons; maybe as optional side stuff, or endgame content not tied to the MSQ, or maybe have a small handful of Hard MSQ dungeons.
All of that and a bag a chips, sounds like a GREAT time.
But no, get out of here with the idea of FFXIV needs to be like WoW. All those dumb systems can take a hike

To be fair, while I agree, FF14's deep dungeons are rather punishing too where a wipe at floor 199 after hours of work doesn't just downgrade your key, it wipes it entirely.

Punishing for failing is OK. If you do something wrong and you fail then you should feel some negative consequences. Rewards without risk are not fun. Humans learn through failing and not through achieving. What WoW does wrong is they reset many efforts you have already achieved when you fail. Resetting efforts makes the time you have invested in the game completely obsolete. And this is what frustrates the players and make the overall atmosphere very toxic. Because nobody wants to see his own key being deplated etc.

The irony here is, WoW makes the same mistake that Everquest did and where WoW had a clear advantage over EQ. WoW did not waste player's time like EQ did. In EQ you had lost experience when you died. After some wiping sessions on a raid boss you had to grind the lost experience back. In WoW this was not the case and the players switched over from EQ to WoW. But now, in WoW you lose some effords when you fail and this is what FF14 makes better.

That has nothing to do with difficulty and everything to do with the rate of gear acquisition. The solution to this, which WoW implemented, is to introduce artificial barriers to gear acquisition (like timegates and RNG-based gear stats). I don't know what kind of difficulty you're expecting from scripted content. When you bang your head against the same bosses over and over again, the actions required to successfully take them out become second nature, regardless of difficulty. The difference between a hardcore player and a casual is that the hardcore player has the patience to spend hours practicing their rotations against target dummies, beating their head against the same bosses, and studying up on mechanics. That recipe yields success regardless of difficulty.

You're kidding yourself if you believe that the presence of harder content is going to yield a pool of good players who are willing to teach. It just yields a pool of good players who spend all their time tackling the harder content while the rest of the player base is left to their own devices. WoW's M+ system is a failure for this reason. Proponents of the system say that it's fantastic because an M7 player is stuck at their level while the good players are rewarded with higher keys. In their eyes, stratifying the player base in this manner is justified by virtue of the ego boost that it gives to the better players. The fact is that it feels bad for anyone with friends because a M15+ player is not going to be happy running M7 keys with their M7 friend for inferior rewards, and the M7 player is not happy with the idea of holding their M15+ friend back from their rewards and higher keys. It's a garbage system that simply makes everyone feel bad.

I don't think there's anything wrong with casual players struggling through harder content on their own. It gives them something to work for at their own pace. The current system allows for friends to play with each other without anyone holding anyone else back. It's far superior to the mess that WoW has made of their game.

My mom passed away years ago, I also battle depression and anxiety, as well as OCD, agoraphobia and claustrophobia (a bitchin' combo, I assure you) and I still cannot stand to look at the stupid thumbnails he uses on his videos.

At this point I think YoshiP may as well just have a funeral for dungeons. They've historically been the first thing on the chopping block when they want to reallocate resources to other segments of the game so hoping they'll expand on them sounds like a fool's wish.

Mythic dungeons will not happen. Yoshi has repeatedly stated why.

Yes, fine. That doesn't have any bearing on the fact that he does this in nearly all of his thumbs. And his thumbs aren't screenies of a stream. They're produced thumbs. He literally takes a shot of himself making that silly "eye-popping" look, pastes it over a screenshot from the game, and adds titles.

Algorithm wouldn't push that image of him if he didn't put that image out there to begin with. Algorithm can't promote what's not there.

I could get onboard with your angle if the algorithm was just grabbing frames out of his videos, but it's not.

Probably because people are tired of the easy mode players joining the optional "harder" content because they want shinies and then decorating the floor the entire duty while they wait for 7 other people to clear the content for them just so they can roll a 99 on the loot and run off with it. So they'd rather the easy mode content get harder so people have more incentive to learn how to actually play the game. At least then the duty doesn't fail as often due to having 2-3 of these easy mode players in it since the odds of getting this type of easy mode player decrease.

They're opposed cause we don't have that type of content here, don't need it nor what it brings.

The game that has that content is still up & running. Enjoy!

It's funny people here ask for this because if you go on the forums or even listen to Asmon himself.. none of them like M+. They don't like the dungeons, they don't like the RNG it brings and they just don't like feeling like they have to do chores in the game. We wouldn't like it either, remember the RNG weapon from old school Dia? It'll be 10 times worse if they added this here. Not to mention the fact YP himself has said no on making harder 4 man content plenty of times already. I'd go as far as to say it's pointless asking for it because this game right here used to be harder. In everything. But guess why it's not. Because players complained things were too hard.. hell people in stormblood complained that the single instances were too hard. Yes those! It's why we have a VERY EASY MODE on those now. That'll be my guess why it's opposed by a few people here.

There are plenty of creators living off their YouTube content and Patreon exclusively that don't resort to this at all. Good content + good production quality + genuine passion for their content being very noticeable in the videos = people will see it.
Some are just more sold out and desperately clickbaity than others, nothing more. Its the difference between "I love making my content" and "eh it pays the bills and I hate normal jobs"

Totally deserved invite. He was a large part of shift that caused a huge spike in FFXIV players. Anyone who denies that is burning their head in the sand.

You don't have to like someone to appreciate the good they've done. All these new players have really brought a usually-dead time of a MMO (Pre-expansion) into record levels and I'm seeing people tackle content they never bothered with before or was hard to get groups with before. PvP pops way quicker, there are more players in the overworld which makes it feel alive, cities are absolutely booming, the marketboard is feeling really healthy again or items across all levels, duty finder feels faster. It's just all wonderful.

I know queues in Endwalker are gunna suck but it's so worth it for the life that's been brought to us!

I like dungeon and so adding a new layer and reward for running harder versions would be perfect for me personally. I'd play wow if I liked it but I tried it a few times and it's just not my cuppa tea.

I think it's more of a majority don't want the dev teams to put lot of hours and resources into something only a small minority is looking to clear/interested in - vs adding more content to the game.

You realize nearly the entirety of a dungeon's development hours will be spent on assets, not, say, on simply allowing players to multiply enemy stats by 1.5x?

You're effectively suggesting we continue to save less than a 1% of the resources required to allow for multiple levels of difficulty... only to then have that dungeon actually engage people for less than 10% of the time.

That is a far less efficient use of development hours than spending faintly longer for more lasting and engaging content at player-chosen difficulty levels.
