Those are rape statistics from 2010 that you've misleadingly relabeled as sexual assault incidents. Here are a few important things to consider.

What can I say... Good taste isn't for everyone (just kidding).
But I love how they look different from other races (imo aside from elezen, male au'ra and roes/roes but cats, other races are too similar and bland), and I find their emotes/glamours really fun. Also, if you want to play a female character specially, it gets really tiring to be into a sea of miqo'tes and au'ras, FFXIV doesn't really offer that much options for customization and it's quite easy to feel like your character is similar to everyone else (oh hey, i'm the 20544257345th au'ra with white hair and 2b glam!!).

I don't really see them as children, more like goblins or hobbits - simply small creatures, if you read a great deal of fantasy it's not hard to imagine them as people but small, the fact that many people simply think "children!!" shows such a lack of imagination. And I'm quite happy that they're potato-shaped and not "uwu children" like K'hloe, makes them stand out more from your usual "small race" in other asian mmos. Also their walking animation on cutscenes is so good lmao.

I'm a Fantasia-addict.
While Lalas are my favorite race to play, sometimes its nice to be taller and have a body shape and legs.

From a female western perspective: I prefer to play something that can be both cute and cool. For me, Miqote F and Highlander F fits that niche. I find that Au Ra (F) and Lalafel are far too cutesy and submissive (Au Ra) which is pretty off putting.

the same thing is on eu servers not just na , there is also some (peer pressure) not sure if it's the right word but on eu/na servers lalafells are not very liked and some people will not play them just for this reason , when you get kicked out of duties or treated badly just for a race you like in a game you will switch to another race to have a more pleasant gaming experience ....

Isn't this a form of harrassment you can report other players for? If someone thinks that's extreme, I personally would side with having Square Enix discouraging toxic behavior through punishments.

I have played since 1.0 and spent a lot of time as a lala (I tend to swap between au ra hyur and lala at random), I have seen this exactly never. I have seen plenty of jokes but I have never ever seen anything remotely close to this. the "lalafell = pedo" mindset seems to almost entirely exist just on these forums, its not even on the reddit. It helps that lalafell don't actually look like proper "children" despite what people ssay.

Tbh to some extent I think this has some to do with gaming or at least overall nerdy things having been more normal amongst women in the East.
And women do to a much greater extent tend to like cute stuff, in some Eastern games they even say that they very specifically make some of these cutsey races and characters for women.

I think this extends beyond this too, a lot of the stuff that gets demonized in the West I think gets demonized precisely because of how extremely male dominated nerd culture has been.
So a lot of people have problems sorta looking at things from a more conventionally feminine perspective and it's demonized and seen as negative, while exaggerated masculinity is glorified.
I mean even when you look at male protagonists in Japanese games and media it's not uncommon for them to be effeminate by '' our '' standards.
And intelligence tends to be valued higher than physical strength, being smart isn't seen as some negative thing.

Then you also add how since it's always looked at from a male lens, the existence of femininity or things that people perceive as '' girly '' gets sexualized by default.
So when a lot of people see Lalafells they look at it from the lens of '' why would a guy play this? '', and they think that guys can only like big burly guys because that's supposedly the only '' cool '' thing or things that are sexual.
So...
It sorta doesn't enter their mind that a guy might like cute stuff too.
It's the same with emphasized femininity in characters too, it's only seen as sexual and it's really hard for some people to even accept that people can find it cool too and that not everyone just finds big burly men cool.

I mean look at the movie industry too and you get an idea, it is or at least has mostly been about muscular men shooting guns with explosions going off.
In Japanese media there is and has been by far more diversity in what a '' male hero '' can be.
While in NA for a really long time the only thing that makes a man a man was basically Chuck Norris.

it's true they don't look like children to me they look more like puppies , and yes that doesn't happen very often it doesn't mean it never happens ..
i heared lots of lala players being kicked out of parties/fc for switching to this race not to mention the harassment some get .
as for me i was new to the game , maybe i am being overly dramatic and i should (get over it) but it still was a painful experience .and i didn't even know it was a reportable offence , i didn't even know that black lists existed .

Well I am not the kind of person to not do something because someone else is weird about it. People are weird about feet and that doesn't stop me from wearing my sandals outside everywhere.. And as far as i know parents are still allowing their children to be seen outdoors in summer clothing and bathing suits.. You cant really do anything about a thought in someone's mind. and I think making people tip toe around them types in a make believe setting is silly.. If someone just happens to find cutesy things sexual that shouldn't be me that gets punished for it.. shouldn't be my problem.

When i say lolita what i mean is gothic lolita. I know a lot of people seem to lump gothic lolita styles in with some aweful book someone wrote like a long time ago. I hardly see floofy frilly dresses that typically cover almost everything up being sexualized.. Again though I am not deranged in that manner so maybe i just don't understand. I simply like the aesthetic of my character looking like a frilly doll parasol and all. I think it would be cute.

People should not be repressed in any sort of way because of a few anecdotal cases.. imo. Fantasy is simply fantasy we should not be taking it so seriously... that is just how i see it.

I see a lot of streamers choosing potatoes as their starting breed when they discover FFXIV, because they like animals and things that are cute.

Personally, it makes me want to kick it like on WoW with the gnomes. Gnomeball

Lalafells are pure evil and are played by literal cultists, my dislike of them doesn't have anything to do with how they look.

Clothes looking weird on them is why most friends I have don't play lala or switch off of it after trying. They remind me of "big baby" dolls and I'm not into those either.

eh? Lolita clothes have nothing to do with Lolita the book or with loli? The maid outfit from the butler/maid set already fits the silhouette and frill quota of a lolita outfit, just lose the apron and it looks like a toned down sweet style dress.

Still, even with those people can and already have done some creepy stuff with it. It's not worth including more so than we already have now, even if a very small minority acts weird about it. My comment was mainly for an example that even if it is intended as innocent to fit a style, people will always make it perverse even if the intention is innocent. That was all.

And it's not as if I don't find the style cute, but everytime there is a race akin to looking child like in an MMO (TERA, Blade&Soul) and there just so happens to include cute outfits with frills or similar to a lolita style, people ruin it. It'll just be inevitable. If people weren't so creepy, maybe we could have nice things.

I really would be very hesitant on saying that certain races are going to be popular with specific genders or groups. That may well be the designer's intention, but it can be very difficult to put into practise.

Personally I fully support player's being able to choose whichever race they want, I find it incredible that anyone would harass someone choosing to play a lala- by that I mean spamming emotes, following them, kicking them, etc.

That being said, I absolutely detest the design of lalas, I find them saccharine -sweet to the point of ugliness with their waddling, and I find that glamour looks horrible on them.

However, all that being said, I still get a good laugh if I find myself ever following a teeny brave lala tank, so thank you !!

I think it's funny how I've met some people who are more comfortable believing Lalafells are grown from the ground like potatoes, because it'd be weird if they engaged in any kind of ritual that might invoke the natural birthing process. Well, have I got news for those people: yeah, it's gonna happen, because there are males and there are females.

Japan is more partial to the small and cutesy things than NA, and I think that is the main reason why there are fewer Lalafell players here. But anyone who believes they're honest-to-god children is fooling themselves, IMO.

Every time I see a Lalafell tanking I'm reminded of that scene where Lyse kicks a Namazu high into the air and wonder, why doesn't it work like that on Lalafell?

I am obviously generalizing, but if you actually look at the games women at large statistically play what I am saying is backed up.
The most popular genres amongst women after mobile games ( which has a lot of genres in and of itself too ) is JRPG's and puzzle games etc, the least popular are the typical '' dudebro '' and gritty games ( military shooters etc ).
I don't think that it's unfair to assume that this extends to the race distribution in MMO's too.
There's a reason why games like Genshin Impact and FFXIV have such large female playerbases.
Or why JRPG's are so popular amongst women.
That's not to say that there aren't women who play FPS games like CoD or an Orc or Undead in WoW or that they should be ignored.

I dunno about Lalafells in particular I mean I see a ton of men play them too, altho when I look at streamers most male streamers who play them basically play them for the meme while with female streamers it tends to be a bit more genuine.
But I was just making an overall point about the mindset behind it.
I think that a woman playing a Lalafell is less taboo and people won't sneer on it as much as if a man plays one and there is a reason for that.
I am not saying that the reason is good I am just making an observation.

I dunno if Lalafell in particular was designed with that logic, but I know that the Lyn in Blade and Soul were at least the devs outright said it.

It's funny you mentioned the Lynn in Blade and Soul, I was forced to select Lynn because it was the only allowable race for the class that I played, and I pushed the character configuration to its limits to basically make that Lynn look as grown-up as I could. If you know the glamours in that game, I was sad whenever I compared that character to any of my alts. I actually rolled one alt just to take advantage of the glamours.

My main is a lala bc I find her adorable and I love the expressive emotes. I find i can make many glamours work for her. I’ve never, not once thought of her as a child. I could care less what others say on the topic as well. My lala is an adult.

My alt is a hyur and is my irl height for times when I want to be at eye level with others, including npcs.

I mean there's no real arguing about it anyway. The game's setting and narrative shows us that Lalafell are anything but children. It's only us who insist on such notions for no other reason than 'they look like it!'. No one in the game's narrative treats Lalafells like Lolorito, Teledji or Tataru like little children.

In reality.. and unlike races like the Elin and Lynn in TERA and Blade&Soul respectively, the Lalafells much more compare to what western fantasy settings/RPGs/MMO's usually have.. Dwarves. We often just can't move beyond the design that makes us think 'little kid'.

What I don't like about Lalafell is that they look like unfinished artist renderings out of a learn how to draw book. The basic shapes are there but none of the finished details.
I'd probably roll one if they actually looked like something other than some balloons with eyes drawn on them.

I'd say this is true in this game.
I can't recall it has same stamp in FF11 but in that game starting stats had a more importance and tarutaru (lalafell counterpart and is based on) had bigger MP pool and i believe INT.

I play lala every once in a while, i think they can be cute but glamour is usually the reason I switch back to Miqo.

In my 8 years of playing and I play lala on and off. This has never happened to me or anyone I know.

Lalafell are like reverse Elezen in that they reach physical maturity far quicker than the other races. I can't remember where, but there's a nameless Lalafell talking about how he enjoys smoking a pipe after a long day of work, then a Roegadyn beside says something along the lines of "bruh you're not even 10 years old".

Hello fellow Japanese one! I quite enjoy my Lala but always I play the small races in anything that allows me to. There is most definitely a cultural difference between how English view small races and others do.

They remind me of halflings, dwarves (less so) and fay which are my preferred races. I have graciously never received unusual tells and do participate in the "memes". I find them more lighthearted then from place of malice.

I shall say this though! There are many many Lala themed events happening even on NA like the all Lala march. It was something! I do not regret participating.

I normally play a Lala because they remind me of the fae! I enjoyed their silly voices and mustaches but I switched over to human so I could enjoy some of the more sexy glams. Lala are great with cute glams that look awful on other races like some of the holiday gear but it does cut out a lot of other glam options. Watching everyone running around with abs in swimsuits and you are shaped like a cabbage patch doll can be lame but I would go back if I could have a chocobo inner tube.
