(This picture has all my ideal caster stuff, books, dogs, dots, and diagrams!)
Summoner: Here, I wrote down the mathematical formula for god.
I don't think crystals show up any more than other jobs. They mostly channel their own aether that kind of stores their exposure to primals. The arcane geometries extract that exposure.
Either way SMN lore is gonna have to get totally retconned. :(
Media Tour has always been a mixed kind of emotions. cant please everyone.
But they did say they built upon the Shadowbringers changes, so what i saw afterwards in the trailer didnt surprise me~
Tho as a BLM Main im happy with what we getting
WHM looks awesome and can’t wait to main mine
Tbh jobs being drastically changed every expansion isn't a good thing. If a job is functioning as intended by the devs, then all any job would need is upgrades to existing skills and either a new finisher, a new piece of utility, or some form of both in combination. Maybe some QoL to advance the rotation change for the new level cap.
SMN and SCH have unfortunately been thanos snapped followed by a Dynamis Dice roll to determine functionality every expansion since 2.0 because theyve been partially imbalanced every expansion due to their dual connection to Arcanist. I would much rather them be settled with minimal changes than have to have my world flipped turned upside down every 2 years.
I don't deal well with change and SE is throwing out a lot of changes with Endwalker. It's pretty overwhelming to be honest.
You aren't really summoning anything new with Summoner though (just the dragon and phoenix like now). You are just charging gems to cast some spells. Not sure if that's going to be an improvement. As a backup plan, I'm leveling Dragoon (which I really like and apparently is not changing much in Endwalker). So if I end up hating the new Summoner at least I will have Dragoon to fall back on.
To me the changes make the job more like a true summoner where you are summoning the essence of the primals you've defeated along the way. The changes look interesting to me but without knowing how the skills are played and what the actions bar looks like the jury is out on whether I will like the changes. If they are like some of the jobs I had to play as part of the Shadowbringer main quest scenarios that use a single key for progressive skills I probably won't like it. If the skills can be set as individual action buttons I can fire when I want then I will probably like the new stuff though I will miss the DoTs. That being said FFXIV will no longer have a pet style class which the current SMN is more or less. As I like playing pet classes I think this makes for a big hole in a popular MMO job class and could make for some player losses to MMO's that do have pet classes.
My thing is, "final fantasy summoner" has never been consistent between the games. The gameplay identity has always been kind of a mess between games, with summoners wearing more hats than just the horn. I didn't see a reason why XIV's couldn't be built off of dots and pets instead of, say, white magic and a big flashy attack. I appreciated XIV's unique take. :T
(I'm also of the opinion that there was room for more compromise between established xiv summoner and big flashy boom boom smn. But we'll see, hopefully the stuff they didn't show has more of what we've come to love about smn.)
I don't want sweeping changes to most of the jobs. Part of what excited me for Dragoon is keeping it consistent but with a needed facelift on old animations like Full Thrust and Chaos Thrust. While I'd like a little more going on for Warrior, I'm okay with the smaller additions for the same reason. Red Mage just looks like a huge QoL change with some visual flair.
All in all, I'm pretty happy with most jobs from the trailer.
