Correct, this is the law of GCBTW. Even when it happened to him in World of Warcraft, it was the Final Fantasy XIV community. The FFXIV community is so bad it transcends games. Such devastation is their intention.

Meanwhile, the ones who reported the trolls/griefers to Square Enix were in no way FFXIV players. They were card-carrying members of the sensible and mature Bureau of Asmongold Likers and Defenders (or BALD for short). Clearly, one of them was monitoring the stream to comb for bad behaviour. They must have created an FFXIV account for the sole purpose of reporting the ne'er-do-wells to Square Enix, then promptly uninstalled so as to avoid any appearance of participating in this degenerate game.

I think the reason it got so bad this time with Asmongold, is because we have four factions actively fighting about him playing. We have his fans who just want to hang out no matter what game he plays, his fans that insist he ONLY plays WoW and will go out of their way to make him miserable any time he plays something not WoW, FFXIV players who wanted to welcome WoW’s biggest streamer to their game, and FFXIV players who don’t want him here and will do anything possible to get him out of FFXIV (including using performance to try to get his YouTube channel removed).

You even saw this in his chat with a subset who consistently gave him blatantly wrong information so often that he stopped listening to chat.

Why is it all of sudden these people are forgotten and the sole blame placed squarely on the XIV community? Or is it a thought that Asmons community doesn't play XIV, but just wanted to see him play it despite their disdain of the game?

There were bad faith actors on both sides of the line and this 'this side' vs 'that side' bs needs to be dropped, along with the generalizing of each side.

Also, you continue the time honored tradition of ignoring what everyone keeps telling you, the people doing the harassing are long time players with endgame mounts and gear. Ignoring it isn't making us forget that, it's just making you all look disingenuous.

Personally I think the haters are pissed because neither he nor his viewers are shitting on the game. It's destroying the hate filled narrative that they tried to spin.

It's amplified by the fact that almost 100% of the bad behavior is coming from the FFXIV community.

It's also destroying the narrative of FFXIV having some sort of ascended amazing community.

Either way, I'm done here, going to go finish 5.55 on my alt.

No, I'm not ignoring it at all. I'm pointing out the fact that members of his community also play and may also be 'long time players' that you seem to like to disregard, but by all means condescend more. There is no need to pretend anything. Yeah, that dingus in the whale mount was a Final Fantasy XIV player. No one is denying that. Like in any game, some players are bad actors and we ought to acknowledge them when they appear. Report them accordingly. Call them out, or talk about it wherever you want. Just don't generalize about how they represent the "FFXIV community" in any meaningful sense.

I literally tried to point out that the people who reported the griefer must have been FFXIV players, but you don't seem to want to pay attention to that because it doesn't help build your narrative.

I didn't go and grief Asmongold. Did you? Are we not members of the FFXIV community? I'm sure most of the Cactuar server didn't bother Asmon either, nor did the players on literally every other server in North America, Europe, and Japan. The people actively trying to disrupt his stream represent such an infinitesimally small proportion of the FFXIV population, that they are barely worth mentioning in the grand scheme of things. And yet, you and some of the other "GCBTW" memers seem utterly obsessed with using these radical edge cases as evidence that FFXIV players as a whole are the worst people on the internet.

Also, it doesn't help that the creator of this very forum thread is a known troll who promotes this "GCBTW" garbage, and in other threads they pretend not to know who Asmongold is, or else whine that random players in Duty Finder dungeons don't play as well as they'd like. I don't want to be the pot calling the kettle black here, but it's almost like there's some link between those who cry "GCBTW" and those who are the actual toxic elements of the community.

I am sure the fact that they have FFXIV in their discord title makes them toxic too
lately the theme is, "if its FFXIV, its toxic and bad"

its like they have nothing else in their life to complain about
if FFXIV is that traumatic and awful in your life, take a break. no one should fault you for taking a break, stepping away for a bit

Once I found out Asmongold joined Cactuar (the server I'm on to play with a friend) I have started searching for his character when I log in for the sole purpose of avoiding whatever area he's at. I don't want to be anywhere near his mob of minions. I am sure I'm not the only one that does this.

The increase in log in time whenever he's on and streaming is not fun. Hopefully the bans they are handing out also help with that too.

Streamers don't bother me. The players that go nuts around them does. I'm grateful for the GM's that are out there preserving the peace the best they can.

Been playing a month or so from WoW, and only one time did somebody give me grief to this point in game. Still learning healing as I level, and a tank in a duty finder got upset because I asked him to slow down the train trash pulls as I was unable to keep up with the damage. I guess the sprout thing told him I was from WoW, and he proceeded to give me hell about crap players invading his game. I had no idea you could actually report this kind of thing. Everyone else I have met has been very cool in game

I am sorry you had to run into someone like that. Most people seem to be really good about someone being new if you tell them. When I was trying healer and tank, I told everyone I wasn't very confident in the class yet and they all understood. I ended up giving them up because I was always anxious about being bad and how it would be at higher levels. xD

The Sprout tag is the New Adventurer emblem, which can always be turned off by typing /nastatus in the chat window. Unfortunately, you're going to run into a lot of tanks in dungeons that like to chain pull and LOS the healer, sometimes forcing a wipe. Remember to keep Sprint available and use accordingly, it helps when I'm healing. When a wipe occurs, tell the tank to slow down, which it appears you're already doing. Regarding the Sprout tag and what it supposedly represents though, it won't matter much most of the time, at least not in my experience, it's still probably better to leave it on though.

the sprout tag does not mean you are from WoW... at all. nor does it mean you are a "crap player". I would have reported them and then black listed after the dungeon. you dont need that treatment

you can carry the tag for a while, even after experiencing a lot of the content. some tanks will always go full bore, the nicer ones might ask if they can pull big, so depends on your confidence level

a few will just assume you can keep them healed.

I main healers and there are some places I still dislike wall to wall pulls since some tanks dont time mitigation well and it can get close.

Like the others, I'm sorry you had the one bad experience but glad that's been the only one so far.

If it helps, the Sprout icon is for any new character that hasn't played a certain number of hours and made it to Shadowbringers content yet. I'm leveling up a new alt right and it's the got the Sprout icon as well even though I've been playing since HW launch. The game has no way of knowing what other games you've played in the past. You could have come from GW2 or ESO (or even have FFXIV as the first online game you've ever played) and you'd still have the Sprout icon.

SE takes in game harassment pretty seriously, far more than Blizzard does. They want all players to be having a good game experience. If someone is getting totally out of line and it's reported, SE will take action.

I think it was just a guess based on the number of players that have recently rolled over to FF from WoW. I appreciate everyone being so nice about it, but it is all good. I developed a thick hide from time playing in WoW, healers get a lot of grief and little love there. Honestly, I am still trying to process that SE will actually suspend/ban people who go full Karen

"witch hunting" is something from the past, finally these gatekeppers learned the lesson. Some take medieval roleplay too serious.

Watching today's stream, it wasn't near as bad but there were still some people killing Asmon's mobs and jumping on him and NPC with large mounts. I Hope SE gets those people and hands them a few days suspension too.

Over all people were less annoying. Asmon even asked once for people to stop killing his quest mobs so he can experience the battle part of the game.

The game does have a "select nearest object or NPC" keybind. I wouldn't think blocking quest NPCs with big mounts would be very effective.

and quests count even if some1 else kills your mob. maybe they wanted to help him to finish quests more quick. but for some reason - "blocking" and "killing mobs" is treatred like abusing. so why not

anyway, all this staff is like.. i dunno how to call it. Sequence is like this:

1. first ppl make hype-train that some public person (i even dont who he is lol) is coming to play FF (oi-wei, one more gamer)
2. then ppl decide that "mom, i'm on a TV" is a great thing, stream snipe that public person -> he get lot's ppl around and blocks and mobtrain and sosososos

Maybe the reason is not that ppl block and mobtrain, but that ppl try to make a hype-train from nothing? So many people care that someone comes to play FF? Why i haven't such topics in the forum, when i come here in 2010 :(

Anyway at the end of the day if you can get the number of eyes on Square Enix's product that Asmongold can maybe people will be excited about you joining too? There's a reason Square Enix is doing a twitch promotion right now, and Asmongold coming over is actually doing way more than that twitch promotion was.

It always was reportable.

Years ago the beach event in Stormblood someone decided to AFK on their big mount on the wall climb, and they got a ban. Hindering game play for others has always been wrong, and I don't know why people go out of their way to think that's okay to just block things other people need.

I don't think that's really the point, but on that note I barely ever manually click on NPCs, Retainer bell, dialogue boxes, Aetherytes, etc. I just bind the "Confirm" command to E and EEEEEEEEE my way through EEEEEEorzea.

I expect it's 99% these two which is funny when you think about it really. I admit to being a bit jealous of the ability to effectively sit at home in my underwear playing video games all day and getting paid surprisingly well for it.

But if you think about it, he streams like 8 hours a day every day and has to be entertaining that whole time. That would REALLY wear down most people fast. Honestly his "job" is harder and more mentally taxing than mine.

I'm glad that Square acted with haste before they ruined his experience. He has just posted a video sharing his first impressions with the game and they are almost entirely possible. FF14 is about to get an massive influx of new players :)

If you are from the FF14 team you have to react, it doesn't matter if that lead wow dev did it on accident, not on purpose, or just dumb. They have to handle this extra seriously, otherwise, they would let developers from another game influence their policy!! (again even if that wow dev is just dumb).
