My elezen is fine just the way she is, thanks
I personally don't want to see any drastic changes to Elezen. I've been playing Eva for 8 years now, and I'm attached to the way she is.
More character creator options for all races are welcome though.
This! I notice it's mostly people who don't even play elezen who want to change them. I like elezen because they're kind of inhuman and unique.
More faces and options will always be welcome, but they shouldn't go changing the actual body structure of a long existing race.
they just need bigger heads, that's it. female elezen look fine to me but they would also look way better with a bigger head. but it's far more noticeable on male elezen because they have such broad and flat shoulders that it emphasizes their tiny pea head. in terms of proportion/scale, they should make them look like edemont. he has a custom head (obviously) but also his head is slightly bigger, and his neck isn't quite as long. that's my biggest gripe with them as someone who has spent quite a bit of time as an elezen in the past, and part of the reason why i'm looking forward to male viera. good proportions, decent height, nice animations.
I'd argue that instead of a rework, SE's time would be better spent diversifying the gear catalogue to better fit the shape of the none waifu races. For example, they could do large, billowing cloaks that would work well with the Elezen frame.
I don't think anything should be remade/ redone/ reworked, but MORE options is always preferred.
I hope with a graphics engine update that the team can put in morphers to give us some level of body CC and more faces for all races. Being able to pick a different run cycle can't be THAT hard to add into a new engine, Sega did it.
I often talk about Guildwars 2..so sorry for repetition, but they often added hairstyles and face options with each expansion. For example, the 2nd expansion was generally “African/Middle East” themed, so the new options made for excellent options reflecting the people of those regions. Not just a goofy Afro, but actual legit and stylish options.
I would love to see some general new options with each expansion, and maybe remove the options that don’t really matter (like jawline or nose is really really not that noticeable….)
(Humans, for reference: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Phy...pearance/Human)
(Norn, huge kinda Roe kinda Highlander-ish, for reference: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Phy...ppearance/Norn)
Humans, being the most used race, get the most options..if anyone was curious why the difference.
the only things that tend to look bad on elezen are things that emphasize the neckline, armor with chain willl always look terrible because it stretches to fit and looks wrong. the head and neck are the problem, and you can literally see the seam of the neck
and how it works is that most races share a skeleton (male au ra, male elezen, male miqote, and presumably male viera share the male hyur body/skeleton), roegadyn/hrothgar share one, lalafell is unique, as well as male highlander. the same is true for the females but i think female highlanders use the female hyur one too
Bruh- I'm a fake troll fan.
100%. I like them because I love Elvaan from FF11 and Guado from 10. I even love the run animation that people seem to hate cuz it's a prim little jog.
Those who don't like the proportions of Elezen have four races to choose from. Five if you count Highlanders separate. If you want to play something a little different but not be a furry, you have... Elezen and Roegaydn which fill two very different niches.
But i like the Elezen Ladies :/ Only thing that could use a rework is their jogging animation.
I think letting us change animation sets would do a lot to bring people over to these races.
I don't mind anything about Elezen (the hairstyles I use the most work well to enlarge their head), but their run animation definitely only works if you're wearing heels. Could never get into female highlander because of that extremely stiff shuffling thing they call a run.
Need more leeway with the length slider for female Au Ra. Gimme.
Elezen necks are long so they can look down on you.
Big issue with changing models is that many who use those races are in fact happy with them. Changing the features might make lots of them in fact unhappy instead for it can be a twin edged sword. The director talking about looking at the models for Viera and making changes to them to possibly accommodate more hairstyle choices worries me a bit if in fact the new models aren't as nice as the current ones. I would certainly welcome more hair choices however and hope we will get news on the 9th about what to expect.
Wouldn't say no to some animations for Elezen getting a look over, personally I like Elezen proportions, they have a distinctive "fantasy" type look to them. Highlanders getting actual eyebrows as an option would also be nice, the draw on eyebrows just look silly.
I'd much prefer every race gets Edgelanders stubble from the trailers, especially since Yoshi knows people want it.
Elezen aren't human. Why should they use human dimorphism?
Pretty much this. Their other glaring issue is the giraffe neck but we have enough glam to hide that now. Overall, Elezen looks fine ... until they start walking. My groups used to joke that you can get around that by always walk with a weapon draw.
That's why they make great mannequin.
Think once theyre done with femhroth they'll like start dabbling with character creation, update and more options are very widely asked across all regions.
I think you're underestimating how much the nose and jawline matter. They can make a big difference to how the faces look. Some models vary a lot more noticably than others, but overall it would be quite a loss to character diversity.
I really disagree on them needing bigger heads. It's nowhere near as bad as the "pea head" you're describing - the neck maybe makes it look odd, but their shoulders-to-head ratio isn't really that different to other races. They're just a lot taller than humans but with the same head size.
I think the word you're looking for is "proportions". Dimorphism is "two forms", usually talking about gender differences like the drastic difference in Au Ra height and build.
Midlanders could be taller? I mean i love big ladies, but dang.
I just want Highlanders to have a toggle-able eyebrow option like there is in that 1 "old" male Miqo'te face and male Au Ra
Yeah lack of eyebrows is kinda creepy. Reminds me of that dumb kid in class that shaved them off for giggles.
The Female Highlander lips are so borked, the normal map doesn't work properly and their face design is just horrible.
The only problem I have with elezen are specifically their shoulders since it seems like because of them (or their small head) it makes them extremely difficult to glam. Especially male elezen.
I am perfectly happy with the long neck, and "awkward" proportions otherwise.
I actually think elezens are lovely. The only issue I have is the running animation, same goes with highlander to be honest.
Overall I like Elezen animations, The necks got longer? I have pictures of my Elezen from 1.0 and his neck isn't nearly as long as it is now, nor was the horrible break in it there.
I would like to see some updated things on us or in the least reverted? I have always enjoyed the proportions other than smaller heads. (again something that seemed larger on my 1.0 Elezen...)
Fix our necks and give us slightly bigger heads and more face options.
I think a lot of this stems from the change in leadership and vision. The vision for the original FFXIV 1.0 was to make a game that was a lot more down-to-earth and "realistic" (low-fantasy, if you will) than the high-fantasy theme park it eventually became under the observation of Yoshi-P. The Elezens' run cycle may look weird now, post 1.0, when compared to the other races' animations, but I'd imagine it's very close to how such a long but slender person would "realistically" run. It's more of a jog than a run, purely due to aerodynamics.
A fun thing to do is to look at some of the more realistic(ish) armor and weapon designs of ARR, which were recycled from 1.0) and compare them with what came after. Or better yet, search Youtube for FFXIV 1.0 battle animations. The amount of animation frames, crisp and overall weight that were present in those is insane.
That's not to say what we have now is worse, of course. It's more of a question of personal preference than it is of objective superiority.
I mean, sure, but we are talking about something hardly noticeable outside of our own character, that our computer is going to load for every character we meet. Surely there are more worthwhile investments of character options.
Like, instead of “Human, face 1, jaw 3, nose 2” we could see “human, face 1, body shape 3, body option 2”.
An example of some generic body shapes on humans in GW2. Nothing overly nuts, but you can have a more muscular or slender body frame. The options for the human male being body hair and muscular tone.

For human females, it’s more about legs/chest and level of fat.

This is by far more meaningful (to me) than a very slight variation between noses.
It applies to NPCs as well, though. You see them a lot more up close in cutscenes and people already remark on them being too similar to each other. Take away the face shape options and it's harder to make a character whose face is recognisable even among similar ones.
I'll concede on run animation. Outside that, I'm perfect.
In a perfect world, both is great, but I am running under the assumption that The Devs will claim they are limited by resources and can only allow for a few points of customization on your character.
My point is, if that is true, I would rather the choices be larger in scale. As in, sure, have the stronger jaw and also a more muscular frame.
And as far as faces already being too similar, that is also my point. The nose and jaw options are really just not that impactful. I’m am only advocating for the options to have a bigger variation, like as much as there is between each face.
All races but Miqo'te need a revamp, honestly.
Midlander: Animated like stiff robots in human skin. Female lack good faces.
Highlanders: No eyebrows. Share some of the stiff robotic issues of midlanders.
Elezen: Horrible walk/run animation. Female have tiny heads in large necks.
Roes: better face options would be nice
Au'ra: Goofy walk/run animation for males. Issues with horns/scales that are stuck to face choices. No muscle slider.
Hrothgar: Horrible walk/run animation. Can't wear most headgear. Need to fantasia to change between their ridiculously few hairstyles. No muscle slider.
Viera: Also have very limited hairstyle/options and can't wear most headgear.
Miqo'te: Cute/handsome. Best walk/run/idle/emote animations in the game. Lack of aesthetic/animation goofyness made them be picked by the majority.
And no one can say with a straight face that Miqo'te need anything. There is a reason why they're by far and large the most popular race if you ignore bots.
Edit: Aside from more facial hair options I don't think Lalas need anything either.
