It's a Japanese game, not an American one.
The main point is that November is very very late and they should have just been upfront about it and said "late 2021" or "4th quarter of 2021". Using "Fall 2021" makes people think September or October. It's a deliberate decision to make people feel like it's coming faster when it's not. Maybe I'm technically wrong about November not being in fall (didn't realize there are so many calendar experts here) but my point still stands, and Yoshi P himself even made the comment that they used fall instead of winter to make people feel that it's not that far away. This was a marketing decision through and through but it just feels a bit misleading. Peace.

There is no misleading anyone here.
They said Fall 2021 back in February. I thought it would be September so I was hopeful but now I have to wait very long and felt misled.

Anyways this will be my last comment here because everyone is just debating seasons which is not the point of my feedback.
you are not just "technically" wrong.
You are categorically, provably wrong. Fall has a definition; you opting to ignore that definition isn't a "technicality". It's outright rejecting reality and substituting your own.
Being snide about all the "calendar experts" is real cute, too, as if it takes much more than a basic grade school eduction to know what months people categorize as fall (which are traditionally october and november for the middle, with september starting it and december ending it).
Reality exists beyond your personal ego-centric perception of it. Deal with that.
Here in Canada, Dec 21, is also the 1st day of winter. But in reality, Anytime there isn't snow on Halloween it's a great year.
Snow doesn't have anything to do with the Seasons.
Seasons as based on the position of the earth around the sun.
Not whether there is snow on the ground. by that logic, It's the only winter every few years in southern states. Better cancels all games with a winter 2022 release.
People are talking about seasons because that was the crux of the thread and why you felt 'mislead' in the first place.
They likely didn't even know the exact release date back in February. They might have hoped for earlier i the fall but had to fall back to November.
Either way, there was nothing wrong with what they said. I'm disappointed it's this late too, it's perfectly fine to feel disappointed by this. Feeling MISLED however is a bit silly.
Especially because sometimes release dates just change. Sometimes things get delayed. If the game was coming out December 30th, within Winter range, that wouldn't necessarily mean they mislead is, it could just mean the game was delayed from their earlier estimates.
They wouldn't gain anything from setting up expectations they know would be let down. They didn't open preorders until after they announced the release date. So it's not like they tried to make people optimistic to grab a quick buck or something.
In the UK we use the term autumn instead of fall. Our meteorological office has the following:
"The seasons are defined as spring (March, April, May), summer (June, July, August), autumn (September, October, November) and winter (December, January, February)".
But really, what is the point of this post? The world has been and is still in various countries under the yoke of the awful Covid virus, causing unprecedented disruption to basically everything we do.
To make matters even worse, one of the core SE team has been battling a terrible illness, having to ask his doctor if he could be at the recent presentation.
And here all we can manage is a moan about flat earth date descriptions. 'it's not fall here'.....'oh it is here'........'oh yes it is '....'oh no it isn't'......
Just please stop this rancid ridiculousness. SE must look at these posts and wonder what kind of horrible people they are trying to please.
Just stop it.
Expac is coming out in November?
Sweet, it'll just give me more of a chance to get things n game and IRL taken care of before 6.0.
I'm happy about the release date TBH.
Nothing to do with Japan or Aisa
It is just how Northern temperate zone works.
Autum under Astronomical season is Sep 22 to Dec 21
Autum under Meterological season is Sep 01 - Nov 30
So, they are not wrong, you need to do more reading.
If nation from southern temperate zone is not complaining (Australia), I don't see why someone from NA need to complains
Yeah, but I figure it's not really that bad. They did say fall back at the announcement reveal so I figured sept or oct would make the most sense. Tail end of november is only really a month or 2 longer than I expected. If nothing else, it means I won't have to choose between this or Tales of Arise which I was expecting to have to.
The real kicker will be the 3 week delay announced around halloween. ;D
November is most definitely Fall. Have you ever seen Thanksgiving decor? I was also surprised by the (quite) late release date, however. It's a bit of a delay.
Sturm, I can tell you for a fact that aside from "they do something with turkey, I guess?" barely anybody knows anything about Thanksgiving, much less the decorations used.
I can't even buy a turkey over here unless I really go looking for it.
No matter how much of an economic powerhouse the US of A is, if there's a holiday only celebrated there and no other country gives a shit, then those other countries aren't going to know much about it, either. Kinda like we have our own holidays to care about.
I'm originally from Nova Scotia - A Blizzard could still happen in early November and it would still be fall. OP is either a troll or thinks that North America is all of America.
I live in Vancouver now and a cool 20 Degrees Celsius with a 2km NNE windfront and people will be donning longjohns. Back home, 8 Degrees Celsius is BBQ/Porch weather.
People will really complain about everything. November is still fall, whatever your personal definition. On top of that Japan is still struggling with the pandemic and going in and out of states of emergency, so it's a relief it's coming this year at all to be honest.
In Norway we consider September, October and November as Fall/Autumn, so they are not directly misleading. Plus they did say the devteam wanted a little more time to get things done properly.
Not sure what you consider to be Fall, but to me it is totally fine. Yes it is in the last month of Fall, but yeah.
OH and lets not forget there is still an ongoing PANDEMIC going on. And Soken even worked 7 months from hospital getting chemotherapy.
I would love to see if you still came into work when diagnosed with cancer? I know I would prolly completly shut down mentally if i heard I had cancer and work would be the last thing on my mind.
This. A large reason why I rarely ever come back to the forums. You always get an engaging topic and entitled people to debate stupid nonsense that doesn't fit their "logic" or "narrative". I came back because I wanted to congratulate the people who wanted Male Viera's only to see posts where "Oh but lets have a height slider" or "Wait no they don't look right WTF SQEX" and decided to not even post in those threads. Minority few but they tend to scream the loudest.
Male Viera isn't even out yet. To date, no one has ever even SEEN one and you have the complainers working OT on an asset that doesn't exist in the current game structure. If this isn't the epitome of entitlement then I have a ski resort in Ft. Lauderdale you might be interested in.
Personally I came back to see how people also felt about lack of Flight Unit mounts from NieR and express my two cents - more negative nonsense from the same kinds of people.
Now you have people like the OP saying SQEX are misleading and how Winter is actually in November because of where they live in America. Because a game designed in Japan isn't designed in 'murica and that according to their logic needs to conform to what the OP's definition of "Winter" and "Misleading" is.
Big Edit: If anyone quotes me and calls me toxic, don't confuse toxicity with bitterness. I'm bitter because of the wanton selfishness that some members display openly and think it's the "norm" or that they're somehow on the "right side of history"
I'll probably disappear back into the game and go back to largely ignoring the forums for another few years. Just seems like this kind of entitled mentality has gotten a lot worse and more salty toxic flavor.
And I return the Soapbox I stole from the last person.
I don't know what America you live in, but the America I live in (USA) Winter starts in December.
EDIT: Of course this is going by Calendar dates of when winter starts, not when it feels like winter. If we're to go by when it first snows, then I say people in Phoenix, AZ will be disappointed, since Snow may never come for Phoenix.
My residence however is weird. Sometimes it can snow in October for like 1 hour and completely not stick to the ground. Then in December/January it'll rain all night (when it should be colder than in the day) then snow all day and stick to the ground til the next. Then it starts acting like spring for a few days late Jan, but then snow again.
When Winter happens is not an opinion, and it has nothing to do with weather. Winter is always the same time of year, regardless of what happens to the weather. It can snow in fall and spring (heck, even summer), and lack of snow does not mean winter hasn't started yet. Because seasons are the same amount of time and at the same point in time every year, officially decided by whatever country you're in. In the entire northern hemisphere, November is officially a Fall month. That's just objective fact.
They intentionally said Fall because at that point they weren't far enough into development to give anything more precise without running a large risk of missing the deadline. If you heard "Fall" and decided that meant you could expect it wouldn't be late fall, then that's on you. That's not Square-Enix lying or being misleading.
You're free to be disappointed, but that's not on the developers or producers. Just be disappointed and move on, don't complain and try to make your emotional state someone else's fault.
I have snow from October through May, that's not a good way to measure "winter". It has a specific meteorological definition and that definition means it starts between December 20-22 every year, when the Earth's axis tilt causes the sun to be directly overhead at local noon at the Tropic of the opposite hemisphere.
I am more underwhelmed by how crappy the rewards for pre-order are. Specially since the release is 6 months from now.
As someone from the Southern Hemisphere I'd prefer they not say the 'season' for any launch date cause we're already in Autumn. Just give a month.
