Oh damn I thought death was invented in 2020 my bad.
This is definitely the response I'd expect around here but still. Companies even had to change commercials on tv because of it. I guess the whole expansion is behind schedule for no reason as is then, by this logic.
No need to be an ass for no reason. :)
The result was a blur of flowery and nebulous commercials that didn't have any real message and confused everyone because businesses weren't advertising anything anymore. This was not a change they had to make and it defied logic.
‘The New Normal’ of Awful COVID-Themed Commercials
"Despite all the “end of the world” jokes on your Twitter feed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the world has in fact continued to keep doing its thing … just in different ways. Capitalism, sadly, continues to “function,” and the various corporations that rule our lives still have products and services to push. But they can’t very well do so without at least some acknowledgment that a good deal of their customers are currently trapped in quarantine. Hence we have a wave of (rushed, aesthetically identical) new advertisements, often making heavy use of stock footage, actors and testimonials appearing via video chat, repurposed social media material, or a mix of all three.
And this **** is weird. Like, even weirder than advertising already was. (And that’s before getting to any of the regular ads that had to be pulled due to their spectacularly poor timing.)" - https://hyperallergic.com/559158/terrible-covid-ads/
lads why are we talking about the rona this much
I think the new job is whatever R’anjit was

Endwalker!
Yeah, I’m just gonna take Yoshi’s ‘hints’ with a grain of salt.
The end boss of e12 was speculated to almost certainly be Ultimecia and many were convinced the 4th healer would be Chemist, with strong "hints" for both ingame. In Stormblood we thought we were getting dancer, but it turned out to be nothing to do with it and in Shadowbringers we thought we were literally becoming the Warrior of Darkness and going down the dark/corrupted path yet nothing of the sort happened.
Enix like to go out of their way to avoid the popular assumptions and "surprise" us with something different. For the healer they even went out of their way to create an entirely new class with a completely unique weapon.
I'm almost certain it won't be Reaper or Necromancer. It will be something no one expected. Possibly even another entirely new class unique to FF14.
Unless I'm misunderstanding you here..
The reason there is no gunbreakers on the first is due to the lack of Allegans and Garlians.. they pushed the revolution on tech so fast on the source, with guns being very common over in illsibard that the Hrothgar made their gunblades.. Thancred even mentioned before he was called that he learned a new trick in Galamuld.. he was most likely going to show us his gunblade skills..
Now on the first no such tech advancements were made.. looking at the guards most are either casters or melee.. even the mighty Rokan empire never made it much further then melee an casting.. they never learned summoning as shown by the ink mages during Heroes Guantlet.. summoning is exclusive to the source..
Not necessarily, There does seem to be some who know (or atleast knew) How to do summoning's. Prime example is Ran'jits family line, Their serpents (Huracan and Gukumatz) are essentially egis just through a different technique we dont know about other than they are made from their blood so at least on the first summoning is a thing. But yes the first technologically didn't have a reason to make gunblades so none really exist, though one could argue that mana triggers are the firsts equivalent to gunblades. Also i don't think the ink mages come from the first since elidibus was able to pull wills from across space and time so they could come from different shards than the source and first.
Didn't they mention once before they wanted to include some kind of exorcist or onmyoji type class? Both have some ties to spirits passing on. I could see them making a kind of reverse red mage where it's mostly melee with a disengage to throw some spells. It being supposedly maiming gear makes it seem like a stretch for what I imagine the class to be though.
The end boss of e12 was Artemisia/Ultimecia just not in a form we were expecting. Eden's Promise is based on a statue of Artemis and Oracle of Darkness uses many abilities that originated in FFVIII's final boss battle with Ultimecia.
Chemist was for the most part the result of a red herring that concealed that the actual job hint in 5.3 was in the G-Warrior fight.Quote:
and many were convinced the 4th healer would be Chemist, with strong "hints" for both ingame.
Some thought we would be getting dancer due to misinterpreting Lyse's dress and kata as the garb and movements of a dancer. A lot of people were actively pointing that out as wrong.Quote:
In Stormblood we thought we were getting dancer, but it turned out to be nothing to do with it
We did become the Warrior of Darkness fighting to take back the night from the forces of light. The assumption of a evil/corrupt path was where those speculating went wrong.Quote:
and in Shadowbringers we thought we were literally becoming the Warrior of Darkness and going down the dark/corrupted path yet nothing of the sort happened.
Sage is hardly a new class (the name originated in FFIII as the final and most powerful caster job) and the Nuoliths are not really original nor unique being based on a reoccurring weapon system in Japanese fantasy and sci-fi media (the Gundam meta series' bits/funnels/dragoons/fangs have existed since 1979).Quote:
Enix like to go out of their way to avoid the popular assumptions and "surprise" us with something different. For the healer they even went out of their way to create an entirely new class with a completely unique weapon.
With the shirt reveal they played up and into the Dark Knight and Necromancer speculation. It comes off, along with them pointing out the irregularity of the Maiming gear and the unknown job being a melee dps, more as an attempt to point the player base in a specific direction rather than truly obfuscate.Quote:
I'm almost certain it won't be Reaper or Necromancer. It will be something no one expected. Possibly even another entirely new class unique to FF14.
I think this would be the most likely reason why it might not be a reaper, not some of the other reasons which seem like trying to find reasons why they don't want it to be one lol.
That said, Scarlet Witch = Red Mage was pretty on the nose wasn't it?
What about Bugs Bunny = Viera?
Those were massively obvious, wouldn't you say? Then we've Spiderman = Samurai which was a bit less obvious, for some, at the time (I was one of the bamboozled ones lol).
So yeah... could be.. but also.. yeah.. might not be lol. Yoshida has done us both ways, I did want to agree with you but I also wanted to be sure to throw a spanner in that just to make sure that it was stated the logic has gone entirely both ways (massively obvious, and then not so obvious). The only way I think I'd be like "seriously? That's lame" is if the shirt means either nothing or means something massively irrelevant and unimportant. For example announcing some minor enemy for the expansion = "...kay".
I still think while it might be reaper related that they wouldn't just call it something so... ... well like reaper. Should look into substitute names, and or other cultures like Japanese (for Doma), Middle Eastern / Indian (for Thavnarian), etc. While I had fun thinking of ways Necro like job might exist I never thought it'd be a necro (but might have some inspiration from the job since it was decently well polled a few times, surprisingly for a FF game). It's also why I thought (after Rymi's suggestion) we might get Ranjit inspiration since that character received, imo, abnormal attention to detail in terms of their abilities and also happens to fit a lot of boxes that we are sort of leaning to tick (dark, scythe, maiming armor, magic + melee, the eastern influence similar to the area we're going to be visiting, etc).
Also I want to say in my defense... the weapon type Sage uses I suggested similar concepts a few times in the forums; although, they weren't for healer lol. One was for Geomancer and one was inspired by Noctis (they were crystal weapons that looked like pylons, in my mind). Obviously not trying to take credit cause they also look like Gundam funnels and or some other characters. Just.. it was a suggestion in the forums too XD. (I've hoped SE goes for entirely weird weapons because I think they'd be quite neat over the 8th sword or another variant of an axe or something).
Assuming they're going as wild as Sage in concepts I'm pretty excited (not a healer main but it looks fun to play anyways, will certainly try it), I still really hope the dark imagery maintains for the job but I'm not certain it's really anything at the moment. Although I did really enjoy the whole psychopomp discussion and how it may relate into our relationship with Emet as Hades. Kind of hope it's true.
I was kind of disappointed by everyone jumping on the "Apothecary is a future job!" bandwagon from 5.3, particularly because it was addressing a story beat from 5.2 and people's reactions were the opposite of what was intended. Recall that 5.2 ended with everyone having a sudden drive to go out into The First and become "Warriors of Light" like Ardbert and his friends (this was later revealed to fuel Elidibus plan) and there was a fear that with everyone rushing out to play hero adventurer, there would be nobody around to actually make The First livable again. The First needed carpenters, doctors, merchants, guards, craftsmen, farmers, etc. much more than it needed "Warriors of Light" as we knew them. This was also the crux of 5.1 story in Eulmore, about how to get the Talos industry up and running again to help mend fences between settlements and literally mend places now the threat of certain extinction was over. 5.2 ends with a sort of bittersweet moment of our character wishing well a Hyur/Hume and Roegadyn/Galdjent on their path to becoming Warriors of Light but with the absence of two competent members of the Crystarium Guard being a concern.
Come 5.3, before Elidbus' final plot kicks off, we have a nice little arc with a Miqo'te/Mystel girl who wants to be a Warrior of Light but unlike the others we've seen, she doesn't want to run around as a fighting adventurer but as a traveling apothecary to treat the sick and tend the wounded. It was a relief for the scions and those worried about fixing the state of the world that there are people out there who will be Warriors of Light in many different ways, not just adventurers. Everyone jumped on this and thought about what combat abilities you could get from this role really seemed like they missed the point.
In short, cat girl was basically a lesson in "Disciples of the Land/Hand are Warriors of Light too" and people got too wrapped up thinking of a future combat job to understand it was completely the opposite of what they were reading in to.
I wonder if linking YoshiP's shirt with koji fox's shirt could be a good idea.
Why linking the shirts ? " Neighborhood "/"nbhd" made me want to look at everything next to yoship lol
If you link koji fox's shirt (drg at the top of a tower) with YoshiP's shirt, it looks like the Reaper is talking to the drg. The 2 are in a red background.
"The filth and the fury" makes me think of Halone and the heretics from HW : maybe the drg is going to war ? We all know what happens to dragoons when they fight lol
And then the reaper (who seems to look upwards) says "i'll be here if you need me" to the drg. Since reapers are psychopomps that could mean "i'll be here to escort your soul to the afterlife".
"Necromancer? What's a necromancer?" Someone who uses the dead in ff14. The one in Heroes gauntlet just picks up dead ppl and controls them to make them explode. In the bozja 24 man there's necromancer using Ghosts as well if i'm not mistaken. Psychopomps are reponsible to escort dead souls in the afterlife, so they could be the natural ennemy of necromancers.
So the key might be "psychopomp" and not just reaper, because reapers are not just psychopomps.
That way of finding that might be weird and stupid but... Idk it makes sense to me xD.
For sage the hint was: "throwing something at other ppl to heal them" and we ended up with a v Gundam lol.
If Gundam was the reference for sage, what if they did the same with the new mele ? I thought about shaman king (because the mc and other characters are psychopomps fighting at mele) but it can be anything with that theme tbh.
Thing is, they outright told us there was a hint at one of the next jobs in patch 5.3.
In hindsight, is there anything in there that hints at Sage?
If not... could we in fact be getting Mystic Knight or Rune Knight, using SoS as the 'hint'?
(I'm still writing off anything portrayed in Heroes Gauntlet.)
The model is also based around the 'skeleton' of Ultimecia's final form, and uses many of the same animations.
I never considered G-Warrior as a hint for Sage... and I still think it's a pretty tenuous link tbf, Sage isn't a magitek job, it uses magic and aether, the Nouliths aren't actual guns.
I think it'll be Beastmaster.
I don't think the t-shirt was hinting towards the job, but rather just hinting towards the WEAPON that the job uses.
That being said, the t-shirt had a grim reaper. The grim reaper is depicted with a scythe.
This would mean the new job is a scythe-wielding job. Who used a scythe? Ranjiit. What FF job is most similar to Ranjiit? Beastmaster
Be careful what you wish for. According to an interview with YoshiP in 2019, he said that it would be a limited job.
Quote:
By utilizing this concept of limited jobs, I feel that it could potentially open up possibilities to explore the addition of jobs such as like Puppetmaster and Beastmaster.
In FFXI, beastmaster was already considered to be a solo job and YoshiP has stated before about his distaste of pet classes so I wouldn't really count on us getting a fully functional beastmaster job in this game. The pets we do have keep getting nerfed every expansion as well.
In defense of beastmaster though, we have beastmaster NPCs showing up in the Bozja storyline so there's that.
Regarding the potential of a scythe wielding job though, scythes already exist in the game as BTN equippable items so I wonder if anything would need to be renamed.
If it's a full job reveal I think Ranjit would represent Ranjit :D. (Who himself is based off of Golbez and a Ravager job, Golbez being a big opportunity theme for the next expansion since next expansion seems to be hitting some older FFs and Golbez also would be the best candidate for magical melee heavy-er armor wearing job). Since I also believe SE listens to players.. I would be transparent in saying in multiple ways I've asked for a heavy(er) armor wearing bruiser mage job. So at least to me this would be "hype and SE listens". Also mentioning dark job and transforming (Vincent/Terra Brandford). So if they literally made a heavy (ish) wearing dark magical melee job that has transformations I'd be like... O_O; (Ranjit like job in maiming). I weep. Ranjit inspired job would also happen to have some beast, like, aspects which may make some people happy who wanted beastmaster (and SE not wanting to make a full beastmaster normal job, so like Dissida the job may have some aspects to use / fuse with). Some weapons that might shock me is I've hoped for Chain sycthe (with like bell or lantern), and wraps (scarfs, sashes, cloaks, etc - which would be good for a transformation inspired job as that could represent into their forms and add a visual vibe to the job when transformed). My fingers are uncertainly crossed, hopeful but not certain lol.
If it's not a full job though, then yeah totally.. might be a beastmaster (although the second shirt doesn't really read beastmaster to me, I know the first had that reference though). Beastmaster has been referenced multiple times as a potential limited job. Given the issues we've had, the issues they've said they have, I doubt the reveal would be for a full job beastmaster (however I'm not saying that out of "lame", I just have doubts it would be, a full job beastmaster could be really cool, personally still hope for those weird jobs like blue, like beast, to have both limited and full job aspects... I think 'that' would be most awesome).
We still have some other ideas, like Mystic Knight / Rune Knight (templar) - maybe FF got inspired by Death Knights in WoW? Or Judge (I, personally, don't see the reaper as a judge necessarily but maybe Japan sees reaper differently- things kind of shift when they're adopted partially by other cultures).
Like I joked before though, watch it be like Mascot job or something no one would have ever thought lol XD.
It's not "magitek" as we've come to expect from Garlemald or the Ironworks, but its still crystalline technology that uses aether and the "hint" doesn't need to be as overt as a character going "I'm THIS job now!". G-Warrior was as close you could get to a Gundam pastiche without actually causing a lawsuit (they even had the Newtype Flash) and the reveal of the Sage with "Nouliths" were even joked about during the reveal that they are a "wholly original idea and in no way similar to Gundam funnels".
So people latched on to the idea of job "hint" that was in fact the opposite of that and could never work and now in hindsight we have a pretty 1-to-1 of what was in 5.3 and the revealed job and you still refuse to see it as the actual hint.
Warscythes are already a thing that distinguishes between gardening scythe and scythe meant to kill people
https://c8.alamy.com/comp/2B1RKPH/po...63-2B1RKPH.jpg
Looks like plenty of DRG weapons we have now, including the new relic. Seems like a waste to have both Maiming gear sets use polearms, that would be like the next Scouting job using dual knives but holding them right-side-up
https://i.imgur.com/hi1MzDw.png
To be fair both of the weapons people have wanted the most recently (Scythes, and war hammer) are technically polearms. It's not like they can get clever with the weapon and make it a transforming weapon kinda like red mage does, the whole sword and focus into a staff is really interesting so they could go the same route as that in making it a "trick weapon"
I've seen the Naginata translated into English as a war scythe sometimes. It's something already in the game though.
https://i.imgur.com/NTdUiZR.png
Well we've scythes.. but do we have GREAT scythes? lol
"That's dum--." WAIT LISTEN lol. We've great swords, long swords, gun swords, swords with magic floating stones, and Japanese swords.
Just like if we add Rune Knight we'd likely just get Rune Swords.
They could fray hairs and simply make a distinction like that, not even have to try avoiding botanist lol.
Of course there can be neat interpretations and trick weapons. Like maybe it's a Scythe with a chain to a bell, lantern, or sickle (double scythe! lol). Etc. LIke the lantern or bell could be a key part of spells. Or if it's a sickle you might see it join to be double sided. I personally would have a bias to novel weapons so if it had some sort of 'extra' concept, that'd be cool. I was just trying to show that we could easily hand-wave some of the issues (if one wanted to).
Or..... it might be something else about the image was important and not that weapon specifically.. Seems like a decent choice for us to fix on (the weapon, scythe) given the image and then the trailer, but.. /shrug.
Just "scythe" is not enough to find a job. Even Reaper/shinigami is not enough, even if a lot of things point towards that.
The most realistic choices are :
- templar (same method as sam to find it) sounds like pld? And aren't they protectors for the church? We just learned that gods are fake so it's weird, even if it's for hydaelyn and zodiark.
- corsair (skull on red background) different but they don't want to make a cool and nice thief ? Well Corsair is : "dw i'll go do my pirate things on your ennemies" and they could be mercenaires too. But it's still a bit weird.
- Mystic knight ("nbhd" in arabic style) sound like a reverse red mage. Mystic knight seems close to templar, without the "knight of god" thing going on.
- death knight (reaper is sign of death), china don't like this word but they could name it fell knight. It sounds like drk knight. It sounds like a good name for a shinigami/Reaper/spychopomp (but templar & Mystic knight could do that too).
- beastmaster ("ill be here if you need me") YoshiP seems ready to make beastmaster a limited job tho (get ready for the pkm job that will make pkm fans jealous, smn is already doing it kinda).
YoshiP said no to necromancer and Puppetmaster was a no too.
Maybe i missed some other ideas out there.
It's not Ran'jit's "job" for three reasons:
1) We have three Asian themed melee DPS and it'd be boring and samey to add another.
2) It's Maiming.
3) It makes Ran'jit less cool to base a Job on him.
1) 3? I only see the two, and idk how it'd be samey since the jobs that are all play differently
2) Yea its maiming. Maiming is lighter armor so i could see someone fighting like ranjit does with maiming armor. Dragoons do it all the time
3) Manner of opinion so i can't really speak on this
Maybe it'll be something along the lines of Sice from FF Type-0? She wielded a Scythe and deals poison damage and can even absorb the "Hatred" from dead enemies which increases her attack.
It's not just sycthe though. Also the logic that gets you some of the in other jobs also exists for reaper. A major album for children of bodom is "follow the reaper". To be clear, as I'm not sure you are trying to add to me or disagree, I'm not saying it has to be reaper the reason why I started to say psychopomp is it make that distinction that it could be reaper inspired but not literally 'the reaper, job called reaper'.
I don't think it's reaper for sure, but I think it could be.
Also ranjit with his Sanskrit name fits well for our upcoming area, he's not simply some doman sort of inspiration. He fits many boxes you could check, more than most other options.
I strongly doubt it would be necromancer, though I don't doubt that they may have some inspirations from the concept.
So you said Death Knight and that would be, to me, just the same as saying it's reaper inspired. At the point you say that is possible I'm not sure if you were trying to agree and add or disagree but then you would be missing my point (I'm not saying 'its literally going to be called reaper bois'). I hardly ever talk in pure conclusive 'this is it's, just that something reaper inspired could actually be the concept (as scarlet witch and bunny shirt were so obvious, or it might be templar because of name play).
On a final note the post you quoted focused on weapons, outside of job concepts. Just the idea of weapons. So that's why I listed other weapons that might fit, or even state it might not even be a scythe. To say we might have had it wrong, maybe the idea of reaper was important but not the tool- and the trailer had some of misdirection. Etc. Which I /think/ I understand is where you were trying to go in response to me- that even if we know the weapon and the inspiration base doesn't mean we yet know which job exactly it'll be, but that's where I just wanted to say then you misunderstood me (if you were trying to disagree) or were just trying to add onto me (I'm not sure). As the intent of my posts I've never even tried to bother actually labeling a job's name exactly just the themes and general design thoughts that may be coming from the shirt, what might fit the game, feedback that I've seen, and general circumstances.
I agree that saying "scythe", "reaper" or any idea is okay. Nothing wrong with that lol. I just think linking theese ideas to jobs from older final fantasy is a good thing to do if you want to find out what the new job will be. So i just wanted to add something in a weird way.
All the previous T-chirts had simple clues "guns and gadgets=machinist", "scalet witch=red mage" etc. So if you want to get as close as you can, keeping things simple is the 1rst step imo.
If you take the children of bodom t-chirt, it's a reaper pointing at us. That makes me think about "doom" and "death" as well so "death knight" is the 1rst thing that comes in mind. I've seen that on some previous games you see the grim reaper when doom is used. Somme ppl say the t-chirt is just a FFIV reference, but it could be Yoshi P showing to us where to watch on the previous t-chirt (or both lol). And wearing a t-chirt just for something barely visible in the trailer? It's weird lol.
And for the great scythe idea, i don't think that some weapon called "war scythe" will stop them from adding new scythes to the game. Just like you said they can just change the name. They already did this :https://fr.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodes...78c96ac451cf4d Reaper could be just the name of the weapon the new job uses.
I just had a crazy theory about the new job.
And if all the hints were refering to Odin ?
"In Final Fantasy, most commonly, Odin will appear and slice through enemies with his sword, cleaving them in two and inflicting Instant Death. His ability in most Final Fantasy games is called "Zantetsuken." Other games allow Odin to damage enemies normally as well, should they be immune to instant death."
In Final Fantasy XIV, I'm not sure but the case about Odin isn't really resolved, isn't it ?
His gear and characteristics fit very well the next melee dps job.
"From his high seat, Odin watches over the worlds of gods and men. He is the god of war and of death, and warriors slain in battle find eternal welcome at the immense hall overseen by Odin, the famous Valhalla (Hall of the Slain Warriors)."
In next expansion, Yoshida says we will see dead friends/people.
So should we go to Valhalla ? Maybe the last true zone ? Would we meet his ruler ? Hydaelyn, Zodiark or someone else ?
In FFXIII Lightning Return, there is a whole story about this place and Lightning/Odin are tied to it.
By the way, here how it looks with the weapons in this game :
Doesn't it looks like a scythe ?
His type of gear (the one Odin wears in FFXIV) matches with the Dragoon one.
In the end, with all that reflexion, I think the name could be Death Knight and wears a scythe or twice.
What do you think ?
This sounds reasonable. I'd be all for a job like that. It probably be my new main! I love the Arcadian judges and their armour! Dangit, I need to fix my computer. I need that armour! XD
