Why is glamour shaming still such a huge problem in FF14? Let's fix it in 2020.

Oh OP is a troll all right. If you look him up you'll see that he and the OP from the catgirl/lightning hair thread are in the same FC, and that everyone in there has a "dude bro" style name. Also notice that only those two, along with one Hrothgar a high enough level to even post here. And notice that everyone fro. The same race has a similar appearance. The two 80s though do have some MSQ minions though, so they do seem to "play" the game some. But these threads, urgh....

Except for the fact that a person is allowed to dress their character in any way they please. That does not magically give people the right to call them a derogatory term. Succubus is the name that I MYSELF invented for the outfit after my friends said it reminded them of one. Imagine calling every female you see wearing the nier legs and bikini top (which is a popular outfit pairing) a slut and justifying it by saying "well then you shouldn't dress that way". Not that I care about these comments, but your way of thinking and rationalizing that is wrong.

I don't think I've ever been shamed about my glamour. I've had comments from people bu just brushed them off. You know the ones when you load in to a duneon as tank wearing platekini and you get people eye rolling and praying them comment about how I'll get killed with so little protextion.

Similar when I was running Dusk Vigil as rdm and had the shisui set on someone in the group asked if I was struggling in the cold wearing that outfit. again just keep quiet and move on. nothing sinister though

My only problem with all the provacative glamours is the lack of originality. Oh you have the 2b bottom with a bikini, Ruby tide, or hempen top you must be such an interesting person to come up with that.

This happened to me only once in this game. It was a stupid passive aggressive comment and I just ignored them and moved on. Truth is.. those types of players will always be around and the key is to ignore them. It's not even that bad in this game.

When I used to play WoW, it was a lot worse. There's an awful stigma associated to female characters who dress in skimpy glam. It automatically made them a "bad player". This would result in many unjustified kicks and harassment from players in the party. I recall one player getting kicked from a dungeon (before we even started), the reason: "go erp somewhere else!"

Don't get me wrong someone should play whatever they want, dressed however they want without getting unnecessary comments especially the disrespectful ones but that is not how reality works and therefore if you can't deal with it you should avoid having to deal with it.

Good thing that this isn't reality and its a video game. As I stated before these type of comments don't bother me. I ignore them and go about my day, but this poisonous mentality he has needs to be nipped in the butt because it shows extreme ignorance.

I would never think of shaming someone after showing such a display of ingenuity. I appreciate beauty and effort.

I'm not a fan of how most players glam or look - it makes me question their taste level, but it reminds me that they probably don't like how I look either since our aesthetics are clearly polar opposites.

The only time I comment about someone's appearance is when I think their glam looks really cool though.

No but really, most of the convos in Limsa on my server regarding glams is one giant ball busting fest about people's glams where it's clear they're joking. OP seems to have experienced a less-than-recurring sample of actual insult and now has decided to paint the game in jet-black because of it.

The reality of the mmo video game environment interactions is not the same as the real life environment interactions. I should hope no one really has to explain that to you or MrKusakabe how the differences are far too obvious and the similarities are not numerous enough to reach that sort of conclusion you both made.

On a serious note for any one who's genuinely been offended by a negative critique of their glam, don't be. Different people have different tastes. Some people will hate what you like and some of those people will want you to know that because they crave your attention. If they didn't want attention from you, they wouldn't comment. Give them a cheerful "whatever, dude" and continue on with your day.

Honestly, it's why I kinda lean into it in game. I dress my cute edoll in outfits I would never wear, from the hip to the badass to the outright sl*tty. I've gotten negative comments about it once or twice but I tend to just blacklist; I'm quite proud of my glam plates and damn anyone who thinks they can dictate what I wear.

That being said, I'm not most people. I know people who are self-conscious about their looks in game, and any sort of obnoxious negative opinion, or worse, stalkers, will ruin their self-esteem. That's just how it is. Just telling them to block and move on is good, but it can't be overstated that they also should be encouraged so they don't feel ostracized. Not necessarily babying them, but helping them get a better self-image to help combat the victim blamers like that one guy a few pages back. Obviously, OP is a troll, and most of us have thick skins, but some don't, and it's good to have empathy for them.

Look at the list titan man looks like a boosted character. :D Most of his minions are MSQ given ones mounts are all MSQ mounts. No way anyone playing this game for years would have so little in the way of mounts and minions.

I went back to look at the post, and it is wrong that they called your Hrothgar ugly, I think the colours on him looked very nice, and I always like goofy Hrothgar/roe outfits.

I was called a "ho" and "inappropriate" for my glam once. I simply said thanks for noticing.
