In the link he posted its outright stated that more and more will come with time.

We'll make more things compatible over time, bit by bit, but they won't be compatible at launch.

Also we did get headgear since the release of shadowbringer that work for the new races.

Yes, which in turn would be great for everyone since it would mean more rewards than just helmets that most of the people will just put away because the just look horrible for a lot of us anyways.

If you go around and limit something then you need to give those people something in exchange. Otherwise they are paying the exact amount of money as others but will get less for it. And seeing how their sub numbers is over a million with shadowbringers they will surely have the money to create a bit more than those few things for an event.

(But I am also of the opinion that a lot of their events are bad..)

Most of their events are filled with trash housing decorations. Literally worthless. I feel like the majority of last years events sucked butt in comparison to other years in the first place.

Easy they don't bother with hats. Hair, that's just on the backburner.

I know someone on my server who won a screenshot competition by squeenix and got the gaelicat hat as the reward. The only thing is, they couldn't use it since they are a Viera :I

Thats how you get these Companies to know the players aren't happy.
It's not like its the same person complaining. It's just a reflection of how many people dislike it.

The main problem I think is because theres been no update on the situation. New hair and helms keeps coming for the old races but hats and hair continue to not work on the new ones which tells me they aren't actually trying to get certain stuff to work on them. Unless they are creating a new system.

That being said I just went back to elezen. I don't see anything happening anytime soon so I'm not gonna bother lol

Before I waste more time, did they EVER say that hats and helms would be added? That ALL head gear would work at any point in time?
Cause right now there are a ton of head gears that do work ... head gear meaning things like Glasses/ visors/ mask/ face stuff in general/ horns. Everything but hats and helms. "We'll make more things compatible over time" =/= "we're going to make hats and helms work"

I mean ... "It won't be displayed, because those face parts wouldn't work in FFXIV's system if headgear were involved. Even Viera ears would've had to be moved down to where Miqo'te ears are. " coupled with the fact that even new gear does not break the no hats or helms pattern would kinda give you a hint that you shouldn't be waiting around for them to release hats and helms later.


(Also, read the rest of my post. I talk about how we get new head gear that works IF it's not a hat or helm. Why is that? Could it be that I'm right and they don't intend to make hats and helms work and that what they had planned for "post release bit-by-bit work" was just the release stuff that is legit every non-hat/ helm in the game?)

This isn't limited to Viera and Hrothgar. Devs have either been busy with something or are overworked trying to keep up with the normal patch schedule. New jobs don't even have any primal glamour weapons nor do they have ultimate weapons. Heck even the last expansions new jobs didn't have their own ultimate weapons. They look like they're struggling right now with something. Previously I thought it might have been the Nier collaboration but with the loss of a dungeon, I'm beginning to suspect something is up.

My understanding was that the old hats would take time to come around but everything new following launch would be compatible. Guess I understood wrong.

What's funny to me is there are poor sods clinging to the hope of male viera, but if the team won't try to do new helms/hats why would they make males xD

Doubtful. Excluding helmets and hats are a design decision. That's why you really only see masks for viera. I'm more worried about them not doing any hair for viera. It would be nice if they designed race specific variants of new hats for them, but that isn't gonna happen.

I think I misunderstood, so when I got to this event, I felt genuine disappointment. I completely understood and supported waiting on old head gear to be implemented in the game but I could have sworn they said new stuff going forward would be made for Viera and Hrothgar.

I liked this hat the best because of the mask, went to try it on and actually felt real disappointment. Sure, maybe I should swap from Viera but I really don't understand why new event items aren't made to fit them since it's after the fact. I just don't understand the difficulty here or why this wouldn't be a priority. Don't want to drag on and whine but wanted to voice my feelings in case SE sees this.

I feel left out of Heavensturn and it's my fault for choosing viera but is it practically confirmed that Viera and Hrothgar won't have headgear at this point? It's been months.

If they can turn around and apologize/fix the 2b small butt "error" after the outcry, they can make event rewards/mog station purchases work on all races. And if it takes pages of threads about this for the devs to care, then so be it.

My htoughts on the headgear in SHB mostly not fitting Viera is that they were not done with Viera when the team making the gear were doing gear, so most of the shb dungeon gear headpieces didn't work for Viera or Hrothgar. I am hoping - but not going to hold my breath - that new gear coming in will fit. As for the Heavensturn helmets, those are old models just redecorated.

I do hope we Viera get more hairstyles soon, I bounce between 3 at the moment. And WHYYY do the hairstyles with bangs have less highlights than the ones without, usually I prefer the look of the bangs but want more highlights :(

We can only hope this changes soon. Its very sad to see how little effort was put into the new playable models, especially how male hrotgar cant literally choose hairstyles. I can only wish they will get new heads, and both models will get headgear added sooner rather than later tbh

I believe they wont ever get helms, as that from what I recall is a design decision. If male viera are hopefully added I expect the same for them. I just think that we should at least get the new headgear thats released and some hairstyles

Since I usually turn off headgear anyway, I'm more concerned about getting some additional hairstyles. But I hear ya all the same!

^ in agreement, I kind of understand why older stuff can't be sorted, but new stuff not being able to be worn by new races, especially in an event, leaves me scratching my head in puzzlement.

The way I see it they have 4 options on how to tackle this.

1. Hide the ears when you put on a hat. They'd still have to squish some of the hairstyles for Viera as they can be very large and poofy, and do some modifications for the Hrothgar head shape and hunch. FFXIV Viera only have the ears as a distinguishing feature though so maybe less than ideal in terms of race identity.

2. Just let the ears clip through whatever you put on your head. Probably the "easiest" solution but they'd still have to accommodate the Viera hair and Hrothgar head shape, probably also the most sloppy-looking solution.

3. Modify each headpiece with ear-holes. Easily the most work out of all the options so probably a no-go.

4. Do nothing and Viera and Hrothgar can just never wear hats.

I suppose they could use WoW's approach. Allow any headgear, and if it lets your hair / ears show, fine, If not, then they're covered.

This is what’s really annoyed me. It’s bad enough this is the case with old items, but to introduce items earned via a new event that can’t be worn is ridiculous.

I understand some pieces, but others would be such an easy fix. What I find frustrating and is making me rethink my race is the hair. I spent a lot of time (and some cash) to use hairs that now are not allowed. That seems really unfair. I could skip hats if I can have my hairstyles back. There is no excuse for that one.

I'm actually so angry about this. It's sheer laziness. I logged on to do the new event today then realised there was literally no point as if you're a Viera you get no real reward for it unless you want an invisible hat. I mean, really Square Enix? This needs fixed. Older items I could excuse to some degree, but new ones? There is no excuse.

Yeah, there is you chose to play viera - a limited race with zero plans for headgear (rather hats, helmets, etc.). Either accept it or buy a fantasia.

I think it's actually pretty okay'ish up to good. Yes, uncalled for such a company. It does not make sense to wear a hood with such massive (and mesmerizingly beautiful) ears, it's acceptable in my eyes, but the longer you look at it, the more it starts to look strange.

That's not a horrible example really, not clean but not terrible.

However wider brimmed hats like some of the straw summer hats or the lvl 70 AF Samurai hat could possibly have the lop bunny ear option clipping once going out of the hat and then another time going down. Or Amon's hat with any of the ear options.

Your reward can be getting a house item(s) and sparkle things. Also you can get the helms in case you ever decide to race change into any race that can wear them down the line.

Also, they have made it very clear since release that hats and helms are a no go. Just look at the new PVP gear ... all head gear works other than the hat for healer. So yeah, they don't intend to make hats and helms work and they're not gonna suddenly stop making hats and helms for other races just to make things "fair".

Something people aren't taking into consideration about the Heavensturn helmets is that those are an OLD model helmet, just redecorated for each Heavensturn, they are not a new helmet.

That helmet wouldn't work with viera ears anyway. Half of the ears would clip horrendously. The ears would cover the stupid animals or whatever they put on top each year on the other ones too.

The only options they have to actually make helmets work are to make the ears clip through everything, horribly. Like with those hoods. OR make a unique model specifically for viera/hrothgar. The problem is they won't do unique models, and they are taking their sweet time adding any hairs, or options for hrothgar. Making the race more limited with each and every patch.

I'm not sure why they don't just let the Viera ears clip through, at least with a portion of hats. Terrible clipping never seemed to bother them when it came to Miqo'te and Au ra tails.

I am a complete ass hole when it comes to clipping, so much so that my character normally KEEPs short hair partly as to not run into these problems.
But even I was able to be comfy playing a cat and drago girl because the tail clipping isn't really noticeable most of the time. It's not distracting at all for 99% of tops/ bottoms. In fact, given that most glam in this game starts off for humans, I'd say that the cats are the least fucked-over of ANY non-human race when it comes to glam ... followed by dragon girls (The tall skinny peeps struggle with looking like their clothes are too small for them cause they were made for arvg sized humans a decent amount of the time, Femroe struggle to look female when wearing 30-40% of tops, tots can look hella cute when they wear the right stuff or they can look like a joke plushy when someones trying to make a sexy/ cool one and so on).

The Viera ears clipping all hats/ helms would just look like a hot mess. We already see how bad they look on hoods

Don't think that 2nd one looks too bad to be honest.

In my opinion tails look kinda bad on anything loose fitting, and absolutely terrible when wearing anything with a cape. Doesn't seem to bother a lot of other people though, which is why I think at least some hats should be enabled for Viera anyway.

Is the issue perhaps the opposite of clipping - that ears might float above hats and not connect properly to the head in some places?

Small indie company, please understand. But worry not! Modders can take care of this and even give extra, like updated HD icons of every item and skills we have, truly blessed people.

How about Hien pixelated kimono right in front of your eyes or absence of normal antialiasing in 2k20? And I'm not even started talking about outdated things this game have or how we got just old shiny models for hardest content this game gives for now.
