I don't want to transfer, so WHY are you forcing me to?

Everyone who does this IS an idiot. There are 103492385298374 (exaggerated number) posts about the world merge, a little bit of caution and attention over something this major should be standard. I'm not in favor of negligence or idiocy being fixed by outside parties, even if they are a big company like SE. The information is not only readily available, it all but beats you over the head anywhere you look, if you take the time to look. I'm sorry that they'll get stuck on a new server 'cuz that sucks for them, but at the same time.... why should someone else have to fix these mistakes when they're not only ---not responsible--- for the mistakes, but they provided tons and tons of info to prevent the mistake from ever occuring?

Of course you got transferred. If you dont want to change worlds *dont* put in a server transfer application. Otherwise the system is going to think you want a transfer, and if your first choice is full, it will default you to another. Its like the huge issue with billing, people just don't read before they click. Putting in a transfer application to merge into a world you are already on is

1) ridiculous lol..it makes no sense..why would you do that?

2) it tells the system you want to be transferred somewhere *other* than where your world will be merged. Its not SE's fault, its yours. I admit the coding *should* allow it to figure out you just wanted to stay on your default server...but regardless it is your fault.

If you dont wanna leave your world dont put in a transfer application. Why are ppl doing this??? What is wrong with the education system these days?

For one, this invalidates your original argument of why your behavior is acceptable. For another, maybe they should help out because it keeps customers happy? Maybe because there are all sorts of reasons why people make mistakes, and it's not as simple as "lol u dum?"

Also, here is an analogy. Let's say you walk into an English class that I am teaching. Earlier that week, I covered what you had to do for the assignment several times. You submit a paper you wrote when you were sick with the flu, lost your dog, had to work an 80 hour week, and broke your hand while mending the fence. The paper is terrible. I tell you that you are an idiot for making such obvious mistakes, that your excuses are BS, and that not only do you fail this course entirely, but the F will be on your permanent record and you may never retake the class again, effectively barring you from higher education for the rest of your life. Is that fair? Or maybe I should offer you a re-write, or at least let you continue the course and try to raise your grade or to drop it and try again next semester? Or should I not do that, as I previously went over the material, meaning that you should have known better?

It's posted everywhere. Lodestone, forums, hell even a system message when you log into the game!

People need to slow down and read. Kinda depressing knowing that's hard for people.

I'll take the F, its the grade i earned for my paper regardless of circumstance. I should have filed for an extension on the paper or at the very least made sure i was caught up before writing it. if it was assigned before i missed class (cuz if all that was going wrong being in class would be the least of my worries), how could it be based on information we hadn't yet received? you'd make a bad teacher lmao. If I earned an F, gimme my F!

Ppl make mistakes because they dont pay attention and they don't read. Most mistakes come from simply not taking the time to understand instruction. What makes it worse is that they turn around and blame the institution for *their* mistake. Of course thats stupid, ppl that do that are idiots. If you do something stupid, admit that it was stupid, admit that it was your fault, and only then will it be clear you're not an idiot...just someone that made a stupid mistake.

1) In college you would get the grade you get. I dont know what world you live in, but the real world doesn't cater to your mistakes because you had a bad week.

2) Its an entirely different scenario. There are no outside factors that could influence a person's choice to ask for a server transfer when multiple instructions were given stating to only do this if you wanted to be moved. The only reason for ppl *failing* to adhere to this instruction is simply not paying attention. Here is a better example:

You're an English teacher and you have someone in your class. You tell them in class that the paper needs to be double-spaced, 12 pt font, and submitted in paper form by the due date and time in order to receive a grade. The student was in class for this instruction, and this instruction was also listed on the syllabus. The following week, the student submits the paper electronically the night before, and does not bring a hard copy to class the day/time it is due. He receives a 0. Later, the student comes to you and says it is your fault because he turned in the paper. The rules said, in multiple places, a paper must be submitted in HARD COPY. What does he get? A zero. Why? Because he wasnt freakin paying attention..and didnt listen to instructions. Thats his fault, no second chances for him either.

EDIT: A real life example btw, though luckily i was never that student.

Normally, I would agree with you. But in this particular case, the OP states they clicked on their default server, which said it was full, and then rather than leaving the player where they were, it is now sending the OP to another server entirely which was never picked at all. If this is true, it shouldn't have happened this way. The character never left the pool from the original server so that is exactly where they should have ended up. Not another server that was never selected in the first place.

Should people have known they didn't have to do anything? Yeah, it was explicitly stated. But to pick your own server, be told it is full while you are still on it, and then be defaulted to a completely different server all together is poor planning on SE's part. They should have anticipated people were going to click on their own server while it was full, even if told they don't have to, and made sure the character stays put if a transfer doesn't go through successfully.

If what happened to the OP is true, this is going to be very bad because I am certain that OP was not the only person who clicked on their own server during the merge period thinking they had to do that to stay on the same server. In about 10 days time, these boards are going to explode. In addition, that kind of negative word of mouth is the last thing this game needs while trying to relaunch.

If OP actually picked Ragnorok, hoping to jump to another server when a spot opened then that's on them and I've no sympathy for their problem. But if what happened is what they said happened then yeah, it should be righted, even if technically OP is at fault for applying for transfer when they really wanted to stay where they were.

If she wanted to stay on his/her server.. you really didn't have to do "anything" and SE "figured" that If they do the application.. is because they want to move.. This is just bad logic on OPs and anyone else that did this.

So you'd take an F due to extenuating circumstances and be barred from ever receiving a degree? Sir, I believe you are either full of crap or that you did not read my entire post. I did not ask you if the F, itself, was fair. I asked you if flunking out of college entirely due to one F was fair. That is the analogy, as this player has already ended up in the wrong place and is panicking about it. They've already received their F. They aren't barred from higher education (which i assume means playing ffxiv, as you said barred from higher ed. meaning i couldn't get it elsewhere like another server) they just have to make new friends! OH NO!! and if a single set back derails your life or your characters life so drastically that there is no hope, then there really is no hope, but you're putting a lot of words in the OPs mouth and this is way derailed.

Back on track: the OP screwed up despite all needed information being readily and easily available, and now they should have to "sleep in the bed they made" to use a cliche.

SE as a professional game studio should not be making amateur mistakes like making assumptions. They should have made sure the system realized if a person clicks their own server it means they want to stay on it. In any case, under no circumstances is it ok to move a player to a completely different server if they apply to a different one and it didn't go through because it was full. It should have left them right where they already are and left it at that. To throw them somewhere else entirely is highly illogical and unnecessarily arbitrary.

lol your analogy is not working. The two do not compare at all. Being forced to play on a new server is hardly equivalent to flunking college due to one mistake. Flunking college is like not being able to play FFXIV at all...not just playing it on a different server.

That analogy is even more extreme than my own. It's a difference of degrees. This person didn't hurt anyone, so there is no reason why mercy needs to be so alien in this situation.

But, like I said, do what you will. I don't know why, but you obviously have your heart set on rubbing salt in the wound. Whatever that reason is, I'm sorry it has made you so bitter. I can relate, in my own way, so it's sad to see people give into such things. I was hoping that the players here would be nicer to one another than in other MMOs, and it is disheartening to see very little difference from it and the communities of games like WoW.

Last I checked, everyone who doesn't specifically choose to move to a different world are all going to the same world together. You won't lose any friends or anything unless they choose to leave you, so I don't understand what your problem is.

I'm pretty sure I'm not missing anything here. Since the servers are being renamed, it's not clear which world is the "original" world and which one is the "merging" world, but it doesn't really matter as the end result is the same. Unless your problem is the name of the new server, in which case I ask: Are you seriously threatening to quit just because the name of your server is changing?

Oh no, I'm on Trabia and being forced to move to Hyperion! Whatever will I d- oh wait, that's where everyone else on Trabia that didn't choose to transfer to Ragnarok will be. I haven't lost anything. Nevermind.

I don't have this issue, but I looked at the transfer page and thought "Am I supposed to pick my own server? Or this default option? Better not touch anything.". But not everyone, evidently, thinks like that.

They should have put a confirmation window telling players they could get kicked out of their own server or whatever.

Its pretty simple. This guy didn't want to change servers. He is getting moved from his server.
SE should look at their files, see he is currently in whatever server, and cancel the server change for his character.

SE failed at communicating and at customer care.

If you spill your drink in Mc Donalds they don't tell you OH WOOPSIE DOO, FUCK YOU! Hell no, they give you a new one free of charge.

And you certainly don't get an angry mob of customers raise up from their tables to cuss at the poor guy who dropped his paper cup.

Panicked player didn't read. Didn't understand. But instead of waiting around to understand. Instead of asking questions, the player decided to muddle around. Player screws up. Blames SE.

What you say may be true, however there is nothing in the instructions that explains what happened to the original poster. Again, it was confusion by the user [which did not lead to any user error], which led to the revelation of a flaw within Square's system.

There's way too much white knighting going on in this thread. What I'm saying is not wrong based only on the information given by the OP.

Furthermore, if what the OP says is accurate; there's no reason why Square couldn't, you know, actually use their customer support that sorely needs to be improved to investigate and resolve the uncommon issue. That's what customer service is for.

SE never said you MUST apply for a world transfer. People should be smart enough to know their character isn't going to vaporize because they weren't around during the transfer period or anything like that.

This is a world MERGE, with an OPTION of personally choosing to do a world TRANSFER instead.

Where did they fail at customer care? -partial edit- OK, so they did say they couldn't cancel the request. That I agree is a problem. However, Yoshida has already stepped in to revise the process at least once to change the process. All might not be lost.

Logic says do nothing.. if you didn't DO the Application.. what's SE going to do.. Stop you from playing? Chuck you in a Different World with different people in it? Well its not so much your decency that surprises me, its that you expect the community to follow suit. I guess it is callous of me, or cynical, but I don't expect anything of the sort from anyone lol. The world isnt exactly full of lots of nice and forgiving ppl. I'd like to say I'm one of the few, but I'm obviously harsher than you are lol. I tried though.

Here's logic for you since you seem to want to keep using that word: Why put the player's default server of transfer on their application at all? Especially if it would cause something like this because you know that's never going to end well no matter how you look at it...

Should the OP have tried to transfer? No, that's established. However, that does not mean SE should turn around and say: "Tee hee, you idiot, you tried to transfer to your own server and now we shall punish you by sending you to Ragnarok!" That's just beyond stupid. Would it really have been that difficult for the system to go: "The server you have applied to is already your default server for transfer. Application aborted."?
