This isn't your normal basic maintenance, mind you. It's a large infrastructure change. Maybe not as large as when they moved from Canada to the US, but it's a little more drastic than their regular upkeep.

I think it's more that Easter Monday is a "permanently floating" holiday, because Easter Sunday is (funnily enough) always going to fall on a Sunday and so will always need to be relocated to the Monday. So the Monday itself becomes the holiday, and might as well be official.

It is? Colour me surprised because I've only ever gotten one or the other off at the employers discretion. Checking on .gov and indeed there is only one statutory holiday which is Good Friday. Near as I can tell only Gov't employees get both.

Maybe it is in some places, however Easter Monday is actually it's own thing here (Canada); it's not a floating holiday to make up for Sunday.

I should have been a bit more specific. It's a Public holiday in Alberta, New Brunswick, NWT, Nunavut and Quebec (not sure if any other provinces participate) but it's not a Statutory holiday like Good Friday is.

Would you rather it be on Tuesday instead? Get one less day after reset?

I'd rather it be done Monday so i can have a fresh week to do everything.

Anywho, I do understand that several people have today off and it just being the NA servers affects players from other countries as well. I'm not quite sure why they can't just wait until the day after an ongoing event that has the dates of said event posted on the lodestone. But then it becomes, "Why not wait until the day after the scheduled reset?" And then we have players up in arms because maintenance is then taking place in the middle of the work week. As such, I still have to stand strong with my OP and say it is just best not to cut things so close given SE's history with maintenance schedules. Gotta be proactive.

Well lesson learned. Read the Lodestone. :)

Yeah, no matter what they do it will be convenient for some and inconvenient for others. People just need to learn to pay attention and take their lumps when they don't.

A holiday was announced long before that. I guess it's ok to take down your services on days when you would most likely have more people logged into the game than any other normal non-weekend day.

I guess not everyone knows how much flux Easter has as it can happen in late March til now all depending on when an earlier Christian Holiday happens in the year as Easter is made to fall X days after the other holiday that I can't remember the name of. So, really those who chose to take today off are only taking it off this "late" because of how late it can be in the Christian Calendar.

And yet they scheduled this maintenance anyway. Things to do, bugs to fix. To them it obviously wasn't a big concern. They chose a time that would inconvenience the least amount of people. Obviously it's going to inconvenience someone somewhere. That sucks and all but they're a business doing business things.

I don't have the day off work, and I'm American. It's not a national holiday. I don't even know of schools that have today off. Certainly not around here.

Some countries have the public holiday Easter Monday today (not the USA as we already established). Regardless of where they are from a number of players do play on NA worlds, hence why some are a little annoyed maintenance falls on the same day they thought to have a whole day playing... or something like that

I was just about to say this myself, lol. People need to realize that there are tons of Holidays throughout the world and it would be incredibly difficult to avoid them all.
That and to be honest I'd rather them do it early on in the week when most people are probably working than having to dread it over the weekend.

Too many people feel entitled here. You don't see me whining about the 4/5 hour headstart window I miss whenever a new beastmen tribe is released cause I have work or whenever a 24 hr maintenance happens when I have a vacation day.

Nothing says Easter like complaining about server maintenance in a video game instead of celebrating the Resurrection of the Big J Man.

Due to my timezone, I played on Easter Monday \o/ we're a day ahead over here. We get both good Friday and Easter Monday as a public holiday over here.
I did the event ASAP though, when it came out, as nobody can say what the future has in store.
