Notice the bottom pic is labeled warp gate. Seems similar to ff11.
With small maps I have a feeling that anima may be nixed in the world changing events.

IIRC it was stated that the warp gate had to do with some kind of event against the Garleans.
But..but...PERFECT GAME! GAME OF THE YEAR AFTER A MONTH! SKYRIM IS HOW YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO MAKE AN MMORPG! THE DULL, BLAND, BORING ENVIRONMENTS FIT THE GAMES ATMOSPHERE! etc.
I agree, seamless is fine but it tends to be either overly cartoony or overly bland because given that it has to be seamless...it has to flow well and therefore be low quality in many ways, like Tera's environments are bland, but the bright colors distract you from that fact.
In another one of Reinheart's pictures, it's labelled as being a warp gate that decomposes and then reassembles you, to and from the big Garlean structure behind it.
EDIT: Found it!

Can we get blown up pics of the rest of the maps please? :)
False. There are various seamless zones right now, North/East/West/South of each major region (Thanalan, La Noscea, The Black Shroud, & Coerthas; Mor Dhona probably too) is its own zone with seamless entry/exit, then you also have the seamless zone entries from the cities into the region and vice versa. Also other seemless zone entries, but all of which are easily noticeable by looking at your mini-map.
I've the same thought about him too, I just hope it is just for the pre-2.0 era myself.
That's awesome.
Yeah, he did! The translated map pictures posted by Felis are by Reinheart as well. :D

Arghhh! Can't wait for E3, i sooooo hope we get a live letter with more 2.0 stuff.
1.21 is great but geeeze cannot wait to explore those areas.
Skyrim doesn't have to worry about putting anyone but yourself and what is readily available on your hard drive in that world. You really can't compare it to FFXIV.
I really don't mind loading screens, sure there are lots of games without them these days but also lots that still do have them (and excellent games, at that).
I'm surprised everyone (who has played FFXI) suddenly forgot the existence of places like Attohwa Chasm and Uleguerand Range, especially the latter. Does anyone remember the days when you exp'd/merit'd off Demons and Eyes in the mountains? If that wasn't mountain climbing, I don't know what is.
Seemless maps aren't exactly an absolute requirement to enjoy these kinds of experiences.
This is the thing I'm looking forward to the most.
Yeah, just cuz a game has no loading screens does not make it a good game.
FINAL FANTASY 14. THE COMMUNITY THAT EATS ITSELF.
Nice, thanks for the pics.
Many of you complaining about wanting to run up a mountain is still capable of doing so in a zone based system. Its just a matter of designing the zone to contain this. For example in Yoshi's example, he could simply start you at the bottom of the mountain and have you fight up. What he was trying to convey was the elimination of the unnecessary and mundane things. Like for example a 50,000 yalm run from a valley to the base of the mountain with no real content in between. You cant expect them to put in mobs and content every 1000 yalms on the way. And even if so, you should only expect a kill 100 mobs type of sidequest because there is no real story behind the quest.
My point is, I wouldn't worry so much about things you will be missing in a seemless. In all likelihood, the most you will miss is a 30 minute run through a barren desert transitioning to a forest that contains nothing but music and walking mushrooms that would make you yawn. On top of this, I would expect a zone base system to free up much of your computer's resources. Allowing for more cool things to happen in that zone.
BTW, I also hate the boring quests and lack of content at the moment. But my guess is, he is trying to fix the foundation of the game before building content over it. Just keep your fingers crossed for a mind blowing 2.0 release where there is so much content we will be cheering Yoshi's name for the next 10 years. =D From the looks of those maps posted in this thread, it looks like that will be the case. I'm so excited.
Please keep in mind that even thought 2.0 is going to be awesome! it is still part of 'fixing' the game. Im not saying it won't have new content but it is mainly an overhaul. A content expansion, I'm sure, will follow on from that.
Well, if you take 2.0 as a fresh start then the logical next step, a year so later, would be an expansion like RoZ.
Sure 2.0 is adding content, but it is content that is either replacing something 'broken', e.g copy-pasta and UI, or it is filling a gap where it should have been in at launch, e.g PvP and Mail.
Do you see what i mean?
Awesome!
FFXIV is turning into a really good game, and the most important thing: playable!

Im really looking forward to this place.
Looks like there are a few ways to get in and out, like that cave on the top left.
