Why do I need to test a job that doesn't function in the full game and therefore can't be used in the ways I want like all other previous jobs to feel that it's a bad idea?

I've been talking to Brian from Work to Game over discord for nearly 2 days and it's been a debate at times but we have agreed on many things actually. His reasoning for why limited jobs are a good idea AT THE MOMENT is because of how some players act when there is an element of player choice in the game. He said his view can change to match up to mine later.
There's nothing wrong with wanting solo content and open world content. It's not a zero-sum equation though. There can be that content and still full jobs.
So you know what he think in generell of FF14 and the issues it has isnt it ?
Look WE ( and yaeh i mean the whole community which hate and love the now state of BLU) we love Final Fantasy thats it what brings us together... we all in sorrow or in joy about things like this...
But this isnt a another FFXIII triology, to have a fulljob who cant beat some content alone is also limited ... had u ever try to beat ravana alone with a WHM or MCH... wont work at all guess BLU is ideal for situations like this.
But ... againe let him grow into this game it wont destroy anything at all.
For some ppl its the worst case scenario, for others a blessing.
I wish DRK would be a DPS and not like he is now ... but it isnt atm.
I had tons of wishes which where never heared and brought up in the game... cause this game can't fullfill all wishes , and this limited job the first of this system is maybe not for you now or later a wish which was fullfilled but maybe for some other ppl, keep this in mind my friend. :)
I have seen absolutely no one asking for the ability of the job to solo content be changed or removed. It wouldn't be much different than other jobs soloing old content. I don't think blu should be able to solo current content and it's obvious the devs agree with that by keeping it level restricted away from current content.
Yes the game can't fulfill any wishes but what's wrong with you asking for them?
I've listened to several of Brian's videos and through talking with him that yes I do believe I have a good idea of what he wants and his current largest issue is clearly the lack of level sync and open world content.
I would like to do those things. I mainly play to raid but have tried everything else in the game outside of pvp and have enjoyed pretty much all of it.
I'm wrong for suggesting there is an achievable middle ground? And I know that they plan on increasing blu's level cap but they clearly stated that it will have a solo focus and not meant for group play.
You have a nice day as well.
Jon, ... i wish u a nice day *hug*
Its not possible to talk to someone who living in their own little world (cause u dont know one who would love to do things like that, doesnt mean there doesnt exist at all!)
And btw BLU is only caped atm to lvl50 with 4.5 and he raise his cap with 5.0 this could have many reasons but neather me or u know by facts what the point is of this idea!
For me so far im done here ,againe wish u a nice day my frind *wave*
I didn't say test I said experience, and mainly because it's not just about you. It's not about any of us. It's about all of us and the health of this game and the community and vision the dev team has for it. You can feel it's a bad idea but automatically dismissing the content prepared based on very limited information and no on hand experience is to be frank.. insane. It has more power to our feedback if we take our time and be patient and come with a more complete and well reasoned argument that doesn't boil down to "Well I feel like I won't like this content. Therefore I don't like it. Therefore they wasted time and resources." Come with actual criticism and facts to back it up. Not speculation and knee jerk fear induced reactions. It's not logical.
Now I want to end this by saying I do agree this does not have to be a zero sum equation in the end, but look at everything going on at the dev team standpoint and look at Japanese business culture. They are working on a massive two part patch to set up a massive expansion. In this patch alone, we're getting BLU in the incarnation we have been presented for better or worse, there will be other job adjustments and changes and potential fixes (ala possible whm and mch as mentioned in the Q&A prior to the live letter) a new gate, a massive new feature to the gold saucer (speculated as blitzball but could be anything), a new 24 man raid, two new trials (normal and extreme), a new dungeon, a huge msq, and a world visit system (god knows how complicated that has to have been to code.). All in the middle of a major expansion which will fundamentally change a great deal for this game and evolve it further, All while in the beginning stages of a major press tour to hype up the new expansion. It will be awhile before any major change comes to BLU in the form of a fully realized job if it happens, and they aren't going to say anything about it because it's not in the culture to admit something like that. If it were they would just outright admit Machinist has been busted this entire expansion.
You have NEVER heard of an idea in your life and instantly thought "well that sounds pretty bad to me"? Do I have to go to Shooter McGavin's house for breakfast and try it first before I can say "I'm pretty sure I don't want to eat that ever".
I understand that you guys think that maybe people on my side of the argument will enjoy the Carnival enough that we can accept it not being a full job. I'm sure some will. For some of those, not being able to use it in the content we want LIKE EVERY OTHER PREVIOUS job is enough to make us feel it's a bad design. I hope that you do like the Carnival but I still hope they scrap the idea of limited jobs and at the very least make a full version of blu. Ideally they would instead use blu to push or go past the limits of the trinity system like they should have rdm. The game's version of rdm is pretty fun though.
To me, the way they are implementing is fine, and sounds fun! So I am really looking forward to play it and unlock all those spells! Especially as a I do not plan to play it in high-end content.
Honestly, there are just two things holding it back in my opinion : no PvP (doesn't make sense), and the "temporary" level cap.
But honestly, with some "minor" tweaking here and there, I think it could probably be as viable as any other job in multiplayer content...
1) Do not allow queuing in roulettes etc. unless the spellbook is full (all skills learned), and you reached MAX level. (this way, you keep the uniqueness of the job of having to level up in the world and learn your skills, and on top of this, you will still need PF to acquire some of the skills like Shiva's)
2) They said you can select 24 skills. They could just use 24 default values when you queue in duty finder, and only treat those 24 skills as part of the job for the multiplayer content.
3) Do not add new skills to those default 24 outside of expansions, otherwise you would enter a balancing nightmare. (for example, if BLU was released in 3.4, do not allow the use of Zurvan's skill in DF before Stormblood's release)
4) After each expansion, you will have to go back to learning your spells before being able to go back in duty finder (also applicable for content you were able to run the week before! Put everybody back in the wild lands at launch! :p)
5) If using PF, you should still be able to select the skills you want, as being currently implemented --> this would have to be monitored and balanced too. Because people might just destroy every content, which is really odd, because this is exactly what they want to avoid, but at the same time is the only thing that is possible with the current implementation of the job : people will just try to come up with the most OP setup... It will just be restricted due to being level 50...
Without that restriction, blue mages would just destroy all content if they are as OP as implied...
Or maybe they should have strict restrictions. For example, by making it mandatory to use the default 24 skills for recent content, and remove that restriction one or two patches later.
5) Why no PVP???? Every class as a default set of skills that is completely different between PVP and PVE, so...why no PvP for Blue mage???
6) Deep dungeon is not clear. Is Blue mage to allowed to go there at all?
Or not allowed with a duty finder deep dungeon?
I mean, can I solo deep dungeon as OP Blue Mage?
I think this is the only thing that is needed in that content : a class to rival with Red Mage in deep dungeon.
Of course I have had that thought. I'm human. I even had the thought right when I heard about this limited job, but I didn't come to the forums and blow up about it, I didn't go rage on reddit. I took a step back and decided to collect my thoughts and let reason prevail. That's when I realized the few facts.
I am not saying that the carnival or the implementation that is going forward will change any minds. I have never suggested that. What I have stated and tried to get people to do is hold the criticism and feedback for just a bit (primarily when it comes to belittling the content or condemning it outright, or just passing judgement on it) so that we can take the time to EXPERIENCE it. That's been my whole point all along. Just wait and try it first. I don't expect everyone to like it. I'm not sure even a majority will like it. I don't know that I will like it, but at least give it a shot. THEN come back and make a reasoned argument for a full implementation based on what you have experienced first hand. It holds a lot more weight and power that way. What if in reacting the way your side has the dev team now has an excuse not to ever change BLU because they can make the argument "Well they condemned it before they even tried it and passed judgement on it so all these complaints are already tainted?" not saying they would do this but what if they did? You can't really argue that point. Because it is factual and that is human nature. There are a thousand examples of it throughout our history.
By all means feel it is a bad design choice, approach with apprehension, don't get your hopes up and be skeptical, but don't be close minded either. Give it a chance.
My other point is that we the community have been asking this dev team for a long time to take some chances, and do something original, do something we don't expect, get creative... this is an attempt at them doing exactly that and we are running around screaming like they just set our scalps on fire. We don't know what the future is for this limited job system or what the intent was behind it. Realistically with what they presented we know very little about this system at all. We know far more about the world visit system, the trust system, and the new game + system (which we know basically nothing about) than we do about the limited job system. It does us no good to judge something before we have all the facts. Any one with any common sense knows this is true.
So what I am asking for is patience, by all means approach with apprehension, have your reservations about the system and the job, but give it a bloody chance. Try it before you condemn it.
Okay, in what way do you think those that feel like I do will have our minds change? We want to be able to main blu in ALL content but keep hearing "you should get experience with it first before complaining". Okay I'm all ears. In what ways you do you think those of us that want to do current content on our blu with friends could potentially be swayed?
As I said. In plain English. I don't expect any body to actually have their mind changed. What I suggested was common sense. Wait and try it before saying you don't like it. You all heard this as kids I'm sure. I know I did. My parents would cook something new. "Try it before you say you don't like it! You don't know whether you like it until you try it!" Every child has heard that at some point in their lives. It's the same bloody principal here. It's woefully ignorant to sit there and condemn and prejudge anything when you have no experience with it and barely any information on it. "Well I hear all of this group of people all hate puppies. So I hate this group of people..".... "I think all corporations are evil and want to take advantage of me. So never go buy anything, don't work for them, live like a hermit out in the wilderness away from society."
Apply what you are doing to any other situation in life. in reality, and see how ridiculous this boils down to, and once again though you as well as many others have a hard time grasping this concept. You do not know that BLU will never be allowed in current content you just know that at implementation it won't be which. Given that it's a brand new system and a brand new job who progresses much differently from the others it actually makes sense to hold it down to the 50 content before bringing it up for observation and adjustments before bringing it up. Unless you can see the future and know when they bring blue mage up and by how much. We can't say we will never do current content.. because we do not have that information.
The thing about BLU mage is that its very unlikely we would've seen it in the game at all if it was to be implemented just like the other jobs and the way I see it, this is going to be better than nothing and probably will be enjoyable as it is. I also have hope for the future. I hope that one day we can see BLU implemented in a way that lets it play with the other jobs. We already know the level cap will eventually increase and the thing about MMO's is that there are changes brought to the game consistently. So even though BLU mage is not implemented in a way that allows it to play max level content currently, theres nothing say it never will be able to. This is new. This is experimental. It's a very exciting time to see what will happen.
If you want the dev's to actually make changes to BLU then you guys need to do the following:
play BLU to max level. Learn it extensively. Learn tons of abilities. Play the blu solo content. and after doing all of that leave forum feedback for the devs. Tell them what you like. Tell them what you don't like. And respectfully tell them what you'd like them to change.
Again people that are making this argument can't give us an example of how they might address being unable to play blu with friends in current content outside of "it might later on" and "this could be a beta phase" to which we agreed that the backlash would go away if they were to tell us that. The content for blu could be amazing, but if it's always going to have these limitations, then no amount of amazing solo content will make things right for people on my side.
And once again the opposition is trying to muddy the waters and put words in people’s mouths that they didn’t say or implement to try to strengthen their emotion based reaction. What I have argued for and continue to do so trying to find new and simpler ways to put the phrase WE DONT KNOW. So everyone doesn’t just condemn something before we have any actual constructive feedback to give the dev team on it.
Is this really that hard of a concept. A thousand posts have been made on how it could work. But what do all those posts lack? Fact on how it works now and lack of information of what the future entails for blue mage.
We rejected the idea of fear influencing our decisions. Decided to embrace it long enough to get experience on it before we give feedback and we are the enemy? So logic and reason and common sense mean nothing? Let’s just twist each other’s words around to suit our own purposes. because that’s what rational people do who are thinking logically.
Fun for one. TT rules in this game need some tweaking so 4 star cards aren't worthless which is another issue.
But what's the point of that you ask? What's the point of chocobo racing? Why do anything outside of weekly lockouts at end game and, depending on how much you like monotony, throwing yourself at Eureka? What's the point of aiming for the rare fish added every patch?
There is no point. If you disregard the concept of fun even something with potential financial gain as fishing can be overshadowed by other activities. The real question will be how good is the Masked Carnival. If Blue Mage has an end game that has longevity (which it MUST have because you WILL eventually collect every ability) than there is no problem. If not, then there's a problem.
Frankly if we were in a literal "it's either this or nothing" situation than I'd rather have this. I have no desire to converse on how they could have trimmed it to make it fit because that's not what happened. They had decisions, and they made one as opposed to sticking to what yoshi said 4 years ago and giving us nothing instead. So I'll take it. And if we're going to be really really honest. I had absolutely no expectations of something like mime (and especially calculator) every making it's way into this game. Maybe it can now.
That message was from 2 years ago... you didnt even had an account by that time
BLU has a lot of replay value to me. If BLU wasn't locked out of Duty Finder, BLU would have probably been my main job. I love how hybrid it is. When my survival rate at Lv60 BLU is 90% higher than me as a tank with a chocobo healer, I'm sold.
Nice Necrobump. Anyway I came here looking to see peoples reactions to level 70BLU cap and being locked out of Ultimate cause it would make people whopayed moneystruggled with Ultimates angry.
Why have you forsaken us, SE?
At least give a better excuse than it'll attract rage from others. We get that regularly. If you're going to keep us out of regular duty finder, at least open up the rest.
The lack of ultimate upsets me. They could at least just copy/paste the entire fight and make it so only BLU can enter that variant, with an exclusive golden cane for doing it, and an exclusive title. That way doing it on BLU doesn't count for regular ultimate, you just get the BLU ultimate clear, not the regular ultimate clear.
I’m glad it can’t go into ultimate. SE would need to add multiple LB-like abilities to fix the gaps in its kit. And it still needs to fix other major gaps in its Tanking/Healing kit that would make it an absolute chore to fit in properly.
The weakest part of their reasoning is that they let undersize party go on for so long, honestly. They didnt seem to care about people that cleared content when it was hard and relelvant very much before. But at least we got a clear answer on BLU, Its just going to be your Stormblood fate grinding job now it seems Ixion Fate, beware! BLU is coming for you next!
Because clearing Savage turns is a good thing but not an "achievement". Having someone kill it in "easy mode" 2 years later doesn't devalue anything because those turns are irrelevant today.
It is entirely different for ultimate. There can't be an easy mode, else the value of it crashes. Clearing UCOB, UWU or TEA today even months after world 1st is still an achievement even if it is old content, since it's the hardest piece of content in the game and still is relevant. You're a top 1%. I don't think with blu suddenly 15% would clear but I understand Square won't take that risk, and I'm with them on that.
I think BLU isn't as bad as people make it out to be. Skill hunting is fun and I have a reason to go through the gorgeous overworld. But at the same time it's a let down for people who wanted BLU as a main. Or that it's always lagging behind level wise. And it's a crime when you compare it to XI's version, honestly.
BLU is absolutely fun. Everything about it is super cool. The problem is in the fact that I want to be able to progress the game as a BLU because it’s so fun. Blue Mage makes it so painfully obvious that some of the other jobs should have better CC options, and make even their own instant death type spells. Most of all, I don’t want to always have to be grouped with another BLU. One of the best things about normal progression is seeing the variety of jobs that you might be matched with.
Blu is exactly why other jobs don't have CC options or instant death. It makes some content trivial. It also makes those job far more desired than others. Nin can now instant KO any single lesser enemy on a 90 second cooldown. Why bring a Drg when you can bring 4-5 Nin that do effectively 10x the DPS when you consider they eliminate enemies other job have to damage down?
I enjoy Blu a lot. I think they should be allowed in roulette for old content like alliance raid and main story; but I understand why they're not at 80 or allowed in certain content.
We used to HAVE CC options on all the classes back in ARR (if you remember). MNK and BRD could silence, MNK and DRG could stun, NIN could do both (but had to switch stances and use the same move to do either), BLM and WHM could put enemies to sleep, SMN and WHM could heavy, etc. It didn't break the game, and the raids were actually designed around having to CC to deal with enemies (again, if you remember). In quite a few of them you had to keep enemies away from party members or bosses using CC in order to avoid 1-shot mechanics or other annoying things. But the casual subset of the playerbase, in its infinite complaining, resulted in a lot of those moves being taken out or stripped of their CC.
I mean, there’s a lot missing from those other jobs in the first place, ergo many people have voiced concerns not only over homogenization, but also the odd skill gaps in earlier levels due to pruning between xpacs. BLU only makes things seem trivial because it’s using the max armor level set to clear an entire expansions worth of content. Idk why you would presume NIN would be the only one getting new toys. There should be nothing wrong with Black Mage having “Death”, or Samurai having “Zantetsuken”, or Summoner getting a Summon Odin. Hell Ninja could even get a Mijin Gakure on par with Self-Destruct if they would finally give Healers a Re-Raise. In addition, BLU makes things trivial because instead of gating spell slots by level, they decided to let BLU go wild with having all spell slots available from level 1, meaning you don’t lose spells like other jobs do when you sync.
Second of all, the only real trivializing CC is Freeze/Petrify, which after playing a lot of tank BLU, I wish they would alter that type of CC to severely reduce damage to enemies while they are effected by it. Reason being is that I cannot stand when I’m playing tank BLU and DPS freeze my pull like as if it’s the optimal way to damage. People wouldn’t use it so haphazardly if there was a drawback to it.
I don’t generally have a problem with any job being able to trivialize trash- it’s called trash for a reason. The strategy of AoEing down mobs by pulling 2-3 camps is already trivial in the first place. On the other side of that, I do have a problem with trivializing bosses- even in the BLU only content which is an easy and obvious fix of giving bosses immunity.
The worse thing that could go wrong with having BLU in duty finder is that people don’t set up their spells optimally- which I see all the time running with other BLU- and while it’s annoying I usually take the time out to set them straight or help them farm spells. But on the other side of that, if BLU *was* allowed in duty finder, then they’d be much more likely to learn their spells at a fast and consistent rate, while naturally learning the job and the limits of every ability.
