This game has pvp?
I wish that the dev team could understand that just because something is successful (data-wise) doesn't necessarily mean it's fun. It's easy to look at the data and see lots of people in Pyros and conclude that it must be successful. It's also easy to look at the leaderboards in PVP and see that there are indeed people trying to climb the ladder.
But in both cases, these layers of RNG are not fun and don't lend themselves very well to encouraging people to continue.
Remember when we got new hairstyles and emotes immediately?
Honestly I don't think putting items behind gated content is a bad thing. Incentives to do the content are nothing new in gaming and content should have rewards for a job well done to keep people coming back. The issue here I feel is with the content itself. I don't feel like anyone would complain if the majority of people actually enjoyed PVP or Eureka. Yet the rewards feel like little more than a carrot on a proverbial stick to bolster the numbers of unpopular content as opposed to feeling like something truly well earned and worth obtaining. When people feel forced to do something they dislike and know no amount of feedback is going to fix, it's hard to blame them for feeling bitter.
It's called the relic weapon/gear (plus some mounts and minions related to the area), PvP also has its seasonal rewards at the very least. Both of which are established as the rewards for said content, but hairstyles or bath towels have zero relavence to Eureka or PvP and shouldn't be there - it's clear as day they're only doing this as an excuse to get people who don't care about those content to play it instead of actual improvement.
By your logic should they also start putting similar items into the Ultimate/Alpha Savage chest then?
Eureka I feel is just like every one of mobile games that has lootboxes. Mobile game where you do nothing but tap tap tap, or in Eurekas case, go AFK while others kill stuff and join in on FATEs to get lockboxes in hopes of getting good rewards.
Here is a money making tip Square Enix. Make a mobile game called Final Fantasy Eureka, tap on 200 monsters and earn a lootbox, can also be bought with real life money. Just remove Eureka from XIV xD
If the Relic wasn’t in Eureka, the amount of people participating in it would probably be less than the amount of players with Ultimate clears. Locking the Relic and dyeable AF gear wasn’t enough to save it from the disaster Pagos wrought upon it, so now Pyros has more than just the Relic tossed into it to tempt players to chase the carrot—every item added in 4.45 that was a minion, a mount, a housing item, or any sort of glamour item, was all thrown into Eureka: even the new hairstyle. Likewise, new hairstyles are now locked behind Wolf Marks and PvP instead of being given to the playerbase like they used to be when patches dropped.
There is a difference between putting in a few exclusive rewards in a piece of content (a la Savage or Ultimate or Ex primals), and putting literally every new vanity item behind it (a la Pyros). I don’t think you realize the difference.
Bumping because a freaking hairstyle (basic customization item) shouldn't be gated by 3 levels of RNG nor millions of gil. It should be accessible to everyone. Strike 2, first one was the HoH one.
I do not like what they did here, I really do not. However I would rather use the word lure then force, the devs are trying to lure more players into content that many do not want to do. Locking housing, glam, pets, and mounts behind such things are already in itself a sign that the dev knows the content is less then good. Locking a hairstyle behind it shows to me that the devs know the content is what many players find bad and as such need an extra large carrot.
IMHO, hairstyles should always be unlocked for everyone at the day they are added to the game, there should be no wall to climb to get them.
Raids have better gear, mount, and pet as rewards.
PvP should have pvp gear, mount, and pet as rewards. PvP need some love here. But more then that it needs more modes.
Eureka have the relic, glam, housing, materia and so on as rewards, there are plenty of rewards for those who like that place. Just that the main reward, the relic, has been outdated at the day of being added for the entire SB expansion.
Adding more and bigger carrots are not the answer here, making the damn content more fun is. Quality over carrots, if something is fun to do you do not need a big fat reward to even consider doing it.
And by the way I bought the hairstyle from the MB, and it ate up a large portion of my saved gil but it was worth it to not have to do content I find boring.
They're basically using tactics I'd expect in a free-to-play game with Eureka with the carrot on stick BS.
This really shouldn't be a thing in a game you pay monthly to play.
After hearing Blizzard has said theyve taken most of their experienced developers and put them all into mobile game projects, I really hope this isnt why we see F2P Mobile game type mechanics in Eureka :/
When people heard that, it seems that the ActivisionBlizzard stock price has fallen about 20% total since last weekend.
And with hearing XVs cancelation of its DLCs and team has been move to other games, I pray it isnt mobile games.
