This app is only usefull for chatting or if you wanna throw money away.
It's usefull for searching.
But since I can't search MB while logged into the game, I don't see why I should bother.
I can't deploy squadron, can't deploy retainer for venture, can't choose which aetheryte crystal my character will appear when I log in, can't use FC buffs.
I'd rather use the game itself.
I hope for more updates. It feels limited, as the game.
I haven't gotten it myself yet, but I've been watching my girlfriend mess around with it and I have enough to form an opinion. She did have some connection issues, but that's expected from day one of anything and they resolved pretty quickly. She's on an iOS.
Event Planning
+My favorite part.
+It takes time zone into consideration when you set up the event. So it'll adjust for each member based on their zone.
+You can duplicate events, so you can set up weekly things quiet easily.
+You can add members even after the event is created.
+You can make group chats for members of the event or you can have no chat at all. I like being able to choose.
+It's easy to see who can and can't go just via the RSVP, which can be changed at any time.
-The notifications are vibrate + pop up + sound. There is only an option to turn the option off, but no way to pick which which alerts you would and wouldn't like to have or a way to adjust the volume of the sound alert.
+-Notifications (at least for chatting) are tied to every group and every chat separately and by default are turned on. Even though I appreciate that I can turn off notifications for specific people/groups, I feel like there should be a way to toggle all in the general options menu so you don't have to manually do it for every chat.
*I'm not sure how the notification for the event works, but I assume it reminds you that day of an upcoming event. I'd like to be able to set when the notification appears for me (ie. 2 hours before an event and/or remind me multiple times).
Chat Function
+You can talk to other people with the app via the app. It's simple, it's easy, it's clean, it works. No complaints really.
+You can use regular texting emojis. I'm not sure if their appearance changes based on your device, will have to test that with someone. But, hey, they're there if you want to use them.
+Even if people don't respond to you, you still get a little confirm that they saw your message(s).
+Easy to tell who is on your Friend List, in your FC, or in a Linkshell with you.
+You can message people who are on other servers, but they need to be on your Friend List.
+-There is no app specific emojis/stickers. I personally am not a huge fan of them, but some people might be sad about that.
-Again, notification settings. Same complaints as before.
-Chat function is limited to those on the app and through the app. I understand trying to sync Linkshells and/or Tells with people in-game would be difficult, but I wish I could at least Mog Mail my friends from the app to get a hold of someone in-game even if they don't have the app.
Item Moving Function
*I personally don't understand the point behind this, but you can't use it without premium anyway so I'm not too upset about it.
Buying, Selling, and Kupo Nuts
+It works and it actually loads faster than I thought it would considering it has to connect to your character's specific server.
+I like being able to see how many items both retainers have without having to go into each one separately.
+Adjusting prices is much easier than in-game, as the other listed prices are actually there and you don't need to open another window, remember the price, and then edit yours.
+The layout of things on the app (especially when dealing with retainers) is so much better than in-game.
-Kupo Nuts don't do enough. Instead of using 1 Kupo Nut to change the price of one item once, you should use 1 Kupo Nut to change the prices on all the items your retainer is holding once for that day. (I guess a "day" could be up until daily reset or something. Just to keep times consistent with in-game)
-You should be able to hold as many Kupo Nuts as you have retainers. For most of us that is still 2, but I'm sure those who have the maximum amount of retainers feel incredibly limited.
-There is no general search when buying an item. You can't just search the whole Market Board for an item, you have to know which category it is in and search that way. Which I find a bit annoying, but I guess if you're really stalking the price on an item, you probably already know what category it's in.
-No way to access your Wishlist (at least that we have found). So no way to edit/change that or watch prices on items from there.
-No way to see what price items were sold for previously. Again, if you're really stalking the price of an item, you probably already know, but it'd still be nice if there was a way to check.
As for the Mog Coin prices, they're actually a lot better than the prices I have seen for quantity to cost micro-transaction currency in a mobile app. Not that I'd really recommend buying them, but they could have been worse. I still, however, don't think premium is worth it.
TL;DR. It's a really simple app that is alright to have, but you could live without. The chat function, event planning, and simple layout (especially dealing with retainers and how messy they feel in-game) are probably its biggest draws. It's not something you're going to spend a significant amount of time messing around with, but I don't hate it. I'm sure my girlfriend will have a ton of fun messaging people with it and planning FC events, but I'll probably forget about it being on my phone within a week or two.
I'd say I was disappointed, but a P2W cash grab is exactly what I was expecting. This app doesn't offer anywhere near enough features to ask people to pay an extra sub.
Damn. I didn't even make it past the EULA without criticism. Seriously, who the hell designs a scroll bar damn near the same color as the background?
Other than that, it's not really anything I'll get much use out of. A little bit disappointed that inventory management doesn't account for organization. Would've liked to have seen the full inventory panes, empty spaces and all. I feel disinclined to move anything if it's going to throw off how I've got things sorted.
And also there doesn't seem to be any real way to close the app that I could see, short of returning to your device home screen and hoping that it doesn't continue to run in the background.
I have not downloaded the app. I will not be downloading the app, based on information from multiple people. This information pretty much validated my concerns:
1.) The app should have no premium currency nor service period. Even Bungie, who has dived headfirst into the microtransaction ecosystem feetfirst with a smile, does not require a premium service to access every option of the app. I used it, and I only paid for PS+. World of Warcraft does not offer a premium service either to utilize all functions of the app. The fact it has premium anything is an insult. I can get behind the kupo nut system to combat rampant undercutting of the economy, but I cannot get behind everything else.
2.) I pay the subscription fee to have 8 characters (I have 4, only 2 of which I play) and I have bought items on the Mogstation that I wanted, such as past event items I missed, a story/level skip for my Alt, and other costume items like the maid outfit and princess dress as I wanted - because they were optional, and I know that the Mogstation is supposed to go directly to the development team. Ok, I can understand and be ok. If that's changed, my purchases will end after the Fenrir bike that's for sure.
With that said: forcing me to pay 5 dollars for an app subscription per month to access more inventory space and another retainer is bollocks. It is wrong. This is not a free to play game and Square Enix is not an indie developer, they have studios and teams all over the world, with multiple games coming out in the next six months. This is a money grabbing attempt if I ever saw one, and I played GTAO for YEARS. Now it feels as if Square Enix is attempting to nickel and dime us to the nth degree, and it seriously is angering me. I love this game, I enjoy my classes and the story, the friends I have made in the game and the items I have earned and bought.
I complained about the app before I stepped foot on these forums, so this is all of what I have felt since it was announced.
3.) Inventory should not be locked behind yet another subscription. If they wished to tie it to the app, giving it to us for signing up on the free plan to encourage us to download it? Fine. Add an advertisement for Tomb Raider, Kingdom Hearts, etc while the game is loading - literally I would not care if you advertised your products will the app loaded. People might. I won't. But locking more inventory space, something I want because I like keeping my glamours on me and not rely on the 10 plates of the dresser all the time, frustrates me.
Please no one use the premium service, please. Let it crash and burn, and maybe they'll treat us with more respect.
But who am I kidding, I'm just so no-one kid from Pallet Town.
It's an insult to the community.
It's 10,99€ for the sub and they expect me to pay nearly half a sub for a trashy app?
So the free app is mostly useless but if you are willing to pay that much for prenium fonctions, magically all the "server limitations" that prevent them to add more inventory space vanish?
Well since the Eureka fiasco, I already stopped to play and I only resub for my house (which is also one other stupid feature), but with Pagos that prove thet devs don't really listen to feedbacks, the content drought, the lack of creativity and this PAYING INSULTING app, I seriously consider to stop playing...
It's really sad because i think i can't even say how much I loved this game and how it's was beyond amazing...
But I guess I need to remenber:
$quare €nix £ove ¥ou...
No problem on ipad Air 2.
Just adjust my item's on marketboard.
The daily kupo nuts is sure nice but maximum at 2 kupo nuts is kinda low, make it 5 and we're golden.
Risking to be called a whiteknight but I don't think anyone is expected to use the premium plan. I'm seriously consider it for the extras.
It called server congestion. It happens to main servers too. Login queues etc.

Meanwhile I'm actually worried about getting connection errors at least a dozen times before I can actually connect my character with my phone.
It is shit right now, but I just hope there would be further development and addition of new features to it.
Works good for me, there was a slight issue with server unresponsive when I was connecting my character but worked after couple mins now no issues.
Huawei Mate P10 Lite - EMUI 8.0.0 - Current Version: RNE-L 8.0.0.0.330(C432)
So a fairly new phone on its originally installed operating system which is at the currently newest avialble update status.
And it says I can't install it
I have no idea why, but it magically solved itself after 1hr.... o_O
I'm not planning to use this app at all, not even the free features. And I don't understand why anyone would need to pay for it. Just use the MB ingame; it's easier, unlimited, and costs no extra fee.
I don't like that SE decided to release this app, because it's only going to create tons of drama for something that (in my opinion) wasn't worth being made. That said, I also don't think this app is "forcing" anyone to anything, for there's very little gain (if any at all) from using it. I simply can't see the point or the joy of accessing the MB from phone instead of ingame O_O; Surely no one is going to die from being unable to be at home sometimes?
tl!dr: On one hand I don't get why SE had to made this app, and on the other I don't get why the community is being so worked up over something that's not offering anything you can't do in-game already, as if the app was life-changing. Maybe it's because I'm not a crafter and I must be missing some info (?)
The main reason people wanted that app is to have a place to chat with people of your social contacts ingame without being logged in. That was delivered.
Everything else are things no one asked for and barely anyone will need, and even less that would pay for the added features.
this app would be a nice feature if it didn't nickle and dime everyone that used it. $0.20 for each MB update or auction posted. they even made it so you can't horde kupo nuts for free use (only have 2 at a time). i can do hundreds of those transactions a week and this is just ridiculous.
They sure are hitting a bunch of home runs lately, aren't they.
I guess i will try to download on my iPhone tonight but the Libra Eorzia App has served me well for years.
So the one thing that seemed useful was being able to chat in-game but that only works with people who also have the app installed.
I understand that small indie developer Square Enix's servers are so fragile that an extra byte of information could set the whole building aflame, but SE is just trying to charge me for something apps like Discord do for free.
Why would I want to pay my entire sub again just to do something I could do by just... I don't know, logging in?
What a shameless cashgrab. I hope it flops hard.
The app is bad, like 6 yrs ago you were already able to chat with your friends inside the game on WOW using their app, this app took that much time and you're not even able to do that, you can only talk with ppl using the app, why anyone would do that with so many good alternatives around and that doesn't take 15 seconds to send a message?
The event interface would be a nice feature if it worked inside the game as well, but as it's exclusive to the app so it becomes quite useless cause you'll hardly be able to convince all your fc mates to use it just to check for events, hell even facebook would be better for that.
And you can't even control the ventures of your retainer with the app, something that would be really nice so you don't need to get in game just for that.
Why can't SE check what others are doing to get good ideas? the glamour book in wow is so cool, you can check the itens you have and the itens you don't and then you can start collecting it to fill all your book having a new cool thing to do in game and here we get a glamour dresser with a really limited space.
Yeah anyone who thinks the chat in this app is even remotely good hasn't used discord yet, I wouldn't even call this chat passable, it's plain terrible and that's the only non-useless feature of the free app.
I don't really see the point in this application as we can't chat with the people in game. Not even our FC. Like already said, there's discord for what we have here.
Tbh the only reason I'm getting the app is for the extra favored destination.
Apart from that, it's just as many others say. The apps use is limited, some features almost negligible.
I was kinda hoping this would replace the lodestone, but that doesn't seem to be the case just yet.
All I expected to be able to do was check my inventory and the market board prices remotely, and I can definitely do both of those things. I can also view my retainers' inventories in the sell menu, which is a nice bonus I wasn't expecting. The chat functions pretty much like chat in any mobile app (so I guess an alternative for those who don't like discord for whatever reason), and I feel like the events planning will be handy for coordinating with small groups of friends for things like HoH runs and map parties. I wasn't expecting either chat or events to connect to the game itself, so it doesn't bother me that they don't. Maybe they'll work that in some time in the future if the app is popular enough.
I'm pretty pleased with the app, overall. I probably won't upgrade to premium, but I like what they offer for free. And I think it was a wise move to stabilize the app first before opening up a premium subscription option.
So pretty much pay, we getting a taste of free version. Can't wait till they release the premium. Come on SE take my money I need the space and extra retainer lol
Isn't the comparable app for WoW completely free with zero microtransactions? Makes this whole thing seem like a giant cash grab. Uninstalled after taking the screenshot below.

This is so not worth the data or space on my cellphone.
/smh
It doesn't seem to be what people were asking for...which sums up an increasing amount of things in this game, unfortunately. The scary thing is that more time was spent discussing this app during recent Live Letters than there was time spent discussing Pagos.
to be fair the "premium" service is basically just a fancy retainer that comes with an extra saddlebag
just cancel a current retainer and your nearly breaking even.
or don't bother with premium app? still get the extra favored destination just for having it and market board stuff and chat
Can you explain why you are releasing an arguably pay to win system in this game? Why does the retainers and this app cost so much? You are overcharging. With what the mog station charges for items for a single character, sub fees, retainer fees, the micro transactions and a sub fee for the app? Can you explain why you are charging all this money? It is personally insulting to me too see all these high costs for this game when all you do is reskin content and have this meaningless treadmill for "game content". All I see here is a shameless cash grab and shocked there was no responses to the backlash before releasing it.

241 liked post on how people do not like the idea of this mircotransaction to be in the game, and you did it anyway without commenting to us about it, why?
Isn't it $2/month per extra retainer through the Mog Shop? You'd be spending less money just grabbing two retainers that way, unless you really prefer another saddlebag over a retainer (or unless you've already maxed out on retainers, in which case you probably don't need a whole other one and a saddlebag anyway?). Either way, while I haven't downloaded the app yet it sounds to be pretty lackluster. At least you don't need it to play the game, so... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Sure if I were an idiot. The whole point is how it benefits you. For me Storage space and having an extra retainers is worth it. I mean seriously who would pay pay for dyes or items that can be found in game? As for glamour, lets face it many players care about cosmetics, bottom line it's not really needed and like real life it's a phase that will end up in your closet, months later realize you spend money foolishly do to the fact that unlike RL, you can't return it after wearing it for a day. To each their own. I'm just glad that SE was smart and said if your on FT, you can't use it lol.
This app is a complete waste of space on my already strained phone. I'm uninstalling it. Doesn't have features I need and other things I would like are locked behind giving SE even more of my money every month. I pay for 9 retainers already + the full subscription. That's enough for me.
I wouldn't call it pay to win, but it's still a cash grab. They make a LOT of money already from subscriptions, extra retainers, and mog station sales. WoW's comparable app, besides having many more features, is completely free. This app wants not only a premium subscription but also micro transactions! This is insane.
