Plus its been said many times that on the German and French lodestone post it says EU time zone.Quote:

whatever where you from all ppl are welcome in this server...
It's a EU time zone, all Europeans like Italian UKSpanish Swiss Scandinave ... ppl can join this server and you will find an english communauty.
Even for Quebec, if they all come, you will have a bench of player speaking your own language and on your playtime.
It's the same things for hispanic ppl in America...
I'm from northern ireland and i'm going on strike i'm not moving from my server... If Yoshida want's me moved he can come to ireland himself and move me :)
Is it that hard to decide on 2 servers to be European?
Since world 10 is already suggested, where is the problem?
Do French and German people need to speak their native language that badly in order to play the game?
English isnt good enough? Evryone in Europe should be able to speak English...
Yeah...
Do you guys get all your games translated in your language, or ffxiv is the only game you play?
Don't you learn foreign languages in school? Isnt English one of them? (I dont know, just asking)
You responded in english right?
No, Meleena is right.
We never asked for a German or French server.
Most German and French players I met ingame were able to communicate in English quite well, and even if Server #10 had only German and French players, they'd STILL have to communicate with each other, and guess which language will be used...
I am not from an english speaking country either but I do what I can in order to be able to enjoy the game.Quote:
Expecting someone to speak English is considered small minded.
And even though we learn each others language in school its not to the level that we can speak or write it fluently.
To expect that every country will get it's own dedicated native speaking server sounds even worse to me.
Right about what ? that everyone in Europe should speak english ?
I don't understand why you are arguing about a server you aren't interested in, if you are French or German and don't want to be part of that server the option is pretty clear, is it not ?
And no chances are that server 10 would become segregated, linkshells that are mainly german speaking and linkshells that are french speaking, sure they may have to group up for XP parties but you don't even need to talk in an XP party.
Perhaps you didn't understand what I meant.Quote:

What I wanted to say is that I imagine that most European players in the game can sommunicate in English
Right about THIS.
We don't need to talk in our own language so badly that it's okay to cause so much trouble for everyone.
English is the main language to communicate in internationally, so Meleena is kind of right. Everyone who is playing right now is aware he joined an international community so obviously English is the most important language ingame.
A server based on European time zones is a great idea, but based on languages is just stupid.
If I had the choice, I'd never pick server 10, but most of my friends and my main LS will go to #10, so I'll follow them.
I think that the NA lodestone article about the server#10 beeing a french/german speaking server is a miss translation.
If i translate the announce on the french side it'll give something like this:
-"We especially think about European players who are fewer and rather scattered between the different worlds :so,we think about a way in order to help them to regroup easily and effectively if they wish so."
I'm not that good in english but i hope you guys was able to understand something ^^'
So yeah server#10 will be in favour of European players but NA,JP,and others will be welcomed as well.In my opinion communication will no be an issue, all of us know one or two words in english and the in game auto-translation could help.
It'll be sad to see that the server#10 will be left alone by non-European players.
Well we still have time to think about this and my ls is still discussing with friends about witch server to pick when the day finally comes.
ps:Hi Coris if you read this, your sig rocks xD
Although it is more popular in German speaking countries (Germany, Austria, Switzerland) to learn English, not all are necessarily fluent enough to enjoy conversation or speak accurately/quickly in battle.
Speaking English by French people is still not very common (even among young adults, even those who are avid video gamers), so they would definately enjoy an area where they can speak comfortably/accurately/quickly in their native tongue.
Saying that french people ( even young ones) do not speak English is a euphemism believe me, I am french and still young (30) and believe me, french people speak french period ^^. So yeah maybe it is a not so bad idea this server.
Not all the french/german are unable to speak english, there is a good part of them who have no problem with that.
Im french and i dont expect to be on a server with french speaking only. I would rather be on a server with people playing in GMT time zone, thats the most important part.
Server 10 will be an EU server or will not be. English will remain the first language. If i want to play with german or spanish player, we have to use enlgish.
I assume most French and Germans knows English as little as I know German. Studied the language for 6 years, but I feel very uncomfortable conversing in it. I'd probably say the wrong things or misinterpret it. Thus I'd try to speak English with a German instead of German.
But we've already established that it's the English mods that have taken great liberties in their translation of the original post by Yoshi (both on the devlog and in his forum posts) and that it is, in fact, the EU he is talking about. Not only French and Germans.
Jee, kerro minne menette, ehkäpä tulen samalle serverille :D
This is such a small minded comment itself.
I learned English in school, played games like Space Quest (lol) in English that forced me to learn to write it and understand it. I LOVE the fact that there was such things that made me really put a bit of an effort in my language studies because knowing another language fluently is a great thing to have, it opens so many doors (not just in games).
I don't think there should be any "language" servers on FFXIV, time zone I understand but not language...
Server 10 will not be Fr/Ger only for the only reason that we would not be enough to populate it. Furthermore it would actually be a good server for NA/JP looking for a server with people from all over the world and not that much competition for end game content at their peak hours. Actually I would not be surprised if server in 10 we as European would end up being a minority.
Alkel, my post was a joke (well part of it ^-^).
hey Vall!
yup, read it xD ty ty!
[also thanks to you, ShadowCadja xD]
by the way, did you people read what was posted by Bayohne?
Seems like the german and french players are the reason for that solution no. 4
I don't want it to be like that -.-
Well on Wutai aren't that many German players so a few more would be nice, but a nearly whole german community on ONE server? No thanks :/
I don't think its a bad idea - I just think there should be several EU FRIENDLY servers. Friendly being that there is a good mix and match of all timezones. Not just pigeon holing everyone. Our LS is about 50/50 EU/NA (little more EU then NA) with almost 70 people.
Playing with all sorts is what makes FF's community interesting.
You should not be afraid of french people talking in french. It would be like seing shout in Japanese, except its in french. But unlike japanese people, most of us can practice english in parties or whenever its needed, without auto-translatation. You might not get a fluent conversation but just what you need to be understood. Worst case scenario, google translation is your bestfriend !
And actually, thinking server #10 as a european server only is a huge mistake, its just a place recommanded for european players because we're so few in here. Everyone's more than welcome, servers are internationnals after all, theres no langage/timezone limitation.
Guys I still dont think its that hard to decide.
You dont have to think world 10 as a European server only, everyone is welcome, but in the meantime if EU people have to go somewhere, why not in word 10?
It would be nice to know how many players fit on one server and how many people from the EU play FFXIV.
Since I don't know any numbers, it still sounds kinda weird for me that there will be just ONE server with EU timezone...

*Recommended for players
in EU regions.
stop being narrow minded, square is trying to gather the EU timezone, FR/D was a mistranslation (thanks for that) if the server is only populated by French and German we will end in the same state as the old low population server.
if we all scatter on the other servers don't complain during summer that your timezone activity is null.
Shockingly I havent seen one other Irish person post. I think I may actually be the only one! :(
I will go where my LS goes. If it is 10 fantastic see you all there. But it is kinda unlikely to be.
But I hope you all get more reasonable playing hours if you can get them :D
The EU server is a bit meh imo... Currently I'm in a EU linkshell on Lindblum. I also started an EU linkshell just by shouting, and I had about 50 members. Then I found out that there was one other very popular EU linkshell already, with very fun people & doing NMs and other events.
If you really want to do runs with EU people, someone just take some time to do some shouts in Ul'dah, get about 20 EU members and you have more then enough for events in FFXIV.
A server, only made for EU ppl, will be pretty empty, cuzz this server will lag JP players, which are very active during EU times too.
So I'll move to the server that my linkshell chooses :)
Here on Selbina we're already quite accustomed to seeing shouts in French. We have a thriving German linkshell, bucketloads of french and one or two quebecoise I think. We also have quite a lot of players from the UK. From what I hear ingame their response is that we'd rather just stay as Selbina thankyou very much for the offer though. If we must move then we will mostly try to move together. US,JP or EU we're Selbinans, and we're friends.
