And by the end of the day they will have a few empty bottles of whisky around?

100% agree!.
SE, please reveal names before we have to chose. I chose Besaid for a reason and I would like to end up on Besaid, not Wutai nor Lindblum or anything else. There are many people like me who would like to stay on Besaid after transfer.
* The new Worlds shall inherit the names of the ten most popular current Worlds. Name assignments will be announced after the transfer selection period has ended.
Besaid is one of top 10 servers, why not reveal the names now or before transfer? Also it gonna be more transparent and easier to understand the whole proccess by knowing the server names that we are going to.
Best regards,
Loyal Lalafell
P.S: My thread to this: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...ransferring%21
I was talking about the kitty in it. Duh... >_>
And I certainly hope the devs take this to heart and relay all this feedback to the producers. It's rare to see such determined and united skepticism coming out in just a few hours. Can't imagine the other language forums looking much different. Bad planning is bad planning, and I'm an optimistic person by nature.
PS. As I thought. On the Japanese forums alone, there's around 5-6 skepticist threads popping up, and one is already passing 300 replies and 74k views. o_o DS.
To promote even player distribution. Something that would not happen if they used the OLD server names because the names themselves have become synonymous with how active that server is. You think anyone is going to join Saronia over Gysahl?
However, if they used NEW server names much of this problem would dissipate. The added bonus is that it'd be far easier to coordinate.
You seem to think that Gysahl is in the top ten..
If they have enough players to support the ten servers, and the servers are going to keep their names, let us keep our server names. The remaining 8 servers' players will remain to fill the rest, and will be locked out of servers with too high a population.
Even distribution is not going to happen, sorry.
And you have evidence that it is not? It's one of < 10 servers with three chocobo's whenever I check. By all means, enlighten me.
You're for the idea in every other thread. Why the change of heart?Quote:

*EDIT* I just noticed someone posted this reference to a post in the JP forums:
23:02 1150 Gysahl
22:46 1071 Cornelia
23:37 955 Mysidia
23:26 1400 Selbina
22:33 1008 Figaro
23:48 698 Trabia
23:29 627 Palamecia
23:00 874 Lindblum
22:13 659 Istory
23:36 753 Besaid
23:28 460 Wutai
22:30 593 Rabanastre
23:02 748 Kashuan
22:55 710 Saronia
23:56 619 Fabul
23:06 487 Bodhum
22:41 585 Melmond
23:39 439 Karnak
I can't vouch for how accurate it is, but even if the margin of error is quite large... Gysahl is well within the top 10. Kthx.
I'm for lots of different ideas. They're not mutually exclusive. To sum up:
I would like them to merge entire servers with an "opt-out" option. I.e. Selbina and Rabanastre will become Zanarkand (just examples), but you can choose to move elsewhere.
Because I realize that SE will probably not do a 360, I at least support the early release of server names because people (including myself) are simply trying to circumvent this equal disbursement that they think numbers will bring. And if they will not do this, I am for the idea of creating new server names so there is not a feeling of having been displaced, but of being replaced.
I am also a proponent of equal treatment for the non-subs and current subs. I.e. if they choose for us, I want the non-subs to come with us; and if we choose freely, I want the non-subs to choose freely. Though I realize you can and might argue this to the death, this game is not quite a finished product, and the devs have admitted that they're not even going to try to push PR until after 1.21, presumably for 2.0. To say that players who have every intention of coming back do not deserve a fair chance to play with their friends sounds wrong to me, regardless of whether that's absolute or enforced by a "tax" on non-subs. We get special benefits for paying in the form of event items (Goobbue) and the "live" storyline.
And regarding Gysahl, I could care less either way. The names are just names, and it's tragic that they've elected to do this method with the same names, and then make it so we're picking without knowing. I don't frequently go through the trouble of creating new characters just to back up a forum post.
Oh /blush Thankies ^^
Yes, it's nice to see something that a good majority of the player base agrees on! I had heard that the Japanese forums were as active as ours, though they had Devs active.
Hope our Devs enjoy their coffee ... and whiskey as Delsus said above *laughs*
I'm not one to rage, but these shenanigans are enough to make me rage! A server name is just as important as a character name. It is part of our identity.
I like that the server names are not released. The servers populations will likely be imbalanced again if they release the names beforehand. You know what Selbina is overcrowded right? Because it's the only one that got nostalgia points from FFXI, where a good majority of players came from.
I can't believe the number of people that want to see the server names
Server names mean nothing.
This may become true. It may also not. You will most likely select between server 1-5. You may end up chosing nr. 10. You may chose even/uneven numbers. There will still be some imbalance, except, you may end up on a server a tad lighter, except this time without friends. Ever read "The Little Match Girl"? That's how lonely you'll be. Dying in the midst of winter, thinking about the christmasses of past as your last match is hushed out by the wind.
Well, maybe not. But you can't ignore this way of merging servers are just unnecessarily complicated for all parties and communities that wish to stay together.
Is there anything people won't f*cking complain about.
Community: We want better population.
SE: Here you go. :)
Community: RAGE QUIT!!!! OMAH GOODDD WTFFFF!!!?????
-.-
If someone really gets bent out of shape over the name of a server I have no faith left in this community. Though it seems no one really thought that the names simply weren't decided as the system (new servers) are much more important >.>
Yea, that's exactly why. But what's wrong with using the server's name to make decision? It's the server we're gonna be playing on for years to come most likely. Shouldn't it be a name that we like? Shouldn't that be our decision, not SEs?
How do you think people would act if their character name was randomly chosen for them if someone already had theirs? I bet they'd be pretty pissed. It's the same thing to an extent.
Maybe not to you, which is fine. But it means something to others, which is clearly being demonstrated these past few hours.
Honestly this could have been avoided by simply doing a normal server merge... taking smaller servers into larger ones to even the numbers.
A world transfer service would not hurt either, even if it did come with similar stipulations as say FFXI (cost and a limit as to how many time it can be done in a time period)
It's that, but there's also the interest of people to stay within the community they're currently in. This way, everyone will most definitly be shuffled, and there's no guarantee in any of the 7 hells that all servers are gonna be evenly distributed. I bet some is gonna be crammed, and others desolate. If they're gonna keep the current names anyway, then just stay with that, give everyone the option to transfer or Stay. The servers that's closed down will move into them, and they may chose what affiliation or population they want to join into. Or rename all the servers. Then everyone at least get depressed equally.
It's not rocket science to understand people want to stay in the server with the same people they are currently playing with or around. It doesn't have to be all for roleplaying reasons.
I'm not saying if it's a good call or not, I'm just saying I can see the reasoning that is behind the decision. Some people are just loudly wondering why, oh why they don't give us the server names. There's a reason why: so you don't choose them based on the name.
Sure, you might want to choose a server name you want as another part of your character, but SE might want population to spread without any server getting more or less popular because of its name. They're two points of view, and I can see the reasoning behind them both.
The reason I posted that is diferent, I'm just amazed how some people can say, and I quote, "what ridiculous reason could you have for hiding our server names from us until we are on them"... and them say they choose their name for a reason. So there you have it, they don't give us the name so you don't choose based on them, geez.
Server Name is choice, even if its a little log in message only its important. I wanted to make sure when I started that I got Figaro. I don't want to have no choice in a name that will identify me all over the place(i.e. look under all the avatars on the forum). To me its like char names and if those are being carefully handled I can't imagine why this isn't being.
Also those complaining about "names will influence choice and unbalance pop" -- thats why 8 names are removed. The overall less number is whats supposed to change the player base distribution, not remove people from popular ones.
Also anyone recall how full the first market ward was when the game started? Implying that doesn't happen with the other worlds.
Ah but there is no difference between choosing for the love of a name or a number.
I have said this before earlier; Server 1 and 2 will fill up first. Server 4 might bewill beavoided by Japanese people for superstition or loved for the culture of it all, server 10 has officially been offered as a specific language server and you can see groups popping up claiming server numbers for thier servers (7rabia, 8esaid etc)
Even then, they might release exp loss on deaths next month and of course there is a reason, doesn't mean everyone in the FF world should say ... oh ok if you think that is best.
Aku, the same can be said for numbered servers as well. Many people will pick #1 or 2 because they may think they'd be the more populated servers. Others may pick #3 because it's a common favorite number, the same goes for #7. JP players maypickavoid #4 because apparently it's apopularsuperstitious number over there (I'm not sure why exactly).
Names or numbers, there are going to be favorites and both would ultimately lead to the same thing as far as population goes. Except in the number case, some people will be stuck on servers who's name they don't really like.
This is why I suggested new names all together. People will still pick their favorites, but the chances of whole servers moving to 1 new server are less than if they kept the current names but the same as if they were to use numbers.
I don't know why SE wants to split up our communities, but that seems to be their overall intention. The ONLY positive part of a server merger like this is us being able to choose which server to go to. And why does that even matter when we don't now their names to begin with?
The numbers 4 and 9 are actually generally considered unlucky in Japan yet there's also a fascination of death which makes 4 a popular number.
You keep saying this but you know they are capping each server right? they are taking out 8 servers and moving that player base in to the remaining 10... I don't think anyone is going to be sad cold and alone without anyone to play with in any of the remaining servers.
Well as Abu was saying, i think she was more defending at to why, not that she had a preference one way or the other. Exlaia seems to think its irrelevant too. But if we know that theres no way to avoid something like some population difference and that and its something we are stuck with why not allow us some choice?
fwiw, Trabia community is currently leaning towards World 7. (7rabia)
Granted, this is just the first few hours after server merge information has been released.
